Process Safety Management

A Guide for SET West Operations Leaders The purpose of SET West Operations is to deliver safe, reliable, efficient and environmentally responsible operations and projects.

President’s Message At SET West, we gather, process, store and transport hazardous materials, including high pressure gases and liquid hydrocarbons. It is imperative that we prevent the release of hazardous materials from our plants, pipelines and storage facilities. This is what Process Safety Management (PSM) is all about – a proven method of reducing the risk of accidents and the harm that could result to people and property. We have made PSM a high priority at SET West for years, but we strive to get better. To do that we need active leadership and engaged employee commitment. This brochure sets out our expectation of the leadership to support a zero process safety incident culture at SET West.

To be effective, we need the following work environment: • Leaders need to be fully aware of the possibility that something could go wrong, and to constantly focus on preventing Process Safety incidents • Leaders must listen to frontline employees for signs and symptoms of Process Safety risks, and take action as needed • Employees and contractors need to speak up and report any Process Safety risks, incidents or near incidents • Incidents must be investigated and corrective actions put in place to prevent recurrence • Operational changes must be minimized and managed carefully when they are required to reduce Process Safety risks Please read this brochure to understand your responsibility. Our active engagement of PSM will help keep our facilities safe and prevent harm to our employees, contractors and the public around us. Thanks for your support of this important initiative.

Doug Bloom President, SET West
