The root ahov is best translated into English by the simple word “love”. The root hashoq is a little more intricate and means, basically, “to join together,” “to cling” and, of course, hence, “to live.” The third Hebrew root havov conveys the idea of covering or hiding, as for instance, hiding or shielding in one’s bosom in order to protect, and hence it is an action actuated by love. Now, having armed you with these three principal Hebrew word-roots, let us try an interesting experiment.
In the Hebrew of the Tenach, the so-called Old Testament, are three principal Hebrew wordroots from which is derived the concept, the idea, of love. The root ( אהבahov) is the most common, appearing at least 237 times throughout the Tenach, whilst ( חשקhashoq) is found approximately 15 times and ( חבאhavov) but once.
Since I accept the Bible as the supreme revelation of and from God, it is to the Holy Scriptures I must ask you to turn for this demonstration.
Revelation MY DEAR FRIENDS, in the Talmud it is recorded that in the ancient days of Israel, on the Sabbath, the outgoing Temple watch in Jerusalem would greet the incoming watch with these words: “May He Who put His Name on this house, put among you love, brotherhood, peace and friendship”! (Berakot, 12a) Now it will not have escaped your attention that in this affable greeting love is the leader. The English Jewish novelist, Grace Aguilar (1816 – 1847) writes: “Love is the voice of God. Love is the rule of heaven!” (Vale of Cedars, 1850, Ch. 34, p. 219) Now frankly! Is this mere novelist’s nonsense or is it a magnificent fact?
The Vineyard
Would you grant me the favour and privilege of your partnership as I bring to you joyous proof that Grace Aguilar was expressing fact, blessed fact?
2
Suppose I were to place in your hands right now a copy of the Hebrew Bible. To which section or book in our Holy Scriptures would you turn to discover the major expression of love, particularly God’s love as encased in the very words of the novelist I quoted earlier?
Would you turn to the Torah, the Law? To the Neviim, the Prophets? To the Psalms, perhaps? Well, at first thought, certainly not to the Law for what has Law to do with Love. Surely the word Law leads our thoughts rather more into the halls of justice than into the green pastures of love, doesn’t it?
One who has been described as the “prince of Bible expositors” (Dr G Campbell Morgan) has declared that “the word love is a lonely stranger in the first four books” of the Bible.
My friends, he is right. Moreover, he is statistically right! In the whole 4,890 verses of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers, there are only nineteen tender touches actually expressed by
the actual word “love”, and where it is used I discover it to be almost entirely restricted or limited to the state or condition of mere human affection for family, friends, female, or food!
On the admittedly higher plane of reciprocal love between God and man I find only two references and these appear like two lonely index arrows. One is in Exodus (Exodus 20:6) pointing from God to man where God declares, as a principle, His love-attitude to those who love Him; the other is in Leviticus (Leviticus 19:18, 34), where love to one’s neighbour is Divinely commanded.
3
In Genesis what I may call the love-flow between God and man is implied but once (Genesis 29:32); in Exodus it is once stated as a principle; in Leviticus it is not stated at all as interflowing between God and man, but merely as a dutiful attitude between man and man. When we reach the fourth book Numbers, the book of the wilderness, the book of futility and failure, it is poetic that love is not mentioned once – neither

of God to man, of man to God, or of man to man. Not that God’s love cannot be detected. Don’t be deceived on this point. God’s love can be detected. (e.g. Genesis 29:32) However, love is indeed a lonely verbal stranger in the first four books. Now, since this is so, is it not therefore surely reasonable to expect this phenomenon to persist through the pages of the fifth and final book of Torah, the Law? Why, its very name Deuteronomy – meaning repetition of the Law – scarcely invites hope to the contrary. Is it not true that the very words “LAW” and “LOVE” invoke in our minds ideas quite divorced from each other? But, my friends, I have a real surprise for you. Indeed, you may find this message full of surprises, and here is the first one, for our rapturous revelation of Divine Love is, contrary to expectations, securely embedded in Divine Law; yes, indeed, Divine Law is – as it were – the costly setting from which blazes this gem of Divine Love. Let me illustrate. I remember, many years ago, travelling by automobile in the northern areas of Victoria, in Australia. I had left a town called Ouyen and was on my way to Mildura, on the great river Murray, and in those days I had to pass through a very sandy area. Mile after mile I travelled over undulating yellow sand dunes when, suddenly and utterly without warning, as I came to the crest of another dune, a green and glowing glory literally burst into sight. I had entered those vast areas irrigated by the river and the town that I was approaching had flung out far before me a green carpet of welcome. It was an unforgettable sight.

