The Jacksons return to Montreal for a special 50th anniversary concert
he Jacksons, one of the most famous families in the history of American popular music, will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in the music business with a special intimate concert, which will take place on June 11, 8 p.m., at the L’Olympia on St. Catherine Street East.
Natives of Gary, Indiana, the Jacksons – Jermaine, Marlon, Tito, Jackie, Randy, and of course, the late Michael -- broke into the music scene on the legendary Motown label as the Jackson 5. Since then, they have racked up an impressive array of hit songs like “ABC”, “I Want You Back”, “Dancing Machine”, and “Enjoy Yourself”, and had the distinction back in 1970 of being the first recording act whom had their first four singles reach the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Throughout their 50 years, the Jacksons have had five of their albums hit the #1 position, had 17 top 10 albums, 17 singles that reached the top 40, got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1980, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll and Vocal Group halls of fame during the late 1990s.
after their free outdoor concert during the Just For Laughs festival, where they performed their array of hit songs and their trademark choreography, in front of an audience of over 55,000 spectators.
Tickets for the Jackson’s intimate 50th anniversary concert cost $86.23 each, with a limited amount of VIP ticket packages available (which include a meet and greet session with the group, as well as access to the sound check). rit & Chips, the chain of Montreal restaurants that offer you a taste of Britain with their excellent menu of authentic British fish & chips dishes, do their part for the Montreal 375th anniversary celebrations by teaming up with some prominent Montreal personalities, and on top of that, to benefit their respective favorite charities. From now until April of 2018, Brit & Chips will collaborate with these chosen Montreal personalities to create specially made recipes for their Fish of the Month menu item that will represent what Montreal means to them. And $1 from the sale of each Fish of the Month dish will benefit the local charity of choice of each Brit & Chips ambassador of the month.
It begins this month with rock star Jonas, who is now offering a salt and pepper tempura battered Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified sole dish with a spicy toasted sesame sauce, which will benefit the Breakfast Club of Canada. In May, chef Marc-Olivier Frappier from the popular Old Montreal eatery Joe Beef, will tantalize Brit & Chips customers with his Squid & Chips recipe, with $1 of the sale of each Squid & Chips dish going to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.
Two special dishes have already been announced for early 2018: Energie radio host Patrick Langlois’ recipe for MSC certified sole in a miso ginger batter (benefitting Global Citizen’s Initiatives), and CHOM’s Jason Rockman will offer a vegan take on fish & chips with his chipotle-battered smoked tofu (which will benefit Share the Warmth). The remaining nine celebrity fish & chips recipes that will be offered at Brit & Chips’ four Montreal locations, and the charities that they will benefit, will be unveiled within the next few months. Be Gossy events keep Rebecca busy, especially now with seven events scheduled over the next three months. Aside from events, she personally maintains the blog with the help of a small team.
The next event in Montreal is Be Gossy Media at the W Hotel on May 3. Be Gossy Media promises an evening of networking for aspiring journalists, publicists, bloggers, influencers—anything related to the world of media and branding. The focus will be on breaking into the industry, and how to be your own boss if you want to be.
“I concentrated Goss Club on finding the experts,” said Perez. “To find out what their story is and how they got there.” Her features led to her current partnership with W Hotels, who hosts her Be Gossy events. Her advice to other entrepreneurs is simple: “Do not let anyone tell you that you can’t pull something off.” Push your own boundaries to follow your passion. 11 Critical home inspection traps to be aware of weeks before listing your home for sale WEDNESDAY
April 19, 2017
MONTREAL - According to industry experts, there are over 33 physical problems that will come under scrutiny during a home inspection when your home is for sale. A new report has been prepared which identifies the eleven most common of these problems, and what you should know about them before you list your home for sale. Whether you own an old home or a brand new one, there are a number of things that can fall short of requirements during a home inspection. If not identified and dealt with, any of these 11 items could cost you dearly in terms of repair. That's why it's critical that you read this report before you list your home. If you wait until the building inspector flags these issues for you, you will almost certainly experience costly delays in the close of your home sale or, worse, turn
prospective buyers away altogether. In most cases, you can make a reasonable pre- inspection yourself if you know what you're looking for, and knowing what you're looking for can help you prevent little problems from growing into costly and unmanageable ones. To help home sellers deal with this issue before their homes are listed, a free report entitled "11 Things You Need to Know to Pass Your Home Inspection" has been compiled which explains the issues involved. To order a FREE Special Report, visit: www.montrealinspectionpitfalls.com Get your free special report NOW to learn how to ensure a home inspection doesn't cost you the sale of your home.

