RED CARPET COLLECTION 2019
Each Chopard creation carries within it the strength of the passion that brought it to life as seen in these images the latest Love collection is a continuation of the Hgh Jewellery collection from the early 2019, Thus for her Red Carpet Collection 2019, Caroline Scheufele, co-president and artistic director of the Maison, has chosen LOVE as her inspirational theme. Stemming from her extraordinary creativity and the age-old jewellery know-how that the Mains d'Art of the Haute Joaillerie Chopard workshops pass on from generation to generation, the Maison graces the Cannes International Film Festival – to which it has been an official partner since 1998. With the opening of the Festival, Scheufele unveils the 72 creations composing this year’s magnificent collection. Through her eclectic curiosity and tender-hearted vision of everything around her, Caroline Scheufele is capable of perceiving the energy and beauty of her surroundings. LOVE, the theme of this Red Carpet Collection, celebrates love in its most diverse forms. From the people around her to the animal and plant world, from art history to research and innovation, Caroline Scheufele nourishes her benevolent curiosity with each and every detail. At the Maison Chopard, human beings are at the heart of creativity. Splendours of the Red Carpet Collection 2019 From the initial idea through to its fulfilment by the Chopard Haute Joaillerie workshops, the dazzling Red Carpet Collection dons its luminous apparel, driven by the expertise and talent of its Mains d’Art. The unveiling of 72 necklaces, bracelets, rings, brooches and jewellery watches, conceptualised by Caroline, for the legendary ‘montée des marches’ red carpet ritual, marked the opening ceremony of the Cannes Festival. A set comprising a necklace and a pair of earrings in which splendid heart-shaped tanzanites, Paraiba tourmalines, amethysts and diamonds meet in beautifully light gold circles of ethical white gold and titanium. called for 500 hours of work, testifying to the quintessence of jewellery excellence embodied by Chopard. A quest for perfection that Caroline Scheufele expresses right the way through to the choice of breathtakingly beautiful precious gems. Witness a 111-carat cabochon-cut emerald mounted on a floral-inspired necklace, as well as exceptional pink diamonds showcased on solitaire rings.
#REDCARPET
Anthem to colour Through the choice of precious stones, colour plays a starring role in the Red Carpet Collection. A set comprising a necklace and a pair of earrings thus combines the purity of diamonds with the vivacity of entrancingly beautiful pink sapphires. Their design playfully mingles marquise, pear and brilliant cuts in an exceptionally harmonious manner. Graced with another style and other colour pairing, two pairs of chandelier earrings testify to the Chopard workshops’ mastery of titanium. Known for its lightness, this metal invisibly supports a cascade of either tanzanites or amethysts, with the coloured titanium appearing to vanish entirely so as to magnify the brilliance and depth of the gems. Other talismans, such as sautoir necklaces, feature subtly graded shapes evoking rainbow colours. Finally, two bracelets set the perfect finishing touch: one in a pleasing combination of Paraiba tourmalines, tanzanites, amethysts and sapphires; and the other associating the orange tone of a Spessartite garnet with the green and blue shimmer of a setting composed of opals, emeralds and sapphires. When passion blooms Because the greatest declarations of love are always accompanied by flowers, Caroline Scheufele has designed a set composed of rings and earrings shaped like astonishingly lifelike orchids. Vividly expressing the creative and technical brilliance cultivated by the Maison, these dainty titanium flower stems adorned with diamonds, amethysts and sapphires achieve immortality as if a single spell had transformed them into jewellery. And since love is a game of seduction in nature just as among human beings, these orchids attract foraging insects by means of their labella composed of white opals radiating the spectacular pinkish shimmer of tinted titanium. The petals on the earrings are entirely paved with diamonds and amethysts, while those of the ring are delicately adorned with pink sapphires and diamonds Time for love - (as Miss Switzerland staded in an exclusive inteview for Moralmoda Magazine Chopard's series of jewellery watches illustrating its age-old expertise. Entirely set with diamonds forming a precious lacework (again ref. to Precious Lace Collection) motif that has become a signature of Chopard Haute Joaillerie, the watches in the Red Carpet Collection welcome rare precious stones to their dials. Strategically placed at 12 and 6 o’clock, an array of sapphires, rubies, emeralds or magnificent pink and yellow diamonds gracefully clothe time with a sparkling mantle. The Journey to Sustainable Luxury How can one interpret love without addressing the subject of ethics and social responsibility? In 2013, Chopard embarked on a major challenge by enriching the Red Carpet Collection with two pieces from a capsule collection made from certified materials: ethical ‘Fairmined’ certified gold and diamonds purchased from suppliers certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). Ever since, Caroline Scheufele has constantly enriched this jewellery line – aptly named the Green Carpet Collection – by adding opals, emeralds and Paraiba tourmalines meeting the highest extraction and traceability criteria. This year, the collection holds some exceptional new pieces, starting with a superb cuff bracelet featuring volutes composed of more than 25 carats of diamonds and which required no less than 340 hours of work by the Mains d’Art of the Maison. A necklace and a pair of matching earrings also join the line-up, featuring white gold and diamonds forming fine jewellery lacework emblematic of the Maison Chopard. Commensurate with the ethical criteria of the Green Carpet Collection, these three jewellery creations are crafted in ethical ‘Fairmined’ certified gold and sparkle with diamonds sourced exclusively from RJC approved suppliers. Creations interpreted by artist Megan Hess Sharing the same passion for drawing, Caroline Scheufele asked Australian artist Megan Hess to provide her own interpretation of the creations.
Chopard, the “Red Carpet Jeweller” Chopard plays a major role on the contemporary art scene, particularly through its ties with cinema, since the Maison has been a partner to the Cannes International Film Festival since 1998. Each year, Caroline Scheufele designs an Haute Joaillerie collection that meets the extraordinary challenge of offering a number of jewellery creations matching the number of Festival editions. In 2019, that means no less than 72 talismans compose a collection dedicated to the stunningly beautiful actresses during their red-carpet appearances. This alchemist’s blend of colours and shapes, expressed through the most precious gems, makes Chopard a key player on the Riviera and the ultimate "Red Carpet Jeweller".

