Pilates for men taught by men Sponsored

ff season Golf and Team Training / Pre - Post Rehabilitative Workouts seem to be the attraction at the new Mind Body fitness facility for men. Jim and Kyle also run classes of 5 for the general population who are looking for pain free effective workouts to improve the integrity of their posture and joints. Combined with state of the art equipment and choosing

quality over quantity, the integrity in the approach is seen and experienced right away! Highly trained instructors

Jim and Kyle carry out their mission in providing a barrier-free atmosphere for men to be guided through their own Pilates Workouts,

while breaking the stigma that Pilates is just for women. “You can see our guys are comfortable and are having fun “say Jim and Kyle at Pilates Fusion (men). “They really seem to appreciate the specialized space and not being limited anymore to just the gym". Our studio is valued by our clients as the perfect complement to their gym and physio visits. Here is what Pilates for men taught by men is good for: • Spinal conditions and injuries • Sport Specific cross training • Rehab and Pro Athletes • Tissue and joint care • Breath work specific to task • Postural conditioning • Core integrity • Restoration of Mind and Body • Movement impairment patterns • Arthritis pain management • Novice comfort-

able setting • Effective challenging workouts • Effective gentle pain free workouts • sharpening movement patterns and much more.Training benefits are highly versatile. Pilates has been proven to help increase sexual function. Jim was out spreading the word of their new Specialized Mind-Body Training facility for men that opened Sept 2016 and encountered a guy's comment that went like this" I bike in the summer I ski in the winter and I have sex 12 months out of the year!" Clearly this guy has a good balance going and Pilates helps us enjoy those earthly pleasures at levels of higher quality, duration and of course more long term. A man by the name of Joseph Pilates is the original founder of this exer-

cise approach. He was a very sick child and developed exercises to improve his immune function and it worked! Later in life he ended up in a British internment camp during WW1 and was able to help improve not only his own morale but the morale of both prisoners and guards. Pilates is valued as a form of exercise that helps with immune function and depression. In the therapy community it is understood and agreed that without the proper breath work no degree of therapy can really work long term. Pilates Fusion is known for its breath work and can help the client facilitate breath specific to the task and learn to do it mindfully, instead of with the anxiety of having to remember it.This all ties into the empowerment that takes over the mind and body and facilitates an overall well-being feeling and better immune function. Calming the central nervous system down and giving it clear concise signals is key. mercial van had stopped in the left lane, seemingly to leave me more than enough space to cross over. I waved my hand in appreciation and pulled left - just as he looked up from his cellphone, hit the gas while staring somewhere into oblivion and smashed right into the left front fender of my car. The damage was not major, but we held up traffic for an hour while filling out papers. Cyclists and pedestrians who talk and text might not seem as threatening - but they are just as guilty and just as vulnerable to the potential dangers. On March 3rd 2016, a

young man was killed after rear-ending a truck on Highway 13 in Laval. Coroner Michel Ferland’s report shows he was texting moments before the fatal accident and was instantly crushed to death when smashing into another truck which had stopped because of a stalled car ahead of it. His cellphone was found on the floor of the passenger side of the truck and a police investigation revealed he was on Facebook with his phone at 8:07 am, just five minutes before the time of the crash. And Ferland now wants the practice of

texting while driving banned outright under the Criminal Code. He is suggesting that texting and driving should be considered a crime, the same way driving while drunk is. Since 2012 there have been 60,000 tickets issued to drivers using their cellphones while they are driving. But the message is not getting through. There are still too many drivers who who use their cellphones while behind the wheel. Sometimes with deadly results.

11 Critical home inspection traps to be aware of weeks before listing your home for sale

MONTREAL - According to industry experts, there are over 33 physical problems that will come under scrutiny during a home inspection when your home is for sale. A new report has been prepared which identifies the eleven most common of these problems, and what you should know about them before you list your home for sale. Whether you own an old home or a brand new one, there are a number of things that can fall short of requirements during a home inspection. If not identified and dealt with, any of these 11 items could cost you dearly in terms of repair. That's why it's critical that you read this report before you list your home. If you wait until the building inspector flags these issues for you, you will almost certainly experience costly delays in the close of your home sale or, worse, turn

