Electrification and women at the heart of the 15th Dubai International Motor Show
With the UAE’s efforts in making the country greener, one thing is certain – customers in region will have a number of electric vehicles to choose from, whether for long-distance driving or adrenaline-packed experiences.
The Dubai International Motor Show, taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) through Saturday, 16th November, presents not only the latest developments in car engineering but even the development of the society. Two things are clear to the visitor, there will be more electrification and female car drivers. Moreover the Show hosted world first live Women’s World Car of the Year award ceremony. Given the rise of female car purchasers world-wide, the female voice is more important than ever and the female demographic is, in fact, the fastestgrowing consumer segment in the world and arguably the most influential. Mazda 3 was awarded the Supreme Award for the Women’s World Car of the Year (WWCOTY) in the presence of Founder of WWCOTY, Sandy Myhre from New Zealand and the GCC Jury Shereen Shabnam. The Holly Reich Dream Car Award, (named in honour of a jury member from New York who passed away in 2016), was awarded to Porsche Taycan. The Woman of Worth Award for 2019, for the woman whom judges feel has contributed significantly to the motor industry, goes to Linda Jackson, CEO, Citroën. Representing Woman’s World Car of the Year, Sandy Myhre, CEO, said the activities for women at the Dubai International Motor Show were ground-breaking. “Creating time in a motor show specifically for women is a world first. WWCOTY has never announced their results live from a motor show so that’s innovative and to be able to interview women driving instructors from Saudi Arabia live on the stage is pioneering. The fact all these things are happening in Dubai in the UAE is highly symbolic.” WWCOTY Award winners were selected by 41 jury members from 34 different countries; the jury has a collective audience of over 260 million people. Inkas, the UAE-based armored vehicle company, closed day three with an impressive deal of USD 15 million. Commenting on their remarkable sale at the show, Ulugbekhon Maksumov, CEO of Inkas Vehicles LLC, said: "We are overwhelmed with the interest that has been expressed in our wide range of armored commercial and tactical vehicles at our Dubai International Motor Show stand. We’ve already had genuine interest from customers across the MENA and CIS regions and we are delighted to announce that on day three we closed a sale of over US$ 15 million.”
Irish F1 legend, Eddie Jordan, spoke to fans about his experiences founding the Jordan Grand Prix team in the 1991, discovering a young Michael Schumacher and racing with mid-1970s legends Alain Prost, Niki Lauda, Emerson Fittipaldi and James Hunt. Impressed by the show, Jordan stated: “This is the first time I am visiting the DMS, and it is a revelation; very friendly, very open. The cars are sensational, especially the supercars. The show has lots of emphasis on the new era of mobility and electrification. I am overjoyed with the level of expertise that the DMS has in place, in terms of how visitors are being informed about where the industry is going and the technology that is shaping it.”

Mauro is Chef Patron of the three Michelin starred restaurant, Mirazur, on the French Riviera which was voted number one in the world at
The World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards 2019. It is the first time that France has received the number one position since The World’s 50 Best began in 2002. Mauro opened his restaurant after working in Paris with Alain Ducasse at the Hotel Plaza Athénée. Mauro is today the first non-French three Michelin starred chef in the 110-year history of the guide. Mauro soon held the positions of souschef de cuisine to Alain Passard at l’Arpège, demi-chef de partie at Alain Ducasse at the Hotel Plaza Athénée, finally spending a year at Le Grand Véfour. In 2006, Mauro opened his restaurant Mirazur in Menton, the French Riviera, and in less than a year, received his first Michelin star.

Mauro Colagreco adds to his three Michelin stars and first place in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants as he is named the World’s Most Influential Chef. And it seems fitting that the year’s most hyped chef has chosen 2020’s most anticipated hotel opening (mid 2020), Capella Bangkok, as the destination for Côte by Mauro Colagreco. His legendary hautecuisine establishment Mirazur then went on to top the World’s 50 Best Restaurants in June, and now Colagreco’s peers have named him the ‘The World’s Most Influential Chef’ – as well as being named the Best Chef in the World for 2020 at the same event.

The light and airy interiors are filled with historic and contemporary artwork with tributes to the works of Mirò, Magritte and Warhol. The reverence for contemporary art continues in The White Museum collection, dispersed throughout the hotel, which recounts the spirit of Anacapri and includes pieces by De Chirico, Keith Haring, and Pomodoro, amongst others. There is a sculptural installation by Arnaldo Pomodoro bordering the 40-metre hotel pool. The work runs along the entrance and gives a glimpse of the transparent pool made with Velasco Vitali's mosaic. Next to the reception is as sculptural helmet by Mimmo Paladino and a Giorgio De Chirico painting separated by offices from a grille once belonging to the cloister of a 14th-century monastery. Rooms & Suites featuring contemporary art Tasteful interiors of the open spaces flow into the 68 immaculately designed guest rooms. White, blue and neutral tones create an unmistakably Mediterranean atmosphere, while the ceramic tiles and bespoke furniture evoke the sense of an Italian family home. The rooms have distinct Mediterranean flavour, with interiors drawing on an artistic or cinematic inspiration, as in the presidential suite inspired by Gwyneth Paltrow, or other suites inspired by Maria Callas, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. The rooms dedicated to artists like Andy Warhol and René Magritten offer even private pools and mosaics. Mirò Suite is furnished with pieces by Joan Mirò himself.

