Now we are tapping into unexplored areas of personalisation to design our lives and homes. This year, Moooi X EveryHuman brings an AI-fuelled bespoke interior fragrance experience where anyone can create their own Room Fragrance. These innovative solutions show our dedication to delivering a superior user experience and making our lives easier.

Waiting for a Star to Fall

INSPIRED BY NATURE

The best ideas come forth when the mind is totally at peace. And the most beautiful way to quiet the mind is to be in nature and gaze at a star-studded night sky. Anna Lindgren and Sofia Lagerkvist spent a lot of time outdoors in the Swedish forests at night. With the low population density in the Nordic country, it wasn’t hard for them to find a spot in the forest where it was completely dark, void from any light pollution. The idea for Starfall came to them when looking at the stars in one of those dark places. They wondered if they could create something that would give you that feeling of sitting underneath a starry sky. They eventually created the Starfall Light.

DERIVED FROM SCIENCE

Front first worked on an installation for the Science Museum in London. Collaborating with the European Space Agency, they created a gigantic installation of the 800 closest stars to earth. They were given a map with the distance of each star, and hung light sources from different heights, to simulate a dimensional installation of those 800 stars. The installation would become the first technical step for the Starfall Light. Front created an upside-down chandelier comprising multiple ‘stars’, hanging from different lengths that create that same threedimensional effect, as if you’re really stargazing. With the Starfall Light, you can always live under the stars!

The Serpentine Light by Front, originated from twisting and turning and playing with the tension and natural flow of a piece of paper.

A NATURAL AND CONTINUOUS FLOW

Serpentine Light, by Front, originated from playing with a piece of paper, discovering the limits of the different shapes it could adopt. Inspiration came from using the tension of the paper itself, making the surface flow naturally; without losing the continuous flow. They realised the twisting was made easier when using an S-shape. The suspension light comprises four S-shapes, twisted into cones and fashioned together to create an intricate spiralling shape.

The curves are outlined in a darker colouration, as well as supported by spokes, giving the design a pleasant riveting effect. The flow and curve of the material is very natural, coming together in a mathematical way.

The design’s strong character and illusion of perpetual movement makes it fit a lot of different environments. The lightweight material and the space between each cone, makes the Serpentine Light a very natural and airy suspension light. It can be easily multiplied in a larger space, the illusion of perpetual movement offering a fun and enchanting effect.

Serpentine Light comprises four S-shapes, twisted into cones and fashioned together to create an intricate spiralling shape.

The curvaceous extravagance of Aldora Sofa

The inspiration for the Aldora Sofa by Italian designer Cristina Celestino ranged between this wide juxtaposition of concepts—Milanese bourgeois compound sofas, soft femininity, and botanica.

The soft feminine shapes of the Aldora Sofa remind us of the graceful petals of calla lilies with the allure of Milanese bourgeois decadence.

MILANESE BOURGEOIS

The Aldora Sofa is a contemporary spin on a classical concept. It reminds you of the allure of Milanese bourgeois extravagance. The times when interiors were filled with inviting curves and lavish materials. Almost enchanting. The curves and unique details of the compact Aldora Sofa leave space for lightness and gives any room in your home or office a touch of elegance.

BOTANICAL BEAUTY

Cristina Celestino often refers to her deepened research of human-made nature in her projects/designs. For the Aldora Sofa, not just Milanese bourgeoisie inspired her, but also the botanical world. The curved backrests resemble the folding shape of the calla lily. Dividing the seats’ backrests into two partitions comes from the aesthetics of the parting of an insect’s wings. By playing with the scale and volume of the wings, the backrest makes the sofa truly iconic, turning the organic volumes into function.

This multifunctional iconic seater stands out from the crowd thanks to its impressive and sculptural backrest. Multifunctional and customisable, as it is also available as a chaise longue. Aldora can be upholstered in many fabrics, but we recommend Palette. A sophisticated and elegant fabric that is warm and rich to the touch. It reminds you of sumptuous mohair with characteristics similar to velvet.

THE ETERNAL GROWTH OF THE HERACLEUM

Designer Bertjan Pot’s first examinations for his iconic and blossoming Heracleum were a bundle of electrical wires and the wish to light many LEDs at once.

Heracleum is a Moooi Original design with a strong presence in our collection since the first introduction in 2010.

THE STORY OF A MOOOI ORIGINAL

Like almost all of Bertjan Pot’s designs, Heracleum started out as an experiment. The Dutch designer loves exploring all possibilities of a material. For his Heracleum, he experimented with LED lights. He tried lighting many LED lights simultaneously and experimented with bundles of electrical wires shaped into a branch structure. During development, he realised it would need too much soldering.

Not willing to give up on his idea, Pot contacted Moooi’s founder and creative director Marcel Wanders. He came up with the luminous idea to apply Electrosandwich® by Marcel Wanders studio: a technique of two layers of isolation and conductivity coated onto the structure. The conductive layer on top supplied the LEDs with power. This technique allowed the design to be even more slender than he initially hoped. His design and Electrosandwich® proved perfect for each other.

FUNCTION AND FUN

The Pallana Light is an elegant and playful lighting fixture by global design company IDEO. Although its name suggests the inspiration came from the entertainment industry, it was functionality and crisp engineering that spurred the designers from global design company IDEO to create this suspended task light. Ultimately, Pallana is both. The perfect combination between function and fun—practically playful!

UNEXPECTED FINISHES

When designing Pallana, IDEO imagined simple, even basic shapes, mechanically joined yet barely touching. They used a combination of matte steel and knitted fabric to add softness to the shapes. The unexpected finishes add a unique touch of elegance to the overall design and sets Pallana apart from traditional finish choices.

VERSATILE AND VISUALLY STUNNING

Pallana is not only visually stunning but also practical and versatile. It supports the flow of activities and moods throughout the day, making it perfect for any occasion. The NomNom Light

LOOKS DELICIOUS!

Is it a ball of rice? A marshmallow?

A dumpling? Whatever it is, NomNom’s unobtrusive design puts a smile on your face and a tingle in your belly! But the inspiration for this elegant suspension light did not start out with the need for a snack. It results from wanting to create something that catches the eye, without unnecessary detailing. Two aluminium sticks and a glass sphere is all that was needed to create a minimalistic but playful silhouette that leaves a sweet impression.

PLAYFUL MINIMALISM

The NomNom Light is the perfect example of the art of omission. The frosted glass between the ‘chopsticks’ is illuminated evenly, spreading the light in all directions. Upon looking closer, you can see that the sides of the glass sphere are gently squeezed, completing the impression of chopsticks holding something yummy. A lighting object that is about playful minimalism combined with elegance and humour. The NomNom Light is simply irresistible, making us hungry for more!
