EDITION 6 MORDIALLOC COLLEGE

THE STUDENT SNAPSHOT

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR AALIYAH ZAPH The long, long year of 2020 is finally coming to an end. With a relatively normal start to the school year, the COVID-19 pandemic soon meant a transition to online learning: a new experience that some found a struggle, while others even preferred. The most important thing is that we have all made it here, and with mere days of headstart left, the much-deserved holidays are just around the corner. Putting together Edition 6 was a bittersweet process, as director Jack Crowe graduates, but it is overall a lighthearted edition, filled with beautiful artwork and recommendations that you should totally look into these holidays. We are also super excited to present our firstever teacher article, in which four teachers from various year levels have provided some clues about who they might be. We really hope you enjoy this edition! Happy holidays, and be sure to have a safe break!

JOIN THE TEAM Want to be a part of the team as a writer, photographer, artist, designer or editor? A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR JACK CROWE

At the beginning of Year 11 in 2019, Mr McConchie suggested the creation of a student magazine to act as a form of expression for students amongst the school community. Immediately, I accepted this idea and stuck with it. Writing and designing had always been a large hobby of mine, and though I knew this would be a much larger project to work on, I was thrilled to be able to direct what would become ‘The Student Snapshot’. After a semester of exhaustive promotion, recruitment, voting on a name, discussing how we would distribute our first edition - all the while producing it - Edition 1 was released to the school community. It was a tremendous weight off the team’s shoulders and we were able to share pride for what we had accomplished. It’s only been two years in directing The Student Snapshot, but over this time we have gathered a team of extremely passionate and talented people. From creative designers to political writers and natural photographers, the team have been instrumental in producing six magazines that have been widely appreciated by the school community. Each edition, we also found that we

3

consistently improved our style and developed a more iconic and long-lasting personality for the publication. Undoubtedly, this has been the product of hard-work and commitment. We were always re-evaluating and experimenting new design formats and trying to target larger audiences. Thanks to the help of Mrs Furphy and Mr Davis, we were able to refine the overall style of the magazine, and with Mr McConchie, we were able to judge which articles would be more valuable to the readers, helping us to increase reader engagement. Each edition we made, there were always challenges to be overcome, but the team were resilient and worked through them. Personally, I have learnt so much throughout this process. While having to manually place page numbers on each article was the bane of my existence during the compiling process, at the end of each edition I always look over it at least six or seven times. This isn’t because I’m a perfectionist, but it’s because I am so proud of what the team has produced. Even when comparing our latest edition to our first, it is evident

that we have developed so much, and I think that each individual who has worked on any edition should celebrate that. Now that I am moving on from Mordialloc College and into university, The Student Snapshot will continue with a new director. For this position I have asked Aaliyah Zaph to take on the role. She has demonstrated absolute resolve in each edition to curate aesthetically-pleasing designs and to contribute informatively written pieces. She has also acted as a great role model for the younger students and encouraged others to become a part of our small, but diligent team. This was an extremely difficult decision to come to as there are so many hard workers, but I am confident that Aaliyah will further lead the magazine to success! Congratulations to Aaliyah!

Thanks to the following people for being a crucial part of the team: Scarlet Broad, Bec Brumby, Elishka Collins, Ava Collinson, Georgia Dorrity, Lilly Fruitman, Jade Goodman, George Gorbatchev, Spencer Halse, Luke Holland, Nicholas Irvine, Alisa Kvashko, William Lhuede O’meara, Celina Lum, Beth Michael, Emma Schultz, Kate Schultz, Jeremy Thai-chan, Jeneya Tran, Ruby Treloar, Harriet Tyrer-Gunn, Timothy Whitford, Eliza Wragg, Aaliyah Zaph, Charlotte Zaph and Noreigh Zuniga.

Signing off,

Jack Crowe.

Acting as my final farewell, I wish the best for the students on this team and hope that The Student Snapshot will be carried into future years. This has been an unforgettable experience and I’ll forever be grateful of the team’s passion and dedication.

the playlist to our final term

As we setlle back into our normal routines, with the entire Mordialloc College community back on site, it’s no secret that our commute times have increased from Term 3 mornings of waking up minutes before Period 1 (we’ve all been there). If your usual playlists are starting to get repetitive as we reach the end of the school year, we hope you find some new tunes in our Edition 6 Playlist!

MARS

Sleepy Mars!