French model Gabrielle Caunesnil wears a printed draped lurex dress featuring a side slit from the couture FallWinter 2019-20 "Temple of Flora" collection at the UNICEF summer gala 2019 in Porto Cervo, Italy.
Entitled the Summer Gala, the event’s second edition had booked performances by Dame Shirley Bassey and Ellie Goulding, among others, on the sunbaked Mediterranean island. Besides the musical performances there were also live auction of art, luxury items, and impossible-to-get experiences conducted by Alexander Gilkes and a mega after-party staged on August 9. Like last year, UNICEF Italy and LuisaViaRoma stage their Summer Gala in the beautiful seaside resort of Porto Cervo in Sardinia. It was jointly hosted by LuisaViaRoma’s hardcharging CEO Andrea Panconesi; UNICEF Italy Executive Director Paolo Rozera, and Fundraising Chairman Tommaso Chiabra.
Supermodel Ariana Lima wears a light pink dress hand embellished with three dimensional iridescent PVC flowers, from the couture Fall-Winter 2019-20 "Temple of Flora" collection at the UNICEF summer gala 2019 in Porto Cervo, Italy. Last summer, the event raised two million euros for UNICEF, selling paintings, sculptures and yachting holidays in an auction; while Ricky Martin, Rita Ora and Sofia Carson performed. Diana Picasso, Emily Ratajkowski, Gina Lollobrigida, Heidi Klum, Nicole Scherzinger, Shanina Shaik and the Missonis, Angela and Margherita, all showed up. This year’s event is produced by Andy Boose and Stefan Santoni of ISG/International Society Group. Funds raised during this event go towards supporting UNICEF’s work in providing care and protection to vulnerable children across the globe. Despite remarkable challenges around the world, UNICEF employees continue to fight for the rights of vulnerable kids daily, seeking to provide safe shelter, nutrition and protection from conflicts, natural disasters and inequality to those in need.

