The sculpture by Catalan artist Jaume Plensa is called "Source" and will be located in the green area in the middle of the boulevard, near the emblematic Five Roses sign. The face of the sculpture will be facing downtown, as the artist explained during the conference at the MMFA. 11 Critical home inspection traps to be aware of weeks before listing your home for sale
MONTREAL - According to industry experts, there are over 33 physical problems that will come under scrutiny during a home inspection when your home is for sale. A new report has been prepared which identifies the eleven most common of these problems, and what you should know about them before you list your home for sale. Whether you own an old home or a brand new one, there are a number of things that can fall short of requirements during a home inspection. If not identified and dealt with, any of these 11 items could cost you dearly in terms of repair. That's why it's critical that you read this report before you list your home. If you wait until the building inspector flags these issues for you, you will almost certainly experience costly delays in the close of your home sale or, worse, turn
prospective buyers away altogether. In most cases, you can make a reasonable pre- inspection yourself if you know what you're looking for, and knowing what you're looking for can help you prevent little problems from growing into costly and unmanageable ones. To help home sellers deal with this issue before their homes are listed, a free report entitled "11 Things You Need to Know to Pass Your Home Inspection" has been compiled which explains the issues involved. To order a FREE Special Report, visit: www.montrealinspectionpitfalls.com Get your free special report NOW to learn how to ensure a home inspection doesn't cost you the sale of your home.

ike father, like daughter when it comes to Christina and Johnny Capobianco. “I have been performing with my father for the past fourteen years,” Christina said. Christina began performing at nine years old, and continues to perform in Montreal and Toronto. Christina and her father started singing together when she was sixteen for various bands. A few years later, their own band, The Grand Show Band, was born. The Grand Show Band’s upcoming concerts on May 12 and 13 hope to raise funds for Generations Foundation, an organization the pair have

been working with for five years now. “They took the initiative to host events and bring the community together to help children in need,” Christina Capobianco said. While the Capobianco family has worked with Generations Foundation in the past, previous years have not featured the much anticipated live concert portion. Past dinner galas have hosted “over 700 guests each year,” Christina said. This year, however, they “decided to change it up and host a concert!” After the concerts, a DJ
will play until 2am to keep the party going. Generations Foundation’s mission is “to develop and administer programs which will help improve the quality of life for persons of all ages.” Specifically, Generations Foundation feeds over 7,700 of Montreal’s children through their school programs each day. These programs include daily breakfasts, snacks, and hot lunches across 96 schools and education centers. Aside from providing meals, Generations Foundation also supports after school programs including
cooking classes and peer tutoring sessions. These programs have seen great success since their foundation, and have proven to make a difference in individual children’s lives. However, Generations Foundation runs on donations with no government assistance. That means that the more fun you have at the upcoming Grand Band Show concert, the more children you will feed. Both Generations Foundation and The Grand Show Band “would like to thank everyone that attends the event for the support,” said Christina. “Every ticket sold makes a difference in a child’s life.” Generations Foundation accepts donations yearround for those who cannot attend, but wish to help Montreal’s children. The upcoming concert will also feature a silent Johnny Capobianco auction with proceeds going to Generations Foundation. The celebrated John Pizzarelli Quartet will offer three concerts: the first with Catherine Catherine Russell (July 3), then with Jessica Molaskey taking on songs by Paul McCartney and Joni Mitchell (July 4), and finally with Daniel Jobim taking on songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim (July 5), all these concerts at 6 p.m. at the Gesù. For another kind of say that the term jazz, in this case, is somehow stretched to include many types of music that share with traditional jazz some common characteristics: urban in origin, somehow connected to black culture, and having some broad popular appeal. Thus, tango, flamenco, and all the variances of rock, country, and folk may also be included. As an example of this diversity, I should mention the presence of one of Canada's and the world's greatest exponents of country-rock, Serena Ryder who will be performing on July 8, at 9 p.m. at Metropolis. n Wednesday April 5th it was all over the news and social media. Hydro Quebec finally admitted to overbilling their customers for years - something many people had suspected for a long while, including the CAQ opposition party. They claimed that since 2008 the overbilling amounted to over $1.4 billion. It was followed by
By Bonnie Wurst mtltimes.ca
Hydro attempting to justify the charges, saying 'the amounts overcharged were handed over to the provincial government and therefore went into paying for services to the population' - but that excuse is not going over well with customers and critics. The CAQ, politically motivated of course, immediately launched an online petition demanding refunds. Then on Tuesday April 18th the CPA Coalition Peuple Allumé ('Switched On Coalition') held a citizen event in Montreal where a formal notice was drafted, demanding reimbursement on behalf of Hydro's customers. The notice was read out loud then handed over to a bailiff to be officially delivered to Premier Philippe Couillard's office - asking for a

