Are your children’s vaccinations up to date?
You can look at your child‘s personal child health record ‘Red Book’ to check their routine vaccinations are up to date. If you are still unsure, speak to your GP surgery.
If you’re not vaccinated, you’re not protected.Childhood diseases such as measles and whooping cough (pertussis) are on the rise in your area. If your child hasn’t had the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccination they are at risk. Measles can be a very serious disease and one in five children who catch it need a hospital visit. Two doses of MMR vaccine are needed to get the best protection.
Whooping cough can cause long bouts of coughing and choking making it hard to breathe. It can last for up to ten weeks. In babies it is very serious and can kill. The whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine is included in routine childhood vaccinations. If your child is due to be vaccinated or has missed any vaccines, you can book an appointment at your GP surgery. At the appointment the surgery will check that your child is up to date with all their routine vaccinations.
Childhood vaccinations are free. Find out more at www.nhs.uk/childhoodvaccinations