prospective buyers away altogether. In most cases, you can make a reasonable pre- inspection yourself if you know what you're looking for, and knowing what you're looking for can help you prevent little problems from growing into costly and unmanageable ones. To help home sellers deal with this issue before their homes are listed, a free report entitled "11 Things You Need to Know to Pass Your Home Inspection" has been compiled which explains the issues involved. o you find yourself wondering about the people of Montreal’s past as you explore our beautiful city? Montreal is built on a thick layer of diverse history: some of which is a little spooky; the rest may be a little risky. Few people know the history of the streets we frequent daily. However, the debut of the Red Light District tour hopes to change that. Donovan King and Haunted Montreal have designed a ghostly tour of Montreal’s Quartier des Spectacles combining the city’s rich history with Halloween haunts of the city’s past. The guided tours begin on Friday, October 14... See online for more: www.mtltimes.ca

The Couillard government is asking the federal government to examine the possible criminalization of using cellphones while driving. Heavier fines and harsher sanctions will be considered to deter offending drivers. Quebec transport minister Laurent Lessard is planning to discuss the subject with federal transport minister Marc Garneau - as the Criminal Code is Ottawa’s jurisdiction. There was also coroner Renee Roussel's report into the death of a pedestrian last November which recommended a complete ban on the use of cell phones while driving. She stated that 'while hands-free systems like Bluetooth makes cellular communications safer, they are still a distraction that can contribute to accidents'. Roussel also compared the use of cellular phones to drinking while driving and said strong measures are needed. She even suggested jamming cellphone signals in vehicles to disable them. But does that go too far? And should it not also include cyclists and pedestrians who engage in some of these dangerous actions as well - actions ranging from cyclists running red lights, hitting innocent pedestrians, ramming into cars or even into other cyclists? And they are often 'hit and runs'. Pedestrians, who are the most vulnerable being built of flesh and bones not metal - are crawling all over the place with their eyes glued to cellphone screens, only to jump back into the real world when a car veers • October 8, 2016

dangerously out of their lane to miss hitting them or screeches to a halt, honking their horn in panic. When it comes to a vehicle weighing several tons versus a 150 lb. pedestrian - the vehicle wins. As a driver with close to 40 years of experience, I am proud to say I am not guilty of texting while driving - I realized how dangerous it was from start. But I do talk on the phone using bluetooth technology, only making or answering important calls and I often try to pull over if it is possible. Otherwise I let voicemail do the job. But I will readily admit that just talking, hands-free, takes a significant portion of my focus off the road - a distraction of only seconds that can kill. As a pedestrian I have been guilty of texting while walking - but that ended the first time I walked face first into a pole. I now make a point of stopping and moving to the side of the sidewalk or sitting down if possible. As a cyclist, I cannot be held guilty of any of the above, as I haven't been on a bicycle in years. So what will it take? Do we have to wait until we injure someone or ourselves? Does it take killing someone first to make us come to our senses? For the most intelligent species on the planet we seem to be doing some very unintelligent things - literally becoming slaves to the very technology we created that is supposed to make our lives easier and better. But a complete ban or scrambling of our devices on the roads does not sound like the answer for

Photo: Bonnie Wurst

several reasons. First of all, a ban would not only be challenging to enforce, it would also have a very tough time passing into law, being very strongly opposed by users, to cellphone suppliers and service providers. Cellphones are a very practical and necessary way of communication into today's ever demanding world. They are also used in the case of accidents or emergencies when drivers or passengers need to call for help. Scrambling devices could cost people their lives, or they could miss an urgent call concerning their children or family members. There is also GPS technology guiding drivers to their destinations in the shortest way possible and in the case of Montreal, to avoid as much of the construction and detours literally plaguing the city. So what is the answer? We are the answer. We have to be the intelligent beings we are made out to be and use our cellular devices in a responsible way. We have to spend less time in the virtual world and more time in the real world. It will take very little time and effort to make things safe for us all. Or has our addiction to cellphones gone too far, to the point where there is no turning back? What do you think about all this? Do you have any practical solutions or ideas? Is banning cellphones or jamming signals in cars the answer? Should pedestrians and cyclists face stricter laws and and fines? THEN & NOW Royal Victoria Hospital

The Royal Victoria Hospital was established in 1893 through donations by two Scottish immigrants, Donald Smith, 1st Lord Strathcona, and his cousin George Stephen, 1st Lord Mount Stephen, who made their fortunes as businessmen, co-founding the Canadian Pacific Railway among other ventures. Dick Nieuwendyk