clear commitment from the government as to how and when the payments will be made and demanding the province produce a plan within the next 10 days on how they will reimburse taxpayers or they will be 'required to undertake other actions'. To date there has been close to 38,000 'participations' in the proposed actions which include the notice, a petition and if needed, a class action suit. The actions can be found online at weroes.com, a civic action website. (You can also see the notice with this article on our website). Proponents of the actions estimate it would amount to about $350 per customer or a rate reduction of around 12% - but it is not as clear as that. Several well-informed and astute Montreal Times readers weighed in on the actions, questioning the amounts estimated or if Hydro will ever even pay back their customers. As well, one reader questioned if this is not simply a 'smoke and no fire' tactic by the CAQ for political gain - knowing well the money will never really be seen. The $350 average amount is not realistic, given that some people were not overcharged as much as others. Foremost, there is consumption to consider. Some people use more electricity than others - and the difference in their payments could amount to hundreds if not thousands of dollars overpaid. As well, what is the exact percentage overcharged?
Can Hydro even be trusted with those figures? Hydro-Québec has been overbilling for years and the government was aware of it. In 2015, Natural Resources Minister Pierre Arcand said money would be reimbursed to customers - once the government balanced its budget. Well, the government recently announced not only another balanced budget, but also an estimated surplus of $2.5 billion for the 2017-18 fiscal year. As well, with this knowledge Hydro still increased their rates by 0.7% on April 1st for residential clients as well many of their business customers - after requesting a 1.6% increase. Hydro said the reasoning behind this is because of 'higher costs of power purchases and lowerthan-anticipated demand'. Even with the increase, Hydro-Québec maintains its rates are still the lowest in North America and 'less than half of what people pay in Toronto and a quarter of what they pay in New York'. This does not sit well with Quebecers. And it shouldn't.Why should we not benefit from our natural resources as other provinces or countries do? According to the Coalition Peuple Allumé, the corporation's executives continue to receive
Mr. Philippe Couillard Prime Minister of Quebec 770, rue Sherbrooke Ouest, 4e étage Montréal (Québec) H3A 1G1 OBJECT:
Formal notice Mail delivered by judicial officer
Dear Mr. Prime Minister, This letter is to inform you that we are giving the Government of Quebec formal notice to reimburse Quebecers the $1.4 billion that Hydro-Québec has been overcharging to its customers since 2008. As Hydro-Québec's customers, we require that this amount that we have been overpaying to the energy company since 2008 as a result of excessive profits gained from higher returns than those established by the Régie de l'énergie as fair and reasonable shall be returned to Quebecers in accordance with your government's commitment. On June 4, 2014, when the budget was tabled, the Minister of Finance stated that overpayments were a onetime measure to allow the government to restore fiscal balance. On May 12, 2015, Pierre Arcand, Minister of Natural Resources, made a formal commitment to the National Assembly by stating: ³It was very clear in our minds that this measure was temporary. [«] I can tell you that as soon as a balanced budget is restored, it is clear that these efficiency gains will be restored to consumers.´ Furthermore, on April 5, 2017, the Minister formally promised to reimburse Quebecers by stating in the National Assembly: ³In the case of overpayments, now that we have balanced the budget, overpayments will cease and will, of course, be returned to consumers.´ Despite these repeated commitments, Quebecers continue to overpay and incur increases in energy rates. Over the past five years, increases represent twice the inflation. The number of Hydro-Québec customer disconnections has been steadily increasing since 2008, from 12,284 to 55,500 in 2015, and top executives of the corporation continue to cash performance bonuses, including an astounding amount of $23 million in 2015. Meanwhile, the government of Ontario recently decreed a 25% decrease in electricity bills as of June 2017. On behalf of more than 13,000 people who are participating in this formal letter by writing their name on weroes.com, we are formally requiring that Hydro-Québec give us back our money in accordance with your promise. We ask for a clear commitment from your government as of how and when the payment will be paid. In the absence of a response within the next ten (10) days, we will be required to undertake other actions. Yours faithfully, La Coalition Peuple Allumé

