A“OurMESSAGE PRESIDENT June 4th Anniversary Celebration will be a night FROM OUR
to celebrate the school’s past, present and future, but more importantly, it will be a celebration of people.”
Dear Alumni and Friends, is has truly been a special year for our school community, especially for our students and faculty. e celebration of our 50th Anniversary of Lasallian Education in the Diocese of Joliet has been a great learning experience for all of us. e many events and reunions have provided us the opportunity to look back and learn about the history of our school. Our 50th Anniversary has also provided many of our alumni, parents of alumni, and former faculty and staff the opportunity to return and reconnect with fellow classmates and former students. Our students have also had the opportunity to meet many of these important members of Montini’s history. e interaction between our current students, faculty and staff with alumni and former faculty and staff has been a wonderful thing to witness and experience. is was most evident at our 50th Anniversary of Music on February 18th. Over 100 alumni came back to perform at North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall. Our alumni were impressed with the musical performances of our students, and our students were equally impressed with the musical talent of our alumni. Our students saw first-hand the commitment and pride that our returning alumni demonstrated and how alumni can give back to their alma mater without writing a check. Not only was the participation of our alumni impressive, the turnout of alumni parents who came to see their son or daughter perform once again was just as impressive. It was great seeing so many familiar faces. My sincere appreciation goes out to former Music Directors, Mary Utterback Gibson, Joan Kertay and Debora Utley as well as our current Music Directors, Belford Hernandez and Matt Loeb, for all their help and hard work in conducting our alumni and student choirs. It was a wonderful evening - one that we will never forget.
special school community because of the great people who have attended, taught, coached and supported our school - people who believe and live our Lasallian Mission of Education. Our June 4th Anniversary Celebration will be a night to celebrate the school’s past, present and the future but more importantly it will be a celebration of people – the families, alumni, faculty, students, parents and friends who have made out school one of the best college preparatory schools in the state of Illinois. I hope to see many of you on June 4th and “May Jesus Live In Your Hearts…Forever.” Sincerely,
Jim Segredo President
We are now looking forward to our 50th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Drury Lane, Oak Brook Terrace. On page 11 you will find details of this historical event including the members of our school community who will be honored on this special evening. Over the last 50 years many things have changed at Montini Catholic, but TWO things have remained the same – aspects of our school that have been hallmarks of our success – our Lasallian Mission of Education and the people of Montini Catholic. A selfless spring break While most were celebrating their Spring Breaks visiting friends, other states, and even other countries, Montini Catholic's Campus Minister, Michael Blanchette, teachers Hilda Castor and Denis Block, parent Bill Crotty ‘83, and ten enthusiastic student volunteers traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana over their break to volunteer at the Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity (GIHFH). e organization, with the help of diligent volunteers, creates an opportunity for families and individuals in need to purchase and own simple, quality, affordable homes. Montini students have been participating with Habitat for Humanity during Spring Break since 2004. ey have also volunteered for the organization during the summer for week long trips, and have helped out locally at the DuPage Habitat for Humanity. "Montini Catholic is proud to participate with such a wonderful organization that makes a difference in people’s lives," summarized Blanchette. "We are so grateful to our students who give up their own time to help others."
marching for life is year’s March for Life was unlike any other! With super storm “Jonas” threatening up to 3 feet of snow, Montini advisors were forced to contemplate cancelling the much anticipated trip to Washington D.C. After much debate, the group, under the direction of the Diocese of Joliet, decided to go. “We drove through the night, and after many stops and cups of coffee, we made it to the beautiful Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.” said eology teacher, Katie Wall, who accompanied the students along with Mr. Denis Block. “Mass was lovely and packed full of people praying and supporting each other in the same mission: life.” e group attended a Youth Rally and Mass alongside countless other high school and college students to sing, dance, and pray for life. “is event is full of energy and passion. It is truly incredible to see so many young people gathered together to take a stand for what they believe in and to make their faith a priority in their lives,” said Ms. Wall. “e impending storm forced many groups including ours to leave prior to the March. We hope that our small contribution will make a further effort in promoting a culture of life and a stop to abortion,” said Ms. Wall. We are grateful for the opportunity and we look forward to attending next year's March for Life, hopefully with a little less snow!” Students participating were: nicholas Alandy, Jessica Browne, Patrick Kowalski, Elizabeth Laviste, Evangelica Laviste, Angelica Mendoza, Cecilia Moran, ryan nelson, Elise ratajczyk. MONTINI Tradition Comes to an End for One Very Special Couple Michael Bukovsky and daughter, Amy, share their last Father Daughter Dance together. Montini’s Father Daughter Dance has become a memorable tradition anticipated by many. is year's dance was extra momentous for one special couple who enjoyed their last twirl together on Montini's floor. Coach Michael Bukovsky’83 and his senior daughter, Amy, have attended a total of 18 Father Daughter dances together. ey lovingly termed this year's celebration as an "18 Peat." "Our first dance was on Valentine’s Day, 1999 when Amy was about to turn one year old," recalled Bukovsky. "e music was loud in the cafeteria and she actually started crying at first! Soon she got used to it and we had a good time." Amy, of course, does not remember that night, but has her own special memories of her many years at her dad's side. "It is hard to pick just one memory from our dances. Each one was special because my dad and I were able to dress up nice and spend a night dancing together away from any sports." Bukovsky is enjoying a long history at Montini Catholic. In 2015 he completed his 30th year of coaching, a passion which began in 1985. For the last 18 years, Amy, who will be attending Lewis University in the fall, has been a fixture at Montini. She could always be found by her father's side, whether at the dance, in the wrestling room or on the 6

football field. "My favorite memories are all of the times Amy was with me over the summers, and at wrestling and football practices throughout the years," said Bukovsky. "Her mom wasn't too happy, however, when she got ringworm from the wrestling mats when she was about 6 months old during summer wrestling practice!" "I also remember when she was in 4th grade and she went to summer football camp here at Montini with all the boys. She scored a touchdown in the championship game!" He said. "I always looked forward to having her give me a big hug on the field after all of the home games, a tradition we still carried on through this season when we won the 6A Championship." Bukovsky also recalls winning the school’s first state football championship in 2000 at Augustana College in Rock Island. Amy was only 2 years old at the time. "I have a picture with her and the Championship trophy, and the trophy is actually bigger than her!" Amy fondly remembers all of the football games and championships and is very grateful to be going through the softball seasons and successes with her dad by her side. "Overall, I love attending school where my dad works. In the event that I ever need something from him during the day, I know he is there to talk to whenever I need him,"
she said. "However, in some cases it is more of a curse than a blessing," she added. "He is always around and you never know when he is going to pop up in the hallways, and it is kind of weird that he is friends with all your teachers, and especially in the case of my dad who likes to do crazy things like going on the roof of the school dressed as Ric Flair - it can be embarrassing." "I can't believe how fast the time has gone," said Bukovsky "I have been fortunate to be able to have shared many great Montini experiences with her. It was very emotional at the last dance. On one hand I was sad to realize her time at Montini was coming to a close, but on the other hand, I was really proud of all she has accomplished at Montini, and the great young lady she has become!" "It was really sad being at my last dance with my father," said Amy. "We have been going to these dances for my entire life, and it is crazy to know that this one was our last." "Working with Mike in Admissions, our offices were across the hall from each other," says Admissions Director, Kim Richmond '81. " I have been blessed to watch both Bukovskys grow over the last 18 years Amy into a mature young lady and Mike into an awesome dad who always had his eyes focused on his pride and joy."
