ÂťThe Fist Its that time of year again when we start counting the weeks till the snow falls. It seems just like yesterday that we were putting together our first issue of Clinch, and an incredible number of things have changed in the world of MotorFist since this time last year. MotorFist has grown from a couple of people working out of remote offices into a proper company. We now have a big office, a full staff of great people handling everything from sales to finances, our own coffee machine and a modified Honda Ruckus scooter for general cruising around town and grabbing the mail. But probably the biggest change is in the size of our line. Last year we basically tested the market to see if snowmobilers were ready for what we had to offer. We produced the Rekon Jacket and Bib in limited numbers for our first year and we were overwhelmed with the response. Many sizes quickly sold out and we couldn't believe the positive feedback received from snowmobilers and dealers alike. This proved to us that the industry was definitely ready for specialized outerwear that offers great performance, longevity and value. The design and production staff has been working around the clock on a whole slew of new garments. As you will see in the gear section of this magazine, the line is greatly expanded, and aside from helmets and boots it includes pretty much everything a snowmobiler needs to stay dry, comfortable and safe in the backcountry. One of our primary goals when designing our gear was to ensure that the clothing is not obtrusive to your snowmobiling experience. If you have to think about your gear while you are on the snow then there is something wrong and it's not working correctly. There are many more important things to think about; like what line you are going to take through those trees or how you really don't want to drop into that steep bowl. We have gone to great lengths to ensure that you won't be too hot, too cold, too wet and that the gear fits correctly so that you can be thinking about the amazing experience of snowmobiling and not thinking about how quickly you can get back to the lodge and out of this soaking wet jacket. Our fabrics have been carefully selected to meet the unique temperature and moisture demands of snowmobiling and painstakingly patterned to ensure that the fit is right for the great majority of riders. Our internal testing has shown that we met our goals and we hope that you agree. With a greatly enhanced line for 2011, like you, we can't wait to get out on the snow! This past year has been an incredible journey and none of it would have been possible without the encouragement and amazing support of customers and friends like you and we thank you for this. ÂťOff Season Antics Short Course Trucks Racing doesn't get much better. Nascar is all right but they only turn left and if it weren't for the wrecks and the fact that it is really easy to follow when your hammered we don't think anyone would ever watch it. Motocross is better but the little single cylinder Japanese engines are a bit small. Imagine taking the big engines, wrecks and close racing from Nascar and mixing it with the dirt, jumps of Motocross. How

cool would that be? Well that is pretty much they have done with short course off road racing. We had our first experience with short course racing this past summer when the Lucas Oil Off Road series came to Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. Cool doesn't even come close to describing this form of racing. The vehicles are purpose built spaceframe trucks housing a 900 hp V8 and long travel suspension all enclosed in a fiberglass body. The bodies however are pretty much a waste of time as they get broken by other trucks and fly off, rarely lasting more than a few laps. The racing takes place on a mile long dirt course with jumps, rhythm sections, tabletops, doubles and berms. The trucks are driven by a bunch of adrenaline junkies with backgrounds ranging from Baja racing to freestyle motocross. The result is arguably the most exciting racing you could ever imagine. Huge air, full throttle sideways turns, big wrecks and fires are all pretty common in the races. With an overabundance of horsepower and carnage it really doesn't get much better. Its like a motorheads wet dream!