About Piaget The unique allure of Piaget lies in the audacity of its style. Charismatic and flamboyant, dazzling watch and jewellery creations embody the radiance that defines the Maison. This passion for daring creativity was born in La Côte-aux-Fées, where Georges-Edouard Piaget set up his first workshop in 1874 in the family farmhouse and devoted himself to producing highprecision movements. This marked the start of an ever-growing reputation. Faithful to its pioneering spirit, in the late 1950s Piaget set about designing and manufacturing the ultra-thin movements that would become the Maison’s trademark and leave a lasting impression in the art of watchmaking. Driven by Yves G. Piaget, the Maison swept to new heights of creativity in the 1960s. Piaget developed many privileged relationships with artists and artisans who greatly impacted generations with their inspirations and creativity.

Lebanese-American fashion designer Rami Kadi marks his 2nd couture fashion show during Paris Haute Couture Week by showcasing his couture Fall-Winter 2019-20 collection “The Temple Of Flora”. For this collection, the designer took his inspiration from Taschen’s reprint of The Temple Of Flora, a box set portfolio of illustrations by Robert John Thornton. The prints had such an impression on him that the next step was thinking of a contemporary response to them. This response became the collection.
“If the act of self-contemplation has turned Narcissus into a flower, maybe the opposite was equally true; maybe the act of contemplating upon a flower can emancipate us from ourselves and release all of the personae that dwell inside them.” Rami Kadi

ANNA HU HAUTE JOAILLERIE « SILK ROAD MUSIC COLLECTION » GLOBAL GRAND DEBUT DURING PARIS HAUTE COUTURE WEEK
Other than « Silk Road Music Collection », there were also nine other ANNA HU’s latest creations in Paris this time. Each piece all individually represents HU’s ongoing enthusiasm in music, culture, and nature, bringing the audience an eye-opening experience in art. M. Pascal Morand, Executive President of Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, also joined ANNA HU at the brand’s cocktail reception to congratulate her new collection and officially announce her as member of the Paris Haute Couture Committee.
Aline
A prodigy cellist, Anna’s design inspirations are often rooted in her deep devotion to classical music, though she also draws from her heritage and nature, and occasionally references Impressionism and Art Nouveau. Anna is as much a scholar as she is an artist and her designs reflect that rarity and sophistication. She works exclusively with French-trained artisans, who are masters of old-world craftsmanship and stewards of new-world innovation. Her ateliers in New York and Paris are among the world’s finest.
Above right: « Silk Road Music Collection » Jadeite Cello Brooch The inspiration for Anna originates from her musical background—her passion for classical music and contemporary art. To Anna, jewelry designs are like musical creations, and in her works, a song’s melodic beauty can always be felt. Anna projects her passion for music onto her creations. This jade cello brooch takes inspiration from Picasso’s Violin Hanging on the Wall, located in Switzerland’s Museum of Fine Arts Bern (Kunstmuseum Bern, more on Picasso in the end). Anna used smooth lines to outline and create the cello body and injected her love for music into the design, evoking power of music with the soft lines sweeping people off their feet like a moving melody.

« Silk Road Music Collection » Dunhuang Pipa Necklace in Yellow Diamond has equally extraordinary inspiration from the Dunhuang Mogao grottoes. Since Sui-Tang times, the Mogao Grottoes have symbolized the starting point of the Silk Road and the assemblage of eastern and western arts. The music of the Western Regions that is sometimes elegant and sometimes fast and vivacious was also introduced into China at this time. Growing up in the ancient capital of Tainan, immersed in the quiet ambience of eastern culture, but living since childhood in the New York metropolitan area that is called the cultural salon of the West, Anna is well-versed in eastern and western art cultures. This, combined with her deep musical background, led Anna to transform the pipa imagery originating from lands north of the Great Wall and the lines of a western staff into necklace pendants and chain. Based on the inspiration from the interflow of eastern and western arts and the exquisite melody of the Silk Road symbolized by the Mogao Grottoes, playing silent but touching notes, Anna embodies the beautiful imagery produced by the collision of eastern and western cultures in her jewelry.