chieving top results in each project that he initiates is not easy, nor is it his ultimate aim in itself, in stead Abdulla Omar AlAli seems more dedicated to share his skills and experience to support his surroundings and seeing others happy and growing as individuals. In a personal interview conducted (during the week of the Dubai International Motor Show exhibition) at the lobby of iconic Emirates Towers Jumeirah property, Mr AlAli unveiled to Moralmoda Magazine the philosophy which has lead him to public and private highlights and also his successful athletic and business achievements. It was remarkable experience to interview Abdulla, who is an excellent speaker in Arabic and English, and to understand the golden rule of prioritizing in personal development to reach even impressive professional success. We learn that his father, who ranks to an UAE colonel, has always supported his son, who in turn became an accomplished and multi-skilled athlete, and came to represent his country at international level sport competing at young age. Today Mr AlAli remains an exemplary man, who represents his country at many levels, from being athlete to the voice of his generation. At the same time Omar remains confident and determined on how to act in order to support his fellows to achieve the best result and become the best individual that they can be - an inspiration, a coach and a role model of his generation. Discover in the following pages about discipline. MM: How do you find the right amount of energy and ressources needed to ballance your many responsabilities and projects? AA: We can look at this in a figurative way, think of your comfort zone as a circle, here usually you feel safe, you feel like you are in control - `I am good, I´am satisfied`, and here is the problem, why? - You would never grow, you would never challenge yourself to do something new - because you are in your comfort zone, where you are relaxed. You will not do any mistake, because you are in your comfort zone. So the moment you start thinking to get out of
that comfort zone, is when you enter the next zone which is the fear zone. Fear Zone is where you are trying something new, e.g. a new idea that came to your mind, so you need new skills and you need courage, the opposite of courage is fear. Fear can manifest itself when people´s opinions are hard on you. You may get scared, if they say 'you will never make it..' And you start to doubt in your self, 'Maybe I will never make it?'. So from this standpoint it's either to go further or you will return to your comfort zone and you will stay the same. So the moment you take that challenge, 'I don't want to hear their opinion, I have my opinion, ok I know it's hard, but I will learn skills, then you will enter the third zone, which is the Learning Zone. Here you will deal with the challenges, you will face the challenges, you will extend your limits , and the Learning zone will be the hardest, in this zone you will suffer, maybe you will not sleep. Or you will not know the date because you are so into your new skills into your new project that you want to achieve. Learning zone is going to be so hard, once you handle it you will enter the last zone of development. where you grow, where you can handle your new skill, where you find the purpose, find the
All images (Copyrights: AlAli). reason, where you will achieve your goals and greater competence; you will live your dreams, but growth won't come easy. You have to fight for it - you need to go trough zones to reach the Growth Zone.
"You can justify that you are sleeping less or eating less, and motivate yourself, 'I am working really hard. I have a purpose at least in my life.' Now things are going to be easier for you in life. Now if you have a dream you will achieve it easily; now if you have a goal you will achieve it. Why? Because your personality is strong, because your mind is strong you can handle challenges." MM: How can we overcome obstacles to growth? AA: You can justify that you are sleeping less or eating less, and motivate yourself, 'I am working really hard. I have a purpose at least in my life.' Now things are going to be easier for you in life. Now if you have a dream you will achieve it easily; now if you have a goal you will achieve it. Why? Because your personality is strong, because your mind is strong you can handle challenges. If somebody would come to you and say hey listen, we can open business, you can reply confidently 'Yea, I am not scared of failing, I went trough failure, and I have tasted failure, so I am strong now.' So now you are not in your comfort zone at all. In stead you have made your circle bigger than it was. And even if you haven't slept enough, you still feel comfortable with the new challenges, because you have been trough this before. Here is your growth. What's your first hardest task in life? Let us say it is completing the school. It will be challenging if you are dealing with two things at once. So it will be difficult for you. And in stead of facing terribly challenging tasks with pessimistic attitude, saying 'why am I getting myself tired?' I will stay in the circle. I say that we need to face it, and by challenging ourself, our circle of comfort will be bigger. And then perhaps you have entered something else in your life; started another degree or you started a business and are doing it along with sports. Eventually you will not be in school for the rest of your life, you leave the school tasks behind you, and now your Comfort zone is still big but now you have only two things in it. As already you could manage three, now that you have two remaining, if a third should enter in your life, you will be ready for it since your Comfort zone has expanded. MM: How do you prepare for personal growth mentally? AA: If we take time to study our body, our mind and our system, we realize how God has made something amazing. God gave us gift , we need to use it wisely. Our mind is not something easy. Believe me, if you train your mind on anything, the mind will accomplish it. There is a quote that I say - 'If your mind can conceive it, your body can achieve it!´ After I started speaking at my University in front of a large audience, the University invited me on a field trip to the Palace of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The invited guests to the Palace in Abu Dhabi are selected as representants for a company and the University.
Some of the most acknowledged and greatest speakers, role models, scientists, athletes, presidents, were invited and held lectures at the Palace. On another occasion the University gave me a task to hold speech, because I was the host in my University, but there were important things missing in the speech papers. Did I panik? - No I contributed and continued to deliver my speech as planned. I went to the teacher, and I told them what to do and they were cheering for me and there were people saying 'you did well'. That built up, step by step my speaking skills. After this experience I took another challenge when I started my business. As the Founder and CEO of the company I came into the focus of media. Emirati TV shows wanted me to come
forward and speak about my business and its idea. So my previous speaking skills, became very important for the successful launch of my new project. And when I started to speak on television, and people recognized me, I got a lot of positive feedback. It started with one experience and now I have my TV show, where we had different episodes; one about foodies, sports, etc. MORALMODA MAGAZINE

