PHASE IV

“As we reflect on our 50th Golden Jubilee school year, we find ourselves in a moment of great opportunity.”

FROM OUR PRESIDENT Dear Alumni and Friends of Montini Catholic, The 2015-16 school year was a significant and meaningful moment in our school history as it marked the 50th year of Lasallian Education at Montini Catholic. There was so much to celebrate during our Golden Jubilee. It was an opportunity for us to come together as a school community to remember, to reminisce and to be proud of our accomplishments and achievements. Throughout our history, Montini Catholic has provided its students with the opportunities, educational resources, programs, and facilities to grow in their faith, to learn and to achieve academically, to develop talents and skills in extracurricular activities and to lead and serve through community service experiences. Over the last sixteen years, our ‘Celebrate Our Future … Building On Success’ Campaign has been committed to advancing this mission of education by providing present and future students with the very best in educational instruction, facilities, equipment and programs. As we reflect on Montini Catholic’s fifty year history and tradition, we find ourselves in a moment of great opportunity. We have a chance to build upon our rich history and accomplishments of the first three phases by successfully completing Phaze IV of our ‘Celebrate Our Future...Building On Success’ Campaign. Please review the initiatives described in the following pages. I ask that you reflect on the impact Montini Catholic has had on your life as you consider your support of Phase IV. Montini Catholic is a very special school. I hope that you will recognize the promise Phase IV of the campaign holds for the school, its students and its future. Working together, we can achieve our campaign goals and ensure that the Lasallian mission of education continues for the next fifty years. Please join us in celebrating our 50th Anniversary Captial Campaign and “May Jesus Live In Your Hearts…Forever” Sincerely,

James F. Segredo President

Fostering flourishing talent . . . current situation The present Music Wing was built in 1983 as part of the East Gymnasium Expansion. Three rooms were constructed for the purpose of instrumental and vocal instruction and rehearsal. Cement block was used in the construction of the rooms and sound insulation and absorption were not incorporated in the plans. Ten foot ceiling heights were approved for each room. The recommended range of ceiling heights for band and choral rooms is 16 to 22 feet. Individual practice rooms, and recording equipment were not included in the design. Storage space for instruments, equipment, uniforms, sheet music were not adequately provided for in the original design. Over the past four years, student interest in the Montini Catholic music program has significantly grown, especially in the area of instrumental music. Currently, 21% of the student body is involved in at least one music class at Montini Catholic. There is enough interest to host a freshmen and varsity band. Our vocal music program consists of freshmen, sophomore, varsity and chamber choir and two acappella music groups.

Encouraging fitness and wellness . . .

Montini Catholic High School 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign

Physical Fitness & Gymnasium addition current situation Physical Fitness Center

The weight lifting area is currently located in a small section of the balcony of the gymnasium. The room is not adequate in size for general student or team use after school hours. The room is equipped with free weights and plate loaded free weight machines. Cardiovascular equipment is at a minimum. Weight equipment is also located in the boys locker room. Separate areas for weight training pose a supervision challenge.

The present weight equipment is also inadequate for the needs of the school's two strength and power physical education classes, regular physical education classes and after school usage.

Gymnasium Area

Based on the practice schedules of the Volleyball and Basketball teams, the Broncettes and Cheerleaders use the cafeteria for weekday practices. Both teams lack privacy in this area. The Field House is not an option for practices (rubber flooring is not conducive for dance performances). In addition, required rehearsal music disrupts each team as well as other teams practicing in the Field House. Because of the two teams’ usage of the cafeteria, students do not have a place to gather after 3:30 p.m. Currently, their options are to gather in the Ed and Pam Mack Learning Resource Center or to sit in the hallways by their lockers. The Athletic Trainer area is located in a small office next to the boys locker room.

Boys Locker Room and Coaches Office

With the growth in enrollment and the growth in the number of male sport teams, the original locker room space for students and coaches, designed in 1966, is no longer adequate.

Encouraging fitness and wellness . . . RecommendationS •

Remove the weight and wrestling rooms located in the balcony of the gymnasium and provide for a large fitness center to be used by students and teams at the same time. Install a full glass wall overlooking the gymnasium

• Equip physical fitness center with weight training machines, cardiovascular fitness equipment, free weights and plate loaded free weight machines

Designate a storage area

Total renovation and enlargement of the boys locker room and coaches office area

Construct a new wrestling room on the second floor

Construct a two story addition to the north east side of the gymnasium to provide rehearsal/practice space for the Broncettes and Cheerleading Team, athletic trainer and wrestling The first floor of the addition should be designed as a multipurpose practice space for the Broncettes and Cheerleading Team. Ceiling height should be 20ft. When not used by the Broncettes and Cheerleading Team the space can be used by other athletic teams

The first floor of this addition should also be designed to provide office, taping and storage space for the Athletic Trainer School cafeteria becomes a supervised student commons after school hours

Cafeteria

Many areas of the student cafeteria were renovated in 2009. The renovation consisted of enlarging the kitchen serving area, building new storage areas along the east wall, purchasing new tables and chairs, and the addition of a new audio visual system, a school store and trophy cases.

Classrooms

There are 22 classrooms in the main school building, built in 1966. Over the last 49 years the classrooms have been repainted and new carpeting installed. Light fixtures have also been replaced. The original design did not allow for outdoor lighting.

Replace the lighting, ventilation and ceiling systems of the student cafeteria

Renovate the 22 classrooms in the original school building by retrofitting each classroom with energy efficient LED lighting, replace floor carpeting, install new ceiling tiles and upgrade the fire alarm/mass notification system Replace the current message board with an electronic message board (Completed)

16th Street Message Board

The message board on the corner of 16th Street and Meyers Road is not electronic. The board must be updated manually each week. It is very difficult to advertise more than one event, to keep information current and to announce accomplishments. Endowment

Ensuring our future

Previous generations endowed our school with a vision for the future. As we celebrate 50 years of Lasallian, college preparatory education, now is the time for the Montini Catholic school community to continue that legacy shaped by the De La Salle Christian Brothers and the Sisters of St. Dominic of Adrian, Michigan. The growth of the General Endowment Fund and the Scholarship Endowment Fund will help assure the school's long term financial stability and will make a long lasting impact on Montini Catholic students and their future.

current situation Twenty-four endowed scholarships totaling $435,600 make up the school's Scholarship Endowment Fund while the General Endowment Fund is $206,000. Montini Catholic is one of the most reasonably priced Catholic, private high schools in the western suburbs of Chicago. However, as tuition and fees continue to grow, many families are finding it more difficult to afford the cost of Catholic education, especially families with younger siblings.

recommendations •

• •

Raise $500,000 in total donations for the General and Scholarship Endowment Funds which would bring the school's Endowment Fund total revenue to over $1 million dollars Earnings from the General Endowment Fund will be directed by the Montini Catholic Board of Directors to meet its mission today and to advance the mission of education in future years. Priority will be given to raise faculty salaries and benefits as well as increasing funding for faculty professional development and continuing education opportunities Earnings from the Scholarship Endowment will provide additional revenue to the school's financial aid program and sibling discount program Provide opportunities for alumni and families to establish named endowed scholarships
