Pet of the week!

Meet Mingus the Cat'

M

eet Mingus, not your usual cat or one you might typically consider for 'Pet of the Week'. Mingus is a grey tabby, whose owner Gail Goldstein says is about 11 years old. She does not know his exact age as she adopted him from a friend over 8 years ago - who had first adopted from the SPCA on the day he was just about to be euthanized. "He was found on the street and brought to the SPCA. He must have belonged to someone as he is declawed in the front," said Gail. She feels he was probably abused when he was a kitten as he has a lot of fears. "He does not like loud noises, such as the sound of a hairdryer or a vacuum cleaner. If you shake a plastic bag in front of him, he immediately scampers away!" "He is not a very affectionate cat and does not like to be picked up or held, like some cats." Mingus also has a thyroid condition, so he is on special cat food. "He can hear a can of tuna being opened by the can opener a mile away! I give him the

tuna water from the can, not the tuna. He loves it!" But he does like being brushed and meows in conversation all day long and besides the fact Gail loves him I asked her why he should be considered as the Pet of the Week.

Her answer, "He is very handsome!" And I agree.

It was Montreal's sixth time in the finals since 2007, but they have lost their last two appearances. Perhaps this year, wearing the iconic 'C' on their team shirts and getting to sport the 'Bleu, Blanc, Rouge', their fortunes will change. Montreal's 'Pit-Bull Type' Ban

D

espite the controversy, despite the protests, despite the expert advice from veterinarians, despite the cry from lawyers and legal experts, despite the fact a majority of those polled were against it, despite the fact the Montreal SPCA said it may cancel services to 10 of the city’s 19 boroughs rather than euthanize healthy animals… and despite the outrage and tears of dog owners as they place muzzles on their beloved pets for the first time - Mayor Denis Coderre’s administration voted 37-23 in favor of the bylaw that outlaws the acquisition of any 'pit-bull type' dogs and puts strict regulations on current owners starting October 3rd. The Mayor insisted the bylaw was created 'to protect citizens from the type of attack that took the life of 55-year-old Christiane Vadnais' in her Pointe-aux-Trembles back yard last June. It was truly a horrible attack that killed her - and it was clear after previous attacks from pit-bulls and other 'pit-bull types' or other dog breeds for that matter - that action needed to be taken. Montreal city officials argued pit-bull type dogs were responsible for 38 per cent of dog bites reported to police in the last 18 months. “It’s a balanced law that protects the security of its citizens, and respects the rights of good owners of good dogs to keep their pets,” Coderre was quoted as saying. “I have a responsibility as the mayor of Montreal to protect all Montrealers and to ensure they feel secure.” However, many people are asking why the bylaw was 'bull-rammed' through by the Mayor and the council members that voted for it? Why did Équipe Coderre not even listen to people (experts included) who put forth other viable options at least worthy of further • October 1, 2016

for killing, it's in their DNA. Okay, they are mostly good dogs… but they can snap at any time, even if they have good owners." It's a good point, but surely there are better ways to do this. The Montreal SPCA maintains that 'there are proven ways to reduce the incidence and severity of dog bites and create 'safer and kinder communities' for all. If the city of Montreal truly wanted to ensure public safety, it would not have forced a rushed adoption of controversial legislation which is unfair, unenforceable and most importantly, ineffective. Under the new bylaw, all dog and even cat owners will have to obtain a license for their animals or face a minimum fine of $300. The fee is $10 for cats and $25 for dogs. Owners of pit-bulls or pit-bull mixes or any dog with similar physical characteristics have until December 31st to apply for

a special permit with the city or risk having their dog euthanized. (A calendar with the dates and locations where pit-bull type dogs can get the permit is at www.ville.montreal.qc.ca/animaux). The dogs must be sterilized, micro-chipped and vaccinated for rabies by March 1st 2017. In addition, all dogs, regardless of breed must be sterilized and microchipped by December 31st 2019. Pit-bull type dogs will have to wear a muzzle while out on the streets and their owners will have to provide proof they do not have a criminal record involving violence. But the bylaw still faces numerous obstacles. Constitutional lawyer Julius Grey said 'there are a number of

