Facebook Wants Your Nude Pictures! By: Bonnie Wurst / mtltimes.ca

there was not any sort of consent to send the images or videos more broadly," she added. "One in five Australian women aged 18-45 and one in four Indigenous Australians are victims of that abuse." “It would be like sending yourself your image in email, but obviously this is a much safer, secure end-to-end way of sending the image without sending it through the ether. They’re not storing the image, they’re storing the link and using artificial intelligence and other photo-matching technologies.” Facebook is taking this seriously, and aware there are concerns about how safe your photo would be if you sent it in. They claim they 'won’t store the photos, but instead create a 'digital footprint' so that its image-matching technology can prevent any future uploading of a copy of the photograph' and that 'the images sent to their database won't be stored'. There are billions of users on Facebook, many who hide behind several fake profiles and who use them to harass and threaten people, or even stalk them. Users can report these people and they will investigate the complaint - blocking them from the social media platform. It doesn't always work, as these slinky people have learned slinky ways to work around it and often have mental health issues as well. It's a slippery slope. The real concern is, can one really trust and feel confident sending in nude photos of themselves to Facebook - for the purpose of protection from potential 'revenge porn'? With hackers reaching levels of sophistication that continue to rise how safe can it be? Would you send in a naked picture of yourself to Facebook, even if you were told it is for your safety?

Social media giant Facebook, would like you to voluntarily send them pictures of yourself - naked. This is no joke. At least 'down under' for now. An article on ABC News Online (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), said Facebook is working on a pilot program with the country’s 'Office of the eSafety Commissioner' - a government agency, concerning online safety. And apparently the United States, Britain and Canada are next on the list. The reason behind it is not what you might have first thought. They want to be able to stop the use of 'revenge porn', where for example, naked pictures you might have taken while in a relationship are then used to intimidate you after a messy breakup - all over social media. A document leaked to The Guardian newspaper, showed that this past January alone, there were well over 50,000 reports submitted by Facebook users of ‘revenge porn’ or what is called 'sextortion'. Not all cases were necessarily proven or could be - but the sheer number of reports is very disconcerting. Still, as a result of the investigations, they disabled over 14,000 accounts - with priority being given to 33 cases involving children. A 2016 study by Data & Society Revenge in the U.S., showed that '4% percent of internet users have fallen victim to 'revenge porn' - and 10% of women under 30 have had someone threaten to post explicit photos of them online against their will'. Australia's e-Safety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant was quoted as saying, 'victims of image-based abuse would be able to take action before photos were posted to Facebook, Instagram or Messenger'. "We see many scenarios where maybe photos or videos were taken consensually at one point, but

Uber Looks to the Sky - Plans Flying Taxis By: Bonnie Wurst / mtltimes.ca

It seems the roads are not enough for Uber. The controversial ride-hailing company announced on Wednesday November 8th, that it is partnering with NASA to help develop systems for their taxis - taxis that will fly high over congested city roads. Sounding like an idea which is something akin to the flying cars of the Jetson's - a popular space-age animated sitcom in the early 60's and mid-80's, they hope to begin test flights in 2020 (aiming to have its first passengers in various cities around the world by 2023) and have a fleet ready and over city skies by 2028. Sounds far-fetched? Well, it is not as farfetched as one might think. In October of 2016, www.mtltimes.ca

Uber released a document detailing its 'on demand aviation' plans called Uber Elevate. The project's goal; 'to make vertical take-off and landing vehicles, which will allow their flying cars to take off, land vertically and fly at a low altitudes'. 'Fast-forwarding to the future of on-demand, urban air transportation', the document begins and explains a 'Vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft will bring far-reaching changes to our cities and our lives - quicker daily commutes, less traffic congestion, and cleaner air around the world. Uber Elevate has already started exploring the barriers we’ll need to overcome to make this a reality'.