In 1887, they provided a joint gift of one million dollars for the construction of a free hospital in Montreal, to celebrate Queen Victoria's fiftieth year on the throne, and purchased a site on Mount Royal for a further $86,000, and donated it to the City of Montreal on one condition: that the site would be dedicated to "healing the sick without distinction of race or creed." The site they bought was the 10-acre Frothingham estate. (John Frothingham and William Workman established Canada's largest wholesale hardware business in 1836). Special

At the time of its opening in 1893, the Royal Victoria Hospital had 150 employees, including 14 medical doctors, and was considered the finest and best equipped in North America. From its early days, major contributions by prominent members of Montreal's English speaking community, and residents of the Golden Square Mile, brought the hospital global reputation for teaching, clinical care and pioneering research. They included James Ross, Richard Angus, Sir Vincent Meredith and Sir Montagu Allan. The location of the hospital was chosen because of its park setting and healthy air with the added benefit of a beautiful view of the St. Lawrence River and downtown Montreal. A number of expansions have made the Royal Victoria a prestigious medical complex. The original buildings were designed by the Scottish architect Henry Saxon Snell, whose plans for the Royal Vic were inspired by the Scottish baronial style of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Constructed of Montreal limestone, the original Royal Vic is distinguished by its crenelated structures and turrets framing large sun porches at the corners of its medical and surgical wards. In 1920, the hospital was affiliated with McGill University Faculty of Medicine and became a medical research institute. In 1929, Dr. Wilder Penfield established the Montreal Neurological Institute adjacent to the hospital. Among the list of medical achievements at the Royal Victoria was the first successful kidney transplant in the Commonwealth in 1958.

Today, together with the Montreal Children's Hospital, the Montreal Neurological Hospital, the Montreal General Hospital and the Montreal Chest Institute, the Royal Victoria Hospital is part of the McGill University Health Centre, located at the Glen site, 1001 Decarie Blvd.

My very first death threat Opinion

ast week I received what I considered to be a thinly-veiled threat on my life; my first death threat after over twenty years in broadcasting. It should have been a badge of honour. But I decided that it

F-word-laden post aimed at Americans and their sick thing with guns, and how they can’t seem to go one day without a gun death. There were those who agreed with me, and those who disagreed, including a man who, as it turns out, wasn’t even a Facebook friend. His initial reaction, on my Timeline, was a simple two-word response, one of them an Fword, followed by a private message: “I thought you were one of the best on CJAD,” he wrote, “but I see you are anti-gun. I've never shot anyone in 69 years, might change my mind about you” (punctuation added). You see, he’s Canadian. He wasn’t running to the deBy Dan Laxer fense of the Second Amendment. It all started with my death. “Might change my rather strong and emo- mind about you” simply tional reaction to yet an- meant that in his eyes I other shooting in the U.S., was no longer one of the this one in South Car- best on CJAD. He’d simply olina. It was an admittedly let bad syntax get the bet-

But there is a larger point to be made, here. It’s been my experience that gun nuts – sorry, gun enthusiasts – tend to be on the defensive, regardless of nationality. In the case of Canadian gun nuts—er, uh, enthusiasts, it’s almost as if the American adherence to socalled “Second Amendment Rights” have bled over the 49th parallel and seeped into the fabric of our otherwise peaceful

culture. So what if I am anti-gun? Why would my views elicit such an emotional reaction? Indeed, there was a time, perhaps when the Second Amendment was framed, when this type of disagreement might indeed have come to blows, and escalated into a gunfight. But here’s the thing – and this is what most American gun people forget – the Second Amendment was designed at a time when men were running around with muskets and blunderbusses, fighting for their newly-developed nation, defending their life, limb, and land from the likes of King

George and his goons. If they still want to play cowboys-and-injuns down south, that’s their business; I’ll let Trump and Hillary deal with that as they see fit. But here in Canada, despite the apparent border-busting nature of things like Facebook, we are free to espouse whatever position we choose, and ought to be able to hold those positions without fear of death,Voltaire be damned. It’s not a question of gun control, but impulse control. If you cannot be trusted with a laptop or an iPhone, then you really shouldn’t be around firearms.