"I STUDIED, I WORKED HARD, I LEARNED HARD, I DID A LOT IN THE PAST 10 YEARS OF EDUCATION AND LEARNING, SO NOW I CAN SHARE MY EXPERIENCE AND MAKE IT EASIER FOR YOU. I GOT IT THE HARD WAY." ABDULLA OMAR ALALI
AA: At an event in Dubai, I am invited to speak in front of excellencies, including HE Reem Al-Hashimi, Minister of State and Dir. Gen. of Dubai Expo 2020. At the International Affairs Office of the UAE Prime Minister, she is the right hand of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and maybe she notices my speech delivery and decides to invite me to deliver speech in the future at the Palace for younger students. Either way life is amazing, just work hard for it. What was my motivation? My dream was to make backflip and now backflip is easy for me. I am black belt holder in kung fu. I did 3 years of kung fu, 4 years taekwondo and 4 years jiujitsu. So far 12 years in Martial arts. I am black belt holder in taekwondo of the 2nd degree. I used to be player of taekwondo, now I am official certified taekwondo referee in the UAE. If you want it-go get it! Everyone can achieve black belt degree. Because it requires action and it takes the will. I took that action, I didn´t say I will sleep or delay in any way. My worst enemy is sleep, and my best challenger is myself. I never compare myself to people. And I give everything its attention and value. Yes I exercise 3 times daily, but when I got married I didn´t do exercise during the first period. I didn´t do it from day one because I dedicated my attention to my new family life.

MM: You are invited to speak at numerous events, which is the first speaker duty for you in the 2020s?
MM: How do you find the time during the day to maintain your body healthy and the mind, besides your business and all other obligations? AA: Sleeping is what I dislike most. If I oversleep then I think that I will miss out on something in my life. "What would sleeping do in my life?", you see how I hate sleeping. Have a time in your life when you wake up, on normal day. And wake up at 6, 6am is your deadline! You ought to wake up at six every single day, even if you slept late, you still have to wake up at six! Take it as a punishment, life is not easy. MM: That might be truly difficult, how to find balance and plan our routine? AA: Actor Dwayne Johnson said, "don´t sleep too much, sleep faster". He didn´t mean that we should restrict the quantity of sleep, in stead our sleeping quality should increase. MM: What has motivated you or challenged you? AA: When I hear the story about ill fated, who used to survive in an abandoned houses, I can't be ungrateful for my own life. I repeat often. 'Abdulla, you lived in a good home, you have your father support, you have never been bullied, what is your excuse to not to be one of top 10 motivational speakers in the world?'
And if you ask me who is my motivation? - I can reply in short that it is me. I reassure myself, ´Abdulla, you can do this.´ On the other hand, it motivates me also when someone says to me, 'you can not', I love hearing this challenge. I love when someone challanges me, that I can´t. Hearing this alerts me, it´s like an explosion and then I will prove the person wrong. Or ´Abdulla you actually don´t know´, - wait I will know! until I finish it maybe I will know in the middle, but certainly I will know in the end but I will know it. I am telling you all of this not just because of the article, when I am telling you all of this its because I want you to share it, if it can be helpful for the reader also. That would make me really happy, you see that´s why I am telling you everything. I am not saying this just to bribe. When I told you that I am always happy because I am geting tired, it means that I am happy of what I am going trough.

