HALLOWEEN

A Halloween steeped in mystery with Montréal Ghosts HALLOWEEN– Montréal Ghosts invites you to discover a different Old Montréal in a strange atmosphere during its Halloween Special. From October 25 to 31 at 8:30 p.m., experience a unique evening by joining a Traditional Ghost Walk, a themed tour that delves into the city’s sinister past. During the 90-minute activity led by a professional actor and storyteller, participants listen to unsettling tales and legends inspired by real events. Unexplained phenomena, witchcraft, crimes, torture, outdoor locations where disturbing and significant events have taken place… it is an intriguing journey through the streets and alleys of historic Old Montréal! As emphasized by the producer of these activities at Guidatour, Angèle Vermette, Montréal Ghosts’ Halloween Special is not to be missed: « These are the busiest evenings of our season and since they fill up quickly, people need to reserve early! We expect hun-

dreds of participants, some of whom even come wearing a disguise, which contributes to the creation of a decidedly festive atmosphere », enthuses Mrs. Vermette. Reservations are mandatory as places are limited. Visit www.fantommontreal.com/en or call 514 844-4021 to reserve or for more information. Prices are $25 per adult, $21 per student, and $16 per child aged 12 to 17 (not recommended for younger children). Activities available year-round for private groups. Montréal Ghosts were created in 1999 and are presented by Guidatour, a well-known tour guide agency located in the heart of Old Montréal since 1985. Montréal Ghosts was the first company in the province of Quebec to develop the concept of evening street theatre using stories of ghosts of the past to entertain while highlighting a city’s historic events and characters. Free Report Reveals How to Avoid Getting Stuck Owning Two Homes

October 24, 2018

MONTREAL - West Island - Every month, thousands of homeowners are faced with the stressful dilemma of whether to buy first or sell first. You see, if you buy before selling, you could run the risk of owning two homes. Or, just as bad, if you sell first, you could end up homeless. It's what insiders in the industry call the Real Estate Catch 22, and it's an extremely anxious position to find yourself in. This financial and emotional tightrope is one you usually have to walk alone because most agents have no way of helping you with this predicament. But one local realtor is using a unique Guaranteed Sale Program which solves this dilemma. This program guarantees the sale of your present home before you take possession of your new one. If your home doesn't sell in 120 days, they will buy it from you themselves for the previously agreed price ensuring that you never get caught in the Real Estate Catch 22. Before you hire any professional, you should research the market to find out who can do the best job for you. When interviewing agents, find out what kind of guarantee they are willing to give you with respect to the selling of your home. Unfortunately, you'll find that most agents simply cannot make such a guarantee. To help you learn more about this program and how it can make your move less stressful, a FREE special report has been prepared entitled "How to Avoid Getting Stuck with Two Homes". To order a FREE Special Report, visit www.WestislandGuaranteedSold.com or to hear a brief recorded message about how to order your FREE copy of this report call toll-free 1-800-727-7105 and enter 3005. You can call any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Get your free special report NOW to find out how to guarantee the cash sale of your home. Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Borough Mayor Sue Montgomery this morning planted the first tree at the new Parc Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Arboretum

CDN / NDG Mayor Plants first tree after 2017 storm

MONTREAL - CDN / NDG Mayor Plants first tree after 2017 microburst storm – Côte-des-Neiges–NotreDame-de-Grâce Borough Mayor Sue Montgomery this morning planted the first tree at the new Parc NotreDame-de-Grâce Arboretum, a swamp white oak (Quercus bicolor ‘American dream’). The arboretum is designed to revitalize the park, which was devastated in August 2017. Indeed, in the span of a few minutes on August 22, 2017, a microburst struck the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce sector. Along its path, it laid waste to a large part of the southern end of Parc Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. Some 45 trees, mainly maples, were felled in the wake of the storm. Because the park’s landscape changed considerably due to this event, planting trees had become a priority.

