Watchmakers have in their unprecedented quest to produce the world’s most accurate fine watches, let's say, pushed the limits and experimented with this groundbreaking innovation by Breguet, which came to life in Switzerland, right after the French Revolution. It is exciting to reflect on the future of the watchmaking for the next two centuries, Geneva Watch Days, Only Watch charity auction are all good indicators of the future of this field. I would not miss to prepare coverage again from these events for all readers. This important and large-size Geneva Observatory 1st Prize winning tourbillon is not only in exceptional condition and one of the finest high-precision Patek Philippe watches, it is also possibly unique in retaining both its original gold case and white enamel Breguet numeral dial and, in addition, its original antimagnetic observatory contest case and original contest silver sector dial.

To the best of our knowledge, no other Patek Philippe observatory chronometer in private hands is known publicly with both cases and both dials surviving intact.

Christie’s is proud to present The Triazza Collection - an unprecedented collection of five exceptional, rare, and important Patek Philippe timepieces manufactured from 1924 – 1987, astutely acquired by a prominent private Asian collector.

The non-selling exhibition will offer watch lovers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to appreciate the exceptionally rare and beautiful vintage treasures by Patek, which encompass a possibly one and only large-size Geneva Observatory 1st Prize winning tourbillon ref. 2330 with both cases and both dials surviving intact, made in 1924; the Esmond Bradley Martin ref. 605 HU one of dozen cloisonné dial ‘North America’ manufactured in 1950 (below); one of only three Patek Philippe ref. 2523 in

The fall season's first online auction

the Dubai Edit passed the USD 10M mark once again Solid follow-through after strong online sale in spring - USD 14m (vs USD 2.5m in 2013), the Dubai sale from 13-27th October, had the highest number of registrants from all parts of the world recorded for a Christie’s online sale since January 2020. Dubai’s online strong performance this Fall, especially after the strong results achieved in April, clearly indicates a gravitational shift. The top lot of this online auction was Patek Philippe Ref. 1518, a gold perpetual calendar chronograph that was the first perpetual chronograph to be made in series by any watch company - only 281 examples of this reference were ever made and this particular example comes in 18K yellow gold and was produced in 1945 - achieved online USD 437,500 (Est. The GPHG celebrates two decades of "the Himalayas of Horology" Award winning watches, exhibited in Dubai, Geneva and St. Petersburg.

his year some of the most beautiful watchmaking Maisons competed at the 21st edition of GPHG with 84 models nominated across 14 categories.

The nominated novelties represent fine Swiss watchmaking at its best over the past year.

We have featured the most striking new timepieces throughout the year, so I wish to highlight the further awarded models.

Driven by his thirst for timekeeping research and his creative needs, FrançoisPaul Journe added in 2004 a dead-beat second to the Remontoir d’Egalité.

This complication, representing a unique feature on a contemporary wristwatch, provides a more accurate read-off of time. The French term "seconde morte", called dead-beat seconds, stems from the fact that the hand remains motionless ("dead") for as long as the second has not actually elapsed. The hand thus indicates the second once it has actually gone past.

The dial features the distinctive identity of the F.P. Journe chronometers with the white or 6N gold dial and guilloché Silver hours, minutes and seconds subdials held on the watch face thanks to a Steel frame (a patented feature).

The 42-hour power-reserve indication at 12 o'clock perfectly counter-balances the independent seconds display at 6 o'clock.

"The Himalaya of Horology" Just two years later the brand takes another Aiguille d'Or with exceptional Grande Sonnerie watch with Minute Repeater, aka The Himalaya of Horology.

It features full grand-strike functionality and operational safety protected by 10 patents. The Grande Sonnerie watch with Minute Repeater is the most complex of horological creations, one that demands the very utmost in both technical and artistic virtuosity for the watchmaker in charge of its assembly.

The most awarded celebrated brand(s) On the occasion of its 21st edition the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) is bringing together for the first time the watches that have won the “Aiguille d'Or” best-in-show award since the GPHG was created two decades ago.

Among the twenty exceptional timepieces testifying to the excellence of contemporary watchmaking, presented at the Rath Museum in Geneva from October 23 to November 14, there is only one brand so far to be presented with the desired “Aiguille d’Or” award three times, and the brand's journey is also parallel with the GPHG, being created just couple years earlier by François-Paul Journe, who launched his F.P.Journe fine watch brand The GPHG is jury seemed more impresses by a few-year-old brand more frequently than much of century old Houses' models.

Because of their shortterm, these loans are commonly referred to as bridge loans, and we are one of few national platforms that operate within the small balance space, i.e. loans of $1-15mio USD loan sizes.

We have done a number of properties and projects with an emphasis on the social aspect in terms of rehabilitating properties, typically in multifamily, and those properties are then occupied by low income renters in underserved communities within the US. We have done a number of projects in the Washington D.C. and Chicago area, and we are working to continue to expand into other markets as well.

The interview took place at the polo tournament with players from abroad and the UAE. Liliya Tippetts: Polo is one of the most elegant and noble sport disciplines worldwide, and your passion for this sport is evident at so many levels, how did you get involved in polo?

