The first project I was assigned to during my internship with French West Vaughan was for the New Hanover Community Endowment. This is a client of FWV and they are requesting a new logo that could be used on their website and throughout the branding.
New Hanover Community Endowment was formed by the sale of the County-owned New Hanover Regional Medical Center (which has served area residents since June of 1967) to Novant Health. NHCE was created with the focus of significantly improving their community by focusing on, Education (Public primary, secondary, and post-secondary), Equity (Health and social equity), Public safety, and Community development. They seek to identify and address the root challenges in these areas, aiming for long-lasting and deeply impactful solutions in their community.
The task at hand was to develop a logo that matched their core values and matched the communities characteristics. The images you see on this page are the logos I created for NHCE and show the devel opment throughout my process.
The next project I worked on at FWV was another logo. This logo development was for the Town of Cary. This project was super exciting for me because this was my hometown. Since I grew up there, I knew what Cary stood for and a lot of its defining landmarks before even starting the project.
The Town of Cary focuses every day, on enriching the lives of its citizens by creating an exceptional environment and providing exemplary services that enable its community to thrive and prosper. The town of Cary exists to serve its citizens. They will be open, ensure access, encourage involvement and be accountable to its citizens.
Cary provided some things they would like to see in the logo options that FWV was creating. For exam ple, the North Carolina State flower (the dogwood). The images you see here are my ideations of possi ble logos for the town of Cary and my sketches leading up to those.
A very exciting project I got to work on through my internship with FWV was creating a logo for their 25th Anniversary. FWV is an amazing company and I wanted to create a logo that represents how far they have come, grown, and spread.
French West Vaughan was founded in 1997 by Chairman & CEO Rick French and is nationally recog nized as a pioneering influence in integrated marketing. What started as a public relations firm, today employs more than 100 PR, advertising, and digital media experts in Raleigh, New York City, Los Angeles, and Tampa.
During this project, I started off by brainstorming any ideas for logo’s that related to 25 and just play ing around with the numbers. Then after having critiques, I narrowed down what the design team liked the best and moved forward with that logo. I then gave a few different options of how the preferred logo could be laid out, which can be seen in the top row of the image below. Then after having a final critique, the design team decided on their favorite of my logo options and I went forward with creating mockups of what that logo would look like on window decals or merchandise.
This page is a continuation of the project on pages 5-6. The final logo that was decided upon by the design team is shown below and the following images are mockups I made of what this logo could look like on water bottles, jackets, shirts, and whiskey glasses. As well as, what it may look like as a window decal on the front of FWV’s office in downtown Raleigh.
Throughout my internship, I got a lot of practice in different programs, but specifically, I liked working with photoshop. Photoshop is the software I used to complete this project. This job was for the social media platforms that FWV has. This was specifically for twitter headers that could be changed each month and match the feel of that time of year. However, they could also be used for LinkedIn posts, Instagram stories or posts, or even in an email.
During this project, I was able to have a little more freedom and just play around with colors and dif ferent ways to manipulate an image in photoshop. I also learned that there is not just one color associ ated with each month. After researching I learned that there are a lot of different things that connect color to months. For example temperature, flowers, weather, holidays, etc. I really enjoyed this process and I believe that these images are eye-catching and work great for social media.
During my internship with FWV, I had multiple people I was helping out at all times. I was the only creative intern during the period of time that I was there, so anything someone needed help with on the design team got sent to me. I loved this because it gave me a very wide range of projects to work on and gave me a lot of experience.
To the left, you can see an image I was asked to photoshop. The white oval shows where the change was made. Here I was asked to remove a logo so a new one could be added or just be shown without a specific brand name on it.
Underneath that, you can see an image of the FWV team. The white oval shows where the change was made. In this project, I was asked to edit the image to have a brighter saturation and remove the lamp shade that was in front of one of the people in the image. As well as, the trash that was sitting on the counter behind them.
One of the final projects I want to highlight from my internship with FWV was my work with Pendelton Whiskey. Below was an image where I replaced the sky because initially, it was a gray cloudy sky, but they wanted a pretty blue sky. So I made that change as well as edited the colors within the image. This image was going to be blown up and installed as a wall display, so photoshop needs to be seam less because when an image is so large it makes any mistakes easily seen.
To the right you can see two advertisements I worked on for Pendelton Whiskey as well. These were for their Drizzy collection and would be used as ads on social media and could also be printed out. They would also work as a feature on the website. It was fun to play around with text placement and differ ent photoshop skills.
Overall, I had a great time working for French West Vaughan and I was able to learn so much. I will take the skills they shared with me and apply them throughout my career as a graphic designer. I am so grateful to the design team for being great teachers and making me feel like part of the team.
