ADULT STUDENT SERVICES The Office of Adult Student Services assists nontraditional students who often have to balance family, work and school responsibilities. Our support services include: n Advisement n Registration n Adult Student Welcome

Whether you are just beginning or returning to complete an undergraduate degree, we recognize your unique needs and circumstances as an adult learner and support your efforts to achieve your academic and personal goals.

q APPLY & PAY FEE If you are pursuing a degree:

Apply online at www.MissouriState.edu/apply.

If you are taking courses for personal interest or for professional development:

Apply online at www.MissouriState.edu/apply or complete a Course Enrollment Form found online at www.MissouriState.edu/ EnrollmentForm to be admitted as a nondegree-seeking student.

q SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS

Request transcripts from each institution where you have earned college credit. If you have less than 24 college credit hours to transfer, request a copy of your high school transcript. All transcripts are to be sent to the Office of Admissions at:

ACT or SAT test scores are not required for admission of students who are age 22 or older.

q COMPLETE THE FREE APPLICATION for

FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA)

To be considered for federal financial aid, you must complete the FAFSA found online at www.Fafsa.gov. The priority deadline for FAFSA applications is February 1st. However, if you apply after the deadline, you may still be considered for many of the basic aid programs. The Missouri State FAFSA school code is 002503. For continued aid, you must file a FAFSA application every year. You can file as early as October 1st. EO/AA/M/F/Veterans/Disability/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity.


q SET UP BearPass ID & PASSWORD

My Missouri State is the portal through which you access university resources such as: email, grades, your accounts, and complete university administrative processes. To access your portal you will need your BearPass number (also referred to as your M#). You are assigned a BearPass number upon admission. This number gives you access to the My Missouri State portal. To access My Missouri State, go to My.MissouriState.edu and click “Get an Account.” Follow the step-by-step process to establish your BearPass login and password and to set up your computer accounts.

q SCHEDULE PLACEMENT TESTS

Students without prior college credit or ACT/SAT scores in English composition and mathematics will automatically be placed into beginning levels of those subjects unless a placement test is administered. Call the Adult Student Services Office at 417-836-6929 to schedule your test.

q SEEK ADVISEMENT

Adult, evening, and undecided students can seek advisement through the Office of Adult Student Services. We can help you prepare for your first semester registration.

q REGISTER FOR CLASSES

Nontraditional students are not required to seek advisement and registration through the traditional freshman Student Orientation, Advisement and Registration (SOAR) program. Our staff will assist you with class selection and getting registered through My Missouri State.

q PLAN TO ATTEND ORIENTATION

An orientation session, called the Adult Student Welcome, is offered during the fall and spring semesters to introduce you to the campus and to basic university policies and procedures.

q RESERVE YOUR BOOKS

Once you have registered for your classes you can view your booklist from My Missouri State. To reserve your books from the MSU Bookstore go to www.MissouriState.edu/ReserveBooks. Your books will be charged to your university account when you pick them up the week before classes start.

q GET YOUR BearPass CARD

The BearPass Card is your official university identification card. All Springfield campus students can obtain a BearPass Card at Plaster Student Union, room 128.

q GET YOUR PARKING PERMIT

A parking permit must be purchased and displayed if you intend to park on university property. Evening permits are available at a reduced rate for students whose classes begin at or after 4pm. Permits can be purchased online through the My Missouri State portal.

q VETERAN STUDENTS
