The West Island Mission food bank is one of the groups that receives funding from West Island Community Shares. The theme for the breakfast was inspired by an example of how Community Shares’ funding helped the food bank provide food to families in need. “Volunteers from the Mission were delivering a food basket to the family. When they arrived, two little children were anxiously waiting to see what goodies would be in the basket,” said Ms. Bayer. “‘Daddy, we have cereal!’ they shouted when they saw a box of cereal that any of us might find in our cupboard on any given week. Then, they saw the carton of milk. ‘Daddy we even have milk to go with the cereal!’ they shrieked before running off to the kitchen to eat cereal with milk” Donations to West Island Community Shares can be made on its secure webserver at www.communityshares.ca 100% of donations will go directly to the community groups because corporate partners cover operational costs. The West Island is the only community in Canada to sustain this model for more than 19 years.

MSSI becomes LES SOMMETS New identity for pillar of the ski industry

olstered by its international notoriety and the ensemble of its activities available all year long, MSSI has decided to reposition its brand with the help and support of Cossette, a leading communications agency, and Sigmund, a modern digital agency. A new identity is born.
From the first ski lifts in North America to the development of one of North America’s biggest ski resorts, the story of Mont SaintSauveur is one about family, ambition, innovation and passion. From its very first steps as Mont Saint-Sauveur in the early 70s, the company just kept getting bigger, implementing a ton of innovations and becoming the most important economical generator for the region. Combining many ski resorts, a campground, a tree-top adventure, a water park, an amusement park, and now a minigolf, Mont Saint-Sauveur has become over the years a leader in the tourism industry.

 MSSI becomes les Sommets
Proud of its history and following in its Founder Jacques G.Hebert’s footsteps, the Quebec company wishes to put its greatest strength forward: being the group with the most ski resorts in Quebec. Proud of its origins and wanting to turn over a new leaf while keeping its essence and its founders’ passion, group Mont Saint-Sauveur today becomes les Sommets. The passion comwww.mtltimes.ca

ing from the company owning 5 ski resorts, showcases its mission of keeping people moving. Thanks to its active and varied entertainment (ski, snow tubing, camping, water park, etc…), les Sommets lets this force and festive offer shine through. « I am very excited about this evolution, because it illustrates and confirms the flexibility we show facing the society’s changes. It highlights a successful intergenerational transfer, which is rare these days with Quebec companies,» says les Sommets CEO, Mr. Louis Philippe Hébert. Through this brand identity change, a complete new website has been created in collaboration with Sigmund, which will include all of the summits. De facto, Sommet Saint-Sauveur, Sommet Morin Heights, Sommet Olympia, Sommet Gabriel and Sommet Edelweiss will regroup on one single website: www.sommets.com. Furthermore, the transactional platform has been completely redesigned, offering a user-friendly device for all outdoor activity lovers.
« A company must innovate, show a young and dynamic image. Being in the recreation market, our image must express the quality of our products and service. Our new identity captures the essence of a young and innovative company,» says les Sommets Chairman of the Board and Customer Experience Vice-President Mr. Louis Dufour.

How to sell a house that didn't sell WEDNESDAY

October 26, 2016

MONTREAL - If your home has just come off the market and hasn't sold, don't be discouraged. The reason your home did not sell may have nothing to do with your home or the market. In reality, your home may have been one of the more desirable properties for sale. So Why Didn't Your Home Sell? Last year many of the homes listed for sale never sold at all, and many sellers found that there was a tremendous amount a homeowner needed to be educated on to sell their home for top dollar in the shortest time period.

Don't risk making the wrong choices and losing both time and money on your investment. Before you hire a realtor, know the right questions to ask to save you time and money. Industry experts have prepared a free special report called "How to Sell a House that Didn't Sell" which educates you on the issues involved. Celebrate Halloween with your community and its local merchants Linda Richer of Robert Richer Jewellers with contest winner from last years Dorval Mainstreets Halloween event

S

aturday, October 29, the merchants of Dorval invite the Montreal community for an afternoon of costumed, Halloween fun. The event runs from 3-6pm, with the main activities centred around 200-208 Dorval Avenue, at the corner of Dawson Avenue.