Rashid Khalaf Al Habtoor: Polo is one of the most beautiful sports. I have been playing polo for the last 30 years all over the world. I have been invited to play in Miami, Spain, UK where I participated in high goal tournaments. And of course, I have been playing with Rommy (ed. Gianni) for many years, including at the polo fields in St-Tropez, Spain, and here in Dubai. I look forward to playing with him in many other polo destinations.

are only two places in the world that are important for polo. They are Miami, Florida and Dubai. Right now these are the best places to come and play polo in the world.

We have played polo here in Dubai for 10 years. And for the next year we plan something bigger, including a polo tournament with the Monte-Carlo Polo Team.

L. T.: When does the Polo season begin in Dubai and when does it usually end?

R. H.: Dubai is very big and attracts more and more polo fans. At this time of the year, from January to March there

Since 2008, these awards in the sectors of Water, Biodiversity and Climate Change have paid tribute to leading figures and organizations for their deep commitment to preserving our planet.

The ceremony was followed by the attribution of grants to IPCC students in support of their research on climate change and living soils.

tanley Johnson, who served as Member of the European Parliament talks to Dr Yana Leonova during his visit to Dubai for the grand inauguration of the state-of-the-art Global Banking School (GBS).

Dr Yana Leonova: You have just landed in Dubai after attending the COP26 summit in Glasgow, what reflections have you from this forum?

Stanley Johnson: As I write, the negotiators in Glasgow are going over the final text which should be the outcome of the conference. It is too early to say at this point what the overall conclusions will be but I’m sure there has been progress.

There has been an important declaration by almost 100 countries about the need to preserve forests. There has also been an agreement by many countries about the need to cut back on emissions of methane by 2030. We do not yet know whether the goal of “keeping 1.5 C alive” will be approved nor whether the conference will urge countries to meet that goal as soon as possible. In any case there will be work to be done. It has already been decided that COP 27 in 2022 will take place in Egypt and COP 28 in 2023 in the UAE. At both forthcoming events the CRPs will be extremely important in terms of wrapping up business which may not have been concluded at COP 26 and for reexamining some of the emission reduction programs which have been put forward in Glasgow with a view to tightening them up.

Of course, COP 28 being already decided forward for the UAE is extremely significant and I imagine that even now the UAE authorities will be making their plans.

Dr Leonova: You are promoting education about climate change, what is the key point that people should learn about the climate change?

S. J.: I think people should be approaching the subject of

climate change in an optimistic way. It is possible for us to meet the challenge. The technology exists. The instruments of policy exist. What we need is political will and that of course includes the political will to deliver resources to the developing countries to enable them to carry out their programs of mitigation and adaptation.

Dr Leonova: How can sustainable policies be improved in order to help individuals to make sustainable choices in their everyday lives?

S. J.: I am absolutely delighted to have been invited to come to Dubai this week, in my capacity as chairman of the advisory board of the global banking school and global education.

I am convinced that the banking and financial sector has tremendous potential to shape the investments of the private sector in the fight to achieve net zero as quickly as possible and we should never underestimate the progress that can be made with determination and insight.

Of course there must also be a willingness on the part of ordinary citizens to move in the direction of sustainable development, whether that is in their consumption patterns or their production patterns.

I think we will look forward over the next few years to a significant change in diet, for example, enabling the transformation of agriculture which is so desperately needed to go ahead at all speed. We must also look for transformations as far as energy production and transport is concerned but here too I am convinced that technical developments for example the photo voltaiccell, and further progress with batteries and electric cars will have a transformative effect, stanleyjohnson.org.

Liliya Tippetts: Tell us please what is your connection to Monaco and how much time do you spend in the Principality each year?

Max Berin: Monaco has a very special atmosphere. On the one hand the Principality is an international events venue and is open to the world, but on the other hand it is a small and protected country. The history, traditions and hierarchy are highly respected.

I am a resident of Monaco. I also have a professional association with Monaco. We work closely with the SBM Group and every summer we organise a festival at MonteCarlo Sporting. Monaco is an international city. Every year we invite top artists from all over the world.

L. T.: You split your time between Monaco and other major art destinations, but what do you perceive Monaco has to offer for art lovers?

M. Berin: I would say the place has an amazing mix of classical art and contemporary influences. The Monte Carlo Opera, where Sergei Diaghilev's ballet troupes danced in the Garnier Hall, and the Oceanographic Museum, whose collection was carefully collected by Prince Albert I and Jacques-Yves Cousteau are a tribute to history and heritage preserved for generations.

At the same time, the Principality «breathes» the latest trends. Here you will find a great number of galleries offering contemporary art, the most fashionable artists and sculptors and dozens of shows and concerts every month.

L. T.: Dubai is another major destination where you have large events, how do you perceive the development of the art and cultural scene in Dubai?

M. Berin: Dubai is now becoming the centre of attraction not only for tourists but also for the business elite. Nothing is impossible in this city! For several years in a row we have successfully organized the BIG ART FESTIVAL, which takes place in locations iconic to the UAE: the legendary Burj Al Arab, at the foot of the Burj Khalifa Tower. What sets the concerts in Dubai apart from European shows is the scale and oriental luxury of the shows that we organise there from the January to March.

