Tremblant unveils six new ski trails

LIFE – Earlier this fall, Tremblant challenged its facebook followers to propose names for one if its new glades. Last weekend, those who made a suggestion or voted for the winning trail name got together to mount the sign on-site: Taïga. On this occasion, Station Mont Tremblant proudly presents the new trail names appear-

ing on this season’s trail map. Edge Extension ‒ An actual extension of the glade called Reaction, this new name came naturally, especially since it fits in well with the other Edge trail names.

LIFE

North Side Taïga ‒ Suggested by the public, this name refers to a coniferous forest and lichens found in a boreal zone. Les Vallons ‒ This name refers to the mountain’s actual topography, featuring rolling terrain. Dynagriffe ‒ Located between the Dynamite and La Griffe, this trail name is in fact a forged word that combines two parts into one. Archipel ‒ This North Side glade’s name offers a wink to its assorted islets of vegetation, reminiscent of a cluster of islands in an ocean archipelago.

LTE ‒ This trail is located under the Lowell Thomas Express lift, also known as the LTE. These new additions bring Tremblant’s total trail count to 102, and adding 90 acres to its skiable terrain. Find them easily on the new trail map where they appear in pink. About Tremblant Tremblant is a top four-season resort destination owing to its guest experience both on-mountain, and in its pedestrian village. Its views of the Laurentians, the diversity of its offer and highly acclaimed major events – of which IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant, 24h of Tremblant, Wanderlust and the Tremblant International Blues Festival – put it in eighth position among North American ski areas by Condé Nast Traveler readers in 2016, among the top 25 best ski villages in the world in 2014 according to National Geographic, in addition to being voted #1 Ski Resort in Eastern North America for a 19th year, by SKI Magazine readers. With your sweetheart, friends, family or group, Tremblant welcomes vacationers on direct flights from Toronto with Air Canada and Porter Airlines, to enjoy 1,900 lodging units fanned out across 13 hotel establishments, over 75 restaurants, boutiques and a Casino, all at nature’s doorstep.

Celebrate your family events!

Free Report Reveals How to Avoid Getting Stuck Owning Two Homes

October 10, 2018

MONTREAL - West Island - Every month, thousands of homeowners are faced with the stressful dilemma of whether to buy first or sell first. You see, if you buy before selling, you could run the risk of owning two homes. Or, just as bad, if you sell first, you could end up homeless. It's what insiders in the industry call the Real Estate Catch 22, and it's an extremely anxious position to find yourself in. This financial and emotional tightrope is one you usually have to walk alone because most agents have no way of helping you with this predicament. But one local realtor is using a unique Guaranteed Sale Program which solves this dilemma. This program guarantees the sale of your present home before you take possession of your new one. If your home doesn't sell in 120 days, they will buy it from you themselves for the previously agreed price ensuring that you never get caught in the Real Estate Catch 22. Before you hire any professional, you should research the market to find out who can do the best job for you. When interviewing agents, find out what kind of guarantee they are willing to give you with respect to the selling of your home. Unfortunately, you'll find that most agents simply cannot make such a guarantee. To help you learn more about this program and how it can make your move less stressful, a FREE special report has been prepared entitled "How to Avoid Getting Stuck with Two Homes". To order a FREE Special Report, visit www.WestislandGuaranteedSold.com or to hear a brief recorded message about how to order your FREE copy of this report call toll-free 1-800-727-7105 and enter 3005. Montreal Metro MR-63 arrives at Exporail

MONTREAL - In the vast Angus Pavilion of Exporail, the Canadian Railway Museum in Saint-Constant, Philippe Schnobb, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), and Daniel Laurendeau, Vice-president of Exporail, the Canadian Railway Museum, unveiled métro car 81-502 in Exporail’s impressive collection. “Today, we are very pleased to be celebrating the arrival of the Montréal métro’s inaugural car at Exporail, the Canadian Railway Museum. Thanks to the work of the STM’s employees, the car was refurbished to extend its life for the benefit of museum visitors in the years to come. Exporail is now the only place where you can see

a car from the first MR-63 train that travelled in the Montréal métro system,” said Mr. Schnobb. “We are so happy and proud to be welcoming the STM’s MR-63 car into our collection for the renewal of the permanent exhibition at Exporail, the Canadian Railway Museum. It will be an opportunity for people to learn more about the STM’s important contribution to rail heritage, including the only collection of former Montréal tramways, in the past, current and future development of Canadian society. This beautifully refurbished car will expand the experience between 21st Century visitors and 19th and 20th Century visionaries,” said Mr. Laurendeau. 9