By Jillian Clark mtltimes.ca www.mtltimes.ca

Linda Richer and her husband Pierre—the local owners of Richer Jewellers—are excited to celebrate Halloween with the families of Dorval this coming Saturday. Linda is on the committee of volunteers organizing the event, and Pierre is the current President of the Dorval Main Streets Association. If you’ve visited Dorval recently, you’ve probably seen the construction consuming Dorval Avenue. Fortunately, this welcomed facelift is almost complete. “We are taking advantage of the event to inaugurate the renovation of Dorval Avenue,” said Linda Richer. Expect new bike paths and new sidewalks as a part of this street-long renovation. “It was a much needed upgrade.” WEDNESDAY

There will be prizes for the best costumes for children, and for dogs Linda, Pierre, and their community of merchants want to make the end-of-construction celebration extra special in light of the Halloween season. Come out for an afternoon of ghoulish delights organized specially for their neighbours and the children. Expect music, costumes, pumpkins, and prizes. “We will have live DJs from local radio stations,” said Linda. “We also have a professional pumpkin carver that will be demonstrating for the afternoon.” The kids can even decorate pumpkins themselves to take home. Kids are encouraged to dress up for the occasion. “We will have prizes for the best costumes for children, and for dogs!” said Linda. A game of merchant hide and seek will guide attendees throughout the neighbourhood. Rumour has it that most merchants will be prepared with candy for the kids upon arrival. If sugary treats aren’t your favourite, check out the local food vendors scattered along the way. The merchants have the treats covered, but the big tricks will be out on the street corner, after dark. “The big finale is the fire jugglers. That will be quite spectacular,” said Linda. 14

"This award is my first award ever won in Canada, that's why it's so important to me. I've been awarded and nominated in the USA several times and for each of my four movies. My latest one, 'Searching For Paradise', was co-produced with Chris Young from Toronto." Three of her movies were accepted for screening at the Cannes Film Market in the Short Film Corner section. One of the highlights of her career is when the movie trailer of her horror movie 'While The Village Sleeps' was nominated at the Hollywood Discovery Awards in 2012. That same year in December, the movie won 'Best International Screenplay' at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. What was it like to get on stage to receive her Canada Latin Award? "I was so nervous because I didn't prepare a speech, so I forgot to mention a few names of the people that had supported me. I'm usually good at speeches, but not this time! I ended my speech by thanking God, because without Him, none of this could have been possible. Also, as I walked off of the stage, I was focusing on my steps to make sure I didn't trip and fall off my heels! This would have been a disaster - and a typical 'Chloë moment', as I am known to be clumsy…" She did manage to thank her friends from the radio station for supporting her work over the years and to everyone who voted for her, including her friends and family from Canada and the USA. What about her future goals? "I guess that getting an Official Selection laurel from the Cannes Film Festival would be one of my goals, but winning an Oscar for Best Screenplay is on top of my list!" And therefore her move to Los Angeles? "I took this leap of faith to extend my film network and get a chance to get my movie produced by Hollywood Studios. But I always keep a special place in my heart for the people that believed in me since I first started, the ones who have followed my ups and downs for the past decade... thank you to the Montreal Hispanic/Latino Medias and community!" Her last words? "This past year has thought me a lot about life. Being a screenwriter and film director isn't an easy career here in Montreal, especially when your movies are in English language. You don't always get the financial support that you need to produce high quality movies and get the international exposure that you want. I am not the most patient person, but I think I am one of the most grateful ones you'll meet. It hasn't been easy, but I've learned to find the positive in everything, good or bad, because the more I was grateful, the more the Universe gave me things to be grateful for. This Canada Latin Award is a gift that I will cherish forever, because to me, it was Montreal's very own way to say 'Good luck in Los Angeles, Chloë, and by the way, we love you'. I have no doubt whatsoever we will be hearing much more about Chloë Bellande in the years to come. Congratulations Chloë from the team at the Montreal Times!