of Deuteronomy. Yes indeed, we approach our theme of love, not on the feathery cushion of feeling necessarily, but on the flinty causeway of figures. Statistics! In my Hebrew Bible I have traced no less than twenty-seven references to “love” in Deuteronomy. Twenty-three are from the Hebrew root ahov, three from hashoq, and one from havov. Of the twenty-seven references to love in Deuteronomy, only six relate to love on the purely human plane, whereas God’s love to man absorbs nine references, and man’s enjoined love to God twelve references. To put this another way, the love-relationship between God and man absorbs three-quarters of the love references in Devarim (Deuteronomy). Moreover, whereas the common word ahov is used of both man and God, the more intensely tender words — only four times employed — are thrice used to describe the quality of God’s love. Now those statistics were worth finding. Don’t you think so? Here, for instance, are some typical quotations: “The Eternal did not set His love (hashoq) upon you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people — for you were the fewest of all peoples — but because the Eternal loved (ahov) you ...” (Deuteronomy 7:7,8a) “Only the Eternal had a delight (hashoq) in your fathers to love (ahov) them ...” (Deuteronomy 10:15a) “... but the Eternal your God(s) turned the curse into a blessing unto you, because the Eternal your God(s) loved (ahov) you.” (Deuteronomy 23:6b; English tr. 23:5b)
“Yes, He loves (havov) the peoples ...” (Deuteronomy 33:3a)
“And because He loved (ahov) your fathers, and chose his seed after him ...” (Deuteronomy 4:37)
I have made a literal translation of Deuteronomy 4:37, last quoted, to show the remarkable use in the Hebrew text of the expression “his seed after him.” This points to the limitation of the Divine choice to Jacob’s seed. Abraham Ibn Ezra (b. 1092) wisely observes that had the original Hebrew text employed the plural form another eight peoples, as well as the Hebrews, might have been Scripturally regarded as being chosen people — Divinely chosen to fulfil a Divine commission.
Now, let us learn again from another princely expositor — Moses.
Lifting the Sacred Record from the unhonored grave of Israel’s immediate past generation, the generation that came out of Egypt, Moses sweeps aside the curtain of current ignorance from his contemporaries, and into the illumined ark of their understanding he reverently deposits the perfect Law of the Lord.
The new generation, about to enter the Promised Land under Joshua, is also about to undergo the new experience of the acquisition by Divine grant of a new possession, the Land of Canaan. Both their faith and their reason will be tested; therefore they are given a new revelation of God Who alone must be the Object of their faith and the Answer to their reason.
The great lesson of Devarim, Deuteronomy, and hence the last lesson of Chumash, the Five Books,
is therefore poetically enough, God’s LOVE related to but not opposed to — but rather embedded in — God’s LAW.
One final revelation. Israel is about to pass over into the Land of Promise — now listen — UNCIRCUMCISED! Yes,indeed! Without the ot brit kodesh, the “Sign of the Holy Covenant”!
In this remarkable manner God reveals that Canaan was a gift of Divine grace, not a reward for human merit through Law-observance.
Deuteronomy, this precious book, thus reveals a Divine attitude to man that has remained unchanged down the ages and is explicitly declared in our Jewish New Covenant, the New Testament, in this clear statement:
“The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Adonainu Yeshua HaMashiach.” (Romans 6:23)
May we find anew God’s love as expressed so poetically and beautifully not only in the Book of Deuteronomy but also in the Person of our great and glorious Messiah-Redeemer.