performance bonuses, including a record amount of $23 million in 2015. And for a fourth consecutive year, HydroQuébec’s contribution to the Québec government, its sole shareholder, exceeded $4 billion. CPA members also argue that 'Hydro-Québec is a state corporation whose benefits are supposed to be passed directly to citizens, preferably in the guise of lower rates. Shifting the profits to deficit reduction is akin to a hidden tax, and Hydro-Québec is running more like a profit-driven private corporation'. Members also complained that 'the provincial energy board sets rate hikes as well as profit margins the utility company is supposed to follow, but noth-
ing is done when HydroQuébec repeatedly surpasses those margins'. “Paying down the deficit is a good thing, but not on the backs of consumers paying for an essential service,” Pascal Zamprelli of the CPA maintained. All said, the question remains - will Hydro-QC customers ever see a refund? Time will tell. In the meantime, the meters are still running.

Bottle your own at The Wine Place Business profile
Quality can be easy & inexpensive...
T
he Wine Place is a local business where customers can go and bottle their own wine. There is a wide selection of ingredients for some 38 types of wine (French, Italian, Australian, reds, whites, ports, ice wine, etc) to choose from. No need to dance barefoot on the grapes either; specially-pressed grape juice is already waiting there 12 months of the year. Store personnel are either sommeliers (wine stewards), trained by the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers (CAPS), or are wine counsellors, and can assist customers in creating the requested vintage. Customers pay a small deposit on a minimum quantity of nine (9) litres. Some 30 days later, customers return to bottle their wine. “When you come to bottle the wine, you may taste it first. If for any reason, it isn't your liking, we give your deposit back,” explains Nathalie Bourget, the

company president. She mentions a blind taste test where subjects preferred a Wine Place vintage over a $42 bottle from the SAQ (Quebec liquor board). “Many people today don't have the time or perhaps the expertise to make their own wine at home. That's why the Wine Place bottling centre exists, making life easy. You come in, make make your selection, perhaps taking advantage of our knowledge and come back in 30 days to bottle it.” “The result is a quality wine for perhaps $3 to $4.50 a bottle or; if you want to splurge, a fancy label and cap will cost another 40 cents. It can look and taste like wine from the SAQ.” “Here, you don't need to pay the 70% taxes charged at the SAQ and Ville St Laurent is much closer than Hawkesbury!” (the Liquor Control Board of Ontario has an out-
let in Hawkesbury.Wine prices there, one hour west of Montreal, are lower than at the SAQ) Bourget stresses that, while home wine making is traditionally seasonal (September and October), Wine Place wine can be made 12 months of the year. She recommends customers bring their own sterilized bottles for the bottling; otherwise empty bottles can be bought at the Wine Place for $1.20 each. The Wine Place is open Tues. thru Friday: 9AM—6PM; Saturday: 9AM—5PM. Closed: Sun, Mon. The company also has a wholesale arm, Pure Wine Inc. that imports and distributes juice throughout Canada. Meet Grandma Millie the Shepherd
randma Millie is a German shepherd mix and about to celebrate her 12th birthday with the DiGregos family who adopted her when she was just 6 weeks old. A friend told them about a German Shepherd who had given birth to a litter of six pups under the back stairs of her neighbour's home, but for some reason had abandoned them. "My friend's neighbour discovered them when they were no more than 3-4 weeks old… she thinks the mother must have been killed or went away and died… unfortunately four of the pups had died, but two survived and she took them in and nurtured them," said Angela. Being dog lovers, they went to see the pups right away and their hearts were smitten. "As soon as we saw her we knew right away we would take her in.
12