L. T.: After founding your own agency in 2005, you have successfully promoted tsymphonic orchestra, organised the International Music Festival of Yuri Bashmet. Today, your Berin Iglesias Art enterprise involves many fields, and within the art scene you have specialized in major concerts, festivals, ballet galas and working with such prominent artists like Jose Carreras, Robbie Williams, Andrea Bocelli, Denis Matsuev, Julio Iglesias, Enrique Iglesias, Diana Krall, Roxette, Mariah Carey, Sir Elton John, Antonio Banderas, Carla Bruni, al Jarreau and others, which is your most memorable collaboration?

M. Berin: In 20 years we have worked with hundreds of top artists. The most memorable collaboration was with Elton John. He is truly a great musician with incredible charisma, a legend of our time. Despite his age he always remains Sir Elton John, and is still incredibly popular.

L. T.: What is the main criteria for you when launching new performances with star artists and collaboration between the local venue and Berin Iglesias Art? M. Berin: For us it's not only understanding the latest musical trends, but also respecting the local culture. We always try to listen to the audience, the interaction between an audience and the artist during a show is key.

L. T.: The international audiences have been left without many options to attend major high quality art performances in London, New York, Paris, Moscow, Dubai, Monaco. Still you have successfully held with Berin Iglesias Art large scale performances despite the restrictions and with a tremendous interest. What was the most challenging when organising concerts in pandemic and what has been the rewarding point?

M. Berin: One of the first things that started to get stuck and stopped was the entertainment industry. Many companies around the world went bankrupt and closed down. Like the rest of the world we had to pause, but nevertheless in both 20 and 21 years we did not close a single office. The full team was always ready to create events at the highest level. We managed to successfully get started as one of the first to do so. In 2019 we organised around 250 events, in 2020 50 in 2021 around 100. People, of course, are immensely grateful and miss going out, socialising, having fun, relaxing and dancing.

L. T.: You have triumphed at the most important concert halls from New York to Dubai, which is a highlight?

M. Berin: My favourite is the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Just to touch the walls of that hall is something magical, unbelievable.

L. T.: Do you have a favourite composer?

M. Berin: I'm a child of the USSR, coming out of that period. I was born in Minsk, I can say that Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky give an answer to my soul. They are the brightest representatives of Russian classical music, composers who really reveal the soul of Russians.

L. T.: And do you have favourite artists or art movements?

M. Berin: The singer that I was and am incredibly fond of from my childhood and my youth is Julio Iglesias. It is incredible that after so many years I managed to make friends and work with this legendary artist. Of the Russian artists Valery Meladze is one of them.

L. T.: Can you unveil to readers the next planned events for 2021/2022 or who are the star artist/s?

M. Berin: We had a huge success with Anna Netrebko's jubilee concert at the State Kremlin Palace in Moscow in September this year. In July/August - series of summer festivals: BIG ART FESTIVAL in Italy, Forte dei Marmi at the Villa, Andrea Bocelli, and summer concerts at the Monte-Carlo Sporting.

Anna Netrebko's big tour in Russia has now started. We have several concerts planned in Europe for October.

Denis Matsuev's major European tour in Germany and the Czech Republic. Concerts by the young mega-talented Latin singer Camilo in Berlin, Paris, London and Zurich.

The BIG ART FESTIVAL will take place in Dubai on November 2nd and 5th. We decided to invite the legends of the Russian pop scene on one stage: the band Ruki Vverh and Studio, Grigoriy Leps and Ani Lorak.

The New Year's Eve events will be traditionally held again in Dubai and Courchevel.

Mauro Perucchetti returns to St.Moritz with his new solo exhibition of the exceptional SUPERFICI series at Galerie 10

London-based artist Mauro Perucchetti is renowned for his abstract paintings, sculptures and contributions to the important discourse on ethics and social change, his artworks and the theme of his subject-both are woven into the fabric of his adaptive country’s cultural ethos.

In 2020 Perucchetti gave an interview on his Jelly Babies series that he started to make in 1999. In this interview we asked the artist about his charity work and returning to St. Moritz with new exhibition after the successful summer presentation of his UNICUM series at Bulgari St. Moritz.

MM: What is the main inspiration behind the new SUPERFICI series, where each artwork seems to be defined by carefully selected colour scheme, and what is the advantage of the unique material used on SUPERFICI series?

Mauro Perucchetti: The materials I use on SUPERFICI are, like in most of my work, very idiosyncratic. You could say that is like mixing oil and water, but making it work in synchrony, a perfect analogy for what occurs in nature all the time. As it often happens on earth, from one natural phenomenon to another new life emerges.

MM: How long have you been working on your SUPERFICI series and what is the definition of the artworks, they resemble the format of paintings but are executed as a sculpture?

M. P.: I have been working on SUPERFICI since the very start of the Covid pandemic, maybe a subconscious reaction to missing nature and its colours.

I also saw an analogy between what is happening to the population and what is happening to the earth, with the difference that, in the latter, we are the virus. I want to raise awareness on climate change.

MM: This fall, you donate your art to different charity projects, what is the most recent charity project that you have selected to participate in and which message does it seek to emit to the public.

M. P.: I am in the middle of three charity projects as we speak.

One is the Well Child charity for children with serious health needs and their families.