and a Bear" is a captivating drama in which the fear of loneliness, the harshness of the land and the climate, and the toughness— but also the sensitivity— of the men and women living there are brought to the spectator in all their emotional force. It is almost like feeling the coldness of the snowy place, yet at the same time the warmth of the young couple's love. Roman (Dane DeHaan) and Lucy (Tatiana Maslany) are definitely in love; he does various chores, and she is a taxi driver. Roman has the strange ability to talk to a polar bear, or is it just his imagination? Both, Roman and Lucy have family issues which may have determined their ending up in the Arctic. They don't regret it, though: they have each other; and also the bear. What suddenly becomes a happy occasion for Lucy, however, would test their love to the extreme. They would eventually decide to go on a journey south through the snow, during which she would try to forget a terrifying memory of her past. The bear would also be there: is he a god? Maybe. The journey would also seal the lovers'

Cure aches and pains through osteopathy Sponsored

Imagine this. You work in the garden, bend to pick something and can’t unbend your back, your back is locked. Result – spasm in the back with excruciating pain. The same day, your friend bends down to lift up his heavy suitcase. Result—a sudden and searing backache. Or during the winter, you walk on icy road then slip and fall. Result—a sprain. What do you do with all those injuries? You apply some ointment on your sprain, your kid wraps his knee in a plaster, your friend, much to his chagrin, undergoes an operation, and you still have this pain from winter’s falling accident. But why not opt for some accurate methods of treatment that could cure much better? Such as osteopathy? Osteopathy is a technique that uses body massage and bone manipulation. Doctor of Osteopathy depends on palpatory diagnosis: the feel of the tissue, the feel of the muscle, the feel of movements at the intervertebral joint. X-rays cannot detect

minor spinal changes. So, once the defect is detected, manipulation techniques are done by positioning the patient in a specific manner. The patient begins to feel immediate relief. Doctor of Osteopathy in his clinic offers not just osteopathy but naturopathy and cold laser therapy wich works great to decrease the pain and inflammation much faster. Osteopathy offers a drug-free alternative to ailments such as migraines, spondylosis, shoulder pain, elbow pain, sprains and fractures, lower back pain, knee and heel pain. All these ailments occur mainly because we neglect our bodies. A bad posture accompanied by stress and tension gives rise to pain in the shoulder, the neck or the head, lower back or legs. Doctor of Osteopathy recognizes the structural abnormality of the spine and aims to normalize mechanical defects. What Techniques Osteopath Uses? In Osteopathy, manipulation is usually done in four ways. The di-

rect method involves applying gentle pressure directly on the spine. The second method is where the manipulation is done indirectly through levers formed by hands, shoulders, pelvis and legs. The patient is properly positioned and the osteopath manipulates in all directions. In the semi-indirect method, pressure is applied to the manipulated segment with the help of the hand, knee or the chest. Another method involves exerting constant pressure in the cranial region. Other manipulations Osteopaths can use, such as miofascia release, joint mobilization techniques, trigger points therapy, stretching techniques. Manipulations aim at removing disturbances within the nerves that stop proper circulation. Fore information please call: 514-244-0799 ADEX COMPLTE HEALTH 17555 Boul. Gouin,W room # 203 Pierrefonds

Hallie Gyles - A shy voice full of passion

Performing live at Honey Martin’s

I

By Carlos Zappien mtltimes.ca

f you've spent enough time in Montreal’s NDG you're probably familiar with one of the best Irish pubs in the city, quintessential Honey Martin’s, a true hub of artists, neighbours and breeding grounds of talented musicians who build their chops in a fertile atmosphere while having fun with patrons. It is here where Hallie Gyles has spent almost a decade behind the bar making good friends with clients as she remembers what you drink without hesitation, always accompanied with a huge smile and a warm welcome. A self-described shy person, she says she used to blush when she talked to her bank teller (hard to believe given her powerful charisma), Hallie is also one of the talented singers who frequently performs at the pub’s stage. It is also here where she has developed her style by working with the regular performers who oftentimes call each other last minute to gig or jump in to support. Originally from Winnipeg, Hallie grew up with her mom travelling through Asia and the USA, creating in her an introspection that becomes evident the moment she starts singing, as a world of feelings and emotions opens up before our eyes. The moment she starts to sing she transforms into a powerful yet vulnerable source of a torrent of breathy whispers which grow into a captivating full-coloured canvas of vocal textures.