If you were wondering where the name ‘Mars’ comes from, well, we named him after the chocolate bar… While we recently celebrated his third birthday, I thought I’d sort through some old photos of him from his puppy days. I was fortunate enough to come across this gold, and wow, he’s changed so much. As a labrador, he manages to chomp down anything that resembles food (unless it’s lettuce or cucumber), which is probably why he currently looks a little chunky. Lucky for him and other dogs, quarantine has meant more walks and more company, and I know that he has enjoyed all of the attention.

BEANIE Beanie Bug is a 9-month-old Staffy cross we were lucky enough to look after in early May through Mad Paws. Her mum had to drop her off for daycare sessions, as she is a paramedic and didn’t want her beautiful baby to get anxious at home alone. Beanie was full of energy at times, really lazy at others, but cuddly always. I hope we get to look after her again soon.

Beanie Bug!

In Edition 4, we we invited the school to contribute pictures of their pets, which we then compiled together into an extensive guide to the pets of Mordialloc College. We loved having your pets featured in the magazine so much that we’ve decided to make this a routine - every edition you can expect a couple of pets to be grace the pages, so be sure to tune in every term and keep an eye out for your furry friend!

GUESS THE TEACHER DO YOU KNOW WHO THEY ARE?

I think it will be impossible to make this difficult because students know me very well just from my crazy clothing. I am obsessed with cats. I like cafes and walks along the beach. I recently bought a very expensive Pokemon jumper.

I love my french bulldog Manu and I love playing netball. I have a baby daughter named Ivy who is a tornado of a child. She is cuckoo. I used to work at Chelsea Heights Primary School and I love seeing all the kids I taught when they were in grade 1 or grade 6 become super star, secondary college kids at Mordi!! Interesting fact: My cousin was on the tv show Home and Away.

People that know me know that I am a self-confessed nerd. I’m forever using film quotes to help my lessons be more fun (at least in my own head). I seem to always have a coffee in my hand thanks to Mr Randell delivering them to me. Aside from teaching, I run a side hustle selling indoor plants. I love to travel and love to talk about travel with people. When I travel, I like to visit famous places that have appeared in films. For example, the fire station in New York from Ghostbusters, Mrs Doubtfire’s house in San Francisco and the restaurant from Seinfeld. Fun fact: I used to be a cinematographer.

4

I’ve been at Mordialloc College for almost four years now, and I’ve known many of you for longer than that, from way back when I used to teach at a nearby primary school. When I’m not teaching, you’ll usually find me playing guitar, chasing my cat around the house or cooking up some vegetarian delicacies. I like to be creative in my spare time - I once wrote a picture book, and there’s a single copy of it floating around the school somewhere!

THE

TRUTH ABOUT RENEWABLES is no t wha t we t hink

WRITTEN BY // Spencer Halse You’ve been lied to all along; I know it’s a bold statement, but it is the truth. Now don’t get me wrong — climate change is a very real issue. This is not intended to downplay the significance of it, and certainly not to deny its existence. This is, however, to break down the true underlying reasons as to why it seems that nothing is being done about it. The production of renewable energy infrastructure, the storage of power and the irregularities are all major hurdles that must be overcome (and an unlikely solution that researchers say will work). Let’s get this out of the way now: I am all for the development of renewable energy. We’re all worried about the future of emissions and the state of our planet, but there are some little known facts about renewable infrastructure which are rarely discussed. Mathematician K. Liffman calculated that we would need 4.22 billion solar panels if we wanted to harness the sun’s rays. Oh—did I forget to mention that those panels would only be enough to power Australia? Any more than that and there are very real fears that the world will be depleted of the copper and other materials needed to build them. Australians alone use over 197.6 trillion watt-hours of electricity every year, and that number is set to rise as more people shift to working from home. With this in mind, how can it be reasonable for the climate activists to be calling for this? It’s quite simple; it’s not. We are just getting started, yet it’s already clear how misguided the minds of our youth are in this day and age. I haven’t even told you about researcher Michael Shellenburger’s work. As a former environmental activist, Shellenburger published his work titled "renewables can’t save the planet". In this, he brought attention to the geographical impact and the impact to local wildlife. He found that where solar arrays were constructed, the climate changed drastically and local birds, animals and ecosystems were completely wiped out. He said that he found his "prior understanding" of climate change to be "factually inaccurate," blaming the media for sensationalizing the idea and presenting it as though it was bureaucratic barriers preventing it.

