Vincent Auto Recycling in Lachine Still Going Strong after 70 years “Where do you go for inexpensive used auto parts? Vincent's Auto Centre is where...”

By: John Symon / mtltimes.ca

Few businesses remain open for seven decades, but Vincent, an auto recycler in the former Ville St Pierre (now part of Lachine) can make this boast. The familyowned business helps Montreal area residents find inexpensive used car parts, selling to both garages and to individuals. Vincent also offers auto body repair and car painting.

“My dad, Marcel, opened the business in 1947,” explains co-owner Ron Vincent. “My brothers and sister took over the business from him in 1998. Today, seven

people work here. We buy cars for scrap and then sell the parts.”

“We have thousands and thousands of recycled auto parts here in our 17,000 square foot facility. This includes rubber mats, tires, motors, transmissions, headlights, taillights; whatever is on a car.” Prices can be very competitive on used parts: good used batteries sell here for $35 versus $150 elsewhere for an equivalent battery new.

. "We also sell quality used tires for $35 each where the same tires new might cost $135 elsewhere. We also have very good prices on parts such as doors, windows, hoods, lights, bumpers, tires and mechanical pieces. Customers can save a lot of money on some car parts here." Some customers pick up parts and do their own repairs, others take the used parts to their mechanic. Parts can also be shipped to some garages.

Vincent admits to be facing some stiff competition these days from companies selling new or used parts on the Internet. “But what do you do if a part you bought online doesn't work or doesn't fit?” asks Vincent. “Here, we exchange until it's right or give your money back.” Vincent was more evasive on what he pays to buy old cars and small trucks for scrap, saying it, “depends on market value.” The prices he gets paid per pound of steel can be fairly volatile. Vincent also offers towing service. “And I don't buy loose parts, only complete vehicles."

is mostly of North American manufacture with some European and a few Japanese cars. The age of most his scrap vehicles ranges from nearly-new to about 20 years old. “We prefer to call it auto recycling rather than a scrapyard,” adds Vincent.

"Ville St. Pierre is an easy drive from the West Island, LaSalle, Chateauguay, Verdun, and NDG," he notes..Despite being in business for 70 years, many motorists driving over the viaduct between St Pierre and Montreal West don't realize there is an auto recycler under the viaduct. Vincent's body shop offers insurance repairs and personalized repairs; they can spruce up a paint job or fully repair a collisioned car. A ramp service is also available.

Vincent is open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 12 noon. .Purchases can be made with cash, some credit cards, and with approved company cheques.

Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story, the show that inspired a generation of multi-million selling juke-box musicals including Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia, Million Dollar Quartet, and We Will Rock You, is back by popular demand! With more than 22 million music fans having lived the experience since it opened in London’s West End in 1989, Buddy speaks an international language, and continues to thrill rockin’ audiences from 8 to 80 the world over. Both publicly and critically acclaimed, Buddy tells the enduring tale of the musical icon’s meteoric rise to fame and his final legendary performance at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa, before his tragic and untimely death at the age of 22. In 18 short months, the Texasborn boy revolutionized the face of contemporary music influencing everyone from The Beatles to Bruce Springsteen. Boasting a phenomenally multi-talented cast, together they present two terrific hours of music with over 20 of his greatest hits, including the timeless classics That’ll Be the Day, Peggy Sue, Oh Boy and Rave On. With the

Big Bopper’s Chantilly Lace and Ritchie Valens’ La Bamba completing a stellar musical line-up, Buddy is a not to be missed evening of feel good family entertainment Buddy’s widow, Maria Elena Holly, says of the show: “When we opened the show we never imagined Buddy’s music and story would still be rocking stages and entertaining audiences around the world week-in week-out over 25 years later. I believe this is testament to a great show – the first of its kind – and to the enduring appeal of Buddy Holly and what he represents; a youthful energy, huge talent and creativity, combined with a determination to make a lasting impression in this world.” Writer/Producer Alan Janes says “Audiences dance in the aisles every night to our enactment of the story of a young man whose musical career spanned an all-too-brief period but whose music will be remembered forever”. Direct from London's West End and Broadway, the international hit show made its North American debut with an eight- week tour throughout Canada and the U.S. in 2015. The illustrious show that has been seen by over two million people worldwide introduces a brand new show for the 2017 touring season! Annerin Productions brings you the show that no one ever saw The Beatles perform. Relive the past from Ed Sullivan to Abbey Road, with favourite hits includ-

ing Hard Day's Night, Day Tripper, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Twist and Shout, Get Back, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Strawberry Fields, and imagine the reunion that never was. The end of The Beatles era was never thought to be in sight when The Beatles played their last show on the roof of the Apple Offices in 1969. Imagine what would have been if The Beatles continued their journey. Enter a time capsule and turn back in time to what would have been John Lennon’s 40th Birthday - October 9, 1980. For one night, the Fab Four come together again on stage, after a decade apart, performing other hits like Back in the USSR, Live and Let Die, Got to Get you into My Life, My Sweet Lord, Hey Jude, and many more hits never performed live, plus several other classics… Imagine a night that never happened, but which feels totally surreal! The original production which established itself as one of the West End’s most popular shows when it opened in 2012, and which recently celebrated its 1,000th performance, showcased the music of The Beatles from their humble beginnings in Liverpool’s Cavern Club, through the pinnacle of Beatlemania, to their later studio masterpieces.

KIDNAP - What a mother is capable of By: Sergio Martinez / mtltimes.ca

Things are always stressful for Karla McCoy (Halle Berry) who works as a waitress in a typical cheap restaurant where we see her at the beginning of the movie dealing with some very rude customers. She is also facing some custody problems with her former husband, about whom the movie doesn't give more details, other than he seems to have replaced her for a more educated woman. In any case, that particular situation is not particularly relevant to the story. 24

The lack of satisfaction she finds at her workplace is however amply compensated by the loving relationship she has with her 6-year-old son Frankie (Sage Correa). The next thing we see is Karla and Frankie going to an amusement park and having a great time. A call from her husband's lawyer, however, makes her to temporarily leave Frankie alone, with specific instructions to wait for her at that exact place.

written by Knate Gwaltney, is effective at pointing to the tragedy of the many children who are abducted in the U.S. every year. Halle Berry also delivers a passionate and emotional mother ready to do anything to get her son back, including to get involved in a car chase on a busy highway and then to confront the kidnappers with great courage. While spectators who are searching for high emotional moments would like a rather implausible succession of events, others would find it a little bit far-fetched and somehow predictable.

When she returns Frankie is not there, increasingly desperate she starts looking for him. The child has disappeared, although when walking near the parking lot she can see that Frankie is being taken by a woman to a car that would immediately leave. In her rush to get to the abductor of her child Karla falls and without her noticing it, loses her phone. She runs to her car and starts what would become a long persecution of the abductor's car in a way that is not exactly plausible but emotional enough to keep the audience alert for the rest of the movie.