Hallie Gyles

It is this unique style she calls “intuitive and passionate” that has made her a favourite of patrons and musicians alike. When she performs she says she has “electricity down the back of her neck” and that is evident and contagious when watching her do her magic. Over the years she has collaborated with very talented acts like Maybe Grey's and Provincial Lines. In 2015 she participated in recording a song called Centrifugal Force along with band The Fall Line which went on to earn third place in the Canada-wide CBC Searchlight competition. She says her biggest inspiration is her little sister but her mom remains a pillar in her life. What would you tell 10 year old Hallie? “People aren’t that scary” she said. Hallie is now venturing

into songwriting and is preparing an EP to be released this fall. She explains her songs are about love and relationships. What is love: “understanding, acceptance and care. In a broad sense, it is making someone family”, she said. One of the most powerful songs to be included in the album is called appropriately “Eleven Years” which describes with such clarity and gratefulness all the affection and disappointment after the end of her 11-year marriage, without hard feelings but with all the necessary perspective. Hallie performs on Wednesdays at Honey Martin’s and her new EP will be available this autumn. Read more about Hallie and listen to exclusive tracks at: fitinyourdress.com/HallieGyles

Quinta dos Roques and Maias, fine wines of Dão, Portugal

W

By Marco Giovanetti mtltimes.ca

ithout question, Quinta Dos Roques is now unquestionably one of the elite estates in the Dão. It is located in the small hamlet of Abrunhosa do Mato which is almost at the center of the wellknown wine centres of Mangulade and Nelas. Its origins go back to the 19th century but it is only in the last 15 years that this estate has shown its true colours. Luis Lourenço, a modest and elegant gentleman oversee the modern winery and pristine vineyards, while winemaking is in the hands of bright Jorge

48

Brites and famous Professor Virgilio Loureiro. The vineyards comprise 40 hectares, located across twelve different plots with a variety of meso climates and soils. Vineyards are batch-planted, with most new plantings being of Touriga Naçional, Tinto Cão and Encruzado. Quinta das Maias is the sister company of Quinta dos Roques. The Maias estate is at a high elevation which is one of the reasons the wines have an excellent freshness. Luis purchased this estate especially for the Jaen variety. This grape shine in the Dão region, where most of it is grown. The

vines are resistant to disease, and the grapes ripen early. At best it is a highly perfumed variety reminiscent of blackberry, blueberry and cherry. Despite a slightly rustic character, it can make early-drinking, soft, silky reds that are simple yet seductive. Recently Mr Lourenço was in Montreal for a trade tasting of his wines. The red wines are characterised by their depth of colour, purity of fruit, and above all, their exquisite balance and harmony. The whites are as well fresh and equlibrated displaying purity of fruit and the mineral characteristics of their terroir.

The SAQ list only two of their wines under the specialty section of their catalog. The rest can be obtained via private importation with their agent AOC ( www.vinsaoc.ca). Here are my tasting notes on the wines that you can find from Quinta dos Roques and Maias in the Quebec market. These wines pair well with different meat dishes such as stews or roast. If you are a vegetarian, these reds will go nice with hearty minestrone soups containing red kidney beans or lentils.

Marco Giovanetti is an Italian-Venezuelan sommelier student in the ITHQ of Montreal, Quebec. He has 15 years of experience tasting wine from Europe and emerging wine regions. Maias Tinto 2013 ( Private Import. $16.85. Case of 12)

On the nose, attractive notes of wild cherry, violets and roses. In addition, prunes and smoked peppers. A touch of wild rosemary and eucalyptus complement the bouquet. Full body with supple tannins and a polished mouthfeel. Very elegant with a gracious finale. 90\100.

Wine of the week: Poças Vale de Cavalos 2014

SAQ #12455184 $19.85 Poças Juniors house was founded nearly a century ago by Manuel Domingues Poças Júnior and it is one of the rare companies of Port Wine that was born Portuguese and still in same family ownership, being currently managed by family members of the 3rd and 4th generation. The Poças was always associated with Port Wine, but, since 1990, enlarged their portfolio to the DOC Douro wines, developing Coroa d’Ouro,Vale de Cavalos and Símbolo wines, becoming one of the first companies of Port Wine investing in the DOC Douro wines. On this wine, the nose is aromatic, intense and concentrated. It reveals aromas of plum, black fruit and slight nuances of licorice with a hint of coffee. The palate is fresh, fleshy, mineral, suave, fluid and elegant with a nice creamy matter and a beautiful and precise fruity expression. Tannins are fine and elegant with a finale that brings to mind blueberry and hazelnut.

