NEW TRADITION HONORS ALUM
Montini Catholic High School alumnus, Brian Forde '89 had the unique idea to commemorate the memory of his late friend and fellow Bronco football teammate, Brad Bumber '89, this past summer. Upon hearing about an opportunity to fund a locker in the Broncos newly renovated locker room, Forde wanted to do something more in remembrance of his beloved teammate. So, he initiated the plan to create 'Bumber's Corner Locker.' Montini Catholic student Brad Bumber '89 played linebacker for the Broncos from 1985 to 1989. He passed away on September 26, 2015 due to complications from his long battle with cancer. Thanks to Forde and his former Bronco teammates from the Class of 1989, each year, a Montini Catholic Bronco varsity football player will receive the honor to use the locker in Brad's honor. "Dedicating a football locker in his memory is the best way our class could think of to honor Brad's memory," said Forde. "The player chosen by his coaches to receive 'Bumber's Corner' each year should feel extremely honored to be recognized for demonstrating similar attributes and qualities as Brad, and for the privilege to play Montini Bronco Football under the banner of his name and memory." MONTINI ALUM RETURNS FOR FINAL SEASON Kevin Martin '06 returns to TNT for the final season of The Last Ship. Martin has played Eric Miller for the past 5 seasons on the show which chronicles the aftermath of a global catastrophe that has nearly wiped out the world's population. A graduate of UCLA acting school, Kevin has been performing since his early stage years in Chicago. Quickly after college graduation, he landed small roles in popular television shows including Desperate Housewives (2004-2014) before joining the cast of The Last Ship. Originally cast for only 2 episodes, Martin's character appeared in 9 of the 10 episodes during the first season. He has been a regular with the show for the past 4 seasons. Martin was not originally interested in acting, opting instead to play sports, but after watching and performing in some musicals, he decided to make the switch from sports to acting. MONTINI'S NAMESAKE TO BE CANONIZED Montini Catholic was devotedly named after Pope Paul VI who was elected to the papacy in 1963, during the planning of creation of the school. Pope Paul VI will be canonized as a saint by Pope Francis on Sunday, October 14, 2018. Pope Paul VI, who had the task of closing the Second Vatican Council in 1965, will be canonized in St. Peter's Square together with Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero, and another four saints of charity, during the Synod of Bishops in the Vatican. Students, faculty and staff will celebrate the canonization at All Saints Mass on November 1st as well as receive a celebratory piece of cake this Friday compliments of Campus Ministry.