Never, I will even work harder, because I still didn't get to my dream goal. There is a quote that I keep repeating "whenever you feel like you want to quit, just remember why you started". I am happy because I didn't listen to people's opinions. I am really happy because I was different. I am really happy because I have a father who pushed me, I am really happy that God blessed me and took care of me and guided me onto the right path. I am blessed. I am not telling you this because I seek level of super hero, I know there are 100s or maybe 1000s of people who are better than me. But for me what I have achieved so far, and reflecting on the community and the people around me, I really feel blessed. You know at least I am thinking better, I am thinking wisely, I am not like others - I am not average, I am gifted and I want to share my gift with others, for example l did basics plan for a friend to help him get more fit, and the response was up-lifting. I studied, I worked hard, I learned hard, I did a lot of stuff in the past 10 years of education and learning, so now I can make it easy for you. I got it the hard way."
AA: Yes, that is a good question. Now what is the biggest thing that happened in the UAE for the past years? - This September the UAE has successfully launched its first astronaut Hazzaa Al Mansoori into the space. Thus Mr Al Mansoori made national history when he became the first Emirati to reach the space and conduct research at the International Space Station. This event was widely covered by media and the launch was followed by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai. But did he compromise his daily schedule for the historic space launch? When you have a big event or a big project what will you do? You will free your schedule and that´s what everyone is going to do? But not His Highness, because it took place during his sport time, do you think he would say, ´today we have big project, thus we should skip cycling today?' In stead he went out to do his exercise as planned, but he did take a break to witness the live space launch itself on his mobile, and then he continued with his own programme. That is discipline. MM: You launched a healthy food chain of restaurants in the UAE, tell us about your Emirati food chain concept; you focus here also on providing best health food options for your customers as well? AA: People who come, my customers, to my restaurant, I tell them, "to me the main reason is not to get money form you, it is to get the smile. I want you at the end of the month to be smiling, happy and proud of yourself and of what you have achieved. I don't want you to come here and pay certain amount of money, without wanting from inside to get fit or thin or your other health goal. I want you to come, show me disciplin, show me dedication, and believe me I will do everything for you to make you reach that goal." That's my main idea in my business, I want to make people's lives better, I want to make people's lives healthier. I could have opened burger restaurant. Why do I have a health restaurant chain? It is to get people's smiles. People need to start to know about their body, about their health, people need to start to get introduced to healthy life, and simple things that will help them to live better lives. In this way you will live better, avoid going to hospital and feel more happy and confident. 'Seek their hearth money will come, seek their pockets, believe me you will close your business.' ouvre Abu Dhabi hosted World's first comprehensive exhibition on the history of luxury in the world
Louvre Abu Dhabi: Running from 30 October 2019 to 18 February 2020, the "10,000 Years of Luxury" exhibition will explore the multifaceted nature of luxury from ancient times to the present day. Visitors will explore luxury through fashion, jewellery, visual art, furniture and design with masterpieces from the collections of international institutions and brands. Highlights among the 350 objects include the oldest pearl in the world, the renowned Boscoreale Treasure – one of the largest collections of silverware preserved from Roman Created by an exceptional agreement between the governments of A n t i q u i t y – a n d d r e s s e s a n d j e w e l l e r y Abu Dhabi and France, Louvre Abu Dhabi from design houses such as Cartier, was designed by Jean Nouvel and opened on Saadiyat Island in Maison Van Cleef & Arpels, CHANEL, November 2017. The museum is inspired by traditional Islamic architecture and its monumental dome creates a C h r i s t i a n D i o r , E L I E S A A B a n d Y v e s Saint Laurent. rain of light effect and has welcomed 2 million visitors since its
opening.
The exhibition opens with two landmark pieces illustrating the history of Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Pearl, the oldest pearl in the world, dating back to c. 5,800 – 5,600 BCE, discovered on Marawah Island, Abu Dhabi in 2017 and lent from the collection of Zayed National Museum; and an antique natural pearl necklace that belonged to Arab diva Umm Kulthum, loaned from the collection of Zayed National Museum. The Abu Dhabi Pearl is a proof that pearls and oysters were used in the UAE nearly 8,000 years ago and represents the earliest known evidence for pearling found anywhere in the world. Visitors will begin their journey through the history of luxury in Antiquity. Luxury objects of this time were often characterized by their rarity, precious materials or skillful production, exemplified by an Egyptian gold Necklace with Fish Pendants(ca. 1550-1069 BCE) and a skillful Cameo Depicting Tiberius and Caligula probably produced in Rome between 31-37. A variety of typical luxury objects from this time will be on display, including precious home décor as well as personal jewellery. As visitors continue their journey through time, they encounter a new definition of the notion of luxury interms of production technique, which led to a boom in the luxury market in 17th and 18th-century Paris. As a result, factories such as Meissen,Sèvres and Chantilly rose to fame and many of their exquisite productions are on display, produced around 1740 by the Meissen factory. Looking at luxury in modern times, the exhibition explores how the Industrial Revolution led to the emergence of the nouveaux riches, an elite with a more democratic access to luxury.