Another is the Tusk lion trail Charity which is involved in saving the lions (yes, the lions are endangered too) through selling carbon offsets to businesses to offset their carbon production which in term finances the regeneration of natural habitats including the lions.

The last one is with the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) and is specifically targeted at saving the tigers and the TigerTrail is launching at the National Gallery of Singapore2022.

All these are made possible by the phenomenal work of curator Chris Westbrook, who is also in direct contact with all the international artists who are involved in raising funds for these charities through auctioning their artworks at Christie’s, Artsy and Bonham’s.

MM: How important is it for you personally to support philanthropic projects?

M. P.: I said it at the top: empathy and collaboration are not

preferable by default. This brings another problem into the light: too many people want to go and live in other countries, but they do not respect the ways of their people. We are opening a Pandora box that would require much more space than what we have here to debate.

Since the ‘60s people have made giant strides in terms of liberalism and human rights, but so much more work needs to be done. How many BLACK LIVES MATTER moments have we had in history and, yet again, the problem is still there, with even more SHADES OF COLOUR to keep us apart. This is why we all need to work together on this. My Jelly Baby Family (series) are my ambassadors.

only good attributes, but are essential for the world to carry on. I feel responsible and obliged to do my bit, no matter how little it is. I love you world and I really f… in mean it.

MM: Being born in Milan, and now based in London for decades, you not only study multiculturalism as it presents itself nowadays in society, but also contribute to the discourse on the topic with your installations as they are displayed currently across the world.

How would you define the development of multiculturalism in the society, seen in the light of recent events over the past couple of years?

M. P.: Multiculturalism has always been a hard nut to crack.

From the beginning people have been suspicious and apprehensive about humans from other areas, let alone other countries, which only happened much later when transportation evolved.

All societies have good and bad people. Respect, consideration and empathy are a good start for a better world and multiculturalism. Greed, religion and bigotry have the opposite effect.

Considering the fact that the world is getting full to maximum capacity and we are all basically rubbing elbows with each other, it goes without saying that the first option would be

MM: What are your future plans for new art exhibitions?

M. P.: I wish I could answer that question. At the moment I am still wrapped up with getting this project off the ground and out there.

SUPERFICI is in its infancy, I feel there is still a lot that can be done and can evolve from this initial effort.

A New Exotic World

In search of the meaning of man’s natural instinct, torn between the actual frustrated desire to explore the New and the discovery of his ancient roots, between the fantasy of untouched worlds and the fear of the “other”.

To address the question of the “exotic” requires a relativistic framework: what is exotic for one person will be much less so for another. “One man’s meat is another man’s poison”, British reinterpretation of French writer Montaigne “Vérité en-deçà des Pyrénées, erreur au-delà” to express clearly what relativism is. In times of humanitarian crisis and predictable afghan future migrations under the Taliban regime, the mere concept of relativism is truer than ever.

Modern multimedia tools like Photoshop and the revolutionary Instagram network make all the data, particularities and fields of expression accessible, plethoric and mutable.

In this “virtual” paradise where the winds of globalization reign supreme and the canon of Beauty seems unique, how is it possible to protect the secret garden of one’s exotic dream?

The quest for the exotic There was a time long ago when everything was exotic, starting with the etymology itself of the word “exoticism”: from Late Greek exô “outside,” exóticos “foreigner, outsider”.

From the caravel expeditions of Vasco de Gama to India with unpredictable maps, to the work of Galileo on the roundness of our planet, nothing new was discovered, for Eratosthenes had already shown in ancient times how our planet is round; all this cultural heritage takes on strongly exotic tones at a time when one moves from one place to another and already one planet to another, in an instant.

But the quest for the exotic nevertheless remains a constant factor in the human psyche, the natural disposition of man to open up to the outside world can easily be seen as the search for a very rare bird indeed, for everything seems to have been said, written or shown in this matter.

A modern invitation to a hybrid, metamorphic, virtual interpretation of the world would strongly suggest that the exotic is not a dried-up stream.

The canons of feminine beauty have strangely evolved through the Instagram diktats to a kind of Kim Kardashian standard which has nothing to do with the classical Florentine beauty of a Botticelli painting, Simonetta Vespucci, his muse which has never used plastic surgery subterfuge. At that time Beauty was directly connected with divine essence and virtues belonging to one’s interior life. Even the stars of the seventies were beautiful by nature, if you think of Brigitte Bardot, Ursula Andress or Romy Schneider…

In that sense, they had more merit to be considered beauty icons.

A few women follow nowdays this trend; the ones who decide not to collaborate with the Instagram system and the fashion trend to be rebuilt finding thus relevant to re-interpret personally natural creation.

A few ones still think that Interiority is more valuable than tacky arrogant exteriority. These natural beauties are priceless, ageless and belong to the Eternal Femininity.

Beauty now is mainly materialistic and opens the possibility to become rich without any other relevant quality. That is the reason why the vulgar majority wants to be beautiful at all costs.

Underpinning new authenticity through the extern origin Returning to Exoticism quest, it is mostly interested in opening a dreamlike dimension embodied by this “elsewhere” that allows one to escape from a down-to-earth reality to ascend to the hypothetical unknown, an improbable and wonderful world in which fragility itself seems a dream and its very nature is wounded by the awakening that brings it to an end.

