Foster with Brighter Futures for Children
If you’re looking to do something new and enriching, become a foster carer in Reading and make a lasting difference to a child’s life. If you can’t foster, can you spread the word to help find more local foster carers? We know that not everyone can foster, but you can still help by talking about it among your networks. Ultimately, the more families they can find in Reading, the fewer children will have to be placed outside of Reading and away from their own networks. Brighter Futures for Children has joined together with 19 other local authorities to create the country’s largest local authority fostering partnership to help grow their foster family so they can give children and young people in care a loving home in their local area. Reading Family Aid’s Toys and Teens Appeal is BACK for 2024!
Reading Family Aid is a local charity supporting disadvantaged children and their families. Each Christmas, the Toys and Teens Appeal helps guarantee that children, who would otherwise not receive a single present, have something to open on Christmas morning. The Reading area seems so prosperous that many people might find it hard to imagine there are desperately deprived families there, but the cost-of-living crisis continues to hit families hard in so many ways and your support makes a real difference to every family. Last year, over 2,500 children received a gift at Christmas, thanks to the generosity of wonderful donors and supporters, but they need your help again this year and there are two ways you can do that:
1. Donate toys at one of the donation points (or they will collect)
2. Donate money to the appeal, to go towards additional toys
For details of how to donate toys, please visit: www.readingfamilyaid.org
To donate money, visit the LocalGiving page: https://localgiving.org/charity/readingfamilyaid
Please help to make this Christmas extra special for children and families who deserve it. Thank you!

Keep Reading children & young people local
We care about keeping children and young people who come into care, almost always through no fault of their own, connected to their roots in Reading.
It’s so important to stay close to friends, wider family and school when your home life gets disrupted.
If you could offer a child or young person a stable, loving home, you offer them the chance of a brighter future.
We provide full training and support with generous rewards, to help you become a foster carer. We’re Reading’s only not-for-profit independent fostering agency, working on behalf of Reading Borough Council to find local homes for children and young people in care.
Our SCHOOLS
Read on for updates from some of our local schools. It’s the time of year to be thinking about school applications for September 2025, so look out for dates of Open Days too so that you can arrange a visit.

St George’s Kindergarten transformed to further benefit children
Kindergarten at St George’s School Windsor Castle underwent a significant transformation over the summer, with an entirely new look unveiled at the start of the academic year. After first combining two rooms into one extensive, light and airy space, calming neutral colours and natural materials were combined to create a stimulating learning environment for free-flow exploration and discovery. Aligned to the central principles of the school’s International Baccalaureate curriculum, the design encourages children to nurture their own curiosity and develop agency over their learning. By bringing elements of the outdoors in, including a large indoor sandpit, the space also caters for a range of individual learning styles and interests. In addition to their bespoke new space, Kindergarten children at St George’s benefit from access to the school’s wider facilities. This includes highly qualified specialist teaching in French, music, digital learning, PE and swimming in the school’s indoor pool, as well as nature walks in the private grounds of Windsor Castle.
