The Eco-Schools Committee gets busy to renew Green Flag Award
The Eco-Schools Committee at Luckley House have been busy focusing on the Global Citizen, Marine and Biodiversity topics to renew their Green Flag award. Having organised a non-uniform day for Just One Tree, RSPB Birdwatch, a visit to the local refill eco-shop, a talk by an alumni ecologist and school participation in the Big Plastic Count, their attention has now turned to creating an exciting new eco-garden. Pupils were invited to enter a competition to design the garden. Elements from all the entries will be included, such as a pond, seating, wildflower areas and raised beds for vegetables and flowers. “We wanted to create an area of the school where pupils could relax and foster an enjoyment of nature, as well as be useful educationally to subjects such as Biology, Geography and Art,” said Katie Clutterbuck, Eco-Schools Lead. “The pupils can’t wait to start planting and encouraging wildlife in!” W: www.luckleyhouseschool.org

Dolphin School explores inter-generational understanding through the arts
Dolphin School’s Drama and Music departments have teamed up for their latest exciting and ambitious extra-curricular project: ‘Time Bandits’! Each week, their Heads of Music and Drama are taking a group of students from Years 7 & 8 to the Henley Manor Care Home to collaborate on a variety of Arts projects with some of the elderly residents living with dementia. The aim is to explore and develop inter-generational relationships and understanding between young people and the elderly through the Arts – a small and important step towards developing a dementia friendly generation. It will give students in their top two years a wonderful opportunity to express themselves artistically, enhance their communicative and collaborative skills, whilst giving back to the wider community. This initiative will enable younger and older people to come together as equal partners, with a common purpose, culminating in a documentary style film of the project. Dr Isabelle Latham, who holds a PhD in Dementia Care, will be advising and carrying out further research based on the project.