Montreal attorneys working together to fight the bylaw, who will file a motion to stop the bylaw within weeks on the basis that it is discretionary and is not consistent with city policy. It’s a terrible law.' But what is most disturbing are the owners and especially their children who play, adore and even sleep with their 'pitbull type' dogs, who are having to fit their 'best buddies' with muzzles right now and asking 'Why? What did my dog do wrong?' Mayor Coderre, how should they be answered? Please share your opinion with us! Is Canada Post still relevant?

ince colonial times the image of the postman delivering letters has been part of the landscape in this country following a tradition that goes back to times immemorial. In Canada's case, this was a tradition imported from Europe, when letters from

By Sergio Martinez mtltimes.ca

kings and other influential people were delivered by horsemen who, because of the long distances they had to run, changed horses at designated relay stations or "postas" as they were called in Latin. (That's the origin of the terms "post" and "postal" in all that refers to the delivery of letters). Systems for sending messages, however, were also present among other ancient peoples, in Asia as well as in the pre-Columbian

Americas (the Incas of what is now Peru, used an ingenious method based on knots on a set of strings, called kipus). The underlying idea in all these processes was to communicate, a basic human need. Canada Post has been providing mail service even before the country came into existence, but now it seems that the very raison d'être of this once revered institution is in question.Technology has a lot to do with the current discussion about its use: most people today communicate by email or by other messaging systems on the social networks. In fact, some even use the derogatory term "snail mail" when referring to letters sent by the traditional method as opposite to email. (Which is somehow unfair: within a city a regular letter takes two to three days to be delivered, a normal length of time considering the procedures involved: pick-up from the mailbox, transfer to a sorting station, sorting, pick-up by a carrier, and finally delivery by the carrier to a home address). The question of Canada Post relevance has been around for some time, last year the crown corporation announced that it would end home delivery

ness has been flourishing, indeed positioning Canada Post as the prime parcel deliverer in the country overtaking their main competitors in this field, American multinationals UPS and Federal Express. Parcel delivery contributed 63 million to Canada Post profits last year alone. The corporation is then in a healthy financial state. Under the current CEO Deepak Chopra, appointed by the Conservatives, himself a former member of a right-wing think tank, Canada Post already undertook measures that hurt some communities. Among them the closing of many postal outlets (the Victoria station in Westmount and the downtown Station A on Cathcart and University among others) while increasing the number of private outlets where employees are paid less because they are not covered by union contracts. Canada Post is also facing negotiations with its union concerning the pension plan for new employees (the corporation wants them to be subjected to a less generous plan) which, if not resolved, may trigger a postal strike, a situation that would hurt anyone. continued on Page 13

reveals the right-wing orientation of those who were on the task force: privatizing profitable publically-owned services is a typical example of pursuing short-term gains in exchange for long-term penury, since it would deprive Canada Post of some of its best sources of revenue, which in turn would make big profits for whatever private corporation that ends up controlling the privatized outlets. Reaffirming the ideological bias of the task force is the fact that the idea of supplementing Canada Post revenues with some kind of bank services as it is in Britain, got only a passing reference in the report, one may suspect that the panelists don't want competition for the big banks. However, there is a fundamental question still pending: does Canada Post need any of these measures that eventually would affect service to the public? According to the annual financial report of this crown corporation, total revenues for 2015 were over 8 billion, up from the 7.8 billion in 2014, in terms of profits they amounted to 99 million in 2015. Revenues and profits for Canada Post have consistently increased since 2014, and that's because despite a decline in letter delivery the parcel busi-

In 1928, Fred Trudeau, a building contractor, and resident of Outremont, bought land and commissioned Montreal architect René Charbonneau to design and build the Outremont Theatre. With its early Art Deco exterior and its rich interior, it is a fine example of a deluxe cinema in dating from the late 1920s. Some historians even considered it as one of the finest Art Deco creations in all of North America. Deluxe cinemas were medium size movie theatres designed to hold between 1000 and 2000 patrons. They had to be attractive and comfortable, reflecting the fact that by the late 1920s the cinema had become mainstream entertainment. Outremont Theatre's elaborate, dreamy interior décor was created by Emmanuel Briffa, a well-known theatre artist who lived in Outremont and was responsible for the interior decoration of more than 60 cinemas across Canada. Briffa covered the walls with pastoral scenes that stretched from floor to ceiling, and created a luminous coffered ceiling intended to reproduce the atmospheric quality of a sunny day.