Possibly the single biggest difference between renewable and traditional energy (other than the fact that one is renewable and the other is not) is the speed in which it can be produced, accessed and provided to homes. After all: the sun doesn’t shine at night. The wind doesn’t always blow. But no matter where in the world it’s built, coal-fired plants just work. The solution allowing on demand access to renewable energy forms is to store it for use during times it would otherwise be unavailable. Batteries with just this in mind are being produced right now in record-high rates. There is just one problem… These batteries are primarily produced with Lithium — the same material used in phone batteries, and an element which the world is in a massive predicament about. We are running out of Lithium. Something which modern-day technology relies on so strongly is almost all gone. Remember the 4.22 billion solar panels needed to power Australia? Well the amount of Lithium required to store that power is not even estimated to exist on the planet, according to multiple peer-reviewed studies. Why is this not being talked about? We have been made to believe this is the politicians’ fault, when really it is the current limits to innovation and understanding in the field of electrical energy. The situation is pretty dire, but I have a solution which can buy us hundreds of years to develop, innovate and fine tune battery technology - and scientists agree. Nuclear energy is safe, cheap and makes a minimal contribution to pollution. I know what you’re thinking: it’s too unsafe, look at what happened at Chernobyl… But despite this common misconception, nuclear power plants are among the safest methods of electrical generation. In fact, coal-fired power stations emit 100 times the amount of radiation than the modern nuclear power plant. Dr Elizabeth K. Ervin from the University of Olemiss

“the more people learn about nuclear power, the more supportive they are of it” (Mississippi) wrote that “the more people learn about nuclear power, the more supportive they are of it”. Based on recent testing, she concludes that nuclear power "keeps air clean" and that they produce "zero controlled air pollutants". It’s also worth noting that the Chernobyl disaster - a once in a lifetime event - killed less than 70 people. Put that into perspective with the roughly 150 people whose lives are lost every single day working in traditional energy stations and you’ll see why nuclear is so safe in comparison. Another consideration is the price. Electricity is expensive and we are relying on it at an ever-increasing rate, so it makes sense if we can produce it cheaply, safely and in a relatively eco-friendly way. Why have we not done so in Australia? This is a highly complex issue with a very simple solution. It is physically impossible with our current technologies to make renewables work across the board. Nuclear energy will save lives, prevent harmful emissions and provide an extended period for further innovation and scientific endeavors in the field of renewables. It is critical that we, the future of the world, are constantly critical of what we hear. We must identify and distinguish between what is said, and what is truly, factually realistic. Ultimately, it is up to us to drive the future and to make the right decisions. And nuclear power — now that’s the right decision.

Nuclear power has some incredible benefits that make it a choice well worth considering as a clean energy option into the future.

On a beautiful summer afternoon, these photographs show the congregation of bird life neighbouring my house. Although warm, the sky was particularly grey that day, causing the stream to shimmer like glass. I saw these black dots in the distance – they were all over the stream. When I approached them, they moved away from me slightly as they fear all outsiders that are devoid of feathers and webbed feet. They swam on their individual course and yet they moved collectively. Then there were the odd ones out who ventured on their own, possibly the most terrified ones to be waylaid by visitors. Against the faint ripples caused by the soft breeze, they were unseen as birds to me. But nevertheless, they are a part of nature and in spite of that, we must accept their existence. In a way, I can see now what Monet tried to tell us in his paintings of streams. The title of these photos present that as it is a lyric from Don Mclean’s ‘Vincent’, explaining the importance of his paintings in a world that failed to understand their beauty. ‘Perhaps they never will.’

HOW THEY FORGOT THE TRUTH

21

Feeling spritely and enthusiastic, James leapt out of bed and skipped into the lounge room to look at his phone. No new emails, but a news headline of “DEATH TOLL FOR CORONAVIRUS OVER 100 MILLION, Health expert predicts”. He saw that it was Monday the 3rd of August – he was surprised about how happy he felt considering it was a Monday. He quickly got ready for work, and then drove out of his driveway, noticing the house opposite his was for sale. He read the first line on the sale board: “Spacious and unique, this awe-creating oasis has a real wow factor.”

WRITTEN BY // Timothy Whitford

While driving to work, he turned on the radio, but unfortunately it was riddled with advertisements. One of the ads was a smug American voice saying: “Integrity. Individuality. Success. Perfection. Be yourself. Buy the new Mercedes luxury vehicle for just fifty-nine, nine’ynine, nine’y-nine today!” Followed by an extremely fast, almost incomprehensible voice saying: “T’s and C’s apply. Price does not include warranty or other premium features. Offer available until August nine.”

