—TRENTON CELEBRATES 60— Our Landsleute and friends across the Delaware River are planning a gala celebration to honor their founding six decades ago. Begun during a time when so many Donauschwaben (a.k.a. German Hungarians!) immigrated to the US, the Trenton organization has a proud history of accomplishments all of us can appreciate. Above all, they’ve remained a multigenerational club that has been able to count on both young and old and everyone in between to keep the doors open and the activities interesting. Among the evening’s highlights will be performances by the U.G.H. and Philadelphia/Trenton dancers and music for your dancing and listening pleasure by our very own Heimatklänge. It promises to be a good time for all. The event will be held at the spacious ballroom of the nearby German American Society (www.gakclub.org) on October 15 from 5 to 9 PM. Tickets are $35.00 for adults and include a buffet dinner. For more information or to make reservations contact them at DSATrenton@AOL.com or 609.586.6109. We look forward to seeing you there! AUGUST 2016

Oktoberfest, 2016 will take place at our large outside facilities on Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25. The Biergarten opens at 12 noon each day. On Saturday, the Heimatklänge Orchestra will bring us sounds from home from 2 to 6 pm. Then the Kirko Brothers Band will entertain from 6 to 10 pm. On Sunday, the Heimatklänge Orchestra will be providing music from 2 to 6 pm. Admission is $6.00 per person per day, and children 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Food and beverage as always are sold separately. I hope that all our members and friends will attend. Although we had a good crowd on German Day, we were somewhat disappointed that only a few of our senior members attended. We hope all our members had a good summer and we look forward to seeing you in September. Werner Fricker, Jr. in an article a few months ago in his column entitled “German American Heritage and Traditions” wrote: “Beginning at the end of August and continuing through September our (GermanAmerican) Community will celebrate with festivals and events and we will be beginning a new fresh soccer season. The events are all vital to the financial success of each organization that sponsors them. In reality they are more than that, they are an integral part of the celebrations of traditions, values and good friendship among the members and friends of each organization.” I believe sometimes we forget this. Oktoberfest, 2016 is the German Hungarian’s largest event of the year. Every member, whatever age, has family and friends. BRING THEM TO OUR OKTOBERFEST! We would love to see them and they would have a good time.

Remember the dates: OKTOBERFEST 2016 – SEPTEMBER 24 & SEPTEMBER 25.

Schnitzel! The Favorite Treat!

Announcing the 2016-2017 Youth Soccer Teams OAKFORD – The United German Hungarians of Philadelphia and Vicinity are proud to announce the youth amateur staff and teams for the 2016-2017 season. This year marks the 94th anniversary of that first team that organized in 1922 as the Banater Athletic Club. It also is of note that the junior section and the famous “Chicos” boys team were founded in 1939, making this season the 77th for the youth program. The German Hungarians often say, “We are Continuing a Proud Tradition.” The below roster of teams and staff represent that continuity and will be the torch-bearers for that tradition.