Théâtre Outremont - 1929

On October 4, 1929, after a speech by Mayor Joseph Beaubien, and followed by some short films and stage numbers, the theatre officially opened to the public. In the 1970s, the theatre was bought by Roland Smith, a former cinema owner who administered and programmed the first repertory movie theatres established in Canada. The Outremont was the most determining in his long career which, from 1971 to 1987, offered movie lovers more than 500 different films each year. During the 1970s and 80s, the Outremont would also lend its stage to acts like Beau Dommage, Paul Piché, Richard Seguin, Félix Leclerc and Diane Dufresne, all the while hosting screenings on the side. Smith sold the property in 1987 to Famous Players, who sold it in turn to Baron Byng Construction who wanted to transform the building into a commercial building, but residents had become attached to their theatre and protested the transformation. In 1990 the theatre reopened for movies until 1993, when the City of Outremont decided to acquire and renovate the theatre. The Outremont reopened in 2001, and was run by the Spectra team with a very diversified programming ranging from film, to dance, comedy, musical and stage performances. In 2010, both theatre management and programming were then handed over to La Corporation du Théâtre Outremont. Today it serves as both a repertory movie theatre and a venue for large-scale performances. The Corporation’s mission is to advocate its citizens’ active involvement in cultural life, to heighten public awareness of artistic and aesthetic endeavors, and to bring about an appreciation and understanding of the arts and of culture. The Outremont Theatre was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1993 and a historical monument by the Ministry of Culture and Communications in 1994. Outremont Theatre is located at 1248 Bernard Avenue West, Montreal

I

turned on the TrumpHillary debate for just a couple of minutes, on Monday night, and I thought “Is this a re-run? Haven’t I seen this one already?”

By Dan Laxer mtltimes.ca

Okay, I’m kidding… but only a bit. I made a point of not watching the debate. In fact, I taunted my Facebook peeps and Twitter followers with it, got ‘em all riled up, too. But what got me is how many of them refused to believe that I wasn’t going to

watch. I mean, how could I not? This was perhaps the biggest television event in history! Part of the biggest and most important election campaign in history. And nothing will top it. Ever! I do believe that to be true. And it’s partially because of the prevalence and permanence of social media, as far as political campaigning is concerned. But didn’t television play the same role when Nixon and Kennedy went head to head, setting the standard for all political debates that followed? Nixon hated the experience so much that he refused to do it again in ’68 and ’72. He’d been sick, just out of hospital. He was unshaven, disheveled, noticeably sweaty. Politicians are notoriously meticulous about their public image. But that’s out the window, now. There was no hiding Hillary’s plight during the 9/11 memorial, a cell-

Frank Carnuccio, Realtor has contacts and helps clients achieve dreams

rank Carnuccio is one of the high performance real estate Brokers in Montreal, having dealt with over $500 million in real estate transactions during his career. Working out of the Sutton office in LaSalle, Carnuccio specializes in residential and revenue (rental) properties, mainly in Lachine and LaSalle. He brings a wealth of experience to his clients; he grew up in Lachine and now lives in LaSalle. Carnuccio has also been investing heavily into the real estate market himself for over 30 years. “I bought my first property at age 17,” says Carnuccio. “And I have purchased a lot of other properties since then.” Carnuccio, who has a reputation for putting in very long hours at the office, also has many contacts. “I have a large bank of potential buyers,” as he puts it. He also boasts an in depth knowledge of how financing works and can sometimes give clients tips on how to get their mortgage approved by a bank. Carnuccio talks about his work as “helping clients achieve their dreams of home owner-

