We are here to soften the blow
MISSION STATEMENT Bein Ish Ubein Uchiv is a nonprofit organization with the goal to provide physical, emotional, and financial support to families that are battling cancer. Through a wide range of support initiatives we bring joy and hope to families thrust into a medical crisis.
IT’S TOUGH, WE KNOW. We won’t pretend to really know because putting the pain into words would be cruel. You know those nights where they wish for morning and when the sun finally rises, all they want is the escape of darkness? And those days when they dream of disappearing, running away from it all? It’s unbearable. But they don’t need to struggle alone.
WHAT THEY DON’T NEED IS PITY. What they will get is real, warm support and encouragement with some genuinely caring gestures to help tide them over from storm to storm. We cannot heal the cancer. But we can heal the wounds it creates. With dignity.
It’ll be okay. And when it isn’t, Bein Ish is here. We will support them. Care for then. Hold their hand. Lift the burden of anguish that has become their reality. We wrap their pain in a cocoon of reprieve, the edge will be blunted. Bein Ish becomes family.
HOME AWAY FROM HOME. The hospital stay drains the bloodlife out of the patient and those who sit by their side. It’s needed for survival, yet it drains life itself. But what if they had a fully furnished apartment waiting for you at the end of a long day of watching a loved one suffer? What if they could sink into fresh linen and grab a hot meal from the oven? What if they could find your favorite magazine and some home baked goods to munch on? Yes. From the hospital room straight to a blissful haven of reprieve. All on us. We give them a taste of home, when home seems as far as the moon.

PACKED WITH LOVE. When the week’s been a mix of pain and anguish, the weekend seems to hold no promise. Until the doorbell rings. More than the flowers, the fruit and the chocolates is the virtual hug that comes along with weekly care package. Bein Ish will not skip a week. Because cancer doesn’t. The hug will be there. And of course, the chocolate.
THE ONLY CHALLENGE BECOMES TO LEAVE. The Bein Ish weekend retreat lasts more than a weekend and is more than a retreat. It provides a physical, spiritual and emotional recharge that carries the family in a cloud of well being for next few months. When a child is stricken, every member of the family gets hit. Our mission becomes to give every family member an over the top feeling of utopia for the time he/she spends at the luxurious hotel and beyond. When 1,200 people gather together at a weekend retreat and each one feels like the guest of honor, you know you’ve entered a Bein Ish Shabboton.
IT’S ON US. We cannot always anticipate the needs of a family in crisis. As much as support and gestures save the day, we want them to enjoy the comfort of filling their financial gaps with dignity. And so, twice a year we can assure our families with a smile: “The check is in the mail.” We never ask what it’s used for. Because your needs are as unique as they are, and we take pleasure in filling them.
ABOUT US
We’re just like you, trying to make sense of life. They ask how it all started. They will not hear that this was my life’s calling, the dream I had from when I was 5. They won’t either hear that we planned out the details of our mission and launched a campaign to spread the word. No. What they will hear is this: We saw a family in pain and we did what we could to help.
The need was wherever we looked. And wherever we didn’t. Heart wrenching pain flooding our phones at all hours. The necessity was thrust upon us. So no, there was no epiphany. No turning point where we realized “Aha, let’s start something.” Just a raw need that turned into a warm haven of giving.
Then we saw more pain.
Sometimes we wake up in the morning and wonder how it all began.
And more.
Then we remember one family in pain.
And just being the humans we are, we couldn’t turn a blind eye.
We wish the numbers wouldn’t be so Voluminous.