»Technically Speaking A Breath of Fresh Air Warm and dry from the the inside out Building clothing is a lot like making a meal, the quality of the end product is only as good as the ingredients. When we started MotorFist we had a choice, we could open the fridge and pick the closest foods and throw together a quick sandwich or we could search out the absolute best ingredients available and put together a quality product that will perform and last for many years. So while not the cheapest and easiest option we decided to seek out the absolute best technology ingredients on the market to put into our clothes. We have used our experience as snowmobilers to design our garments and had them built in the best factories we could find. Our logic is simple, if we have good designs that are well built using the best materials the finished garments will be very high quality and capable of ensuring our customers will stay warm and dry for many seasons to come. Fabric is the main ingredient in any item of clothing and when it comes to clothing that will be worn in the snow the choice of fabrics is absolutely key to ensuring that the wearer will stay warm and dry. We knew that we needed a fabric that would be waterproof enough to keep the rider dry in those wet snow days but also a fabric that breathes enough to allow the rider to not soak in his own sweat. There really aren't many fabrics that are both waterproof and breathable at the same time. There are no shortage of claims about waterproof and breathability and while waterproofness is fairly easy to test, breathability on the other hand requires much more complex testing procedures. We found some test results of waterproof/breathable membrane fabrics that were conducted by the US Army at the Natick Soldier Systems Center. In these tests the Armny tested all the major fabrics and eVent fabric came out on top. Not only was eVent� highly waterproof but was twice as breathable as most of the other fabrics. We figured that eVent was good enough to clothe a bunch of machine gun wielding soldiers and send them to all ends of the earth then it was probably good enough for us to wear snowmobiling. Another reason we were drawn to eVent� is that they are a subsidiary of General Electric. After Thomas Edison invented the lightbulb his companies merged and became GE, today GE is one of the worlds largest companies and a leading innovator of energy efficiency among many other things. You may be asking why we are so concerned about breathability when our gear is typically used in cold conditions, surely warmth and waterproofness is more important than breathability. While waterproof is very important it is not hard to find materials that are waterproof. If that is all we were concerned with then we would make garments out of trash sacks. However if we did that then the wearer would quickly soak themselves in their own sweat. Your body naturally sweats as a way of regulating body temperature and during intensive sports such as snowmobiling your body can produce up to half a gallon of sweat per hour. This sweat needs a way to leave the body as quickly as possible It is pretty amazing how breathable membrane fabrics work. Typically the membrane is made from PTFE which is essentially plumbers tape, the PTFE has lots of microscopic holes all over it. These holes are sized so that the larger water molecules from the outside cannot get through but the smaller sweat gas molecules from the inside can escape. The PTFE membrane itself works very well but unfortunately it is very fragile and can be easily clogged by oils and skin particles. Therefore, the PTFE must be protected and most membrane manufacturers simply laminate a thin layer of polyurethane over the top. While this gives the PTFE the protection it needs to hold up to regular use it takes away a lot of the membranes breathability. What makes eVent� so unique is that they figured out a way to coat the individual fibers of PTFE with polyurethane so that the PTFE is protected but still has open pores so that it can breathe. The result is the most breathable membrane fabric on the market and one that is currently rocking the outdoor industry. Companies such as Nike, Teva and Oakley are using eVent� in their products and MotorFist is very happy to have an exclusive in the snowmobile industry with this amazing fabric allowing us to offer a new level of waterproofness and breathability to snowmobilers with our Rekon line. Our obsessive attention to detail doesn't end with the fabrics. We also wanted to ensure that all the other components in our clothing were the best available. We have had the frustrating experience of dealing with zippers failing on other clothing prior to MotorFist and realized that quality zippers are essential. YKK is the worlds largest producer of zippers and have become number one by producing very high quality zippers. We use YKK exclusively on our outerwear. All zippers on the outside of the garment are waterproof zippers that are sealed with a waterproof membrane. The Velcro on our garments is genuine Velcro brand hook and loop fastening and the specific type of Velcro has been selected to ensure that it will last for many seasons. Some of our garments also feature reflective tape from 3M. We also use Thinsulate insulation from 3M in our Valkyrie and WOT gloves. Thinsulate uses unique microfibers that trap air molecules between materials. These air molecules provide incredibly efficient insulation for a small volume of material. Sourcing all of these different high-end products definitely hasn't been easy. However, we know that our attention to detail is extremely important to guarantee that our gear is of the highest quality available so that you will remain dry and warm for many seasons to come. ÂťTechnically Speaking Noble Gases Flatulence from the King of France. OK, not really. While on scuba diving in Brazil, BYU graduate Nate Alder discovered that divers use noble gases in dry suits to insulate themselves from the cold waters. As an avid snowboarder and outdoor enthusiast this application of noble gases sparked an idea for a business opportunity. A lot of hard work and several years later Nate is now at the helm of a fast growing company called Klymit that is constantly developing new applications for their NobleTek gas adjustable insulation. Klymit offers a range of vests that feature inflatable gas chambers that are filled with NobleTek insulation. This unique form of insulation is three times as efficient per inch of insulation than conventional insulations and the level of insulation can be easily adjusted by adding more gas or letting some out. Recalling some of those unpleasant times that each of the Motor- Fist team has experienced while being stuck on the snow for hours waiting for machines to be repaired, life-flight helicopters to arrive, storms to blow over, or the sun to come up, we came up with the concept of a vest that can be used for extra insulation in any emergency situation. ROCKS, BEER & The Jackson Hole Hillclimbs
Every sport has that one huge annual event, whether it be the Superbowl, Daytona, Baja all these events have one thing in common. If you're an enthusiast you can't miss it. For snowmobilers our big hoorah is the Jackson Hole Hillclimbs. Every spring the small skitown of Jackson hole gets bombarded by thousands of snowmobilers coming from all over to witness the carnage on the hill, party like Rockstars and generally get their last dose of snowmobiling before the snow melts for the summer.
Zollinger is without doubt the most successful surname in hillclimbing and its not just because there is a whole army of them its because they can ride like this.
It doesn't get much better than a seat grab indian air and a backflip over a beautiful Jackson sunset.
Some racers ride with legs flailing as they try to keep the machine going the direction they want. Scott Thompson however keeps his feet planted and moves his upper body, this style is definitely working for him as he is one of the fastest racers currently on the RMSHA circuit.