ship.” The Times is hearing a lot about a minority of home sellers and home buyers who are dealing with each other directly, cutting the realtor out of the equation. We asked Carnuccio about this phenomenon. “You know, usually the buyer and seller do not agree on a price, but the realtor can help bring them together,” explains Carnuccio. “A good realtor proves his worth just by taking time to explain what real value is. Also by better exposing a house on the market to more potential buyers, the seller usually gets a better price. Or by helping the potential buyer to consider more properties, the buyer usually gets better value.” Carnuccio suggests that while some people have the fantasy that they can “eliminate the middleman,” in reality, few clients want to be bothered with all the paperwork. A good realtor can also provide a valuable second opinion on key questions and be available to deal with potential buyers when the homeowners are busy with other obligations. In

fact, Carnuccio claims that most of his business comes from referrals from satisfied customers. Among the advice that Carnuccio gives to firsttime home buyers is to stress the importance of location. “For a young couple with no kids, the presence of nearby schools and amenities might not seem important. At least not until they try to sell their home,” he points out. “As beautiful as a house might be, it’s the laws of supply and demand that dictate the price.” He says that the only way to realize how good a deal you achieved when you bought is to see what price you get when you eventually resell. Another pitfall that he warns against is sinking too much money into a property. “At the end of the day, you might only get three quarters on the dollar…” An expanded service that Carnuccio offers is advice on wealth management, specifically about how to make money on the housing market. He relates helping a young couple into the market 20 years ago; that couple

now have a portfolio worth $3 million. “My philosophy is similar to that of Warren Buffet’s towards stock (buying and keeping): buy in a good location, and then hold onto the property for the longterm.” It is obvious that Carnuccio has a longterm vision of the market Carnuccio admits that the local housing market is heading into an adjustment period after a five year run as a seller’s market. But he notes that home owners who want

www.mtltimes.ca

to sell one property and then buy another (i.e. down-sizers) might end up doing alright in such a buyer’s market. “And it’s always a good time to buy,” offers Carnuccio. “A common mistake is to try and gauge the market, but economists often are not sure what is going on! Whenever you are in the mood to buy, just buy.” He relates his own personal experience with a second home in Florida, grinning about how he

bought at the top of the market when the exchange rates were unfavourable. “If I were to sell today, I would lose money. But eventually the market will swing around. And it’s a good location right beside the ocean. In fact, I’ve been buying some other nearby properties there.” Frank Carnuccio Groupe Sutton 514.364.3315 fcarnuccio@sutton.com www.fcarnuccio.com

What’s Creating your Back Pain? Sponsored

To get the proper treatment for back pain, it’s important to find out just what’s causing the pain. The proper treatment can result in significant back pain reduction, so the more you know your back pain causes, the greater the chances your back pain treatment will work. When dealing with back problems it’s preferable to find a long-term solution that you can sustain without continued use of drugs. It’s impossible to name all the causes of back pain, but there are several that are common to many people. Low back pain is a common disorder affecting millions of individuals annually. It is a common musculoskeletal disorder that affects the lumbar segment of the spine, which is the lowest part of the back just above your buttocks. It is one of the most common causes of missing work, and can affect anyone of any age, race, or sex. It is one of the top 10 reasons patients seek care from a doctor. Low back pain is typically classified as either acute or chronic. Low back pain is often accompanied by stiffness and difficulty with normal movement, muscle spasms, and pain that becomes worse with any

type of straining. If it is particularly bad it may cause pain down the back of your leg, which is called sciatica. Chronic low-back pain is a very common problem. It is generally defined as pain that persists for more than three months. Chronic pain is much less common than acute pain. It usually has an insidious onset, occurring over a long period of time. It can also occur in people whose work involves heavy lifting, bending, and long periods of standing on a daily basis. It also may originate from an injury, disease or stresses on different structures of the body such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, degeneration of the discs between the vertebrae, or a spinal disc herniation, a vertebral fracture (caused by osteoporosis), or rarely, a tumor (including cancer) or infection. Chronic low back pain can be shooting, stabbing or localized in nature. It can also be referred from another part of the body. Acute pain is the most common type of back pain. The commonest reasons for acute lower back pain are damaged muscles, ligaments and tendons in the lower back.

