Guest Speakers Kiersten Hathcock Eleven years ago, a 34-year-old ex-TV network executive & mom of two unexpectedly went from corporate to carpentry. Without woodworking experience, funding, or furniture design know-how, Kiersten Hathcock built an internationally known kids’ furniture brand called Mod Mom Furniture out of their 300 square foot garage in Burbank, California. For four years—while covered in sawdust and sweat—she built close to 400 toy boxes and play table sets before partnering with several Americanmade manufacturers and eventually signing a North American licensing deal with a Colorado-based furniture company. In 2011, Kiersten braved ABC’s Shark Tank and convinced two Sharks to invest in her company. Mod Mom Furniture has not only been featured in magazines, TV shows, and modern design books, but is being purchased by families, celebrities, and interior designers from around the globe. Kiersten is a Tedx speaker and professional keynote who talks about entrepreneurship, trusting your intuition, healing from childhood abuse, and becoming the carpenter of your own life. She resides in Flagstaff, AZ with her husband and two children.
Steve Reese Phoenix Suns’ chief information officer, Steve Reese, shares his journey from childhood hardship to sports industry IT leader. Learn how he found his significance, and how he balances work, play, and a passion for helping others. Steve will share his unique story about overcoming adversity and rising to a senior executive position in multiple professional sports organizations.
Shelly Ehler Shelly Ehler is an inspiring entrepreneur who took a simple idea, believed it with all her heart and made it come to life! She is the inventor of the ShowNo towel and was featured on ABC’s Emmy nominated reality show, Shark Tank. Shelly had three “Sharks” fighting over her and is the only entrepreneur in the show’s history to ever leave with a check in her hand. Her towel has also been featured on The Today Show, The View and Good Morning America. Shelly’s story of overcoming challenges and following the voice of her heart is truly inspiring. Her motto is, “Dream it, Believe it, Let it Go.” She believes anything is possible when you follow your heart in faith. She is a wife and mother of two young boys and lives in Ventura County, California.

Surviving Shark Tank: Keynote Speaker Kiersten Hathcock In order to make all high school students aware of the Moonshot Innovators Camp, Kiersten Hathcock (SHARK TANK winner) is available to come into your school as a keynote speaker to talk about entrepreneurship, her journey on the TV show, SHARK TANK, and what she wishes someone had told her when she was in high school about trusting your gut. She recently delivered an hour-long talk to 400 Chehalis, Washington high school juniors and received rave reviews. “Very inspirational! Thank you for sharing your story. My students were impressed and learned some valuable lessons.” — Kris Jolma, Operations Manager/P2P, Company Mentor for Business Week, Centralia, Washington “I was at Business Week sessions again, today, and the students continued to give Kiersten rave reviews.”— Matt Matayoshi, Executive 7 Director, Lewis County, EDC , Lewis County, Washington “We can’t get over how many students asked questions! They are never this engaged with a speaker. Thank you so much for inspiring them!” — Amanda Hubbert, Director, Business Week Program, Lewis County, Washington “Three times over the course of two days, Kiersten presented her story as a guest speaker at my Management 350 classes at Northern Arizona University. She explained, in her engaging style, how to conduct a successful personal pitch. Kiersten’s informative presentation captured the attention of students and prompted them to ask numerous follow-up questions, which she happily answered. Students are still talking about Kiersten’s advice. She is a highly capable speaker and I enthusiastically recommend her.” — Eric Dieterle, Assistant Professor of Practice, Northern Arizona University Kiersten frequently speaks to both collegiate and high school classrooms all over the world about the entrepreneurial journey. Here’s how we’re helping at our Flagstaff campus.
Primary Tracks 1-4 (run quarterly): This four-track program takes new founders as well as serial entrepreneurs through the entire business lifecycle - including ideation, product development and beta testing, moving to market and scaling for growth. Each track is designed to meet participants where they are, and participants move through the process as a cohort, building relationships with their peers and a network of fellow entrepreneurs.
Pitch Power: Only one in 100 entrepreneur pitches are selected by investors. The objective of the pitch is to get your audience to ask for more – to get to the next date where potential investors begin the negotiating and due diligence work to determine if you will be a good “steward” of their money. Pitch Power has been developed with the feedback of dozens of investors, seasoned entrepreneurs and business coaches. The Pitch Power training program is an intensive 8 week, no-nonsense, no gimmicks, no pop trends, practical and proven approach that guides you to make the perfect power pitch your audience wants to hear.
Early tracks focus on the fundamentals, such as understanding business strategy, defining beta programs, closing those first sales, and developing an entrepreneurial and leadership mindset. This helps minimize the risk associated with entrepreneurship and starts the venture with a more solid foundation. Later tracks focus on specific company needs based on individual strengths and weaknesses, and cover topics such as building sales pipeline, financial planning, forming an advisory board, talent acquisition strategies, defining metrics, and preparing for investor interest. Advancement through each track starts with a panel presentation, similar to an investor pitch, and ends with a one-page plan for progress – helping participants stay focused and accountable. Fiscal Agent: As a 501c3 NACET can act as a fiscal agent for grant pass through funds to businesses.
AWS (Amazon Web Services): Moonshot is putting Flagstaff on the map as the first US Cloud City. AWS offers 126 different web/cloud services for businesses to take things into their own hands and save time, money, and improve efficiency. Moonshot will asses each company for AWS products that could impact their operations. If there are services that the company can use Moonshot can award AWS credits (typically $5,000) to be put towards AWS services at no cost for the company.
Annual Events: Pioneer Pitch, Young Pioneer Pitch, and Entrepreneur Awards Ceremony Campus Community Social Events: We provide the companies on the NACET campus with opportunities to create a local community. Co-working Services: Work desk with insurance coverage, access to all educational and business services offered. Entrepreneurs & Executives in Residence Mentors Access to Capital, Clients, and Connections for Scale Launch & Learns Moonshot Boot Camps Non-profit Educational Track in partnership with Northern Arizona University. Junior Entrepreneur Track (In School/Camps) & Pitch Event
That big idea you have, the one that will change people’s lives - we’ll teach you how to turn it into a business.
We can’t all be astronauts, but we can be pioneers.