Faster Healing improving the surface of dental implants. “Many articles and trials have shown plasma’s amazing effect on the surface of implants but there was no way to do this practically because the plasma effect on the surface is limited in time and thus not possible to be performed in the factory, so they asked us to build a ‘chairside’ machine designed to be operated in the dental clinic. We did feasibility studies and saw that our cold plasma does the job in a perfect way. Then we came up with a very sophisticated idea for applying the plasma in the clinic, and all the IP went in this direction.” Nova Plasma signed a licensing agreement with a leading player in the dental market, and is moving from development to production in preparation for introducing Active+ later this year. Nova Plasma’s cold-plasma platform technology could be applied to many other implants, including pacemakers, artificial joints and catheters. Lam explains that the integration and stability of all implants are improved by their wettability (hydrophilicity). Plasma is great for activating hydrophilicity, but the effects deteriorate in the time lapse between manufacturing and implantation. Nova’s Active+ Plasma Capsule solves that problem by activating the plasma surface treatment immediately before implantation. The resulting “super hydrophilic” implant reduces

“This product is at the end of development, preparing for clinical trials starting in October,” says Lam. “The need is huge in the field of breast implants because there are complications in up to 30 percent of cases. In addition, the aesthetic results are expected to be improved using ActiveSi technology. We’ll start taking it to market in a controlled manner in a few leading medical centers in Europe. We believe it will be at a fully commercial stage in 2019.”
A $1.5 million financing round has just been launched to advance Nova Plasma’s next product, Active Si, for modifying the surface of silicone breast implants before they are dipped in antibiotic solution prior to implantation. A unique cold-plasma activation platform from Israeli company Nova Plasma is poised to hasten healing and reduce infection after the placement of all kinds of surgical implants, from dental to breast. The first application of the company’s Active+ Plasma Capsule is a desktop device that modifies the surface chemistry of dental implants in a 30-second procedure right before implantation, for maximum effectiveness. Plasma, a partially ionized gas, has only recently been discovered to have vast potential in medical settings to weld tissue, control bleeding, enhance tissue repair, disinfect and even destroy cancer cells. Nova Plasma was cofounded in 2012 by two Israeli brothers, CEO Ronen Lam and CTO Amnon Lam, along with Chen Porat. The Lams pioneered the activation of cold plasma at their previous company, IonMed, which is focused on sealing incisions. That and nothing short of that, is the single and the singular theme the Bible pursues. One might adapt the words of the Psalmist and cry:
It resembles the precious olive oil which Moses was commanded to employ for the perpetual menorah, the everlasting light, in the midst of Israel as recorded in the opening verses of Leviticus, Chapter 24.
“It is like the excellent oil upon the head . . . “ (Psalm 133:2)
Redemption, that cries triumphantly to the sword-bearing cherubim that guard man’s access to the Tree of Life, to put up the merciful sword, for at last, Man is ready to partake and live for ever!
Weighing some 229 pounds troy (188 1⁄2 pounds avoirdupois), this candlestick, with its seven points of illumination, has persisted as a revered symbol in Israel, and it is fascinating to behold it in this present day, as the official
In the fourth verse of this same chapter the “continual light” is also called “the pure light.” Pure and perpetual was the candlestick which shined in the midst of these descendants of Shem, in the line of the Seed of the Woman. Redemption, that rings out the clarion call of mankind’s jubilee until the very canopies of time and space echo and re-echo with its melody and all Creation catches up the everlasting refrain, the trees clap their hands for joy and the exquisite perfumes of an eternal spring intoxicate the nostrils of liberated Man until he falls adoringly at the feet of Redemption’s Glorious Author, and cries “My Lord, and my God!”
Redemption that rips the content from the ugly bodies of frustration, disappointment, and dissatisfaction, and leaves these monstrous giants prone upon the sword of human experience to trouble the groaning heart of humanity no more!
The Menorah of Abraham Recently, I read a statement made by one of our modern Jewish writers with which I find myself in hearty agreement. Here is what was written: “Strictly speaking, from the opening word of Genesis to the closing word of Chronicles, the Hebrew Bible pursues but a single theme, unfalteringly and without digression.” Now, although this writer may not mean exactly what I mean — of course, he may, — yet I am quoting him because the statement he made is truth, solid truth. Truth, clad in printer’s ink, striding through the minds of men.
The Vineyard
Surely, “the Hebrew Bible pursues but a single theme,” and that theme, unquestionably, is REDEMPTION. Redemption in the very widest sense your most vivid imagination can supply. Redemption that sweeps the skies of heaven and scours the depths of hades. Redemption that encircles humanity in a blessed bracelet of benediction.