Acute back pain can also be caused by kidney stones, pelvic inflammation and even some bowel conditions like constipation, inflammatory bowel disease or diverticulitis may have some back pain associated with it. Treatment Treatments for back pain can vary greatly depending on the type and source of the pain. Many sufferers find Osteopathy is a great help in reducing symptoms and have complete recovery. Osteopathy is an excellent for treating muscle spasms and the trigger points wich often found in back muscles. If Osteopathic doctor will have the knowledge to use Cold Laser and Naturopathy, your recovery will be much faster. To find out the causes of your pain and have the most accurate treatment some doctors have diagnostic tools wich give you the state of your health and printed report that you can take home. Tara Asfour: A woman fighting her way into a ring filled with men Sponsored

H

By Carlos Zappien mtltimes.ca

ere at Fitinyourdress.com and its parent company Purple Empower, Inc., we constantly talk about looking for inspirational stories about women who make their way into a male-dominated industry. We’ve seen that many times by incredibly driven and brave women who have broken the glass ceiling in the corporate world, politics and sports. We’ve seen amazing boxers and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters making it into UFC and show us every time what it really means to “punch like a girl”. Not that I would like to find out! But the sports business world, especially boxing and MMA, remains a tightly-knit men’s club. Enter Tara Asfour. Tara is a Montreal entrepreneur who owns a company called Bestia Gear. Their focus is fight gear for boxing and MMA. She started the company after she came back from a month of training in Thailand with only $90 in her checking account. She says “Thailand changed me, it showed me how attached we are here and I realized I didn’t want just to live to die so I started this business to not be held back”. And she hasn’t certainly been held back. With her business she sells gloves, wraps, pads, tshirt and a huge line of boxing and MMA equipment online and through a network of partnerships with gym coaches in Montreal and now she’s expanding to the rest of Canada and the USA. In 2015 she won the Great Young Entrepreneur Award by Fondation Montréal.

18

www.mtltimes.ca

She started training at Tristar, one of the most influential MMA gyms in North America and there she found her calling. She quickly made friends and fell in love with the lifestyle. To this day she continues to train at least twice a week. But her path to business hasn’t been easy. In a male dominated industry she explains her biggest challenge was to be taken seriously. She had to break barrier after barrier so that coaches and gym owners could trust her and her brand. Her main competitor is a big multi-million dollar company which sells gear almost 3-times as much as her gear. She says “but who can afford that equipment? Kids who are starting to train can’t afford $200 gloves, so I sell them for $80”. She explained to me

that one of her biggest challenges has been financing but she has refused to take on partners. Instead, Tara finances her company by working two additional jobs, one at a security company and another at Spa owned by her father. What would she tell to 10-year old Tara if she had the chance? “Be less naive. People can take advantage of your dreams and promise you what you want only to find out it wasn’t what you expected. If it’s too good to be true, it might be too good to be true” One final thought? “Remember you can’t control other people’s intentions, but stay positive and try to see the light”.

he Chicken Lady … Buddy Cole … “Daves That I Know” … “Thirty Helens Agree” … “Love and Sausages”. These are some of the best-known characters, sketches and songs that are mostly associated with the legendary Canadian sketch comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall. The Kids – Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson – made their mark in the world of comedy by first creating a cult following in the Queen Street West entertainment scene in Toronto during the early and mid-80s, and then through their weekly sketch comedy TV series, which ran on the CBC, HBO and CBS from 1989 to 1995. For Toronto-based writer John Semley, his fascination with the Kids in the Hall didn’t start when their show was first aired on the CBC. “I came to the Kids on a secondhand basis, when reruns of their show ran on the Comedy Network constantly. I would get home from school and constantly watch their show,” he said. “And the more I watched them, I kept getting more out of it, especially their anarchistic, satirical and cynical sense of humour. I always thought they held the keys to society, for which they had nothing but contempt for, and whoever and whatever they targeted with their comedy was always on point.” As Semley developed his career as a journalist, he made the Kids in the Hall one subject that he wrote about on a semi-regular basis, which culminated in an oral history of the group that he wrote and was published in an issue of the Toronto alternative weekly “Now Magazine” before the group embarked on a series of live stage shows in 2013, which ended up being one of the most-read stories for the publication that year. Semley expanded upon this article to produce a • October 1, 2016