MONTREAL

Since the last MR-63 train was removed from the system, on June 21, 2018, car 81-502 has been given a major facelift and returned to its original look. STM employees cleaned and sanded the entire car and repainted it the same colours that it was in 1966. The operator’s cab was also completely made over, and the threepronged poles installed in 2012 were replaced with the single poles previously used. This car has quite the history! It’s called the “inaugural car” because it hosted dignitaries during the unveiling of the first MR-63 cars in August 1965. It was then integrated into the Montréal métro system, which opened to the public on October 14, 1966, and it transported millions of people until it was retired, 52 years and approximately four million kilometers later. A remarkable addition for a new exhibitionThe inaugural car was handed over to the museum in exchange for a symbolic dollar, as the STM could not legally give 10

away one of its assets without any compensation in return. The addition of car 81-502 to the Canadian Railway Museum’s collection also coincides with a complete overhaul of the exhibition in the Grand Gallery of the Angus Pavilion. One of the star vehicles is tramway no. 274 from the Montreal Street Railway Company, carefully restored to its original 1892 look. Reduced admission fee for métro anniversary On Sunday, October 14, the 52nd anniversary of the inauguration of the Montréal métro, museum visitors will receive a 15% discount on the admission fee to Exporail upon presentation of an OPUS card. To find out more about Exporail, go to the Canadian Railway Museum website. Note that the MR-63 métro cars were replaced by the new AZUR cars. The other cars still in service are the MR-73s, introduced in 1976. www.mtltimes.ca

Legal marijuana is here – SQDC Cannabis stores By: Bonnie Wurst / mtltimes.ca

NEWS - The launch of legal recreational cannabis in Canada is here. In Quebec, at 10:00am Wednesday October 17th 2018, SQDC Cannabis stores will have officially opened across the province - as well as the online sales website (information will be found at the SAQ website at: www.saq.com or at https://infocannabis.saq.com/en ). But what does that mean for users or for that matter, non-users? There is still much confusion, with all the different rules from province to province - and even from city to city. Given some time, most of the questions and issues will be addressed, some bylaws will be chal-

www.mtltimes.ca

lenged in court, as everyone adjusts to the reality that

using cannabis is now a legal right in this country - as long as one is of legal age. There will be a 'honeymoon'

period of course. Some people are expected to light up in celebration and smoke themselves silly with abandon,

disregarding those around them. Others will show more restraint, responsibly using the product and showing re-

spect by making sure the pungent smoke stays far enough away from others.

NEWS

For now, here is what Montrealers should know SQDC STORES - OPEN 7 DAYS WEEK 10:00AM - 9:00PM: - 6872 St. Hubert Street - 970 Ste. Catherine Street West (Corner of Peel) - 9250 L'Acadie Boulevard - 830 Ste. Catherine Street East - *Note only opening sometime during the month of October. PRODUCT SALES AND PRICES: - Stores and online sales will offer dried cannabis (whole and ground), pre-rolled joints, oil and oral spray as well as THC and CBD gel capsules. Edibles won't be available as they aren't part of the federal government's initial legalization plan. - Detailed pricing has not yet been announced - but it is expected that many products will be available at $7.00 per gram. *Individuals are not allowed to have more than 150 grams in their homes. Sales will be restricted to 30 grams at a time. ONLINE SALES & DELIVERY: - The same delivery safeguards that now exist for online beverage alcohol sales will also apply to online cannabis sales and includes the following precautions: ID and age checks and the buyer’s signature on delivery, no packages left unattended at the door or delivered to a person other than the buyer. LEGAL AGE: - Right now in Quebec, one needs to be 18 years old, but the new CAQ government is promising to raise the age to 21. GROWING YOUR OWN CANNABIS: 14

October 17, 2018

- Quebecers will NOT be allowed to grow cannabis plants in their homes, even though the Federal Law allows Canadians to have up to four plants at home for personal use. It is expected to be challenged in court. WHERE CANNABIS CAN BE SMOKED (This is the most controversial and challenging area): - In general, smoking cannabis will be prohibited in the same locations as those set out by tobacco laws, as well as on University, CEGEP, Hospital and Schools grounds. But many cities and boroughs across the province have set their own bylaws, basically not allowing it anywhere in public, pretty much rendering the whole idea of legalization useless and possibly causing increased health problems by forcing users indoors. Even the new CAQ government wants to ban it everywhere in public. It is expected to be challenged in court. - Some Quebec landlords and condo owners have already banned smoking cannabis in their rental properties with many others planning plan to ban it inside their buildings as well. DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE: - There is no free ride here, be smart and act responsibly. - Close to 2,000 police officers in Montreal have been trained in Roadside Detection Tests - with 500 to 600 more expected to be trained. They will have the option of using a new drug testing device, although it still unclear on how practical it is and how it will be used. As Canada lights up, let's hope it is respected by all and used in a responsible manner.