symbol of the new-born State of Israel!
However, I imagine the symbolism of the lampstand with its seven points of illumination, is wider and deeper than is suspected. May I give you a few suggestive thoughts?
As you are aware, seven is recognised as the number which symbolises spiritual perfection, and light, as a symbol, surely needs no comment from me. Here, then, in the Menorah of Israel, we find the symbol of perfect spiritual illumination, pure and perpetual.
11
Indubitably, the origin of all that this symbolism could possibly convey, is to be found rooted in the pristine Divine Legacy of Redemption through the Seed of the Woman as bestowed by God in the Edenic Garden.
We find this Legacy of Eden working out purposively until it is amplified and elucidated, to and through Abraham some 2,000 years later.
August 2017
Rabbi D A de Sola comments correctly on this passage of the law as follows: and here I quote him:
This gracious Abrahamic covenant was born of Divine grace, delivered whilst Abraham was yet uncircumcised, sealed by God’s oath and ratified by sacrifice; sacrifice Divinely initiated, the very circumstances of which illustrate and demonstrate this unconditional content in symbolic wonder in Genesis 15:17 where we read that “when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces” of the sacrifice.
The advancing light of this Menorah of the Ages is inextinguishable because its source is the Divine faithfulness and its covenant clauses unconditional and quite independent of human failure, and I beg to disagree with any who suggest the contrary.
“And in you shall all the families of the earth be blessed.”
The seventh effulgence sends its radiancy forth in glorious guarantee:
Hitler found this promise still potent and all Jew-haters will share his experience.
“And him that curses you will I curse.”
The sixth flashes its warning beacon:
“And I will bless those that bless you.”
The Menorah of Abraham God’s unconditional covenant with Abraham, as initially recorded in Genesis 12:1-4, possesses seven precious points of promise which illumine Redemption’s priceless plan and patrimony like the seven-fold light of Israel’s Menorah. For this reason, in my book “OUT OF THE CLOUDS,” I have likened this Abrahamic covenant to the sevenfold Menorah of Divine Light brightening the cheerless gloom of human futility. Come! Using the sacred fire from the God patterned and provided Altar of Sacrifice, let us light in succession each of the seven oil-soaked outlets in this Menorah-Covenant of Promise. The first flame of warranty shines its light into our souls with these gracious words: “I will make of you a great nation.” The second illuminant warms us with its pledge: “And I will bless you.” As if in harmonic and alacric response, the third ray scintillates the sparkling assurance: “And make thy name great.” The central shaft that bears the six branches next sends forth its beam: “And you will be a blessing.”
The Vineyard
The fifth halo of hope surrounds not only Abraham but every friend of the Jewish people down the ages:
12
“The flaming fire which appear in the midst of the smoking furnace, was the symbol of the Divine Presence, ratifying the Covenant, by passing between the pieces. The reason why Abram did not also pass between the pieces, was because there was nothing in this Covenant obligatory on his side.”
That is the end of the quotation, and it should be the end of our anxiety regarding the ultimate issues of the future of the race. Not extinction by hydrogen bombs, but redemption by Divine Grace, totally apart from human effort or inertia, merit or demerit.
God alone, through the Instrumentality of the Promised Seed of the Woman, will pour forth this beneficence upon mankind.
My friends, if you will meditate carefully over every one of those seven points of Divine illumination in this Abrahamic Menorah of the Ages, and then check them over against world history, ancient and modern, you will find them all in a continuous process of fulfilment not exhausted even yet.
Like a precious pebble of promise dropped by Divine Grace from heaven into the torpid waters of humanity’s spiritual inertia, the resultant ripple-circles ever widen in diameter until they reach the utmost limit of the shores of entire racial bliss for the totality of all mankind.
Observe the ever widening circles of blessing in this seven-fold unconditional Divine covenant with Abraham:
First, the Individual –
“I will bless you.”
Second, the Family –
“I will make your name great.”
Third, the Nation –
“I will make of you a great nation.”
Fourth, the Race –
“In you shall all the families of the earth be blessed.”
May this Abrahamic Menorah of the Ages burn brightly in the midst of human darkness and may it kindle a flame of hope in your soul as it does in mine; we shall follow its blessed beams to the ends of the earth in our succeeding messages.