But beyond the fragility that gives it an aristocratic and secondary dimension, the exotic approach is characterized by its ubiquity in the most differing fields of expression: intellectual, with Claude Levy Strauss, the West enters an anthropological culture of which the Museum of Primitive Arts is one of the avatars; artistic with an Orientalism that is confined and romantic in the nineteenth century in Lewis or Gérôme and in today’s cross-pollination from an aesthetic point of view, we are thinking of an artist like Basquiat from the metropolitan culture of graffiti and slums; literary with the “Persian Letters” of Montesquieu or the telling of the “Thousand and One Nights” or, even more sensual, with the appetite for travel that our modern society must satisfy. Similarly, eroticism is all over the place in advertising and, as a single pseudo model, it enters the primitive exotic quest.

Fashion is not immune to the temptation of the exotic. Houses like Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Saint Laurent and lastly Lacroix take part in this adventure. In Italy this quest of exoticism finds echo with talented art director Alessandro de Michele from Gucci. Hermès as a reference to Hermes Trismegistus, Mercury, deity of travel, Saint Laurent with his choice of colored models in the 70s and his taste for Marrakech, Vuitton as luggage-maker to maharajahs, Christian Lacroix with his taste for the Camargue, Gypsies and nearby Spain.

The journey is a leitmotiv of the exotic dialectic: a journey through new places, new spaces, but also an inner journey that takes on the value of a pilgrimage and spiritual quest, as in “The Alchemist,” by Paolo Coelho. Migration, ease of travel and the cosmopolitanism of large cities like London are per se an exotic opening between peoples’ metissage and communities.

The enthusiasm for chefs shows the opening up to new lifestyles and ways.

Thus, coming close to the colors attributed to the exotic, their profuse exuberance invites us to return again to a Paradise Lost of a Gauguin, a Rousseau or a Matisse with just time enough for an exotic dream.

This is the second solo Berlin exhibition by Refik Anadol (b. 1985, Istanbul), the director of Refik Anadol Studio in LA. Since 2008, his works have explored the space among digital and physical entities by creating a symbiotic relationship between architecture, science, technology, and media arts.

Anadol is a pioneer in the world of rare digital art and crypto collectibles, minting the first fully immersive digital artwork NFT in September 2021.

Anadol debuts the city's first public NFT artwork 'NAVE MACHINE HALLUCINATIONS: NATURE DREAMS' is designed specifically for KÖNIG GALERIE, and comprises 3 novel aesthetic approaches to a vast photographic dataset of nature: a giant data sculpture displaying machine-generated, dynamic pigments of nature titled NATURE DREAMS; four new series of data paintings; and WINDS OF BERLIN, a site-specific, public art projection on the tower of ST. AGNES. This marks the first time a generative public artwork in Berlin to be offered in NFT form.

Coining the terms “data painting” and “latent cinema”, he invites the audience to imagine alternative and dynamic realities by re-defining the functionalities of both interior and exterior architectural elements, koeniggalerie.com.

This winter season, Hauser & Wirth brings the work of Günther Förg (1952 – 2013), one of the most significant post-war German artists, to Los Angeles and Gstaad. The presentation in Tarmak22 Gstaad focuses on the later years of Förg’s artistic production and draws on the relationship between works spanning from 1997-'09.

On view are photographs, acrylic paintings, and works on paper, bringing together the various aspects of the artist’s multidisciplinary practice. Taken in the Swiss alps in the winter of 1997, the photographs in the exhibition depict landscapes covered in snow and were the source of inspiration for Förg’s series ‘mostly landscapes’, created more than a decade later in 2009, and are presented side-by-side for the first time in this exhibition.

‘Mostly Landscapes’ at Tarmak22 coincides with ‘Günther Förg.

Appearance’ at Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles, the first solo exhibition of the artist in Los Angeles.

Throughout his life, Förg moved between different materials in a series of sustained investigations, with one body of work influencing the next. Often these works were issued from the need to symbolize the political power and European hegemony of the Court of Lorenzo de Medici. In the bosom of this humanist cultural environment beyond the political goals of the Medici family.

The artists from Florentine Renaissance and especially Botticelli expressed the search for an Aesthetic in the Hellenistic sense of the term, driven by an insatiable yearning for Beauty, Beauty which often, as in Plato, is but the harmonious metamorphosis of Good and the spiritual values that accompany it.

During Lorenzo de Medici’s reign, the flowering of the Arts elevated Florence to the rank of artistic capital of Europe if the reader can receive this anachronism about the new European concept. This position of predominance confirmed the power and influence of the Medici on the other European courts. The French Renaissance, which appeared a century later, under the impulse of King François Ist, merely adopted the principle artistic currents of the Florentine Quattrocento. Within the sphere of this Florentine crucible which provided a nourishing ground for both the Arts & Sciences, man was revalorized and located at the epicenter of the creative process. Defender of the City, he was glorified for his earthly abilities. political and cultural context of the period.

Man constituted the essential topos in a syncretism that mixed the ancient pagan myths of Antiquity with Christian fervor.

The renewed interest for the works of Dante, Percara and Boccaccio and for the biographies of illustrious men presume that figurative art itself represented and exalted the most well-known and exemplary historical figures. As a result, man and the cult of his image were glorified. A century later, in 1584, Lomazza wrote: "The custom of representing men goes back to a long time and the Florentine tradition from the time of Giotto makes one proud to be part of it with an expressive desire for reality."