orld-class aesthetic dentistry in Dubai has a permanent address at Apa Aesthetic Famous for world-class hospitality, Dubai also attract the best specialists, who provide world-class care and treatments for all who seek best of the best
The internationally renowned aesthetic dentist Dr. Tarek Hafez, holds Fellow and Diplomate status from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. After completing the Advanced Comprehensive Dentistry and Advanced Implant Dentistry programs at New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD, USA), he joined NYUCD as Clinical Fellow of the Advanced Implant Dentistry programme. Dr. Hafez continues specialization in multiple dentistry fields of Aesthetics, Prosthodontics, and Implantology, he has published research articles in peer reviewed journalsand educated postgraduate students at NYUCD. His move from New York City to his newly appointed practice at the Dubai branch of internationally renowned Apa Aesthetic, for which Dr. Michael Apa personally recruited him, proved welltimed in that Dr. Hafez is here in the position to satisfy the exceptionally high demanded for aesthetic dental treatments. Together with the Apa's team, Tarek is already fixing most beautiful smiles in Dubai, where he is responsible for the smiles sported by numerous public personalities, affluent and royal clientele and many more... MM: You have worked and conducted research within your field in Cairo, New York and now Dubai. Which are the primary converging trends in oral health for these three demographics? TH: When it comes to dental health, it is safe to say that each city is very different and that falls back to dental awareness really. When there is more dental awareness within a population, there is a higher concern for healthy teeth and smile. And with that there is a relative increase in quality of dentistry. A supply and demand kind of thing. In a city like New York, there is a definite higher awareness, mostly towards general dental health. Cairo for example has a lower dental awareness and concern for dental health and in turn there is more of symptomatic treatment approach. Dubai possibly has one of the highest cosmetic demands I have seen in any city. There are more cosmetic clinics, be in dental or not. Of course with that high of a cosmetic demand there is also a higher dental awareness than surrounding countries. That is partly due to the higher number of expats living here. Which makes it an interesting and attractivecity for foreign dentists to practice in as well. MM:What attracts you to highly specialized dentistry or research? TH: I read before “there is a lot of competition in ordinary, with very little competition in extraordinary”. When you separate yourself and profession standing out in comparison to others, there is a constant need to improve. So naturally a higher level dentistry is pursued always. MM: What makes Dubai branch of Apa Aesthetic so unique? TH: Firstly, this clinic and it’s unique approach to dentistry has been at the top of the game for more than 15 years, starting in New York and now in Dubai for the last 5 years. It has a creative approach to dentistry that only members of this global team can relate to. This is a team of individual creatives that each contribute a specific aspect, be it skill, social, or artistic to the team and collectively work together to deliver excellence to our patients. Dentistry as how it truly should be. So to be recruited to join this team is an incredible feeling.
"This clinic and it’s unique approach to dentistry has been at the top of the game for more than 15 years, starting in New York and now in Dubai for the last 5 years. It has a creative approach to dentistry that only members of this global team can relate to." says Dr. Tarek Hafez
Some laboratory techniques produce stones that are virtually identical to natural stones, but sell for a fraction of the cost, said Lightbox Chief Executive Steve Coe. The market for man-made diamonds is slated to exceed $3 billion this year, up from $2 billion last year, according to diamond analyst Paul Zimnisky. That's compared to $85 billion-$88 billion for mined diamonds. Mahallati Jewellery's growth is parallel with the region's growth The company founded by the current CEO Abdul Karim Mahallati, at the young age of 16, he found a passion for diamond and gold jewellery and created a jewellery company renowned globally for the flawless craftsmanship and the impeccable beauty of its creations. Dr. Tareq is working with Dr. Apa at Apa clinic in Dubai providing all forms of treatments within aesthetic dentistry.

MM: What does aesthetics mean to you? TH: I tend to separate the words cosmetic from aesthetic, personally and professionally, let alone in the result of any dental treatment I provide. Cosmetic is like make-up, a cover up of some sort. To be aesthetic is to emulate nature. When I take that in any restorative treatment I deliver to my patients, it’s important that it feels, looks and acts natural, like how a normal tooth does. MM: What types of treatments do your clients seek? TH: Much to peoples’ surprise, for some reason, the clinic and myself, we provide general dentistry. Which makes sense as I have never heard of a clinic that only does smile makeovers with veneers. With that said, most inquiries are for smile makeover as we are famous for it. A big part of why the clinic is famous is the clientele list of celebrities, royal families in the region, artists and high positioned politicians that are exposed to the public daily and trust us to provide and deliver higher quality dental care. Be it smile makeovers or simply maintaining oral health.

