movies and TV series for kids, but basically, animation is a genre that should appeal to everybody. And that's why the Animaze Festival, coming to town between August, 18 to 21, will be a great occasion for animation fans to enjoy an ample list of movies in a variety of techniques and styles. The films will range from the conventional narrative to experimental; from realistic drawing to abstract; from classical to more innovative technologies. And remember too that animated films are not only

drawn (two or tri-dimensional), but they may also be made with clay or similarly malleable material, figurines, dolls, and a variety of more unconventional materials. Animaze will present a total of 170 short and feature films from 45 countries. For the most part, the screenings will be at the Maxwell Cummings Auditorium of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, but there will also be outdoor screenings: one a 360º dome presentation of Android Jones' "Samskara". There will also be outdoor shows at the Parc des Ameriques (St. Laurent and Rachel). Of course, besides the international presence, the local creators will also have the occasion to present their movies. "Montreal plays a key role in animation history, and we want to capitalize on its bright future by unifying and connecting creative people in animation, video games and new media. The possibilities have never been greater," said Laurie Gordon, Animaze Festival director. Another local celebrity that will be on hand for Animaze is The Gazette's political cartoonist Aislin (Terry Mosher) who will take

Endangered species in VSL's Technoparc - Elizabeth May asks for federal intervention

lizabeth May, leader of the Green Party of Canada (GPC), stood beside the marshes of Technoparc in Ville St Laurent (VSL) on August 10, calling on federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna to intervene and protect endangered species in the way of a construction project. “The GPC stands with all those who are fighting to save the last remaining jewels of biodiversity on the Island of Montreal... endangered Least Bitterns and other rare birds need to be protected. I am calling on the federal government to do its job,” said May. She referred not only to the federal Species at Risk Act, but also to an international treaty signed by Canada to protect migratory birds. There are multiple sitings of Least Bitterns (Canada's smallest heron) in this area: the total Canadian population is estimated at only 1,500. Some sitings are of fledglings, indicating that the bird nests here. Wood Thrushes, another endangered species, have also been observed. The GPC accuses the Quebec Environment Ministry of • August 13, 2016

issuing a Certificate of Authorization in 2013 based on a flawed environmental assessment that did not note the presence of endangered species. Municipal permits have already been issued to extend Alfred Nobel Blvd into or beside the marsh, and to construct buildings here, including the Hubert Reeves Eco-Campus. The REM electric train is also supposed to pass through this area with the construction of a train station nearby. But the federal government still has the power to intervene and halt these projects. While Montreal has plans to preserve part of the marsh and create a new, 45 hectare nature park in the area, other parts of the marsh are destined to be drained and landfilled. Environmentalist Lisa Mintz said that this new park will not be enough to save the endangered species. “Since no frog, bird, or snake will ever make a political contribution, our governments have quit protecting our environment,” cynically commented Ricardo Hrtschan, a lawyer and former politician who stood with May, members of the Green Coalition, and birdwatchers beside the marsh.

Joel Coutu, a noted ornithologist, describes the marsh as “a giant birdfeeder” that attracts many species of rare birds. “Some nest in trees, some nest in shrubs, some nest on the ground. Construction will suffocate this marsh, leaving only ducks and geese.” Coutu previously told us that the Bitterns are very shy and any construction in this area will likely chase them away permanently. Environmentalists also raised concerns how native vegetation will likely be replaced by grass, attracting ducks and geese. Daniel Green, deputy leader of the GPC pointed out that ducks and geese can pose a real security problem for jet airplanes at the nearby Trudeau Airport. “If Quebec does not act, Ottawa must,” said Green. He also said that construction projects could be built on abandoned industrial land instead of on green space, citing the new MUHC hospital in NDG. May noted the presence Wednesday of Quebec Green Party leader Alex Tyrrell who supports the GPC on this dossier. This may be the first time that the two parties have worked together. www.mtltimes.ca

The commando infiltrated North Korean troops now forgotten war, rarely a subject of conversation except for the sporadic tensions that arise between the two countries living side by side in the Korean peninsula, may get more attention with the release of the movie "Operation Chromite." Directed by John H. Lee and with Liam Neeson playing the role of controversial General Douglas McArthur, this film focuses on a little known but significant episode at the very beginning of the war. The film claims to be inspired by true events. The main event that makes the movie's plot is the action of a South Korean intelligence commando which infiltrated the North Korean detachment in the city of Incheon. The town was strategically vital since that would be the place that Gen. McArthur (Liam Neeson) chose to start the American counterattack on the North Korean army which by August 1950 had occupied most of South Korea. The movie is quite explicit in showing the brutalities of the conflict on both sides. The South Korean commando would kill a North Korean military inspector, then Jang Hak Soo (Lee Jeong-jae) would supplant the murdered North Korean officer and try to obtain the necessary information about the defences in the city and transmit it to the American forces. The task, of course, won't be easy, especially since Soo was always under the suspi-

Since then, I have purchased various items testing them all out individually. Having chronic eczema all my life, my skin has never felt or looked better. What amazing products.” Trevor P. The Healing Art of Reflexology Sponsored

R

eflexology is not a new therapy by any means, it has been around for more than 5000 years ago practiced in China, in Egypt, which had one of the oldest documented examples of the practice of this therapy. A pictograph dated around 2500-2330 BC at Saqqara in the tomb of the Physician Ankmahor shows two practitioners working on their two clients. Another track if this therapy was passed down to the American Indians. The western knowledge of Reflexology has early roots in Europe where it was known and practiced as far back as the fourteenth century it came to North America about 100 years ago. The interest and knowledge has continued and it has developed into a worldwide therapy. Reflexology is a Natural Healing Therapy without the use of drugs. It is based in the principle that there are reflexes in the hands and feet which correspond to every part,

gland and organ of the body. By stimulating these reflexes, we are sending natural energy along the nervous system or meridian lines to clear any congestion or blockage on these lines in the corresponding zones. This helps improve the flow of blood which in turn sends any nutrients needed to areas which are congested or blocked due to illness. This then helps these areas become balanced and normalized. There are thousands of nerve ending in each foot which are connected to the spinal cord, brain and all areas of the body, which explains the great relaxation status during and after the session which leads to relieving tension and stress. The Reflexology session takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour in length and is done in a quiet and relaxing environment accompanied by relaxing therapeutic music, essential aromatic oils and a variety of light therapies in the same time for its effectively in

the management of a number of disorders. Professional stimulation of the reflex areas on the feet serves to establish which parts of the body are out of balance and therefore not working efficiently. Reflexology is a very relaxing art and has proven effective for a variety of aliments. It can be successfully used for the most of life’s every day problems such as headaches, high and low blood pressure, insomnia, anxiety, nervousness, constipation, kidneys, bladder problems, arthritis, many forms of neck and back pains and is an excellent for management of P.M.S. problems. It also helps to prevent disease and allows you to live a happy healthy, relaxed lifestyle with a positive outlook on life. The earthy and rich flavors of the black sausage combined with the opulence of the fried egg and potatoes overpowered the wine. It would have been better a red choice. Actually, I had a chance to taste as well the new line of wines developed by Chartier to Jerome Ferrer restaurants. A white, rose and red. An outstanding trio. The red, a Bordeaux blend, was the perfect match with the boudin noir. Fragant black fruit flavors with toasted coffee undertones, along with sweet tannins playing down the opulence of the dish.