My friend took the other pup, but sadly it died just a week later. Our dog Billie had died about a year before and we weren't really ready for another one…
but she seemed to be a gift, an angel of sorts I guess, so we named her Millie." Millie had some health issues at first, but with loving care she managed to grow into a healthy adult dog. She's given them much joy over the years, but now she is 'an old girl' and has slowed down quite a bit. "Although she is a mix, she inherited the typical problem with her hips that a lot of shepherds get… it's hard for her to
get around and well, she is actually very old for her kind… it's why we now call her Grandma Millie." The DiGregos family are fully committed to making sure the last years of her life are as comfortable as possible and they have adapted areas of the house for her. "She needs to pee a lot and can't hold it in the way she used to, so at night or when we have to go out for just a short while and nobody can watch her, we have an extra room where we covered the floor with some plastic sheeting and put disposable padding on top… she likes the room and stays in there a lot." Grandma Millie holds a special place in their hearts - and will surely be cared for with love and compassion until she is ready to say goodbye. or the sixth year in a row, Westmount's Mountainside United Church organized a concert to raise funds for Sun Youth's children's programs. The show entitled "En Harmonie 4 Kids" was held on Saturday, April 22nd and brought together talented performers, adults and children, united to help kids in need. Throughout the evening, the Mountainside United Church Choir, The Junior Chorale of the English Montreal School Board, the Montreal Chinese Children's Choir, le Petit Choeur de Rosemère, the Montreal Intercultural Choir, The Con Brio ensemble of FACE School and the McGill Conservatory Children’s Choir offered a varied program of choral and orchestral arrangements to a captive audience. Kids helping kids is always a great story and often a rare occurrence, making this event all the more special. Smoking Wings on the BBQ
I
By Chef Peter Webster of Bouquet Garni Catering
am not a big fan of Buffalo wings. I like spicy food but any Buffalo wings I have tasted are just too overpowering with red hot sauce. The rest of my family won’t touch anything with a bone in it. It is just too unladylike! My buddy, Don Urquhart, brought over some wings for me to try. His Buffalo wings were the talk of his kingdom. He was always being asked to bring them wherever he went. His wings are very good but not being a big fan I thought I might try something a little different using some of my own expertise on the BBQ. Smoking wings on the BBQ involves indirect heat, wood chunks and chips, a dry rub for the chicken and a glaze to finish. Of course, with any smoking project, the most important ingredient is
time. You can not rush a good smoking! I used Mesquite wood chunks and maple wood chips for this smoking. I wrapped them up in a double layer of tinfoil and poked air holes all around for the smoke to escape. I set the BBQ up for indirect heating, meaning the foil pack of wood would be set over the hot burner and the wings would be smoked on the other side of the BBQ over a cold burner. The maximum temperature for the smoking was 250ºF. I washed the wings and dried them with a paper towel. I used a spice rub consisting of black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder and seasoned salt. All ingredients were of the same measure except the pepper which was twice the amount. The wings were liberally sprinkled with

the rub and tossed in a bowl to coat. Once the BBQ came to 250ºF and the smoke was evident, I laid the wings out over the grill and closed the lid to wait. I smoked the first side for 30 minutes. I opened the BBQ and flipped the wings and smoked the other side for another 30 minutes. Meanwhile I made the glaze, which took about 5 minutes. It was 1 cup honey, 3/4 cup BBQ sauce and a splash of Jack Daniels (you could use apple juice) and stirred it up. Simple and easy. Once the second side was smoked, I turned on the second burner under the wings. When the temperature reached 350ºF, I flipped the wings and brushed the glaze over the wings. With the lid open, I finished cooking the wings, glazing as necessary until they were nicely caramelized. About another 20 minutes. I asked Don to try them and he said they were ok. But he did eat a rather large plateful. My family? Don’t ask! Comment on this article at: www.mtltimes.ca

I chose the Indian Summer ($10) from the choice of five house cocktails for myself, and Wes chose a Mojito. The menu offers various items, ranging from meatlover choices, to fish and seafood, as well as homemade veggie burgers and a children’s menu. We started with the Classic Nachos entrée ($7) and the General Tao Calamari entrée ($12). food we eat. After a winter full of hearty comfort foods, it’s time to switch to something a little lighter and heart-healthy. Heart disease is one of Canada’s leading causes of death, but up to 80% of premature heart disease and stroke is preventable by adopting healthy habits that include exercising regularly, refraining from smoking, adopting a lowsodium diet, maintaining a healthy body weight, taking medication as directed and limiting alcohol consumption. These lifestyle changes may also delay the onset of heart disease or stroke by as many as 14 years. A heart healthy diet is rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains and their fibre, lower-fat milk and alternatives, and lower-fat meat and alternatives, including fish which provide omega 3 fats. Foods to limit include sodium, added sugar and saturated and trans fats. Let’s focus on fibre! Fibre slows the digestion and absorption of foods we eat and can help manage cholesterol and blood glucose levels. You can get fibre from fruits, vegeta-
bles, whole grains, beans and legumes, as well as nuts and seeds. Most adults need at least 25 g of fibre per day depending on age, gender and health conditions. Keep in mind when adding fibre into your diet, do so gradually and drink lots of fluids. Chia seeds, flaxseeds and hemp hearts are all easy options for adding fibre to your diet. These seeds are similar in their nutritional benefits as they provide omega 3 fats, fibre and some protein. Although they are similar, they do have their own unique nutrient profiles so including a variety is key. Flaxseed is the highest in omega 3 fats, hemp hearts are the highest in protein, and chia seeds are the highest in fibre! All you need is one to two tablespoons of these seeds per day, as they pack a lot of nutrition in small quantities. You can sprinkle these seeds in cereals, yogurt, and salads and add them to smoothies or baked goods. If you’re looking for a delectable dessert, try this chocolate cherry chia pudding to satisfy your sweet tooth. Chia seeds

