PURCHASE ADVICE A seller’s opinion of his bike’s condition might not necessarily be the same as yours, so please bear that in mind. As a rough guide, here is an idea of what you can reasonably expect in the way of condition:

IMMACULATE: Should be almost as good as when it left the showroom with little or no fault to bodywork or to its mechanical condition. May also come with the balance of the manufacturers’ warranty.

GOOD CONDITION: May show a few stone chips or other fair wear and tear for the age. You should expect it to come with service history, either from a main or a reputable dealer.

They should also be your first point of call if you cannot get a satisfactory conclusion to any unresolved issue from a trader. If the seller is a private individual, then you have no comeback under the law and it is a case of ‘caveat emptor’ (buyer beware).
