With Autumn Term brings new beginnings, and school is in session! Now we’ve got a bit of routine back in our lives, we’re looking forward to a season of celebration, with Half Term, Halloween and Christmas to come.

We’re also joining the city in illuminating for the free River of Light trail, a must-see event that families look forward to every year.

Whatever their interests, kids are bound to find something they love at Liverpool ONE. The jewel in our crown is our huge entertainment venue, Gravity MAX, which sits on the top of Liverpool ONE and boasts two floors of activities, including crazy golf, VR simulators and e-kart tracks. This is one to keep in your pocket for birthdays or half term – keep an eye on our website for offers.

It doesn’t have to be all competition, though! The Upside Down House on Thomas Steers Way has kept families entertained all summer, with some magical memories made. This has to be seen to be believed, with rooms quite literally upside down for some hilarious selfie moments.

That’s hungry work – The Terrace on the top of Liverpool ONE has brands galore that kids will love, from YO! to Smoke & Dough, GBK to Pizza Express.

The Halloween Street Party returns to Liverpool ONE this Half Term. On Sunday 27 October, enjoy a free party full of spooky fun street performances and ghoulish characters. Plus, enter our fancy dress competition, where children of all ages can join in to see who can scare the judges the most!

All that fun just builds us up for the big one – Christmas will be here before you know it, and we’re making it magical for 2024. Stay tuned for more details about our plans, which will feature elves, characters and special performances to set up the festivities.

The kids might already have one eye on their Christmas List – explore some great value shops at Liverpool ONE, from cute trinkets and stationery bits at Kenji, to big names at The Entertainer, quality toys at John Lewis & Partners and fun for hours at LEGO.

For families who have additional accessibility needs, new to Liverpool ONE is our pilot scheme with Waymap and Sociability apps, with each app providing an extra level of information and support when a little more planning is required in advance of a day out. Download both apps today and find out how they can enhance your journey as we endeavour to be a welcoming space for all families.

It ’s not too late to protect your child from flu

Flu can be a very unpleasant illness and cases increase in December and January. You can still get your child vaccinated. For most children, the vaccine is given as a nasal spray. It is quick, effective and painless. The vaccine has been used for over ten years in schools and GP practices in the UK where millions of children have been vaccinated.

The nasal spray vaccine contains a highly processed form of porcine gelatine. If this is not acceptable, please ask for the injectable alternative. W: www.nhs.uk/child-flu

Kids Chocolate Crafting Parties

Beautiful wooden toys to inspire

Imagination Toys was born out of a simple observation: the magic that unfolds when children play with beautiful, quality wooden toys. Watching their own children blossom through imaginative play with these timeless treasures sparked a passion that led the creators to Imagination Toys. They believe that play is more than just fun; it’s the foundation for a child’s development. Unlike their plastic counterparts, wooden toys don’t limit a child’s imagination with pre-defined features or TV/movie tie-ins. Instead, they act as blank canvases, igniting creativity and encouraging open-ended play. Visit www.imaginationtoys.co.uk to discover the wonder of wooden toys. The parties blend creativity, indulgence, and gentle education for a truly unforgettable experience. With over 15 years of delivering high-end, engaging events, a birthday party with Cheshire Chocolate Studio is sure to be a hit! W: www.cheshirechocolatestudio.co.uk

Autumn half term in North and Mid Wales

From exciting family trails to harvest celebrations and woodland play areas; there are a whole host of family adventures to be had at the places cared for by National Trust Cymru this October half term.

Plas Newydd House and Garden, Anglesey

Autumn is a wonderful time to visit Plas Newydd House and Garden, where there’s plenty to keep families entertained whatever the weather. Splash in muddy puddles, run on the grass and crunch through golden leaves as you make your way to Dairy Wood. You never know, a red squirrel might even cross your path along the way! Explore the play area, make a pie in the mud kitchen and be a performer on the wooden drums.

Adventure to the West Indies area of the 40-acre garden where you’ll find the stunning Japanese maples. Climb up high to the treehouse – what can you see from the top?

Make time during your visit to explore the Grade-I listed 16th century house. Look out of the windows and admire the vibrant colours of the garden outside and the spectacular views of the Menai Strait and Eryri (Snowdonia) beyond. Put pencil to paper and get creative by writing a poem or sketching a picture. Make yourself at home and get comfy in The Octagon room where you will find a variety of board games to enjoy with friends and family. Finish your day by treating yourself to a delicious hot chocolate and some warm wedges from the Old Dairy Café. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wales/plas-newydd-house-and-garden

Powis Castle and Garden, Welshpool

This half term, gather the family and adventure along the Halloweeninspired pumpkin trail. Fearful of Halloween, 60 terrified pumpkins have hidden themselves around the garden. Follow the step-free route and see how many of them you can find. Keep a look out for wildlife, including squirrels collecting nuts and birds of prey soaring above as you go. The trail continues inside the medieval castle, where there’s plenty of crocheted pumpkins on show for you to spot. Then get comfy and snuggle up for some spooky storytelling sessions in the castle’s Bird Room. Suitable for all, the sessions will take place throughout October half term, and no pre-booking is required. Take time to admire the spectacular autumn colour on show as the garden puts on its fabulous seasonal display. Explore the Italianate terraces, orangery, formal garden and woodlands.

The acer trees are the real crowd pleaser in autumn, showing breathtaking shades of bright red, rich crimson, fiery orange and buttery yellow. Standing proud on the bank adjacent to the Great Lawn, this beautiful firework-like display is a must see, and the perfect backdrop for a family photo. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wales/powis-castle-and-garden

Penrhyn Castle and Garden, Bangor

Enjoy the perfect autumn adventure this half term at Penrhyn Castle. Join the scarecrows for some October harvest fun as the pumpkins arrive in time to celebrate Halloween and the Virginia Creeper on the castle walls turns a beautiful deep crimson.

The end of October marks ‘Noswyl Calan Gaeaf’, which is a traditional Welsh harvest festival during which many traditions were observed, rituals practised and crops gathered. Discover the mud kitchen, scoop up some fallen leaves and prepare your very own harvest feast using natural materials.

Afterwards, let off some steam in one of Penrhyn Castle’s two play areas. Climb, swing and see-saw at Rock Wood, or hide, sit quietly and take in the sounds and sights of wildlife all around at Cwt Ogwen. No visit would be complete without exploring the early 19th century castle itself with its formidable architecture, opulent interiors and fine art collection. Discover the ‘Ailfframio’ exhibition in the Grand Hall before it closes for winter and take a closer look at the Penrhyn Quarry painting or visit the brand-new conservation studio. End the perfect day out with a delicious and warming hot chocolate and a tasty scone in the café.

www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wales/penrhyn-castle-and-garden

• Activities are free and begin on 26 October unless otherwise stated, but normal admission prices apply (National Trust members free). For more information, or to plan your visit, head to the website.