MM: What advice do you always share with your patients? TH: To maintain a healthy oral environment with regular checkups throughout the year, professional cleaning with the hygienist every 3-4 months max, and of course proper oral hygiene measures at home with an electric toothbrush and daily floss. It’s important to reach a level of preventive dentistry, where by all the aforementioned we basically avoid dental issues or stop them before they increase. MM: What can your clients expect when booking an appointment at Apa Aesthetic? TH: A seamless patient centric experience that is far from the stereotypical concept of a regular dental clinic

Born in Brooklyn, Lorna Simpson came to prominence in the 1980s through her pioneering approach to conceptual photography. Simpson’s early work, and striking juxtapositions of text and staged images, raised questions about the nature of representation, identity, gender, race, and history that continue to drive the artist’s expanding and multi-disciplinary practice today. Through layering and collage, her recent paintings offer a complex treatise on time, underscoring the present’s umbilical relation to the past. 'THE ART C o l l e c t i o n 'b y Paris born artist Idriss B. creates art dreams in Dubai, with first oneof-kind art exhibition across the UAE. He admits that he has reached far, since his childhood dream to be a professional sketch maker at the Walt Disney studios in Hollywood. "I have watched Lion King, Aladdin, etc a hundred times and made thousands of drawings based on them. After that I became interested of architecture in general at high school. But I finally did a general economic and then international business studies and decided to move to Asia. It has been now 12 years that I am working with famous brands such as Dior, Lululemon, Karl Lagerfeld, De Beers, Coach etc and doing design, development and production for their stores and windows. 3 years ago I was stuck to bed during 2 months and I had a bit of time for myself I then decided to finally do my own collection of art sculptures representing animals, which is The Art Collection."
“Jeff Koons, Karl Lagerfeld, Zaha Hadid, eL Seed, Philippe Stark and Virgil Abloh. Those persons were not just artists or architects, but they changed and marked a complete art field they worked in and this is for me the biggest inspiration.” - Idriss B
Idriss B.
question! Actually, they all have a certain history and I consider them all like my babies. For some I spent more than 6 months to decide the pace and still I then remade everything from scratch as I wasn’t 1000% satisfied with the result. There is not one that I prefer the most but I just think some fits better than another in certain space. They all represent me and a mindset I have or had in my life so I do love them all."
MM: You just moved to the UAE and your art is everywhere you go! Idriss: "Things go fast and people can bet on you very fast. It looks like the old USA and the Gold Rush, kind of that feeling. I have to say it went very well and very fast, people here . like new things and if they believe in it, they will push hard on it.They are made of a mix of fiberglass and resin which give them light weight but solidity. I am actually exposed for couple of months at The Pointe in The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, but also in Zaya Nurai, Abu Dhabi and soon in Park Avenue, New York." MM: Which one is your favourite? Idriss: "That’s a good
MM: Please tell us about those pieces? Idriss: "The style itself is a mix between origami and polygon cut effect. Some other artist used this similar style (Veilhan, Orlinski, etc.)I always tried to make mines more « cut » and stronger in the feeling. I made those to represent first of all a feeling that can touch anyone. Calm, Strenght, Speed, they all talk to one or to the other. For me Art is about a feeling, an emotion. And emotion doesn't mean that you have to love it, but you will definitely leave it. It is something in our deep inside that turns on our heart. We can see ourself throughout the piece and recognize a part of us.In french we say "Tous les goûts sont dans la nature" which means that everybody likes something different, everybody got his own taste and opinion. For me those pieces are here to create an emotion and show that no matter old, young, tall or small, we can have feel the same emotion in front of art." MM: Name your Parisian highlights? Idriss: "The food, the architecture and the history. In Paris or France in general [...] everything is pushed into Art. For example the food or fashion is pushed into a level so high that I consider [it] Art. To the first time visitor to Paris I would show the Louvre with its district. It is such a beautiful mix between traditional and modern architecture." About the artist: Born and raised in Paris, Idriss has shown an interest in art since his childhood and along with his father has built a very significant personal art collection. With his considerable knowledge of new materials, combinations, etc., he made new collection by molding his vision of contemporary art to create polygonal animal forms in different sizes which he then sold to collectors as limited edition pieces. The goal is to give the possibility to everybody to own unique piece of art. His work is limited edition in the sense that every created piece is unique. (All images: courtesy Idriss B.)

