Dear Montini Catholic Alumni and Friends, The first quarter of the 2013-14 school year is off to a wonderful and exciting start. Enrollment is at one of its highest levels (675) in recent years and the Advanced Placement and ACT scores recorded by our senior class are outstanding (see page 7). Our students and faculty are also extremely excited about the Digital Learning Initiative. This year, we simultaneously launched a pilot program for students, a year-long professional development programs for our teachers and an iPad cart for their use in the classroom. Students and all faculty members are using their iPads on a regular basis. The launch of this program was planned for the 2015-16 school year but was accelerated this school year due to a $100,000 leadership gift provided by the Kazma Family Foundation. Because of this generous gift, all teachers were provided iPads and professional development opportunities, technology infrastructure upgrades were made and a cart with 30 iPads was purchased for teacher and student use. 25 students were supplied iPads for their use, 24/7, as part of our pilot program. Next school year, every student will be immersed in a 1:1 digital learning environment. As we enter the second quarter, I am asking everyone in the Montini Catholic community to consider joining the Kazma family in their generosity to Montini Catholic by participating in the Annual Fund. Your gift, no matter the amount, truly makes a difference in the Lasallian college preparatory experience that we provide each one of our students. For 47 years, Montini Catholic has sought the support of the members of the school community; especially those who have benefited from its mission of education. It has never been part

of the Lasallian philosophy to charge a tuition rate that reflects the actual cost of educating a Montini Catholic student. Every student that has attended Montini Catholic has benefited from the generous support of alumni, parents, and friends to the Annual Fund. The 2013 – 14 Annual Fund seeks to “Bridge the Gap” between the actual cost of providing a Montini Catholic education to our students ($11,900 for the 2013-14 school year) and the revenues that we collect through tuition and fees this year ($10,600 on average). I am writing to you today to ask that you help us bridge this $1300 gap by making a gift to the 2013-14 Annual Fund. By making a gift to the “Bridge the Gap” Annual Fund, you are providing us with the additional revenue needed: • To maintain the high number of quality academic and extracurricular offerings. • To insure that Montini Catholic can pay competitive salaries to its faculty, • To keep technology current for students and faculty • To offer community service learning programs that provide a well-rounded education for each Montini Catholic student. • To help keep tuition affordable for all families • To provide additional funds for the student financial aid program. Thank you for your support of Montini Catholic. My very best to you and your loved ones “May Jesus Live in Our Hearts…Forever” Sincerely,
James F. Segredo President

ARE YOU PREPARED?
T
he Scout motto, “Be Prepared!” is an important one to follow. Are you prepared if something should happen to you? Is your estate plan in good order? If you become incapacitated and are not able to make medical decisions yourself, have you made your own wishes known & named a health care “power of attorney” to make those decisions in a Living Will? So, why do you need an estate plan? Whether you own large amounts of personal property or little; whether you are the head of a large household or have no dependents, good estate planning means, at a minimum: A. Making certain that after your own death your property will be disposed of according to your wishes; B. Protecting against estate “shrinkage” brought on by federal estate tax or state “death taxes”, expenses of estate administration & other such causes;
good to me! Now I want to give something back!” Your own favorite charities are deserving of your thoughtful support not only during your lifetime but through your estate plan as well. Non-profit charities do not pay estate taxes so a charitable bequest may help the tax situation of your own estate. You can support of Montini Catholic by: A. Bequesting a gift through your will or living trust; B. Making Montini Catholic a beneficiary of your life insurance, retirement plan, savings or brokerage account or an annuity. We hope you will consider including Montini Catholic in your will OR your estate plans. I would be pleased to hear from you as you plan ahead! I invite you to review our website, the Support Montini tab, and the Planned-Giving/ Estate page for ideas and strategies concerning such plans. I also advise contacting your own financial and/or legal advisor as you review such options! Truly yours,
C. Taking steps to protect beneficiaries with special needs & making your own wishes known on practical matters such as funeral & burial preferences;

IN MEMORIAM...
A thorough will is usually the cornerstone of any estate plan. A simple codicil will allow you to make those small changes to your will, such as adding a beneficiary. Some people use a trust to declare their wishes, provide income to family members, transfer investment worries to a trustee of their own choosing and possibly save on federal estate taxes and estate administration costs. So, you might be thinking,“I’ve worked hard. Life has been