At the last Web Summit tech conference in Lisbon, Uber announced they signed a 'Space Act Agreement with NASA for the development of unmanned traffic management'. It is part of NASA's project towards figuring out how unmanned aerial systems (UAS) flying at a low altitude can operate safely in what they call Urban Air Mobility, such as drones - of which they have been working on with other companies. Jeff Holden, who is the Chief Product Officer at Uber, also said in a statement last Wednesday that 'UberAir will be performing far more flights on a daily basis than it has ever been done before. Doing this safely and efficiently is going to require a foundational change in airspace management technologies'. The project still has many hurdles to overcome before it becomes a reality, including certification, pilot training and air traffic management systems that will prevent collisions. Then there is the question of where the vehicles would land and take off from. Montreal would

12

have to develop more heliports on the rooftops of buildings and hospitals. There is also the question of public safety. We already live in fear of parts of our city's buildings and infrastructure falling from above. Would we have to add flying taxis to that list? This could be just a dream by Uber, who has been facing much negative attention with ongoing investigations of some of their drivers allegedly attacking passengers, as well as the sexual harassment of some of their employees - or it could prove to be the beginning of the end of the 4-wheeled rubber tire taxi. The Jetsons might have mastered the art of flying vehicles in their cartoon world and Star Trek's series and films have 'boldly gone where no taxis have gone before' - but can Uber do this in real-time? If you would like to read more about the project and its technical aspects, you can download the Uber document at:: https://www.uber.com/elevate.pdf

MONTREAL - West Island - Every month, thousands of homeowners are faced with the stressful dilemma of whether to buy first or sell first. You see, if you buy before selling, you could run the risk of owning two homes. Or, just as bad, if you sell first, you could end up homeless. It's what insiders in the industry call the Real Estate Catch 22, and it's an extremely anxious position to find yourself in. This financial and emotional tightrope is one you usually have to walk alone because most agents have no way of helping you with this predicament. Old Brewery Mission helps homeless vets By: John Symon / mtltimes.ca

On November 10, the Old Brewery Mission (OBM) announced a new pilot project specifically designed to help military veterans who find themselves homeless in Montreal. Fittingly, it was one day before Remembrance Day and the season’s first dusting of snow had just fallen. There are some 2,500 homeless veterans across Canada; in Montreal about 6 percent of our local homeless population is composed of veterans acwww.mtltimes.ca

cording to the OBM. This population often suffers from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) because of things they have seen or experienced in the line of duty. This puts them at a higher risk of suicide than the general population. Consequently, the OBM is implementing Quebec’s first pilot project to provide sustainable housing solutions and psychosocial support services specifically for the needs of former military personnel.

In the 1950s, the eight Benny broothers, sons of a Sainte-Mélanie farmer, became pioneers in raissing and selling broiler chicken in the Lanaudière area. After developing an exclusive chicken grilling technique, they decideed to go into the restaurant business, and they opened their first rotisserie in Joliette. During the 1960s and 1970s, the Benny brothers b launched more than 20 restaurants in major Québec citiies, leveraging their exceptioonal brand of know-how.. In 2006, the new Benny&Co. conncept was born. Jean Benny, son of the youngest of the eight fouunding brothers, wanted to rally all the members of the Benny faamily so they could cater to the needs of a modern clientele in seearch of good food, so that they t could ensure the continuity of thhe family business. In total, The Benny&Co banner now has a totaal of 44 locations across Québec, Benny&Co. each of which is operated by mem mbers of the Benny family.

These are fast-casuaal restaurants, with a 130-seat dining room and a relaxed atmoosphere. The concept offers several new elements, such as a drive-through, online ordering, a soup and salad bar, a beeer and wine counter and a children’s area. In 2013, Jean Bennyy’s sister Lucie, alongg with her husband Michel Bonin and theeir children, realized their project of opening a Vaaudreuil-Dorion llocation. I believe this is testament to a great show – the first of its kind – and to the enduring appeal of Buddy Holly and what he represents; a youthful energy, huge talent and creativity, combined with a determination to make a lasting impression in this world.” Writer/Producer Alan Janes says “Audiences dance in the aisles every night to our enactment of the story of a young man whose musical career spanned an all-too-brief period but whose music will be remembered forever”.