MM: What inspired your new ollection? Eisa: "My inspiration has always been rooted in finding materials that are renowned for their quality and durability as well as style and timelessness. That is why the pieces that I have designed are made from Tuscan leather in addition to other high-quality materials such as marble and suede. The strength and resilience of these materials make the products extremely practical to use, not only for everyday use but also as incredible statement pieces.I’m also inspired by architecture and the constant rule that whatever the product features, it needs to serve a purpose and not only an aesthetic choice. The design process is very iterative, and I enjoy the happy accidents along the way. What I have in mind in the beginning is not always what I end up releasing and I believe that is part of the magic of product design. At the end of the day, I won’t release anything that doesn’t meet my own standards. As for reaching a segment, I haven’t focused on developing my products for a particular consumer but rather producing luxury goods that any consumer would find functional and would be proud to wear."
Emirati luxury designer Eisa Albouisi unveils an inaugural store at The Al Maryah Island
MM: Which segment of luxury consumer do you seek reach with your new product? Emirati designer Eisa Albouisi with his new luxury line of Tharb products
Eisa: "The design of Tharb leather goods encompasses a minimalist approach and are practical for travelling or simply going to the mall. My aim is for Tharb to have a global reach, spanning from the streets of Manhattan to the dunes of Abu Dhabi." MM: Which retail partners did you choose?
Eisa: "The Galleria at Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi was the ideal location for Tharb to launch its first concept store. We selected The Galleria as it is a vibrant destination for the local community and visitors alike. The Galleria offers immersive entertainment and lifestyle experiences, it is truly Abu Dhabi’s next-generation mall and now home to Tharb." MM: Tharb line is now available at Al Maryah Island? Eisa: "It is a milestone that I am privileged to have reached. I initially started Tharb due to my passion for design and the ongoing positive response is why I opened the first concept store at Al Maryah Island. Tharb is a perfect fit on Al Maryah, as it encompasses a similar model of being unique and offering originality." MM: Are your products made in UAE? Eisa: The UAE's manufacturing industry is still in a stage of growth, so there are not many luxury leather manufacturers. We were able to team up with a great company who manufactures with impeccable precision. I am honored to say all our products are made with pride in the UAE. Occasionally, I will find that the sample product is not how I imagined it to be. From a design concept to a physical sample, there are small variations that can occur. However, those variations may not be a bad thing simply because it wasn’t planned. It sometimes happens that those variations give rise to inspirations and developing new ideas, which was the case for a few unrelease items. However, I would take those unique ideas about them and apply them elsewhere." MM: What was response from clients? Eisa: I receive clients who provide their input on the products and I truly appreciate their comments because it is how we grow and expand as a company. I am also my own harshest critic and I try to imagine all possibilities for any given product. Often, I tend to have anticipated a person’s critique or comment but I eagerly welcome all feedback and thank everyone who has given me their opinions since inception." MM: What sets your luxury designs apart? Eisa: "I continuously look to combine luxury with practicality and maintain a minimalist design approach. My inspiration when designing new pieces is often derived from my own needs of wanting a piece to have enhanced usability and I go to the drawing board from there. The motivation is always about the functionality."
Artist-researcher Dr. develops World's first non-toxic paint
Impact: To manually producefrankincense-infused varnish would take days, so Salim Al-Kaabi (holds Honorary Order of Knight Officer, from Poland) developed a machine to make safe, organic varnish. Imbued with Omani frankincense in an efficient automated station, it saves time, effort, and assures quality control. he is now working to delevop same method for oil industry.

etroleum based varnish are used to protect oil paintings. It has been around for centuries; even the Ancient Egyptians used it. Without it, Mona Lisa’s smile wouldn’t be as polished as it still is. Today’s varnish however, is made up of toxic chemicals, and artists like Salim are no strangers to its harmful side-effects. Blinding headaches, drowsiness and trouble breathing are the price you pay to protect and embellish oil paintings. Being in constant contact with the liquid, Salim fell ill, “I was hospitalized due to breathing difficulties. After I recovered, I knew I had to eliminate the negative side of the one thing I love doing most, working on my art.” With a clear purpose on the horizon, Salim got to work. He wanted an environmen-tally friendly, organic varnish. Twenty experiments to him to find solution? – “Our local treasure,” as he puts it, Oman’s world-famous frankincense; a scented gum resin, neutralizes the effects of varnish.

