On Rock Calls for Non-Perishable Food Donations
Kim Reid, President and Founder of On Rock Community Services, overlooks community gathering
By Jillian Clark mtltimes.ca www.mtltimes.ca
T
he second annual On Rock fundraiser takes place next Saturday, October 22 between 11am and 1pm. On Rock is a Montreal-based Community Service Centre that positively impacts the lives of hundreds of our neighbours on the West Island. On Rock’s community programs include a drop-in centre and food bank, school lunch programs, and community dinners—most of these programs are run entirely on volunteer power. Volunteers receive, organize, and allot donations to about 200 families each week, and serve community dinners to about 40 On Rock members every Tuesday and Thursday. WEDNESDAY

“West Islanders need food” - Kim Reid
Raid your cupboards for non-perishable food items On Rock Community Services needs donations!
Special events, including the community dinners, draw On Rock members together to unite against the personal challenges they face. Donations are warmly welcomed and necessary to the success of On Rock’s community aid. These same volunteers will act as the pick-up drivers on October 22, stopping at various locations around the city, as well as organizers at the drop-off facilities in Pierrefonds. Raid your cupboards for non-perishable food items! The upcoming food collection drive will help stock the shelves of the food bank. This food is distributed among the On Rock community members, and used for their organized community dinners. Last year’s fundraiser brought in more than expected. On Rock hopes to top last year’s donations in order to feed more families than ever. 4

The individuals and families in need who benefit from On Rock’s services range greatly in age and personal situations. Mary Scott, a volunteer at On Rock, shared how the community service centre helped her and her family when she needed help most: “I am a cancer fighter, and when I couldn’t afford medication and had to make the difficult choice between food, shelter, or survival, On Rock made that time a little easier by providing me and my family with food baskets.” Mary Scott’s need was sudden and
unexpected. No one can predict the onset of cancer, or the emotional and financial side effects. “I am college educated and had a great career,” she said. “This can happen to anyone.” Montreal can pay it forward to families in need by donating to On Rock. There is no minimum donation—every little bit helps. While they hope to receive plenty of donations on the Saturday of the fundraiser, donations are welcome year-round.
With the help of the community, On Rock has the ability to change lives for the better. Learn more about how to donate at www.onrock.org or on the Facebook event page https://www.facebook.com/events/1332846183422651/
The latest blow On Rock Communities have is the repair of their truck - over $6,000. Please donate!

How to sell high: Avoid these three mistakes when selling your home
WEDNESDAY
October 19, 2016
MONTREAL - When you decide to sell your home, setting your asking price is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Depending on how a buyer is made aware of your home, price is often the first thing he or she sees, and many homes are discarded by prospective buyers as not being in the appropriate price range before they're even given a chance of showing. Your asking price is often your home's "first impression", and if you want to realize the most money you can for your home, it's imperative that you make a good first impression. This is not as easy as it sounds, and pricing strategy should not be taken lightly. Pricing too high can be as costly to a home seller as pricing too low.
Taking a look at what homes in your neighborhood have sold for is only a small part of the process, and on it's own is not nearly enough to help you make the best decision. A recently study, which compiles 10 years of industry research, has resulted in a new special report entitled "Home sellers: How to Get the Price You Want( and Need)".This report will help you understand pricing strategy from three different angles. When taken together, this information will help you price your home to not only sell, but sell for the price you want. To order a FREE Special Report, visit: www.sellmyhouseformore.ca Get your free special report NOW to learn how to price your home to your maximum financial advantage

antam teams take over the Habs’ home rink December 13. Under Armour and the Montreal Canadiens’ Youth Hockey Development Group teamed up to organize Storm the Centre at the Bell Centre. What does Storm the Centre entail? Two Quebec Bantam level teams will take over the Habs’ ice in December. Essentially, the young teams will get the chance to live like Habs players for a day. However, these teams have to earn their spot on the ice. Bantam level hockey teams in Quebec are invited to register for the series of challenges that could grant their way to the final game. The challenges will narrow down the competitors to two lucky teams. These two winners claim a spot at the Armour Cup, which will take place at the Bell Centre in December—Storm the Centre. The Armour Cup is a full day of training with the Montreal Canadiens trainers, and a regulation game played on the Bell Centre’s ice. The qualifying challenges stretch over the next couple months, and are separated into three periods. The first period runs October 1 through to November 11. Participating teams can register up until November 11. The first period is all about building a fan base, alongside on- and office competitions. Only ten teams from the first period will qualify to move onto the second period.