Casa Design Sponsored

fter two decades of placing customer needs at the forefront of my business, I've noticed time after time classic mistakes made by both home owners and contractors alike. My name is John Antonacci from Casa Design. I want to share with you my observations and suggestions that will make your kitchen and bathroom renovations a success. Over the next few weeks, I will be helping homeowners like yourself spot nightmare renovation warning signs before it's too late and what you should be looking for when heading into the kitchen and bathroom reno world. From professional advice to just basic know how's, you'll find that having expert advice goes a long way. Such as Project Management, sound advice, educating people on materials, proper function, personalized service, designer & contractors. You Get what You Pay For According to a financial post article, consumer spending for home renovation in Canada has steadily increased to reach a record 63.4 billion reported in 2013.

It's likely that some of that money was probably spent fixing the renovation mistakes made by contractors with minimal experience and poor work practices. If you think hiring a professional is expensive, then consider the high cost of not hiring one. Many homeowners try to save money by going with an inexpensive handyman and end up stuck with sloppy work that costs more money in the long run. While it's clear that no homeowner wants to spend more than necessary on renovations, how much is the right amount? At casa design, we suggest starting with some simple research and shopping around for prices. Renovation quotes will usually range from very high, to suspiciously low. Very low quotes that seem too good to be true probably are and indicate that a contractor probably doesn't have the required experience to quote properly for a job, or may take shortcuts that compromise safety and the finished product. Research does reveal that higher renovation quotes often reflect the superior skill level of a contractor who is in high

demand and has a reputation for quality work. Remodelling quotes in the middle range tend to show the average market price for a particular renovation project. As home owners, we all want to make sure that when we invest in our properties we don't end up braking the bank while breaking our heads. Having an expert work alongside you to reach your reno goals will avoid the DIY hassles and the re-do of inexperienced contractors-both costly, both frustrating. Our expert advice will make project management and designing the most efficient way to properly realize your reno project. I always want to make sure my clients appreciate the value of both the work being done and the honest professional advice given because we want your reno experience to be a great one. In this case it's not a simple quality vs quantity. Consider both quality and quantity because at Casa Design we proudly fabricate using Quebec made products. Sheamu to the Foot Rescue Sponsored

W

By Martha Shannon mtltimes.ca

e at Earth to Body make our own natural skin care locally. We travel across Canada attending craft shows but also sell our products at our production/ shop here in Pointe Claire. Come visit us and see us create. We like to share interesting stories with you about customer encounters, testimonials, and our handmade natural skin care products. The following article refers to our famed Sheamu Butter. "I just wanted to take some time to thank you for helping to make my feet look normal again. I had an amazing experience with your sheamu butter product that I purchased at the Marshville Heritage Festival in Wainfleet earlier this month. I work on boats so my feet are constantly wet. My heels started to crack so bad that they were starting to open up. The day that I went to the Marshville Festival with my mom she actually had to bandage my feet because they were so bad that I had a limp when I walked. One of your staff was so wonderful and suggested we try the sheamu butter.

By day 2 of using it, I was already starting to notice it healing, and I didn't have to limp anymore. I use a little bit of this butter on the heels of my feet every day and the change is incredible how much it has helped. I have been suggesting this product to everyone I come across that has had the same problem as me. Big thank you to your team." K.S. Wainfleet, ON We thanked Kathleen for sharing her experience with us. You may also have ‘foot issues’ and can relate to her story. We have received many accolades on the Sheamu Butter for nourishing the skin. The feet are often one of the worst areas for dryness, skin cracks and irritations, and as we need them for mobility, this can be very debilitating. Unrefined Shea is very different from the white, odorless refined shea usually found on the commercial market. The ‘effective’ agents are also removed in the refining process so we prefer to use only unrefined shea. We import Fair trade certified and organically grown shea from a co-op in Burkina Faso in Africa where the natural shea butter is produced. Unrefined shea is off-white, has a characteristic nutty scent and maintains its moisturizing and nutritious healing properties on the skin. It can be used

all over the body! We have friends who actually work at the co-op and have met the many women who work there harvesting the shea butter. It is the Fédération NUNUNA. The unrefined emu in our ‘Sheamu’ butter allows for a deeper penetration into the skin, enhancing the properties of the shea itself. Without any added chemicals our product is pure nutrition and this is one of the reasons it works so well. Our Sheamu butter can be used body wide and testimonials prove it soothes itchiness and alleviates many chronic dry conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. It also makes a wonderful hair conditioner and scalp treatment. We certainly do know it has rescued many people’s feet. You will not be disappointed. Visit our online store: natural.ca. Commercial Leases for Tenants