According to Dei, the decade of 1470 belonged to a serene context in which “bread, wine and oil are abundant as peace”. The territory of Bella Firenze was vast and extended from the port of Pisa to the West where the Arno joins the Sea as far as Montepulciano to the South.

The hegemony of the Medici family was based on a banking system of the highest order and a fruitful international commerce.

Canon of beauty A similar economic prosperity vitalized the explosion of the Arts. Thus, Dei describes the Florentines as beautiful, prosperous and admired by the other Italian populations.

Beauty itself is the prerogative of absolute riches, but according to Leonardo’s remark “Virtutem forma decorat”, even appearance became the earthly and physical manifestation of a celestial and spiritual dimension.

The ideal of Florentine Feminine Beauty can be seen in enchanting Madonnas like the Ruskin Madonna by Andrea del Verrochio or other ladies “full of Grace” like Sandro Botticelli’s Judith.

A canon of ideal beauty was confirmed: fine lips, straight nose, faint eyebrows, blond hair and complex hairstyles adorned with strings of pearls. Leonardo da Vinci theorized that in portraiture, figures should be “elegant and slender’ with muscles that are in proportion.

The feminine portraits of Antonio and Pietro Pollaialo like Sandro Botticelli’s Venus and Mars employ the feminine profile free from direct contact from the viewer which provide to the Ladies represented a superior, detached and hieratical dimension, isolating thus women from common mortals.

On the other hand, men assume a frontal martian position that accentuates the

masculine and earthly character of Botticelli’s portrait of Giulianio de Medici for example.

The portrait in profile were undoubtedly inspired by ancient medallions. In Florence, this type of representation symbolized virtues and moral qualities.

Botticelli, Artist & Designer’s exhibition gives an original testimony to the complexity of the Florentine Soul whose roots come from Etruscan Civilization.

The Florentine Spirit is refined, political, proud, lover of women and avid admirer of Beauty but also savvy enough to understand 4.the spiritual transcendence that this last category imposes, to be relevant and acceptable.

The gallery's second exhibition ensures a highly relevant thematic continuity from the previous show, by curating new paintings from Ackermann's Mama series at the brand new location in the heart of Monaco. The show opens on 8 October and will run until 23 December.

The exhibition consists of paintings on canvas which reveal her persisting interrogation of line, colour and form. In Ackermann’s new suite of Mama paintings, repeated imagery is often combined with vivid swathes of colour, giving her work an enigmatic visual component that oscillates between abstraction and figuration.

In Ackermann’s newsuite of Mama paintings, repeated imagery is often combined with vivid swathes of colour, giving her work an enigmatic visual component that oscillates between abstraction and figuration.

Works in the exhibition including ‘Mama, Monte Carlo’ (2021) and ‘Mama, How can you see someone’s soul?’ (2021) depict figures and motifs that rise to the surface of canvas, only to dissolve and reappear elsewhere again. Lying beneath layers of oil paint are drawings in china marker or ink that are left obscured. Thick layers of impasto and oil are also vigorously applied and scraped in such works, culminating in a layering effect that is often created by chance instances and combinations of accidental gestures.

Some drawn forms are disrupted by bursts

of colour or are incessantly scraped away with finger marks until they’re gone, exemplified in works such as ‘Mama, Yves’s Mask’ (2021) or ‘Mama, the Knight of the Cave’ (2021).

Mama series, simplicity and sincerity Ackermann’s approach of layering and visible complexity makes the works ultimately unknowable, eluding any efforts to be read as stories. The radical indeterminacy of the works is what makes them living. Ackermann says of her works: ‘As soon as an image becomes clear or readable, in the very same moment it loses its own meaning in another form.'

pioneers in the development of discussions around identity, gender, and the body in 20th and 21st century art.

‘Maria Lassnig & Cindy Sherman’ takes as its point of departure the 1983 presentation ‘Selbstdarstel-lungen (Selfportrayals)’ at Berlin’s Haus am Waldsee, where the artists were exhibited in two separate shows under the same title, although they seemingly had little in common at the time.

A crucial difference between the work of Lassnig and Sherman is their relationship to self-portraiture. For Lassnig, the self-portrait is central to her work; while for Sherman, it runs counter to the conventional understanding of the self-portrait, radically questioning and disposing of it. Victoria’s figurative as well as abstract artworks explore the humans’ social boundaries along with personal ones, engaging concepts of trance, subconsciousness, sexuality, mystics and symbolism; while different media (acrylics, markers, collage, ink, etc.) used in her practice allow Victoria to create multidimensional textured original artworks with strong emotional vibes influencing the audience in positive ways, supplying with energy and inspiration.

The Artist: Rawkan

ecently the Saudi artist Rawkan also known under his artist name b i n b e ll a, attended the Cannes Film Festival where he met Moralmoda for an interview.

Growing up in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia while living in an American compound, Aramco, was a blessing for b i n b e ll a the Saudi artist and renowned actor for his lead role as king Abdul Aziz in 'Born a king'. He humbly describes his upbringing as being surrounded by people from all walks of life, "It was a melting pot of cultures and from a very young age I was exposed to all types of people, accepting everyone as they are."

