Introduction
While the 1950s may have been the decade when scooters became established, it was during the 1960s that the culture surrounding them began to express
itself. What caused it is open to debate, but there is no denying that this was the decade when everything happened, and scooters played an important part in that history Most people will refer back to the mod era and the scooter’s central role within it, yet even so, things were heating up beforehand and well after the movement was over.
One thing is for certain – as the years rolled on the changes within scooter ownership and the scene that evolved around it went through many stages Much of this history has already been well documented in text over the years and so the idea of this book, and those in the series that follow, is to tell it differently. As the saying goes, a picture paints a thousand words and this is the story of 1960s scootering told through images. There are captions giving general explanations but it’s the photographs themselves which encapsulate that era in time and tell the real tale of how it all happened
