ModernHaus SoHo New York City

ModernHaus SoHo, New York

BACKGROUND Thor Equities Group opened ModernHaus SoHo in April (2021) featuring 114 rooms, each with a stunning New York City view – something no other Manhattan hotel can claim. Housed in the former James Hotel, it’s SoHo’s best nightlife spot, thanks to its 18th-floor rooftop bar, JIMMY, with a pool and 360-degree views of lower Manhattan. Drawing heavily from SoHo’s art heritage, the property features a one-of-a-kind art collection, personally curated by Thor’s director, Jack J. Sitt.

WHAT’S IT LIKE? “With ModernHaus SoHo, our goal was to create a communal living room and gathering point in SoHo for New Yorkers and visitors alike,” explains Sitt. “The idea of community was built into every component of the property; I wanted to mimic the one-stop-shop feeling of a members’ club, but keep it accessible for all, which is rare for NYC.” He wanted guests to use ModernHaus as “the living room of SoHo – a social gathering point in the neighbourhood for any type of occasion or celebration, as formal or informal as they like”, and this has been achieved. There’s also plenty of outdoor space, including the iconic rooftop pool area, creating an urban resort vibe. Inspired by the Bauhaus art movement of the beginning of the 20th century, ModernHaus SoHo›s design focuses on clean lines, geometric harmony, and large windows. BEST FOR A sociable stay

FOOD AND DRINK Veranda’s globally inspired American menu has been created by Michelin-star chef George Mendes and hospitality industry veteran David Rabin. With a retractable roof, this convivial venue is perfect for all seasons. And JIMMY, the rooftop pool deck bar, has become one of Manhattan’s top nightspots. “Our goal at JIMMY was to be a public version of a private club like Dumbo House or Soho Beach House in Miami,” says Rabin. “We think JIMMY works best when the crowd is curated to reflect the diversity that makes NYC tick. So, we work hard to make sure JIMMY