Arriving at work just on time, he walked across the car park, passing a sign saying: “HUGE DISCOUNTS of up to 80% off ALL ITEMS STOREWIDE.” For some reason, the spring in James’ step had disappeared already. He felt as though a slow walk was all he could manage. Nevertheless, he made it to his office one minute before nine, but then remembered that he was meant to go to the meeting room. Hurriedly walking over to the room, he heard that his monthly ‘Team Chat’ had just begun. He awkwardly sat down to hear his boss talking. “So, it seems that our team has failed to get anywhere near our stretch goals for this month. Are you guys not putting in your personal best? Are you not going outside of your comfort zone? Are you not thinking outside of the box? Well, I’m hoping that you will all be able to selfassess what your areas for improvement are, so that this month we can at least get halfway to achieving our new stretch goals,” James’ boss stated. “But how are we supposed to do that if we have two less staff on our team and the goals are twice as difficult as last time?” one of James’ colleagues asked in an anxious tone. “Well, you are all just going to have to work harder this month,” the boss replied. “Now back to work.” Feeling deflated, James left the meeting with the rest of his colleagues. He sat down at his desk, opened his laptop, looked at his emails, then started his work for the day. But as he was just about to get into his work, he looked out the window and saw a large billboard saying: “Not able to keep your weight down? We understand. Try our new weight-loss program, and if you don’t lose 2 kilograms or more, we’ll give you your money back!” Feeling like he can’t go on any longer, James’ ebullience from this morning had completely drained away.

Musicians You Need Under Your Radar WRITTEN BY // Jack Crowe As we progress through social isolation and restrictions, most of us feel like we have all the time in the world. I have kept myself occupied by sifting through Spotify playlists and searching for some new tunes and artists to listen to on repeat. Although I could list an extensive amount of talented and innovative musicians, I have managed to narrow it down to eight singers that I believe are making an everlasting impression for themself in the music industry. These aren’t necessarily artists that you will hear on the radio – these are people that are defying genre and structure by revitalising old sounds with new tones and textures. These are the people inspiring creativity and passion amongst musicians across the world, and I can’t wait to share them with you.

Remi Wolf Welcome to the world of psychedelic visuals, groovy instrumentals and a voice that will leave you stunned. Wolf abides by a sophisticated and heavy indie style filled with bass, guitars and funky vocal filters. Complementing this with a powerful vocal range, she soars through the choruses of her songs - the acapella at the end of Disco Man and delicate touches of her high range in Sauce are some of my favourite examples. Her mantra is that she doesn’t make music ‘seriously, just intensely.’ This is evident in her consistent release of singles which experiment in structure and sound. Even though she states that she doesn’t make music ‘seriously’, she has succeeded in producing great bodies of work and has been able to find her sound (which generally takes a musician a long time to refine). Having only released two EPs so far, it is impressive to see her hypnotic and colourful tone prominent in all of her songs. My personal favourites would be Woo! and Disco Man. I highly recommend a listen!

REI AMI Over the past decade, trap has become significantly more predominant in the charts, competing with the pop genre. REI AMI however, is not your traditional trap artist. Having written music since the beginning of college, she didn’t release her first song till she was 24 (in 2019). She recently spoke in an interview with i-D and said that “I was making music that I thought was trendy and cool -- a lot of R&B, that’s what everyone was on, right? The songs were about heartbreak and love but I was never touching on subjects that were reflective of my own being.” Her current songs all differ quite dramatically too. My personal favourite is RUNAWAY, particularly in the final chorus where an 808 beat is overlayed by an alluring violin. The main theme imbedded in her discography is power – she adamantly demonstrates that she gets what she wants and won’t let people stand over her. Truly showcasing her diverse style from mainstream trap, her latest single MAC AND CHEESE uses a rich and playful drum and percussive beat. She’s not one to miss and I expect to see her garner a large fanbase in a manner of time.

