NEWSLETTER Charger network expands Council is expanding its electric vehicle fast charging network following the popularity of the Mosman Square Car Park charging station. Two new Evie Networks electric vehicle fast chargers will be installed in Raglan Street West car park in Mosman Junction to cater for the expected significant growth in the use of chargers as more motorists opt for electric vehicles in coming years. A record 100 charging hours were clocked up in August by the existing Mosman Square charger, marking a major milestone by saving a total of 30,000 kgs of CO2 emissions since its installation in December 2020. Council energy is already being supplied by renewable sources as part of a deal secured along with 24 other participating councils. Solar panels are being installed on Mosman Civic Centre, solar panels and a battery at the Council works depot and battery storage and batteries at the Marie Bashir Sports Hall to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve sustainability.

Bradleys Head Boardwalk

Balmoral figs The important environmental role of the impressive figs lining The Esplanade at Balmoral is being revealed through digital technology. After downloading a free interactive app called CMyTrees from the App Store or Google Play, with the app open, users can scan a QR code displayed at each tree to check its biometrics and carbon storage levels. Council’s arborists assessed the trees so that the app can display their level of CO2 uptake and ever-increasing carbon sequestration. The CMyTrees app has been designed to display and share the carbon storage in large trees around Australia via a real-time dashboard to raise awareness of their environmental importance, particularly in urbanised areas.

A new boardwalk and footpath featuring specially commissioned artwork has been completed, filling in the ‘missing link’ to Taronga Zoo wharf and the Manly to Bondi walk. Sustainable elements have been built into the project, with about 100 recycled tyres used in the footpath’s permeable paving and concrete path which was made from low carbon ENVISIA concrete. The new walkway includes lighting and steel sculptures by award-winning Indigenous artist Maddison Gibbs, evoking spirit figures caring for the land and sea that can be seen along the boardwalk. The works were funded by the NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program together with Mosman Council.

Mural brightens car park

Seagrass restoration project The walls of the Vista Street car park have been brightened by the addition of a colourful large-scale mural depicting native botanicals. The floor to ceiling 40sqm mural featuring native flora by artist Melanie Caple can be seen from the entrance to the car park. The work aims to beautify the public space which is used by patrons accessing the car park.
