She was a native of Reidsville and a resident of Atlanta, Georgia for the majority of her life. Attending the local public schools, she was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1955. Ms. Crawford pursued further education at Spelman College, receiving a degree in Sociology. After furthering her studies at Atlanta University and University of Tennessee, Carolyn taught at Bogg’s Academy in Jefferson County, Georgia. She then returned to Spelman and worked as an Assistant to the Dean. Next, Carolyn moved to Knoxville College where she worked in the Counseling and Career Development Department; later, she became employed by Fisk University as a counselor and career development specialist.

Finally, Carolyn, fondly known as “C.C.” to her colleagues, worked for the National Conference of Black Mayors from 1978 until she retired in 2006. While employed there, Carolyn became a member of the Board of Directors and President for the National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners. She also took classes to become a Certified Meeting Planner. As a result, Carolyn reached out to facilities around the country to increase the number of African Americans who held higher management positions. Another passion in her life was educating the nation’s youth. She directed numerous youth-centered projects that involved helping kids to get out and see beyond their own community by taking them to Historically Black Colleges and helping them secure college scholarships. In conjunction with her job and her own pleasure, Carolyn traveled quite extensively throughout the United States, Africa, Europe and South America.

To Carolyn Crawford: A Farewell to one of God’s Angels Always positive with a smile on her face She was steadfast and prepared to win any race. Full of energy, fun and incredible zeal Taking the “high-road” to us she would appeal. Planning meetings, conferences and seminars were a breeze Everything she executed with such ease. Dedicated to her mother, sisters, brother, nephews and nieces Her family was a joy and completed her life pieces. We will remember CC with affection and love Now, that God has summoned her to be with Him above. One of His angels we know she’s been called And her memory for us will remain enthralled.

Expressions of Gratitude

If you vowed to pray for Carolyn, We thank you for your prayers. If you were concerned about her And telephoned to inquire about her recovery, We thank you for your call. If Carolyn was in your thoughts And you expressed any act of kindness, We thank you.

For the cards, the visits, the food given Or any act or expression of kindness, We thank you. We thank you for all remembrances That helped us endure our sorrow. We pray that God bless and shower His love Upon each and everyone of you.