commercial lease is a written agreement between a landlord and a business tenant. As the tenant, this legally binding contract permits you to use the commercial premises for your business activity for a determined period of time and in exchange you pay rent, which was previously agreed upon, to the landlord. Before signing a commercial lease, it is essential to investigate the property. You need to know all the parameters, so it is also crucial to understand what is included in your lease. Although all leases will differ from one another, there are common factors incorporated in all leases, covering subjects such as term, rent, repairs, type of business permitted to operate on the premises, etc. As rent is one of the most important factors when negotiating a commercial lease, there are different rent calculations to look over.A percentage rent lease entails that if you own a retail business, you might pay a base rent plus a percentage based on your sales. A gross rent lease means you pay a flat

requires that you pay some of the taxes plus the base rent. A net-net lease, also referred to as double net lease, entails you paying base rent, taxes and insurance costs to the landlord. And last but not the least, a triple net lease also called net net net lease, means that you pay base rent, taxes, and operating and maintenance costs. Another important factor of renting in general is the term of the lease. The term dictates the length of time you will occupy the premises. It can be either for a fixed term or a renewable period of time. It is possible that your lease be on a month to month basis as well. Look out for clauses such as automatic renewal and or clauses that require you provide your landlord with a written notice of non-renewal of term. Furthermore, as a tenant, it is critical that you register

your commercial lease at the Land Registry Office in order to safeguard your rights against third parties. In fact, failing to register your lease can result into your eviction by a subsequent acquirer of the property before the expiry of the term of the lease. These are some of the issues to be negotiated between the parties upon executing a commercial lease. It is essential to consult with legal counsel before signing a commercial lease to understand all of the implications and legal ramifications.

he Job trends recently have shown how important it is to be strong in math. In fact, Immigration USA gives priority as well as a higher salary to STEM (Science,Technology, Engineering, Mathematics fields) candidates when issuing H1B Visas. The specific fields that qualify can be found at http://www.myvisajobs.co m/document/stemlist.pdf. Therefore, more and more professional immigrants are being hired

Failing in math? Part I

in North America as opposed to those without any specialized skill. In an article previously written this year, I talked about learning difficulties faced by students today. The reformation of the school curriculum as well as the quality of teaching is two major reasons leading to unmotivated students in math. These, however, are extrinsic, incontrollable factors. Consequently, I would like to stress more on the intrinsic factors such that parents as well as students can do something to improve their math. 1. Evaluation - Math Scare

Index: (check off from 1 to 5 where 1 = strongly disagree and 5 = strongly

agree) Add your total score. If you have: 10 - 18: You are very confident and are at

top of the class. 27 – 34: You are not alone. Most students are like you. Work a little harder and you will pass. 35 – 42:You are not confident enough in math and you need extra help. 43 – 50: You must find a professional consultant and get immediate assistance. 2. After doing the evaluation to find out where your child ranks in terms of math, you must find out specifically what kind of problems they face. Below are several questions frequently asked by parents. a. How come my kids always get good marks on their homework but fail on their tests? To answer this problem, we have to find out whether they really understand the concept of homework exercises. When doing their homework many kids like to ask for the answer without wanting to

their homework, but critical thinking is much more important and valuable than getting the right answer. b. Does it help to buy exercise books for my child? Doing many exercises may help sometimes, but often kids just become robots, doing the same repetitive things without thinking. Some kids are even worse and memorize the answer key. Exercise books are mainly for more advanced students that want to do more challenging problems. c. How do I know if my child really understands the concept or simply pretends to understand? Whenever teachers ask students whether they understand or not, most respond with a ‘yes’. However, later on when teacher give a similar exercise using the same concept, most students

cannot answer. In a typical classroom setting, each teacher is assigned to teach so many students with differing IQ levels and understanding. It is therefore almost impossible for a teacher to diagnose the specific problems of every student. Luckily, many parents accompany their elementary kids with their homework to find out where the problem is precisely. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case for secondary kids. d. My kid has been failing math at a young age. What can I do? Failure is part of life’s experiences. Without experiencing failure, success is hard to come by. In this article (I), I offer an opportunity for parents to examine and to assess the problems faced by their kids. I will speak about ways for solving these problems in the next article.