The ‘Suminagashi’ garments which reflect the venerable art of Japanese floating ink on water, are lasercut into liquid lines of dyed silk, heat bonded onto transparent tulle to seemingly and seamlessly flow over the skin. The ‘Dichotomy’ looks are laser- printed, heat-bonded and lasercut into contra-positive waves. Each dissected curve is then pressed onto hundreds of ripple-like panels that ebb and flow in an

exquisite swell of meticulously hand stitched silk organza. The ‘Hypnosis’ technique, developed in collaboration with Professor Phillip Beesley involves ten of thousands of plottercut mini ripples that continuously dissect the dress through each movement of the body, revealing skin in between the whimsical spheroid patterns. The printed duchesse-satin is plottercut into thousands of 0.8 mm exquisite waves that each are interlinked, designed to move faster than the eye can follow.

Each course was designed to correspond to the three chapters of the collection. During the first interlude, each guest was presented with a golden manual music box, which they were encouraged to play along to the tunes of “The Hymn of Joy”. A captivating soprano singer floated up from the ground to the heights of the beautiful ballroom in her giant yellow sunny dress while she sang. 120 waiters were dressed in various interactive costumes, beginning with an illuminated sun on their backs. For the second course, the waiters wore a hat that transformed into a video projector displaying pictures that inspired the new Golden Oasis collection, followed by hats that supported neon words during the serving of the dessert course. Piaget Golden Oasis creations were presented by models wearing stunning dresses from fashion designer Alexander Vauthier. To close the dinner, guests enjoyed an interactive fishing game from miniaturized oasis landscapes moving across the tables allowing each guest to have the chance to win a Piaget Possession necklace. Every detail of the dinner was designed to immerse guests in the radiance of Piaget’s newest high jewellery collection. To end the dinner in a blaze of glory and launch the after-party, the 120 waiters popped thousands of confetti upon the guests, creating a mesmerizing rain of gold glitter.

