As ever, you’ll find local news and school updates, and fabulous ideas in our What’s on When pages to plan in winter activities to help brighten up the week. And what about planning this year’s birthday party? Don’t fancy the mess at home? Then turn to the Party Ideas section, highlighting brilliant entertainment and venues for kids, so you can plan a stress-free celebration that you can enjoy too!
We’ll be back again in March, anticipating the warmer, longer Spring days and featuring lots of exciting Easter news and events. In the meantime, we wish you a happy and relaxing half term break.

THE ABBEY JUNIOR SCHOOL BECOMES AUTHORISED TO DELIVER THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE’S PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME
The Abbey Junior School, Reading, has become the first 3-11 girls’ school in the UK to be authorised to deliver the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Programme (PYP). The PYP is the outstanding curriculum for primary-aged students, helping young people solve tomorrow’s problems. What makes it special is that students are taught how to think and how to connect subjects, rather than memorising stale content in fixed channels. Students are inquirers and investigators, led by their own curiosity to pursue meaningful questions relating to the world in which they grow. The PYP, with its focus on holistic learning, challenge and presentation, is the best way to help girls cement and develop the skills they need for their own futures and to help drive social progress for all. ST GEORGE’S SCHOOL WINDSOR CASTLE RECEIVES GLOWING REVIEWS
St George’s School Windsor Castle has become the first co-ed prep school in the Royal Borough to feature in The Good Schools Guide. The Guide, which prides itself on offering impartial and candid advice to parents across the UK, offers a comprehensive insight into the school’s Pre-Prep, Prep and Senior-Prep experience for children aged 3-13. Summarising their findings, the reviewer concludes: “Families who want a liberal, outward-looking education delivered by bright-eyed teachers in a small and nurturing urban haven (plus castle) may find their child’s happy ever after here.”
This positive endorsement echoes that of other independent school reviews, with Tatler describing St George’s in their 2023 Schools Guide as a school which “seamlessly blends the modern with the traditional” and Muddy Stilettos noting that “St George’s is leading the charge in educational reform as the UK’s first IB prep.”
“it’s a school with academic rigour, royal links and a place where kindness is king,” the latter then adds. Links to all the reviews, along with details of the school’s upcoming Open Mornings, can be found on the website. W: stgwindsor.org

generally acknowledged that independent schools offer a far greater range of non-academic activities such as rowing, horse riding and yoga, alongside opportunities to further your child’s education with trips and overseas travel. Class sizes are usually much smaller, which means pupils receive closer attention from the teachers. If your child has a particular interest in certain subjects or areas such as sport, music, drama or art, they can find support and stretch their needs to reach their full potential and the resources needed to nurture such talent.”