book that offers the first – and definitive – history of the Kids in the Hall and what and why they have become such a widely influential part of contemporary comedy, which is called, quite succinctly, This is A Book About the Kids in the Hall. The book was launched in Montreal this past Thursday (September 22), with Semley and comic David Heti, at the Drawn and Quarterly bookstore in Outremont. The book thoroughly examines every aspect of the Kids in the Hall’s incredible career and legacy in comedy, from their separate origins in Toronto and Calgary, to the origins of some of their most popular characters and sketches (and even their catchy theme song and use of black & white filmed segments that were used to bridge each sketch), to the backstage battles and conflicts that would have permanently broken up any mortal comedy troupe, to their resurrection and attainment of their cult status thanks to their live stage show tours during the 2000s. What I found interesting about the story of the Kids in the Hall was how there were many parallels to Monty Python, the legendary British comedy group whom the Kids greatly admired, but whom were somewhat adamant they didn’t want to be compared to. “Although the Kids liked Python a lot and felt they were influenced by them, they never wanted to think that there totally influenced by the Monty Python formula,” he said. “However, one of the major differences between the two was the structure of their sketches. The Kids were conscious of the fact that a sketch had to have a beginning, middle and end, and Python’s sketches were more surreal in nature and sometimes would be interrupted right in the middle of a sketch and go into the next one.” Semley admits that he finds it a difficult task for

him to single out a certain Kids in the Hall sketch or routine as his all-time favorite (he recently had the envious task of choosing a selection of sketches for a video compilation that played at the book’s official launch in Toronto); however, he did manage to choose a first season sketch that he believes is one of the Kids’ all-time classics. “It’s the one that involves Kevin McDonald visiting a hotel where all the guests have different types of serious wounds, because they were all viciously attacked by ‘Skura’, a shark that lurks around the hotel,” he said. “I like it because it is so silly and goofy because of its surreal premise, of a shark that attacks these people, yet they just can’t hate that shark.” Semley believes that the Kids in the Hall’s legacy and influence as comedy cult figures will endure thanks to reruns of their TV show, plus their semiregular live show tours, which he is convinced is their ideal medium and the glue that keeps the five bound together more than 20 years after their TV show went of the air. “They have been a major influence with such sketch comedy groups as Picnicface and Key & Peele because the Kids in the Hall made sketch comedy an alternative and hip type of comedy, and proved that it’s a cool thing to be into comedy,” he said. “They’re like the grunge version of comedy troupes, where they can be relevant, but they’re still not above wearing campy wigs and dresses.” This is A Book About the Kids in the Hall is a book that fans of the troupe, whether you watched their TV show, caught one of their stage shows – and yes, even saw “Brain Candy” – will find as the authoritative story of how five diverse Canadian comedians joined forces to set the gold standard of what modern sketch comedy should be like.

The Stampede Skeptic Sponsored

I

By Heidi Shannon mtltimes.ca

guess you can say I’m hard headed, or maybe stubborn. Or perhaps this day after being at the Calgary Stampede day in day out I was just tired. Either way, in this particular case, I was just adamant that my point was going to get across no matter what. Hundreds of thousands of people come through this world renowned exhibition. You must have thick skin to do what I do and at this show even thicker! It was probably day 6 or 7 of the 11 day stretch. I was alone in the booth, morning shift. Just opened up and was having a nice cup of joe. I look up to see an older gentlemen walk into my booth, half in half out, look at my X Cream and announce aloud, “Well, this won’t work’. I was offended and a little hurt by this, but what does he know of my family business? Nothing, plus it’s morning and I’m not exactly Miss Sunshine so I respond curtly, “How would you know it won’t work if you don’t even give me a chance to explain my family business? We make it all ourselves, all by hand, from scratch. Canadian made. Full refund policy. By now, his two friends are halfway to the next booth so I’m expecting him to walk away. He replies "Guarantee eh? I live in Ontario.

