GeoGebra Creations using Bezier tool
Students’ age:
13/14 years old students
Subject:
computer science/math, grade 8
Project idea:
Using the Bezier tool to model shapes of flowers, plants and animals
Aims:
- getting to know that organic forms can be created with Bezier curves - understanding the algorithm of de Casteljau and geometric way to construct Bezier curves - using a GeoGebra Bezier tool to construct flowers composed of different Bezier curves
Lesson plan:
I showed students bridges and cars with organic forms modeled with Beziers curves, the tool e.g. in WORD and in image editing programs and then a video about the way to construct curves of third degrees. Students then generated a Beziers curve based on 4 (or 5) points with GeoGebra (second or third degree). Then students modelled plants, flowers or animals using a built-in tool e.g. created by Adrian Martin.
Follow-up:
Bezier Alphabeth Game (it was difficult for my students)