Canada's Controversial Cannabis Legislation By Bonnie Wurst mtltimes.ca
www.mtltimes.ca
B
y the summer of 2018 Canadians from coast to coast should be able to roll up or light up their pipes and paraphernalia with marijuana, without fear of being charged for possession or production - but much still depends on how the provinces want to handle it. On Thursday April 13th, the Liberal party of Canada kept its promise and introduced the legalization of recreational marijuana across the country, creating a huge 'buzz' - positive and negative. The legislation put forth allows provinces, territories and municipalities to adapt the rules for their own jurisdictions and how they want to enforce and regulate them - such as licensing, distribution and retail sales and whether marijuana can be sold like alcohol. Provinces will also be able to set their own zoning rules for cannabis industries and adapt provincial traffic safety laws. WEDNESDAY

It is expected to take months for the federal and provincial governments to study and go over the details of the bills before the specifics are ironed out and things are clearer. Here in Quebec the government stated they are not against the legalization of marijuana, but they immediately voiced their concerns about the many responsibilities and potential problems that will come with it, especially the anticipated high costs of applying the plan, policing and prevention programs which will be the responsibility of the provinces.
The legislation was inspired by several items besides the cries from recreational users to decriminalize their pot, such as strong evidence of the medicinal benefits of cannabis for those suffering from nausea associated with cancer treatments, chronic and arthritic pain, spasticity in multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and even chronic bowel inflammation among many other health issues. It is also aimed at taking the illicit business of marijuana off the streets and away from organized crime as much as possible, especially the access it gives to our youth.

Alcohol in Quebec can easily be bought by someone under 18 years of age at a corner store with a fake ID or by having someone over 18 years old purchase it for them, but cannabis can be bought on the streets and the dangers associated with it are very significant. Allowing uncontrolled access to our youth also creates higher addiction rates. Legalizing and controlling cannabis is not a 'cure all' as there will always be a 'black market', but it can put a substantial dent into the illegal operations.

The federal government said there will be severe penalties for those who involve youth in cannabis-related crimes and also a 'zero-tolerance approach' to driving under the influence of drugs. The legislation would allow police to use 'oral fluid screening devices' to check for marijuana use and new driving offences will be introduced for those caught driving while impaired. Police would be able to demand a saliva sample if they have 'reasonable suspicion' a driver has drugs in their body and if the test result is positive, it would give officers 'reasonable grounds' to demand a blood sample or further drug evaluation.

Sales of edibles will come later, once regulations for production and sale can be developed. - Possession, production and distribution outside the legal system would remain illegal, as would imports or exports without a federal permit. Such permits will cover only limited purposes, such as medical or scientific cannabis and industrial hemp. - Travelers entering Canada would still be subject to inspections for prohibited goods, including cannabis. - The existing program for access to medical marijuana would continue as it currently exists. - Regulations will prohibit package designs that can be deemed to be appealing to young people. Cartoon characters, endorsements or images that connect cannabis with a glamorous or exciting lifestyle would also be banned - and there will be restrictions on how cannabis can be advertised and promoted.
Here are some of the more important points from the Federal Legislation: - Sales are to be restricted to people age 18 and older, although provinces would have the jurisdiction to increase their own minimum age. - Adults 18 and older would be allowed to publicly possess up to 30 grams of dried cannabis, or its equivalent in non-dried form. - Sales by mail or courier through a federally liMuch still has to be reviewed and discensed producer would be allowed in provinces that lack a regulated retail system. cussed and the road to next summer's official - Adults aged 18 and older would be allowed 'lighting up' could be a bumpy one, but the dito grow up to four cannabis plants for each res- alogue is now open. re you nervous when wine shopping? Do you know how to tell a dry wine from full bodied wine? If you feel confused when trying to pick out a wine, you could probably adquire a bit more wine knowledge. The tips that I offered below will allow you to get started. If you are having seafood at dinner, Pinot Grigio could go really well with it. It can help bring out more of the food’s flavor.
