her story Rachel's passion for organ donor advocacy comes from the heart—her new heart. In 2007, Rachel learned that she had heart disease and that she would need a transplant. After that, Rachel's days were spent in and out of hospitals. In 2009, after waiting 14 months, she received her heart transplant gift. Her heart's desire is to honor the donor family by becoming a lifetime International Organ Donor Advocate. Today Rachel aspires to tell her story of hope to the Nations of the World. For many years she has been invited by various Churches and Women's Organizations to lead worship, sing, speak and or teach leadership workshops at their retreats/conferences. in 1996, Rachel Angela Moore was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy and received a Pacemaker DeďŹ brillator Implant. In 2004, after having three DeďŹ brillator Implants, she suddenly experienced Congestive Heart Failure. In 2007, she required open heart surgery to implant an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device), which acted as a mechanical heart with the hope that her heart would be able to heal. Nine months later, Rachel's doctors advised her that a heart transplant was her only hope for a second chance at life. For two years the LVAD kept her alive while she awaited a heart transplant Despite her struggles, Rachel remained positive and felt blessed to have such a strong group of supporters surrounding her. She remained on the Heart Transplant waiting list for 14 months before receiving her lifesaving gift in 2009. Rachel is no longer disabled and is enjoying her second chance at life.

D ONOR S SAV E L I V E S Living organ donation and transplantation was developed as a direct result of the critical shortage of deceased donors. Living donation is an opportunity to save a life while you are still living. Living donation is not covered by your donor registration and must be considered personally and discussed directly with a transplant center. Today, one in four living donors are not biologically related to the recipient.