The 13th MedaWeek in Barcelon welcomed over 20,000 attendees. Entrepreneurs and representatives of the private sector, business support organisations such as chambers of commerce and promotion agencies and political authorities meet to discussIslamic Banks in the public and private sectors of Euro-Mediterranean region. A financial system that is in full expansion, encompasses 73 countries with more than 1.600 million Muslims worldwide (23% of the world population) and covers all kinds of areas: Islamic finance, Halal food, fashion, travel, media, pharmaceutics, science, etc. In 2017 alone, Muslims spent a total of 2 billion dollars, (foods 1.3 billions, fashion and textiles 243.000 millions, and tourism 160.000 millions). It is expected that by 2022 the sector will have 3.5 billion dollars in assets.Faced with the growing threat of deceleration, and as a prevention against another possible financial crisis, Western economies find in the Islamic financial sector a model to explore with more secure and ethical financial products and instruments than those offered by traditional banking. The Arab Fashion System thrives in the creative Economy The Arab Fashion Council explained the role of the Arab Fashion System in the creative Economy, creating over 20 Million job opportunities and driving a sustainable economical-industrial era. Dut to harmful impact of plastics in the Mediterranean region and in the sea, Jacob Abrian, Founder and Chief Executive of the Arab Fashion Council, argued for urgent need to achieve a circular economic system in order to develop sustainable practices in the major Mediterranean cities and in the textile industry, as well as the support of renewable energies. Mr Abrian drew attention to the importance of the Arab Fashion Council’s mission in establishing a creative economy in the region with its influence that spread across the south Mediterranean countries including the North African Arab countries (Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco) and the Levantine coast countries (Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Jordan). While the vision of the Arab Fashion Council remains simply to establish a creative economy in the Arab region, its mission is to create an Arab Fashion System that efficiently caters the entire fashion supply chain. The general coordinator of ASCAME, Anwar Zibaoui, “More than 100 billion euros will be invested in renewable energy projects in the coming years...The annual increase in average temperature in the „Sharing Dish, Spices Fried Rice, Kaeng Phed Ped Yang, Lahsooni region is expected to go from 2.2 degrees to 5.1 by 2100. The Arab Fashion System cathegorises the Arab World in 3 main clusters set as: * North African Arab countries as the main drive to pioneer the textile industry, understanding the importance of Egypt in the production of cotton and Tunisia- the 5th textile exporter to Europe. * Levantine coast countries to pioneer the garment manufacturing. * Arab Gulf countries to pioneer the business of fashion, marketing and export. "The entire Arab Fashion System is designed to look alike the big picture of the Italian Fashion System” said Jacob Abrian, Founder and Chief Executive of the Arab Fashion Council. “The Arab Fashion System needs to be reconstructed similar to how the Italian Fashion System was reconstructed post WWII and to be prepared to harness a new economy based on the fashion sector that could”. After identifying the outlook of the supply chain in the Arab region, the Strategic Development Goals of the Arab Fashion Council relies on modernising the existing manufacturing facilities and to enable through investment new facilities to a sustainable creative economy that would be in capacity to employee over 20 million. This benefits also the European fashion industry enabling more sustainable and better logistics due to the proximity in geographical terms. Jacob Abrian argued the importance of the Arab Fashion Council’s mission to indirectly tackle the European migrant crisis. “After more than a century we still talk about the Titanic where over 1,500 people died in the maritime disaster; however, we are forgetting how many Titanics are still occurring on frequent basis in the calm water of the Mediterranean where the overall estimates are that over 22,000 migrants died between 2000 and 2014 according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). It is rather more important to think strategically on how we could limit this crisis by providing opportunities for these migrants at their countries”. Arab Fashion Coincil warns of “Green Laundering” When it comes to sustainability in fashion which is becoming the new luxury trend, Jacob Abrian, warned the industry leaders and authorities from the uprise in abusing the trend which he defined as “Green Laundering”. Accordingly, the Arab Fashion Council presented the road map on how the Arab Fashion System will be at the front line of implementing and ensuring a sustainable approach, by employing cutting-edge technology techniques including an efficient and transparent tracking system where the Arab region will not be a fertile land to the Green Laundering.

übelin has for the first time, large quantities of gemstones equipped with two innovative Provenance Proof technologies that are available in the international trade. Combining a physical tracer (Emerald Paternity Test) with a digital ledger (Provenance Proof Blockchain) offers a completely new level of transparency. Provenance Proof technologies Provenance Proof, an initiative from the Gübelin Gem Lab, and recently spun off as an independent company, has developed both the Emerald Paternity Test – deploying
physical tracers based on nano-sized tags – and the Provenance Proof Blockchain. All Provenance Proof technologies are available to the entire industry. The Provenance Proof Blockchain is a digital, tamper-proof logbook tracking the relevant data of gemstones along the supply chain, from one owner to the next. This platform is secure, easy to use, and carefully balances transparency and privacy, with access to the information on a specific gemstone (or parcel) only granted to the gemstone’s current owner. Permission-based access is granted to everyone in the entire industry, free of charge. The Provenance Proof Blockchain, a coproduction together with the tech provider Everledger, is the only existing solution in the industry. Raphael Gübelin, explains: “Each technology works perfectly on its own, but a combination of both provides even more robust transparency.”
Gemfields offers emeralds with two traceability technologies These days, significant volumes of high-quality emeralds equipped with tracing and tracking technologies from Provenance Proof are entering the global supply chain. Once again, the mining company Gemfields is spearheading the industry by equipping its high-quality emeralds with the Emerald Paternity Test, and putting them on the Provenance Proof Blockchain. During the latest Gemfields auctions in Singapore, more than 13 kilogrammes of these top-quality gemstones were successfully sold to the invited buyers. More transparency in the trade This was the first time that several thousand high-quality gemstones containing both Provenance Proof traceability technologies have entered the supply chain at once. Soon, these gemstones will become available to jewellery brands and retailers, offering an unprecedented level of transparency into the journey of a gemstone, and opening new ways of customized storytelling to retailers. This creates an entirely new level of digitally recorded, provable transparency within the gemstone industry. The end consumer, like any other stakeholder along the supply chain, can now read the entire story from the mine onwards with few clicks. Adrian Banks, Managing Director of Product & Sales at Gemfields, states: “Consumers are increasingly interested in the origin of their gems and how they can be responsibly mined to have a positive impact on the countries they are from.” This supply of a large number of high-end gemstones offering true, verifiable transparency is an important step forward towards a more transparent supply chain. Brands, jewellery manufacturers and retailers can now request such traceable gemstones. The webpage www.provenanceproof.io provides a directory listing the companies making use of Provenance Proof technologies. This billboard helps all industry stakeholders in their search for traceable gemstones.