The new sensational High Jewellery Collection by Van Cleef & Arpels is the most perfect tribute to His Majesty the Ruby, showcasing the beauty and splendour of this legendary gem. ollowing the exceptional “Émeraude en Majesté” collection
dedicated to emeralds and so successfully presented F entirely in 2016 by the Maison, years of patient research of the most
beautiful rubies in the world, almost 3.000 carats of certified fiery red gems set on 60 extraordinary jewels characterize now “Treasure of Rubies”, the new, spectacular High Jewellery collection by Van Cleef & Arpels. Recently presented in Bangkok inside a very fascinating location at the presence of Nicolas Bos, 3 President of the Maison and his Creative Director, to a select audience of clients, discerning collectors and to journalists from the most important international newspapers, the ruby has always been considered in India as “Ratna Raj”, the king of precious stones, the undisputed protagonist of this masterful array of gems. Being able to unite and match so expertly both in quality and homogeneity of colour a selection of rubies of this beauty was a gemological tour de force that only a great jeweller like Van Cleef & Arpels could hope to overcome, achieving a so unequalled creative unicuum. Already considered during the Renaissance eight times more valuable than diamonds of the corresponding quality due to its rarity and the uniqueness of its intense colour, in the rarest specimens a perfect balance between purple-red and a slightly orange-red, ruby is a symbolic stone of strength, power and passion, always eagerly collected and present in the most important noble and royal collections, and not only. The specimens set now by the Maison are almost all 4 Burmese gems, mined in the legendary valley of Mogok, all with an absolutely natural colour and no heat treatment,
but there are also rubies of other origins like those from Tanzania, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan and Vietnam, or those of the most recent mines in Mozambique, very transparent and characterized by refined crimson-red shades. They are all stones with a particular charm, perfect to be certainly defined as “Pierres de Caractère”, term adopted in recent years but for which Van Cleef & Arpels has always been renowned, stones with a soul and with particular characteristics, stones, in fact, with a strong personality: by origin, intensity of colour, extreme rarity and, sometimes, for their important provenance. Since its foundation in 1906, Van Cleef & Arpels has always been very lured by the fascination of this unique and extremely rare gemstone, undoubtedly the favourite of Jacques Arpels, as he declared in an interview released in 1982. Among the most sensational creations of “Treasure of Rubies”, I like to remember several pieces that I believe are truly magnificent and, in their style, inspirations and are design, so quintessentially Van Cleef & Arpels. The very precious collaret “Rubis Flamboyant” is designed as a series of diamond circles in white .. gold, joined together by elegant cartouches all pavé-set with diamonds, in the centre of each one splendid cushion-cut rubies for a total well over 5 thirty carats are mounted in yellow gold, creating a pleasant contrast between the two metals. The highlight of this jewels is its central pendant, detachable to be worn as a clip: shaped as a large polygonal plaque ci
1) ELEGANCE IN RED The Paisley Précieux necklace features a unique selection of oval cut rubies perfectly matched in colour and size gradation, outlined by important diamond entourages, on white and pink gold. 2) TOI ET MOI The Zita ring is set with an important cushion-cut diamond that dialogues with its ruby counterpart, both detailed by rubies and diamonds frames by clear oriental inspiration, on pink gold. 3) PERFECT PAIR The Unisson detachable pendant earrings are characterized by interlocking upper motifs played with a mirror effect set in rubies and diamonds, holding two important removable pear shaped ruby and diamond drops, each one detailed by horseshoe frames in rubies and diamonds, on white and pink gold. 4) BIRD OF FIRE The Berunda cuff bracelet inspired by the mythological double headed bird so revered in Indian culture, features an important cushion cut ruby and a unique diamond of the same cut, both detailed by round and carrè-cut rubies and diamonds set on two large spiral motifs. 5) RED TREASURE The spectacular ruby of 25.76 carats set on the pendant of the Rubis Flamboyant Necklace and ring is a truly unique gem.

fully set with diamonds and detailed on the outer sides by baguette and carré-cut diamonds, it serves as pretext to hold the most important ruby of the entire collection. The stone can be further detached from the pendant to be inserted on an impressive yellow gold ring, outlined by a frame in tapered baguette and trapezoid-cut diamonds, with a large band detailed by cross lines of diamonds. It is a ruby of 25.76 carats, of the most splendid red, deep and velvety, a Burmese specimen of oblong cushion-cut, of extraordinary beauty, perfection and unimaginable price. Please consider that when a ruby of ten carats with these characteristics appears on the market, fact itself perceived as absolute rarity, to the four corners of the planet an authentic “Ruby Fever” explodes between merchants and avid collectors of this gemstone. Let’s imagine for a gem of almost 26 carats! The spectacular “Berunda” cuff bracelet in rose gold, from the name of the mythological two-headed bird so revered in India, in the past also a symbol present on the royal insignia of the princely House of Mysore, is designed as two large curls to elegantly form the stylized volatile heads, one opposed to the other in a clever mirroring effect obtained with rubies and diamonds, both of round baguette and carré-cut, centred respectively by an important cushion-cut diamond of 3.99 carats of exceptional quality for the section mainly set with rubies, and by a rare 3.23 ............... carats ruby of similar cut for that almost entirely 7) set in diamonds. The Yin and Yang effect is superb, here extremely precious in red and white, with the stones masterfully mounted on slightly different levels. Rose gold perfectly sublimates the embers glow of the rubies and soften with femininity the dazzling light of the diamonds. The extremely glamorous and stunning “Duo des Diamants” earrings with detachable pendants are set with two fantastic pear shaped diamonds of 21.26 and 20.37.carats, so unique either in term of brightness or