While in LA, it enabled him to discover all his talents as an artist from Film to Music and also Fashion, at a time where those things weren’t highly regarded in the kingdom. Fast forward a few years later and he is now celebrated for all his endeavors, as the significance of art and culture is on the rise globally, and KSA is one of leading countries today participating in this cultural development.

He reflects that being an engineer today is a large part of identity, and that as an artist he uses those skills to advantage. This he argues has, "enhanced both sides of brain, the creative and the logical part to be able to imagine also execute creative projects."

In his pursuit for higher education, he moved to Boston where he obtained his Bachelor’s and double Master’s degrees in Industrial Engineering and Global Supply Chain Management at Northeastern University. This further lead the young intellect yet still artist at heart to LA, where he was mostly focused on advancing academically in health studies and subsequently obtained a certificate in Postural Alignment therapy and Structural Integration, his ambition came from healing himself from the two failed hip surgeries and a hernia tear he battled with during college. Although he spent several semesters between wheelchairs and crutches, he still graduated with flying colors.

Piaget’s record breaking ultra-thin timepieces This in-house research accelerated from the late 1950s. From this period, the Piaget archives hold record-breaking ultra-thin movements featured in models like 'Ultra-thin Watch', (which was exhibited as a part of the recent Patrimony Exhibitions at Piaget boutiques in Geneva and Zurich). The brand’s first record is on the development of the 12P movement which incarnates the first generation of Piaget automatic movements. Launched in 1960, the 12P movement was the thinnest automatic movement in the world of its time: 2.3 mm thick.

To reach further on this road in 2021, Piaget turns to skeletonization of the new Polo watch, shaving all unnecessary parts and material from its dial. Skeleton is not always the first choice for a sport watch but it makes sense in terms of wearability and the final visual result. Not having seen watches in person one can imagine that readability against skeleton dial is not impaired even for dials that are coloured. ‘Satawa 3000’ DIY Rebrand by Metastoric brings together the work of the renowned Swiss art duo named Satawa 3000, at Foundry Gallery Downtown Dubai, 17 January 2022 to 28 February 2022

The Foundry Gallery features a Metastoric exhibition with innovative local and international artists this season. Art guests are invited to experience contemporary and NFT artworks from artists working and based in the Emirates and Gulf countries. Producers Jodie Marie Rigby and Lucy Brattan (image right) are the creative duo behind the exhibition in Downtown Dubai.

Jodie Rigby is the Co-founder of NFT Production house and Meta art Fund for impact METASTORIC. Christie's Geneva sale on Tue 9 November had extremely rare royal jewellery owned by France's last Queen Marie Antoinette (top left) and Wallis Simpson the Duchess of Windsor (top right).

Marie Antoinette's pair of diamond bracelets were hidden once she was taken prisoner in Paris and only resurfaced after she was beheaded. Meanwhile, Wallis Simpson's bracelet reappears at auction for the first time since the 1987 'Jewels of the Duchess of Windsor' auction of her collection which fetched $50m, setting a new record at the time as the most pricey auction of a single-owner jewellery collection.

From Gübelin Jewellery atelier in Lucerne Skilled goldsmiths, gem setters and polishers spent over 500 hours working on this haute joaillerie necklace, created in the companyʼs own Gübelin Jewellery atelier in Lucerne.

Dancing Dunes design is based on dunescapes in Lençóis Maranhenses. Set with 75 Brazilian emeralds (21.18 ct), along with white brilliant cut diamonds weighing a combined 6.98 ct. the sparkling emeralds in a sophisticated mix of cuts link the two rows of diamonds in the necklace.

The cabochon-cut emeralds, step-cut emeralds and round, faceted emeralds chosen for this necklace are amazingly varied but share one thing in common: they were all sourced from the same mine in Brazil. The diamonds, precious metals are from RJC-certified sources too.

Gübelin's superior transparency Thanks to the Emerald Paternity Test, it can be determined that the 4.11 ct emerald was mined at Belmont in Itabira, Minas Gerais.

While nanolabels invisible to optical microscopes have been applied to the emerald crystal in order to offer more transparency regarding its origin, gubelin.com.

As a mother, she is pleased to be sharing these values of philanthropy with her teenage daughter, Anastasia. She feels it is her duty to instill these ideals with Anastasia, who during the event, presented an auction lot on behalf of the Antropov Foundation. The motherdaughter duo are delighted to be supporting the Caudwell Children Foundation and children with disabilities this year through the Butterfly Ball.

Overflowing with creativity, Ms. Antropova is an artist, photographer, and a muse. She was recently chosen as the face of timeless and sustainable luxury brand, Marli Dresses Collection (Monaco-London). A well-travelled woman, her photography is a portfolio of work which is the result of her international perspective. Her works center around themes of nature and environmental conservation. Through showcasing the beauty of everything around her, she hopes to raise awareness to the importance of protecting the environment and to inspire those around her to do the same.

Sourcing inspiration for her artworks through the environment, she is just a few artworks away from doing a solo exhibition.

