Start the Transfer Process Become a Bear: Checklist for Students Do you want to be a Bear? Begin your transfer process by following the steps below.  Review our admissions requirements for transfer students:  You must have completed 24 or more transferable hours and a 2.0 GPA or higher.  If you have completed fewer than 24 hours, then you must have a 2.0 GPA and meet the freshman admission requirements.  Find more information here: http://www.missouristate.edu/transfer/transferadmissionpolicy.htm  Submit your application.  You may apply for admission as early as one year before you wish to transfer. Applying early may allow you to register with current students and help you meet scholarship deadlines.  Complete the Undergraduate Admission Application. The $35 fee is waived for current Missouri State West Plains students.  You may complete the online application here: https://polar.missouristate.edu:9080/prod/bwskalog.P_DispLoginNon  Send your official college transcripts.  Request that your MSU-West Plains transcripts be sent electronically from Records and Registration in Cass Hall to the Missouri State University Office of Admissions. There is no charge for this service. You don’t have to complete your current coursework before sending transcripts.  Transcripts from any other universities attended must also be sent to Missouri State Office of Admissions.  When you graduate or complete the semester, request that a final transcript be mailed directly to: Office of Admissions Missouri State University 901 S. Transfer Students You are considered a transfer student if you have enrolled in another regionally accredited college or university following your graduation from high school. Your eligibility for admission will be based on the number of credit hours you have completed. For more information, you may visit http://www.missouristate.edu/transfer/.

2. Send official transcripts If you have completed course work at your current college, please send those transcripts with your application. You should also send transcripts from any additional colleges or universities that you have attended. Priority Deadlines Both your university and financial aid applications have important deadlines which you should be sure to meet. The following dates will help you stay on track as you prepare for your time at Missouri State. October 1 December 20 March 1 May 20 July 20

FAFSA: Federal Application for Student Aid Federal Student Aid is responsible for managing the student financial assistance programs. These programs provide grants, loans, and work-study funds to students attending college or career school. It is important to complete your FAFSA prior to the March 31 priority deadline to ensure eligibility for grants and work-study, as these funds are limited.   

To apply for student aid online, please go to the FAFSA website at https://fafsa.ed.gov/. You must know the school code to complete the FAFSA application. The Missouri State University school code is 002503. You MUST complete your FAFSA application by April 1 to be considered for aid from the state of Missouri.

Admission Decision You will receive notification of your application decision via the contact information you provided. You should hear from us within three weeks of the date we receive your application, fee (waived for MSU-West Plains students) and all required transcripts and documentation. If you are a new student, you will receive information regarding orientation, registration, housing and financial aid, as well as other information to help you prepare for your first semester. Be sure to check that your welcome folder includes your student identification number (BearPass ID), as this is your user name for MSU’s student portal and BlackBoard access. You can create your accounts at http://cams.missouristate.edu/.

Selected MSU-West Plains scholarships (i.e., Board of Governors, Chancellor’s, Deans’, and Leadership) offered by the West Plains campus are transferrable to the Springfield campus by students who meet West Plains renewal criteria. Students will receive the Springfield campus value for the corresponding scholarship (Board of Governors, Provost, Deans’, and Leadership, respectively). These scholarships can be combined with other MSU-Springfield campus scholarships to a combined maximum value of $4,500 per year, as well as with any of the out of state fee waivers.

Advising Each department and academic program has a specific transfer advisor to help you understand our program requirements, review your transfer credit and ease your transition to Missouri State. You should schedule an appointment with your academic area’s transfer advisor upon admittance to Missouri State. This meeting will help you develop an academic plan and determine the appropriate classes for your first semester at MSU. You must meet with an advisor to register for classes. If you plan to stay on the MSU-West Plains campus and complete a bachelor’s degree completion program through MSU Outreach, you may visit the staff in Gohn Hall on the West Plains campus, or contact Deanna Smith, Outreach Coordinator at (417) 255-7931 or DeannaSmith@MissouriState.edu for advisor contact information.

Undecided Advisors If you are trying to decide among several majors or have not declared a major, contact the transfer advisor for undeclared student at the Academic Advisement Center, (417) 836-5258.

Common Course Offerings Courses are usually offered fall or spring in West Plains (day or evening by live instruction or videoconference) or online. These courses only represent typical offerings available to students to complete the required 35 upper-division hours in agriculture required for the major. Additional courses are being made available to off-campus students all the time. Internship Opportunities Most students choose to complete internships for upper-division MSU credit. Internships are selected with the help of your advisor and may be completed at a location convenient to the individual student. Additional Courses Available Through the Consortium of Five Universities Missouri State has entered into an agreement with the University of Central Missouri, Northwest Missouri State University, Truman State University and Southeast Missouri State University which allows MSU students to take courses offered online by a partner institution for credit toward the MSU degree.