scintillation, colour and clarity, connected to the upper cartouche of diamonds, of similar cut yet smaller, thanks to carré-cut rubies. A frame of calibré-cut red stones surrounds the four main diamonds, the largest free to swing creating an effect of great magic and absolute splendour, but there are also rubies of other origins like those from almost fairytale. The Maha Tanzania, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan and Vietnam, or ring, those en suite with these of the most recent mines in Mozambique, very transparent ear pendants, is set with an important pear shaped diamond 6) of 8.03 carats, D colour and Internally Flawless, Type 2A, set in the centre of a cross-pointed motif in round and baguette-cut diamonds, alternated with bands of cabochon buff top rubies, low and polished, by a glass effect. The shape ofthe ring recalls the ancient headdresses worn by the Apsaras deities, present in both Indian and Buddhist mythology, as depicted on the rock carvings in Ajanta and Ellora or in the Khmer temples of Angkor. The great fascination aroused by the East and its refinened cultures have often characterized the most beautiful creations of fhe Maison. Since the Fifties and Sixties, the Arpels brothers often travelled to India, visiting the princely courts of the 5 Maharajahs that were already their friends, confident and important clients. They returned to Paris with exceptional new acquisitions of rare and unique gems, among them rubies of legendary beauty, like the Tibaw, once in 9) the collection of the king of Burma.

he very feminine necklace “ Jardin de Rubis” is shaped like an ornate diamonds rivère in white and pink gold enhanced at regular intvals by .......... circular motifs paved with brilliant-cut diamonds that holds clusters of rubies in different shades of red played “ en camaïeu”, along with pink and white diamond accents. A sort of little gardens in full bloom to embellish the décolleté. The central oval pendant by the same mood and gems detaches to be worn as an impressive clip, perfect to be set with a magnificent oval-cut ruby mined in Mozambique of 18.12 carats, of the most perfect pinkish red hue, very alive and incredibly transparent, resting on a double frame of diamonds. A piece of great finesse and elegance, full of poetry in its inspiration. Over the years, Van Cleef & Arpels’ rubies have adorned the most famous clients of the Maison, its perfect icons to enhance spectacular jewels, many of which have become legendary. How not to remember the great peony clip of the Princess Faiza of Egypt, created in 1937, with the half-closed petals masterfully rendered in rubies mounted with the Mystery Setting technique, since 1933 an exclusive patent of the Maison, originally matched with a second peony in full bloom set with the same red gems, the leaves rendered in circular-cut diamonds and the stem in baguettes, then mysteriously disappeared and never found again. Spectacular is the necklace, also wearable as a tiara, in rubies and diamonds set in oriental taste, characterized by lotus flower motifs, belonged to the American heiress Barbara Hutton, created in 1940 by Van Cleef & Arpels by remouting the scarlet gems once in the possession of Queen Amalia of Portugal.