www.mtltimes.ca

At the time, there were already plans to rebuild the paths around the Place de Vimy. This disaster thus provided an opportunity to use the ravaged space to create an arboretum. “Indeed, three Vimy oak trees will be planted alongside the three main paths leading to Place de Vimy in a deliberate nod to history. These oaks come from the acorns of oak trees taken from the battlefield at Vimy in 1917 and brought back to a farm in Ontario by a soldier,” said Mayor Montgomery. “Within a few days, some 81 new trees will be planted to lend renewed life and beauty to this park, which holds a special place in the hearts of many residents. This arboretum is being created to celebrate the neighbourhood’s arboreal heritage,” added Ms. Sue Montgomery. 9

NEWS

October 24, 2018

Montreal Drivers take note Highway 40 closed NEWS - The project office of the RĂŠseau express mĂŠtropolitain (REM) wishes to inform drivers of major work to be done on Highway 40 (A40), which will require the complete closure of a portion of the highway between the A13 (exit 60) and Saint-Jean Boulevard (exit 52) in both directions, including the service roads, from 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 3 to 5 a.m. on Monday, November 5 (closures of the service lane as of 3 p.m. Saturday). Local traffic for stores and businesses in the area around the highway will be allowed. The exit ramps from the A13 North and South to the A40 West will also be closed during this period. Given

10

the circumstances, traffic may be particularly difficult along this major thoroughfare, so drivers are strongly advised to use the A20 for east-west travel. It is also strongly encouraged to concentrate its car travel during the day of Saturday before 6 p.m. During this major weekend closure, every effort will be made to complete the work as soon as possible so that lanes may gradually be reopened. Up-to-date information on the progress of this major operation will be available via the REM Twitter account @REMgrandmtl.

Legal marijuana is here – SQDC Cannabis stores By: Catherine Maisonneuve / mtltimes.ca

FOOD - Now that the week is (finally) over, what better should all enjoy our “last terrace of the season” before way to start off your weekend than… going out for a it’s (really) too late. Places are limited as it only goes on decadent brunch? Montreal certainly doesn’t lack great for 4 days. restaurants that are serving fun and delicious brunch menus. To make your life easier, we compiled a list of Hottest brunch spots in Montreal. Enjoy your weekend! Fall rooftop brunch at Hotel William Gray (Note: this one is a “pop-up”, therefore if you are interested in trying the William Gray brunch on their heated rooftop, you only have THIS WEEKEND to do so: (October 27-October 28th.)) That being said, the brunch menu is healthy and light : fresh fruits, yogurt parfait, avo’ toast, and served in the perfect setting : outside, on the rooftop of the very chic William Gray Hotel. We

Kids fun and high technology at XVI XVI The new original concept of Restaurant Le XVI XVI that has been the talk of the town because of their robot bartender is serving brunch on Sundays. Both: “à la carte” menu and “breakfast buffet” are offered, while kids can play with the robot that is also serving… juices and smoothies for the occasion. The gigantic brunch buffet includes: home-made pastries, fresh fruit platters, oysters and meat stations. The “à la carte menu”, where you will find truffle scrambled eggs and orange-caramel French toast showcases what talented chef Joris Larigaldie can do in the kitchen. Boho chic and Bali vibes at Gypsy For those (like me!) who are craving smoothie bowls, good coffee and tropical vibes, you will be served at Gypsy Montreal, the sister property of the highly popular concept that was born in…. Bali. Created by Montreal-restaurateur Kevin Latrem who decided to live the dream and move to Bali, Gypsy Bali was, indeed, located on the other side of the globe, but always had Montreal roots. The chef, Robin Filteau-Boucher (Les Chefs!, Helena) who opened the Bali-concept with Latrem, is now in charge of the Montreal location. There, you will find a various selection of smoothie bowls, fresh-pressed juices and a (real) barista bar.

Brunching in style at Livia Matcha

No need to be a fan of Matcha to enjoy the new concept of those who brought us the high-quality sushi bar Ryu.

Livia Matcha, open 7 days/week, is serving top-quality coffee, tea and matcha in addition to a short breakfast/brunch menu. Think açai and pitaya bowls,

matcha waffles, parfaits and colourful salads. Their first

location just opened in Westmount but rumour has it

that they are opening a second location downtown Montreal next year.