Soooooo.” My response, “ I’m from Montreal. Sooooooo.” He looks up at me, “Really?’ I explain my whole family business, quickly, as I can tell he’s not patient. I explain my guarantee with my contact. He has a brochure in his hand already. He finally asks, “ How does the cream work because I’ve tried everything!!!” I know by his rude tone he wants out. I reply, “For you, I don’t suggest the cream as you have it in your head it will not work on your dry, itchy scalp.. ESP shampoo is the way to go. It’s half the price of the cream. It’s all you need in one bar and you’ll love it! Guaranteed!!!” I manage a smile. You have to understand this all went down within 5 minutes and at one point we were almost arguing because he is obviously frustrated with his psoriasis in his scalp and I’m adamant about helping him. In the end, after our back and forth, he bought the ESP. He promised me he would call. He promised if it didn’t help I would refund him. I made sure he would call me. This whole scenario may have been brief, but this man and his stubbornness stuck with me. For months I waited for him. I thought about this man regularly, wondering why he broke his promise. I need the feedback, good or bad.

Months went by. At least 4 or 5. One day the phone rings and thankfully I answer this call. Who is it? My Stampede man. I knew it was him right away and I scold,“I’ve been waiting for you. What took you so long?” He says, “I’m a busy guy and your bar lasts a while and I love it!!! It works! You were right. It’s all I need. I have no itching, no more scabs and I use it everywhere It has lasted me a long time and I want more. I want that Hair Rinse too you mentioned! Customer for life. I was so relieved when I got off the phone and felt a real sense of accomplishment. One stubborn man through thousands and thousands of people. One story that made the entire 10 day-14 hours shifts worth it. Even though I have many stampede customers, sometimes some people really stick with you. This guy did that. Casa Design Sponsored

fter two decades of placing customer needs at the forefront of my business, I've noticed time after time classic mistakes made by both home owners and contractors alike. My name is John Antonacci from Casa Design. I want to share with you my observations and suggestions that will make your kitchen and bathroom renovations a success. Over the next few weeks, I will be helping homeowners like yourself spot nightmare renovation warning signs before it's too late and what you should be looking for when heading into the kitchen and bathroom reno world. From professional advice to just basic know how's, you'll find that having expert advice goes a long way. Such as Project Management, sound advice, educating people on materials, proper function, personalized service, designer & contractors. You Get what You Pay For According to a financial post article, consumer spending for home renovation in Canada has steadily increased to reach a record 63.4 billion reported in 2013.

It's likely that some of that money was probably spent fixing the renovation mistakes made by contractors with minimal experience and poor work practices. If you think hiring a professional is expensive, then consider the high cost of not hiring one. Many homeowners try to save money by going with an inexpensive handyman and end up stuck with sloppy work that costs more money in the long run. While it's clear that no homeowner wants to spend more than necessary on renovations, how much is the right amount? At casa design, we suggest starting with some simple research and shopping around for prices. Renovation quotes will usually range from very high, to suspiciously low. Very low quotes that seem too good to be true probably are and indicate that a contractor probably doesn't have the required experience to quote properly for a job, or may take shortcuts that compromise safety and the finished product. Research does reveal that higher renovation quotes often reflect the superior skill level of a contractor who is in high

demand and has a reputation for quality work. Remodelling quotes in the middle range tend to show the average market price for a particular renovation project. As home owners, we all want to make sure that when we invest in our properties we don't end up braking the bank while breaking our heads. Having an expert work alongside you to reach your reno goals will avoid the DIY hassles and the re-do of inexperienced contractors-both costly, both frustrating. Our expert advice will make project management and designing the most efficient way to properly realize your reno project. I always want to make sure my clients appreciate the value of both the work being done and the honest professional advice given because we want your reno experience to be a great one. In this case it's not a simple quality vs quantity. Consider both quality and quantity because at Casa Design we proudly fabricate using Quebec made products. No Dream Is Too Big And No Budget Is Too Small.