So iconic and famous is the bracelet in rubies and diamonds that the much discussed Duke of Windsor, for a few months King of England, gave to the woman for whom he renounced the throne: Wallis Simpson, the controversial, elegant and very sarcastic Duchess of Windsor, one of the most important clients of the Maison.
10) BURNING EMBERS. The Éventail Souverain cuff bracelet features an important collection of rubies surrounded by ornate diamond motifs, reminiscent of the famous Maison’s Jarretières bracelets of the late Thirties.
Created in 1936, four bridge-shaped articulated elements are set with rows of flamboyant oval rubies, outlined by round and baguette-cut frames. Inside, a symbolic engraving wanted by the Duke: “Hold Tight, 27-III-36”, perfectly understandable a few month before his resounding abdication, waiting for Wallis to finally rejoin him. The Duchess also received as a gift from the Duke a matching necklace in the typical Art Déco style made of large swags of rubies interspersed with geometric motifs paved with diamonds, gemstones later reset for her in a more avant-garde design by Renè-Sim Lacaze, the very talented head designer of the Maison in those years. Apparently, the Duchess seems to have been very bored in noticing the elegant socialite and friend Hélène Beaumont, a true queen of the Côte d’Azur social life in those years, wearing a too similar necklace made by Van Cleef & Arpels at the same exclusive parties attended by both, subtracting Wallis in such an obvious way from the primacy of exclusivity, for which she loved to excel. Transformed in 1939 into recurring twisted motifs in rubies and in baguette-cut diamonds, with a central pendant made of rubies set as a large cluster of stones, it was designed to be worn slightly off-centre to outline her celebrated Couture outfits created by Balenciaga, Dior, Mainbocher or Schiaparelli, perfect backgrounds to outline this magnificent jewel, often worn by the Duchess during many social events in the years to come. The icy and mysterious actress Marléne Dietrich ordered in 1937 to her friend Louis Arpels a spectacular Jarretière bracelet, possibly a present of Erich Maria Remarque, her boyfriend at the time, designed as a large buckle all set with oval-cut rubies, blocked on the side by an ornate and sculptural geometric motif all paved with round, trapeze and baguette-cut diamonds, the same jewel that she pretend to wear in 1950 in the famous Hitchcock’s thriller, “Stage Fright”. The imposing bracelet “Eventail Souverain” now part of the” Treasure of Rubies” collection seems to be a clear updated tribute to the spectacular Jarretière cuff owned by Dietrich and to those created by the Maison at the end of the Thirties. During the glamorous Fifties, the famous billionaire and shipowner Aristotle Onassis ordered at Van Cleef & Arpels’ store in New York a very elegant ras-de-cou necklace mounted with large clusters set with oval-cut rubies surrounded by diamonds,
15) originally conceived as present for the wedding of Princess Grace with Prince Rainier II of Monaco. At the last moment Onassis preferred to keep the necklace for himself, to give it to his wife Tina Livanos, mother THE ”JARDIN DE RUBIS” NECKLACE of his children Alexander and Christina. IS SHAPED LIKE A BLOOMING GARDEN, TO ENHANCE Actor Richard Burton, famous for his THE DÉCOLLETAGE exceptional jewellery purchases for Elizabeth Taylor, had long been looking for an important ruby to give to the famous violet-eyed actress. The occasion appeared at the end of the Sixties when the fabulous “Puertas” ruby well exceeding eight carats was proposed by Van Cleef & Arpels to the Welsh actor, mounted in the centre of a yellow gold ring, surrounded by important circular-cut diamonds. It seems that when Elizabeth received the ring in December 1969 in Gstaad, at the chalet “Ariel” owned by Richard, she shouted so loudly at the sight of the stone that the echo of her astonished exclamation was heard throughout the quiet Swiss village. The famous soprano Maria Callas, introduced at Van Cleef & Arpels Certainly also the rubies now by Ari Onassis during the brief years of their burning and troubled passion, mounted by the Maison on the bought for herself at 22, Place Vendôme an elegant five leaves diamond clip, spectacular creations of “Treasure of created in 1967, which has its central parts enhanced by six important Rubies” will define new and modern Burmese rubies of great beauty, worn by the “Divina” during the final legends, creating a trait d’union with concerts of her career, at the beginning of the Seventies. The very chic those of the past, Van Cleef & Arpels’ Princess Salima Aga Khan received in 1971 as a gift from Prince Karim Aga fascinating and immortal heritage, to Khan IV the very impressive bib necklace set with oval and pear-shaped adorn with style, exceptionality and cabochon-cut rubies enhanced by diamond entourages known as refined elegance today’s lucky “Velasquez”, set on yellow gold according to the trend of the period, whose clients, thus defining new central motif could be detached and worn as an important brooch. contemporary icons. A master of metamorphosis creations Chaumet has put its name to numerous transformable creations, from necklaces that double up as brooches, to tiaras with removable diamonds (now on view at the current Chaumet exhibition in Monaco) or gemstone pendants that can be attached to necklaces or earrings. The new Chaumet high jewellery collection unveiled this summer continues this tradition, with different interpretations of
