the editor As you flip through the pages of this particular Autumn/Winter 2018 forecast, you will notice a common theme. In the past couple of years, minimalism has been the common trend. I am predicting that this trend will still play a role in the fashion industry, but it is starting to be overdone. I believe that over embellishments followed by fringe, wild patterns and more is going to become relevant in the upcoming future. People are going to be less afraid to mix and match patterns as well as wear items contrasting one another. Brighter colors will be worn as well as fabrics such as knits, furs, and denims. I think that denim plays a huge role in the fashion industry because of all the different manipulations you can do with it. Over embellished leathers and denims will be seen. I personally enjoy these trends because I think that they stand out among the rest. People will remember these garments. I also believe that an item that was created with embroideries and embellishments has a story behind it.

Neutrals are worn to avoid a statement. This upcoming Autumn/ Winter, neutrals will be worn as a statement. Mixing together fabrics and patterns will creating different types of looks while staying wearable because of the mixture of neutral tones. Neutral colors are the easiest to be worn because you can mix and match them well and add any type of accessory. Adding patchwork as well as embellishments such as fringe fur enhances the look. You can find these same trends in interiors. More use of leathers with a mixture of knits and wall hangings.

Dark colors have always had a morbid side to them. That is why this upcoming Autumn/ Winter season, we are livening up the darks. You will begin to see over embellishing on all different types of garments and accessories and the adding of colors. Even adding different patterns breaks up the outfit. Mixing fabrics will be big in this trend. The mixture of leathers and knits will become very popular for style purposes as well as functionality (by keeping extra warm). You will begin to see more suedes in clothing as well as furniture. Accents of darker colors will be seen such as reds and greens being mixed with blacks and browns. Patches as well as embroideries will be seen on not only garments but also accessories.

Personally, bright colors have always scared me. They create the feeling as if you are the center of attention and all eyes are on you. But what’s the problem with that? This upcoming Autumn/Winter season, I believe different shades of orange yellow and red will play a big part in clothing. These three colors, as you may know, resemble fire. These colors will be seen mixed with different denims and leathers. They are strong colors and used well as accents and even standing alone. Patchwork and embroideries of flames have already faintly been seen, but I believe this trend will catch on quickly. I can see many designers such as Gucci and Prada picking up on these trends and adding aspects of it to their upcoming collections.

In my mind, pastel colors have always belonged on small children or for the Spring/ Summer seasons. Recently I’ve discovered that is not true at all. Pastel colors on certain fabrics such as velvet, cashmere and on knits is perfect for the colder seasons. Going along with the other trends, you will see a mixture of fabrics, textures, and patterns throughout this color story. Embroideries as well as embellishments add to these garments giving them the extra flare they need. You can see pastels being incorporated within the home mixed with fabrics such as leathers and hardwood flooring. They mix nicely with dark colors and can be mixed and matched quite easily.
