Bookings required for waste collection and garage sale listings Council has changed the way the bulky waste pickup will be conducted this year.

Facebook, fax or hand deliver the details to Council’s Customer Service Centre.

We will not be driving up and down the streets looking for items, instead members of the public need to call the Waste Hotline on 1300 736 719 by 4pm the Friday before the collection to nominate the address of the kerb-side waste pile.

Clean Up Australia Day This Sunday You can lend a hand on Sunday, 2 March 2014 and help clean up our local area!

Clean Up Australia Day is a simple way you can take action to clean up, fix up and conserve our prized Australian environment. Last year an estimated 550,300 volunteers removed 16,150 tonnes of rubbish at 7,341 sites right across the country – and this year’s Clean Up Australia Day is set to do even better.

Moree Plains Shire Council has identified the Moree Common as the area for the 2014 Clean Up. The Moree Common (Chinaman’s Lane Park Area) is located along Stonnington Road and Chinaman’s Lane, Moree (north Moree). Residents are being encouraged to log on and join the Moree Common site or register their own team to clean up any site throughout Moree Plains Shire. Boggabilla Recreational Area Council crews have recently completed additional planned works to the recreational area adjacent to the Boggabilla Skate Park. Works included the installation of floodlighting and signage on the grassed area as well as the preparation and installation of a new multi-purpose court surface and shelter. The works were finalised in early February and were completed in accordance with Council’s Capital Works Project. Moree Plains Shire Council remains dedicated to the improvement and restoration of roads and infrastructure, and to keeping you informed of what is taking place across the Shire.

Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail Symposium

The Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail Symposium 2014 will be held in Moree on Friday, 7 March 2014. The Symposium will be attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure the Hon. Warren Truss MP. Mr Truss said that the Government is determined to roll out infrastructure essential to boosting our national productivity, and has committed the Coalition Government to fast-tracking delivery of the nation-building Inland Rail project. The overall theme of the Symposium is: Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail – Corridor of Opportunity. The one-day conference program will have three key themes: 1. The role of private industry at all levels of Government in the Inland Rail task. 2. How we collaborate to get the best 21st Century Inland Rail result. 3. Economic development opportunities for regional Australia Moree Plains Shire Council Deputy Mayor Cr Sue Price has welcomed the Government’s

commitment to fast-tracking the Inland Rail. “I am delighted by the Coalition Government’s commitment to Inland Rail,” she said. “The Symposium represents a significant step forward for the Inland Rail project, which will revolutionise how freight is moved within Australia.” The March Inland Rail Symposium in Moree will be a forum for stakeholders to provide input into decisions regarding the Inland Rail route, access points along the route and technologies to be used. In addition to Mr Truss, other speakers include Bryan Nye CEO of the Australasian Rail Association, Michael Deegan National Infrastructure Coordinator, representatives from the Great Australian Trunk Rail System, the Port of Brisbane, the Ettamogah Rail Hub, and key decision makers from industry and government. Quarterly Public Donations Applications Due Moree Plains Shire Council has a new process by which public applications for financial support and donations are assessed and administered. To this end, applications are now being accepted on a quarterly basis. Applicants must complete and submit a Public Donations Application Form no later than 5pm Monday, 10 March 2014. The Council will consider applications for the period from April to June 2014 at their meeting on Thursday, 10 April 2014. Individuals and community, sporting and educational groups wishing to apply for financial assistance from Moree Plains Shire Council for events, functions and sponsorship must now finalise and submit an application by the due date to enable

it to be considered. In accordance with Council’s Public Donations Policy, applications received after the deadline will not be considered until Council’s first meeting in the next calendar quarter.
