C

Canadian actor makes a difference with her work

By Jillian Clark mtltimes.ca www.mtltimes.ca

hristine Solomon is Egyptian born, but Montreal bred. We’ve kept an eye on her as she climbs the ranks as a Canadian actress. Now, she splits her time between Montreal and Los Angeles, but that doesn’t mean we love her any less. Her past films include The Score (2001), Basra (2008), Heliopolis (2009), and Betroit (2012), with plenty of other films and television shows filling the spaces in between. Lately, however, Christine Solomon has focused on projects that positively impact the lives of others. The past year especially has been a busy one. Let’s recap. “I think the biggest highlight of my career this year was working with Josh Duhamel on his campaign with GMC. It was an honour to be part of this wonderful campaign," Solomon shared in a personal email dialogue. The campaign is called Building for America’s Bravest. WEDNESDAY

Christine Solomon behind the scenes filming “Kids Can”

The campaign, headed by GMC and represented by Josh Duhamel, includes a documentary-style film in which Duhamel meets with American veteran, Marine Sergeant Ben Tomlinson. Sergeant Tomlinson is one of the few veterans with injuries living in a “smart home.” Smart homes make all the difference to the lives of injured veterans. These homes cater to the unique needs of soldiers after they return to their lives before war. These homes return the independence some soldiers unfortunately lose while fighting for their country. Solomon appreciates the opportunity to work for positive causes like GMC’s Military Appreciate Month contribution: “I love being part of projects that can make a difference. My goal as an actor has always been to use my voice to help others in need. I believe that artists have an obligation to speak up for those that can’t. And I got the opportunity to do that with this amazing project.” The list of veterans waiting for smart homes is over 200 long. Solomon’s desire to make a difference with her work continued into another project this year: a supporting role in Demetrius Navarro’s “Kids Can” film. The goal of the movie is to raise money for the Feed the Children Foundation.

11 Critical home inspection traps to be aware of weeks before listing your home for sale

MONTREAL - According to industry experts, there are over 33 physical problems that will come under scrutiny during a home inspection when your home is for sale. A new report has been prepared which identifies the eleven most common of these problems, and what you should know about them before you list your home for sale. Whether you own an old home or a brand new one, there are a number of things that can fall short of requirements during a home inspection. If not identified and dealt with, any of these 11 items could cost you dearly in terms of repair. That's why it's critical that you read this report before you list your home. If you wait until the building inspector flags these issues for you, you will almost certainly experience costly delays in the 16

close of your home sale or, worse, turn prospective buyers away altogether. In most cases, you can make a reasonable pre- inspection yourself if you know what you're looking for, and knowing what you're looking for can help you prevent little problems from growing into costly and unmanageable ones. To help home sellers deal with this issue before their homes are listed, a free report entitled "11 Things You Need to Know to Pass Your Home Inspection" has been compiled which explains the issues involved. To order a FREE Special Report, visit: www.montrealinspectionpitfalls.com Get your free special report NOW to learn how to ensure a home inspection doesn't cost you the sale of your home.

In the film, two children learn that their friend at school arrives on an empty stomach. The kids want to raise money for their friend, as well as Feed the Children, so they decide to make a movie. This project is currently still in production, but interested parties can donate online at Feed the Children’s website. Branching away from her kindhearted projects, Christine recently worked on an Arabic TV series that brings aspects from two of our favourite television shows together. Think Desperate Housewives meets Sex and the City for Solomon’s role in Yasmine. Yasmine is a comedy series that explores falling in love—sometimes in awkward or damaging ways—as well as moving on and surviving in a tangled dating world. Follow four women, including Solomon as Reem—the quirky roommate to Yasmine—as they fall in and out of modern love. Soon, Christine Solomon will rejoin forces with the previously mentioned Demetrius Navarro for a film titled “Follow Your Heart.” Stay tuned for more information on our favourite Canadian actress’s latest project, as shooting begins next month. Solomon’s versatility as an actor allows her to take on a variety of projects in English, French and Arabic. Her dedication to her art and charming personality shines through each role she takes on. his past April, the Montreal Canadiens partnered with the CWHL's Montreal Stars hockey team who are now called 'Les Canadiennes'. The transition from the 'Montreal Stars', an already famous name in women’s hockey, to Les Canadiennes, allows the female hockey players the chance to wear an iconic 'C' of their own, as well as to sport the 'Bleu, Blanc, Rouge' - as a member of the Canadiens’ family. The 2016-17 season will mark the 10th season for the Canadian Women’s Hockey League. Season tickets for the milestone 2016-17 season are now on sale. Training camp has been held at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard and the official opening weekend is set for Saturday October 15th and Sunday October 16th with the Brampton Thunder playing host to Les Canadiennes. Home games are played at the ÉTIENNE-DESMARTEAU ARENA in Rosemont, Montreal. Check back next week for more Canadiennes news!