It is no real surprise that wanting to have it all, to be in control, to be perfect, achieve greatness, and to be fully supportive is impossible. Yet we try, and, no surprise, we are stressed. Stress is often at the core of our menstrual imbalances. Stress and its accompanying fear and frustration are the triggers for the inflammation, pain, irritation, fatigue and sadness that we feel in connection to our monthly cycle. To attain balance in our body and life, we need to find time to check in with ourselves and rest/relax our nervous system. Yoga Therapy, unlike regular yoga classes, attends to a specific condition. lovely. Earthy. Fresh.” Breathes of lavender or sandalwood or patchouli or lemongrass. Subtle and seductive. And just as special as that first kiss, our soaps continue to nourish a relationship with your skin. You do need a soap dish. Sigh! No spouts or pumps with all natural bars. More work maybe, but more benefits too. It is worth the trouble. Please do not compare a truly natural soap bar with a commercial soap bar. That is like comparing dogs to donuts. Most commercial bars are not soap at all. They claim to be. They put down real soap and say it will dry out your skin and
leave a film. Clever marketing and so not true. Imagine a soap commercial that reads like a drug ad Y ou will love our gentle soap. No messy bars. No film residue. An easy pump dispenses pure natural goodness. Comes in 7 different fragrances. Side effects may include: Extremely dry skin, may cause redness, irritations, and increased toxicity to skin, contains known carcinogenic ingredients. Let’s LOVE the soap we choose. Reminiscent of Grandma, of back home, of homemade. Pure. Discover for yourself. Love yourself head to toe. Soap Yourself.

The most common places to have YOUR PAIN IS A RED FLAG IF YOU SUFFER FROM the worst posture •Back Pain Sponsored

our posture is with you everywhere you go, and with every activity that you do. Posture is habitual, meaning that without conscious attention to posture, many people have poor posture presentations without even thinking about it. In fact, the areas that we spend the most amount of our time are the places that we commonly have the worst posture. If you spend more than an hour per day in these places your posture may be compromised. Most common places to have the worst posture • Seated at the Office: Being seated for hours per day is tough on your posture, and is one of the most common reasons for postural decline. While seated at your desk sit back in your chair to keep your back straight and keep your computer at eye level. Looking down for long periods of time is one the best way to cause headaches and neck pain. Try using a posture cushion to sit on for better posture, and put something underneath your computer monitor if necessary to keep the monitor at eyelevel. • Driving in a Car: When
• April 29, 2017
driving in a car, especially for long periods of time, many people are slumped in their seats and forget to sit up straight. People commonly drive with one hand, meaning that their shoulders are misaligned. While driving think of sitting up straight and keeping both hands on the steering wheel. • Standing in Line: Face it, what do all of us do while standing in line? We pull out our cell phones and look down at our phones to pass the time of waiting in line. Looking down at a cell phone adds much strain to your neck. Plus, when your feet get tired do you commonly shift your weight from one leg to the other? Keeping your weight distributed over both feet with your cell phone brought up to eye level is the best way to pass your time while waiting in line. Sleeping in Bed: We spend a lot of time of bed! With bad posture every night, this accumulates to hours and hours of poor posture throughout your life. Instead of sleeping on your stomach roll over to your back or your side. These are the best positions to sleep in. Also, don’t put too many pillows underneath your head, for best posture you want your head to be in a neutral position while sleeping. Posture Challenge Do yourself a favor and do a 24-hour posture challenge. For the next 24
hours pay conscious attention to your posture in the areas that are most common for poor posture. If you notice that your posture is weak, then correct your posture by doing the following Posture Sequence. Posture Sequence • Stand up or Sit up straight • Pull your shoulders back • Pull your chin back so your ears are aligned over your shoulders • Distribute your weight evenly over both feet • Keep your feet pointed forward When it comes to posture, you can design beautiful posture. However, it requires attention. The first step to making positive posture changes is to pay attention to your posture in the “Most Common Places to Have the Worst “Posture.” If you notice bad posture habits, implement the Posture Sequence into your daily activities, do not ignore your body’s cry for help, and consult your local chiropractor for a spinal check-up!