ASHWARYA ASHWARYA With only 3 tracks released so far, I am extremely eager to hear what else Melbourne artist, ASHWARYA, has to offer. There are several elements of the music she has released so far that surprise and entice me. While she draws similarities to artists such as Billie Eilish and Lorde, she is a nonconformist to the traditional conventions of pop music. Her first single, Biryani, was released via Triple J Unearthed earlier this year, though it wasn’t released to streaming services till September (most likely as a promotional tactic). She was prompt in establishing a large fanbase upon this release, binding her Hindi culture into her debut by incorporating both English and Hindi lyrics – ‘tum ho meri dil ki dhadkan, keeps on beating for you.’ A similarity between Biryani and the first single released to streaming services, Psychohole, is that they feature an unexpected switch-up in the chorus of the song. Both change their tempo before a dark synth-pop hook is introduced and accompanied by ASHWARYA’s vocals. This is partly the work of Australian producer, Jarrad Rogers, whom has collaborated with Charli XCX and Icona Pop. The duo complement each other flawlessly, and even though only 3 tracks have been released, I have a feeling ASHWARYA is preparing for pop stardom.

MARIPOSA EXTENSION NUMBER After the release of his latest EP, Isaac’s Insects, Isaac Dunbar has adopted the alias of ‘Mariposa Extension Number’ to experiment sonically and lyrically. The debut EP, Guru is comprised of 6 tracks almost unrecognisable to Dunbar’s mainstream discography. With airy, reverbed vocals and thick atmospheric instrumentals, Dunbar establishes an unconventional sound alluding to the space-core genre (one that features light synths and subtle elements of dance music). Dreamy and euphoric, Mariposa Extension Number presents a sound likely unheard by those who choose to listen. My personal favourites include Grieve and Phlegm. The vocals on Phlegm are rough and delayed, though they act as a sophisticated instrumental element. Given this opportunity to experiment, Dunbar states that some of the songs feature indistinct and random lyrics to create a pleasurable melody for the listeners. Somewhat resembling the funkadelic riff of Redbone by Childish Gambino, the chorus obtains a sense of clarity for the listeners. Grieve on the other hand, is especially poignant and be fitting for a film soundtrack. The haunting melody and deep, croaky vocals act as the perfect conclusion to the EP, the beautiful synths resonating with the audience and instilling a sense of closure.

SAMMY SAMMY COPLEY COPLEY There’s nothing more soothing than a soft voice over a piano ballad, which is why I believe Copley deserves greater recognition. I’m a little late to the current fanbase (of which has originated within the YouTube community) though I am expectant to see it grow further. In 2015, Copley began a YouTube channel to make covers of different songs, including Elton John and Queen. These gained him a large group of 200 000 subscribers which followed Copley into his release of his own originals. Posting some to YouTube and then releasing them via streaming services, my personal favourite is Good Lie. Mirroring the soft and melancholic voice of Bruno Major, the musician gently sings over a soft piano doubting whether society’s advocation for major problems is worth it. What begins as doubt transforms to the importance of our individual responsibility to bring awareness to the current problems – ‘the job's not mine for taking, but I'll be damned if I leave it to you.’ His other songs feature a range of mellow guitars and sweet vocal harmonies (I’m a sucker for these). While his music is perfect for some easy listening, there are also moments within his lyricism that are profoundly nostalgic, especially in his laid-back tune, Gene Kelly. Combining elements of smooth pop and jazz, Copley’s music is perfect for a rainy day spent inside reminiscing about love and life.

27

TAMINO TAMINO Elegant would be the best word to describe Tamino’s music. Take a break from conventional pop and trap music and diversify your taste by listening to his unique Arabian and cinematic sound. Layering falsettos over guitars and orchestral bows, his music is mournful and sorrowful, employing storytelling to portray deep and ambiguous messages. His song, Indigo Night, is my favourite – the lyrics,‘still I feel as If I'm a walking machine watching it all through a screen,’ portrays a sense of fragmentation from the inner beauty of life. The character Tamino sings about seems to be disassociating with the world around him as if he is emotionally numb. What stands out to me about this song is the distinctive lyricism and the ambiguous meaning. It’s open to interpretation. Tamino, while telling stories of commiseration, also presents a calmness, such as in ‘Verses’. He shows ambivalence in the nature of life itself, both finding contentment but also illustrating the unpredictable passage of life in the lines, ‘come babe, let love have this evening, life was not aware of me and I wasn't aware of life.’ His debut album, Amir, deserves much greater recognition. If you’re a fan of Sufjan Stevens, Tamino is perfect for you.