Your New Chair or Toolbox could be Made rom Domestic Waste
But the problem of toxic dumping persists.
The river, too, has gotten healthier since a 2001 master plan was put in place by the Kishon River Authority to rehabilitate the waterway.
“When you’re sharp in your mind it’s amazing what you can achieve,” says Tamir, who advises many people on the approach he used to regain his health.
immune therapy in Bavaria, and mind-training techniques. And with this combination, he has managed to put his cancer in remission.
Israeli company’s patented process removes minerals from household waste and turns remaining polymers and cellulose into new thermoplastic material. Back in 1999, Yuval Tamir was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer and told he had only a few weeks to live. Today, Yuval and his wife, Tal, head a company called Infimer. The propriety technology transforms unsorted municipal solid waste into an inexpensive raw material for the plastic industry that can be used to manufacture anything from toolboxes to lawn furniture to plumbing pipes. There is a direct relationship between his dire prognosis and his budding business. “I served in the Israeli Navy for 20 years and two more years in a naval intelligence unit, and then a few months after I retired I found myself with cancer,” Tamir tells ISRAEL21c.
Infimer Technologies, founded in 2013, developed a patented process to remove the minerals from household waste and turn the remaining polymers and cellulose material into a new thermoplastic material.
“My goal is to offer a solution, and I saw that the problem stems from the domestic waste we all produce,” says Tamir. “Sorting it is very expensive and sometimes impossible, so the majority goes to landfills or incineration or ocean-dumping.” About half of municipal waste is made up of plastics.
He felt strongly that determining what had caused the cancer was the key to conquering it. His inquiries led to government-sponsored studies showing an increased incidence of cancer and chronic diseases among hundreds of naval commando divers exposed to toxic pollution in Israel’s Kishon River and Haifa Bay up until 1995.
“Instead of cutting trees or creating bioplastics we create our materials from waste,” says Tamir. “We are the only one in the world with this holistic solution for domestic waste.”
The Vineyard
With support from the Defense Ministry, Tamir tried a variety of alternative healing methods, including ridding his body of toxins such as sugar, tackling all emotional stress, a hyperthermia
14
According to Oren Zahavi, Infimer’s VP for business development, traditional recycling technologies focus on sorting and separating different materials in the waste stream so that they can be as close as possible in their properties to the original material.
“This requirement does not allow for recycling of household mixed waste. In contrast, Infimer is a unique technology that creates a completely new thermoplastic material from many different materials in municipal waste and does not require separating them into different waste streams,” Zahavi tells ISRAEL21c.
The United Nations Environment Program estimates that only a quarter of the billion tons of municipal waste produced globally each year is recycled or recovered. Current technologies cannot handle the enormous volumes of waste in a sustainable, cost-effective and time-efficient manner, says Tamir.
The name “Infimer” conveys the idea of an infinite polymer, turning unsorted municipal solid waste into a material with seemingly infinite possibilities.
FROM TOOL BOXES TO DECK TILES The company opened a factory at Kibbutz Barkai in mid-2015, which manufactures Infimer material from waste on an industrial scale. The first production line has a 500kg/ hour capacity.
The first commercial order came from a large Israeli plastics manufacturer planning to
use Infimer material to produce pallets and storage products.
The plant displays sample items made by different manufacturers using Infimer: Tool boxes, work tables, pallets, deck tiles, building materials, plumbing pipes and garden furniture are among the possibilities.
“We are now conducting tests with several companies in Israel and in a few other countries,” says Tamir.
Infimer USA, in Ohio, is the exclusive US licensee for Infimer’s groundbreaking technology.
“Our production lines are scalable, with our planned standard line producing two tons per hour,” Tamir relates. “We could establish an Infimer factory near any plastics manufacturer to produce our material from any domestic waste.”
Infimer has about 15 employees and raised $2.4 million in March 2015 through a merger with EZ Energy, a Tel-Aviv Stock Exchange-listed company. The merged entity is traded on TASE as INFR.
15
In 2016, Infimer received an additional ₪1.7 million (approximately US$450,000) from the Israel Innovation Authority as well as additional investments totaling over ₪5 million.