The Michelin-starred Chef Antonio Salvatore elevates the historical restaurant “Rampoldi” in Monaco

ust a short distance from the casino in the heart of Monaco, the legendary and glamorous “Rampoldi” restaurant, est. 1946, attracts celebrities from all over the world. The favorite restaurant of Grace Kelly and the entire royal family up to this day, as one month ago Prince Albert celebrated his birthday there, has been rejuvenated under the signature of the creative Chef Antonio Salvatore, rampoldi.mc.

Chef Antonio (above left) brought new life to “Rampoldi”, offering something new, authentic and at the same time creative to the customers every day, offering them gourmet gastronomic experiences.

The restaurant area is sophisticated and elegant, with Carrara marbles and Murano vases and chandeliers completing the scene. On the lower floor, historical heritage meets innovation in the gourmet La table d’Antonio Salvatore: just five tables with an exceptional art de la table where the Chef takes care of every detail and a cigar lounge for members, each having their own cigar box.

The Chef Antonio Salvatore comes from the medieval town of Guardia Perticara in Basilicata, Southern Italy. His family, with an obvious love for food prepared with high quality raw materials from their garden and the surrounding area, have provided him with the inspiration to follow the culinary career.

Upon completing his studies, he worked in restaurants in Rome, Florence and Madrid and as a private chef to a Sheikh. His two most important “master's degrees”, however, were at the side of the Michelin-starred Chef Juan Pablo Felipe in Madrid and Nino Graziano in Moscow.

Antonio’s specialty is the Mediterranean cuisine, a “marriage” between the Italian and French cuisines with innovations and presentation that create a Monegasque style. In the dishes we tasted, the flavors were authentic, there was balance in the ingredients and the presentation was characterised by finesse.

The Chef is always looking for the best products that Menton has to offer, the famous shrimps of San Remo, while 100 different varieties of fresh vegetables from the Monaco market are used throughout the year for his dishes.

The inspiration for the menu is derived from the fresh ingredients picked by the Chef every day, with a touch of imagination, innovation and creativity. His favorite ingredients, which he often uses in his dishes, are good olive oil, fresh tomatoes and basil. In fact, he is known for the amazing tomato sauce he makes.

Friendly and communicative, he confided in us that it would be his great honor and desire to cook for Pope Francis. He would prepare a traditional dish from his place of origin, Basilicata: homemade spaghetti with fresh tomatoes from the family garden.

According to Antonio, good food is honest, delicious and simple. His favorite Greek restaurant is “Milos” in New York. He has not managed to visit Greece so far, but he knows and loves the Greek cuisine, which, after all, is closely related to the Italian cuisine, as he interprets at Rampoldi.

It is patronaged by a member of the Royal family of Dubai, and we expect only high society guests such as royal families from the Middle East, top entrepreneurs, and celebrities. It is an Award Gala dinner with 250 very selective guests.

MM: What are your plans for the near future?

A. D.: I plan to grow and expand worldwide with the franchise of Chic Icon. Also, I'm planning to launch my fine jewelry brand in 2022. And finally, to give more time to my personal life (laughs)!

ome fashion campaigns go unnoticed, more often than not, and others have the impact desired by the advertising brand that created them, and a few make history, as is the case with the new WOMEN campaign by ZARA. Its black-and-white images and the successful styling elevate the image of the Spanish brand and the campaign competes for the place of honour of being one of the best of the season.

Photographed by the brilliant Steven Meisel and with art direction by Fabien Baron, this campaign features models like the legendary Marisa Berenson, Rianne Van Rompaey, Meadow Walker, Raquel Zimmerman, Sasha Pivovarova, Kirsten Owen, Precious Lee, Chiharu Okunugi, Yumi Nu and Amar Akway. The casting was a great success.

Zara Women's proposals for this season are a range of textures and fabrics, which coexist with sequins mixed with velvet, checks and tweeds, re contextualizing traditional fabrics to make a new proposal that breathes 90's grunge,

all mixed with silhouettes that propose something more refined and luxurious.

Raising the funds was one part of the task — comparatively easy and light to what awaited them in Arusha. The practical part was Herculean, to say the least: working tirelessly and unendingly in the Home and helping in the daily chores that catered to 30 restless babies were indeed tasks not for the lily-livered.

Voluntary helpers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, who helped in other projects of STEP AFRICA were of great assistance, too. The work to be done was most engaging and demanding. Every one of these babies was plagued by their peculiar and pathetic story and experience.

These, to begin with, are innocent, young souls birthed by women who were finding life extremely challenging. To add to the tales of woe, the fathers of the babies are not always around to cater to them.

The hapless infants, as young as they were, rejoiced within their souls at the tender and human touch and loving support they received. The babies always clung tightly to the workers and to anyone who carried them in their arms, never wanting to part from them anymore. The older children rallied round each other in any way they could, comforting themselves through subtle infantile solidarity. It was so touching and heartbreaking to witness all this.

Every day Maya and Anna did their very best to assist in every way they could in order to see to the smooth running of the Home while they were there.

They fed the babies and nestled them lovingly. They looked after the older children and rocked them to sleep at noon. In addition, they planned on weekly shopping sprees with the Home Management to buy and obtain groceries and other necessary household material from the local market and shops. The most essential items were the milk substitute powder for the many babies, hence they remain a priority.
