hether it be the picturesque hills of Tuscany or the stunning architecture of Rome, it could be argued that Italy is one holiday destination everyone must see.
Thousands of tourists flock the historically exquisite region each year, and it’s rather easy to see why. If it isn’t the beautiful landscapes or loud cultural presence, then it must be the food. It is said that the secret to a delicious Italian course is gold-standard ingredients and seasonal produce. When visiting the bel paese (beautiful country) it is hard to pass up a few signature foods.
As far as ‘top 10 to do’ goes, there are a number of options available to travellers of all ages. These include half-day historic tours of the Roman Coliseum and the ruins of Pompeii as well as hiking through 15th Century paths at Cinque Terre. Also on offer are the glistening marble palaces and flooded canals of Venice, the romantic riverside streets of Florence, world-renowned fashion houses of Milan and unforgettably, the prosperous and delicious farming landscapes of Tuscany.
“Travelling to Italy is an experience that simply cannot be underrated.”

BROCK
FIRST HOLDEN SELLS AT A
K’S
AUCTION
PROTOTYPE
SOLD FOR 125K At the recent Shannon’s Sydney Winter Classic Auction, the very first of Brock’s creations, a two-tone green prototype was sold for an astounding $125,000. On the steering wheel, the number “001” is engraved because this 1979 sedan is the first ever “Brock” Commodore. The late great Peter Brock started what is now known as a revolution when he found himself without a major sponsor at the end of the 1979 racing season. With the remaining staff from the Holden Dealer Team, he began to fund the production of modified road cars. These cars were only to be sold through 57 carefully selected dealers. Holden agreed to supply brand new VC Commodores that would take 20 manhours to modify at the Holden Dealer Team’s facilities in Melbourne.
When the engine and suspension upgrades were completed, they were ready to compete with the best cars from Europe. The new Holden was said to be an Aussie muscle car with a touch of class. The Holden Dealer Team began production of a limited run of only 500 Commodores and after the two-tone green prototype, the rest were released in three colours. Firethorn Red, Palais White and Tuxedo Black, all with burgundy upholstery. The initial success of the VC Commodore ensured a financially stable future for the Holden Dealer Team and the dollar value for these early cars just keeps rising. The car sold was the prototype that the Australian racing legend used to test all the parts for the next 499 limited edition VC models, which hit the market in the early 80s.
COL OUR IS THE NEW BLACK Yes. It is that time of year already. We can pretty much assume that the worst of the winter blues are over and that the sun is rising on a new season. The birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming and your wardrobe needs updating. But this is often more easily said than done. Is there a set of rules you should follow? Which style is right for which season? Above all, practicality is paramount. That being said, there are many blurred lines in the field of fashion. This grey zone is arguably where one’s personal taste makes a grand entrance. Your decisions, often arrived at because of your local climate, translate into your very own Winter-Spring style. Some might believe it is as simple as putting away the trench coat or swapping the long john’s for boxer-style pyjamas. But there is more to it than that. So much more. For the ladies, spring is often about introducing a floral touch; after all, flowers are synonymous with the spring season. A floral print bomber-style coat or light throw over can now replace
the heavy knits and jumpers that once kept you warm. Colourful accessories can also pull your look away from the receded tones of winter and into the warmer months. For the gentlemen, colour in general is the key to a suitable spring wardrobe. No, don’t panic, no one is asking you to wear pinks or purples. But the introduction of oranges, reds and greens would now be a wise move. On the formal front for the guys, navy, which is traditionally a winter colour, is still popular. However, we are now starting to see lighter, more royal tones in both suits and business-wear. These pieces can be accessorised with vibrant ties or pocket squares, the perfect match for your partner during the Spring Horseracing Season. As usual, it’s a balancing act, lose one layer, for example the knit or jumper, but be aware you may need to compensate with something lighter. Universally though, it’s time to do away with the dreary tones and let the colour come to the surface.

THE TOP PACIFIC IN PERIL OUR GREAT PACIFIC TURNED RUBBISH DUMP
Scientists and volunteers onboard 30 boats have spent the last month collecting data on the large mass of plastic garbage floating in the Pacific Ocean. The workers have returned to San Francisco and have revealed that most of the trash they analysed was medium to large-sized pieces as opposed to tiny ones.
and university dropout, Boyan Slat, who has developed a technology which he says can start removing the rubbish by the end of the decade. The mass of debris, which has essentially been deemed a ticking time bomb, is concentrated by the Pacific Ocean’s circular currents. This is something Slat will use to his advantage.
The expedition has gathered data that is more extensive than what has been collected in the last 4 decades. The team, are currently using GPS and a smartphone app to search for and record the plastic waste. They are also collecting rubbish samples which are counted and recorded in the Netherlands.
The team are leading a mammoth investigation into the tons of plastic waste floating between the west coast of the United States and the Island of Hawaii. According to estimates, the floating garbage site covers an area almost half the size of Queensland. According to members of the ‘Ocean Cleanup’ group, failing to act soon will see the larger pieces break up into dangerous microplastics, which will threaten to harm marine life and enter the human food chain.