SCRUFFPUPPIE Similar to Copley, ‘Scruffpuppie’ (JJ Shurbet), also gained a large fanbase via YouTube. His most popular video is his cover of star shopping by Lil Peep with over 5 million views. Accompanied by a guitar, his acoustic style is soothing and also somber at times. In addition to soft piano ballads, I’m a big sucker for raspy voices as I feel that they convey a more vulnerable sense of emotion within songs. This is prominent in one of his most popular songs, ego, where Shurbet cries an elegy for the death of his self-identity. ‘Now it’s dark and nothing has need,I'll write you back when I can breathe,’ demonstrates the need to know ourselves before being able to form connections with others. This is further explored in his debut EP, Never Coming Home. An extremely admirable feature of this project is his ability to divert from the conventional song structure and write from his core; it’s evident that Shurbet instils a relatable feeling of self-pity as communicated through the storytelling commentary. One of my favourite examples is transparency, where he captivates the feeling of being led on and disregarded. Embellishing his estrangement from people and his own identity, Scruffpuppie fundamentally attempts to heal old wounds, particularly for those with similar experiences.

KEIYNAN LONSDALE You might recognise Lonsdale from several films, playing Bram in the 2018 movie, ‘Love Simon’. After listening to his debut album, Rainbow Boy, for the first time, it was clear that he has a diverse range of talents. This album is fun, quirky and liberating, focalising on how his sexuality and racial identity has empowered him (and also challenged him). Lonsdale’s vocals are both sassy and powerful throughout his debut. This is showcased in Gay Street Fighter, where the chorus is a high-pitched and swinging groove. The rap verse on Rainbow Dragon similarly illustrates this confident and youthful attitude – ‘tv’s cool, but a bore, left it in a dash, yeah.’ His pursuit for music is an eager and exciting one, the layered vocals, slap bass guitars and creative percussion form a quirky experience for the listener, binding elements of pop and RnB.

SCHOOL SHOULD START LATER IN THE MORNING

29

SCHOOL SHOULD START LATER SO STUDENTS CAN GET A FULL 8 HOURS OF SLEEP

Students need a lot of concentration in order to work hard. When they are tired and drowsy they are unable to think effectively. Also, students need to use their brain when they are writing papers or making speeches. If they don’t get sleep, they will make many mistakes and will be unable to do their classwork to their personal best. If it is the first class of the day, students may be falling asleep or not listening to their teacher. Schools should start at 9:30, and instead of ending at 3:10, schools should end around 3:20 with a little less break time. Let’s say a student has a lot of homework one night and goes to bed at 11 p.m. That student would not have to wake up at 6:30 a.m. and instead, would get to wake up at 8:00 a.m. and get a full nine hours of sleep. If they prefer mornings, they can go to bed early, wake up earlier and still complete their homework. Whether they are a morning or a night person, the student will be well rested and alert for the full day of school ahead.

BETTER SLEEP ALLOWS FOR GREATER CONCENTRATION

Have you ever been exhausted on a Monday morning and felt like you needed extra sleep? Schools should make sure that their students are well rested and are ready for a long day of learning. School should start later in the morning so students can get a full recommended 8 hours of sleep. Students will be more attentive which will help them learn, and teachers will also feel more energised. Schools should start later in the morning in order for students to have better concentration, energy, and attitudes.

Energy is also very important for students and teachers; instead of being drained and late to class, students would have more energy without being late and would be well prepared. Students will work much harder when they are not lacking sleep. Energy is needed in order to obtain good grades. More sleep is healthier for students and enables them to improve their grades. About 39,700 public middle schools and high schools start at approximately 9:00. Students who have an early start are more likely to skip breakfast and will not engage with physical activities as much.

ENERGY IS ESSENTIAL FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS Nobody likes waking up early. When students do not get enough sleep they may be in a bad mood. If school was pushed back to 9:30, students and teachers would be much happier and healthier. Parents will also love this because students will get better grades and have more free time to do chores. They will be focused

SLEEP ENCOURAGES BETTER ATTITUDES, LEADING TO IMPROVED PRODUCTIVITY and attentive, and in addition, fewer students will be late to school. Students also will have a much better attitude towards homework as they can complete it at night and potentially complete some studying in the morning. Instead of teachers getting up at 5:30 to prepare for their classes, teachers will be happy when they get to sleep in as well. Schools should start later for students in order to have better concentration, energy, and attitude. If school started later, students would be more focused and concentrated instead of being tired and drowsy. Students would have more energy to do an excellent job in their school work. Everyone would get to sleep which could lead to better attitudes, especially towards learning.