The double black diamond ski runs of the Snow King resort are closed to skiers as snowmobile racers attempt to ride their machines up and over the top. In mountain snowmobiling Jackson is the ultimate challenge and even these days there is still only a small group of riders who have ever made it over the top. The hill is incredibly long and steep, and on low snow years like 2010 the rocks cause a major problem. Here Carson Ellingford tries to navigate his machine through the vertical rock section near the top known as the Rock Garden.
More often than not the hill wins at Jackson as was the case with Dennis Durmas's run. His poor Polaris bounced of several rocks before flying down the hill and being caught in the safety net.

Snowmocamping Summer doesn't suck when you can still snowmobile. In June we are usually riding motorcycles and hanging out at the lake enjoying the warm summer weather. When we packed our sleds away in March we thought the snowmobile season was over for the year. But thanks to some late spring snow and a lot of elevation we were able to get out on the sleds for one last ride on June 22nd. The Winter of 2009 was a strange one. The snow never came until later in the winter and it seem like every time we went out there was powder with no base and weeds showing through. This December like early season snow was around pretty much all winter. The snow got pretty good for a few weeks in late February before the temperatures started rising in March and the snow quickly turned into slushy spring snow. We had a couple of spring like rides around the time of Jackson Hill Climbs and after that put the sleds away for the year assuming the winter was over. I took a vacation to Texas to get some sun and get some R&R before the motorcycle season started in a few weeks. Pretty much as soon as I left for Texas I started getting calls from buddies talking about epic powder back home. Winter had finally showed up when it should have been spring. Things got busy with motorcycling and I never went back out in the snow again.

Until June. We heard some rumors about guys still riding in Wyoming in June and with a pile of MotorFist prototype clothing needing photographed on the snow we decided to load the sleds and head out again. It was a strange feeling to be going back on the snow again in the same season after a two month break and it was even more weird to be hauling sleds while everyone else on the road was in full summer mode; hauling boats or riding Harley.
of quarters. So who knows how big they were when they first fell a few days previous. We tried to clear a path through the debris by chain sawing through the logs but we just came across more fallen trees further up the trail. There were fallen trees everywhere and it would have taken days to clear a path up to the snow. We were forced to accept that nature had defeated us and head back for home. Epic failure.
Surprisingly there is still quite a bit of snow up high even in June but it's just hard to reach. In Wyoming there is a lot of altitude and at higher elevations the snow stays around sometimes all year round. It is tough to find a location however that has a road that you can drive a truck close to this snow because obviously you cant ride a snowmobile too far on dirt.
While on our first attempt we didn't even get the sleds off the trailer we knew that there was potential for an epic ride. So we decided to try again and make a real trip of it. This time we took a camper trailer and a 4x4 motor home and headed into the mountains for a snowmobile camping trip. Our goal was to get shots of the new product in action and get away from the emails and cell phone for a couple of days and have some fun. We came home with several gigabytes worth of images and some great stories. Mission accomplished.
Our first attempt at summer snowmobiling didn't go so well. We headed into the mountains with the truck and sleds in tow and were getting pretty close to the snow when we came across fallen trees blocking the trail. Apparently a couple of days earlier a massive storm had come through and knocked over huge trees everywhere. We also saw some half melted hail stones that were about the size

Captions 1 As the sun began to set we climbed up to a summit and photographed the setting sun over the mountains. Without doubt it was one of the most incredible views any of us had ever seen. We photographed some of the gear using a strobe to light the subject, photographically it was absolutely amazing and one of those rare times when everything looked perfect and the result was some very dramatic looking shots. 2 While hitting a jump for the camera Foster got a bit off line and to avoid nailing the photographer he pitched his sled into the trees. The sled came to an abrupt stop when it hit a tree and "Chicken" Foster got ejected through the trees and down the hill. The sled amazingly came away with only a few scratches, Foster wasn't hurt badly but he had some bruises and it took all the confidence out of him. Getting the sled out of trees wasn't easy but with the help of Fosters rope and pulley system that he packs it was slightly easier but still took four of us.

3 Foster did some unscheduled durability testing of the new eVent Rekon fabric. The scathing with the tree left a lot of bark on the coat but the fabric didn't rip or tear at all. 4 Skinner loves short track sleds like a fat kid likes cake. He had a blast riding Brads battle scarred Rev MXZ and while its not the prettiest of sleds we figured it was a fitting ride to showcase our value priced Recession Jacket and Pants. 5 Brad got really into the jumping and kept going bigger and bigger over the two days. However the skid on his XP had other ideas, and after a few sideways landings the track slipped off the rails. Game over for the XP. 6 There was a huge pond that Foster and Brad had been eyeing the whole time we had been there. And as we headed back to camp for the last time the inevitable water-skipping began. And skip they did, the boys went further and spun tighter doughnuts until both sleds had been pretty much sunk and they were completely soaked.

Who the heck is
Luke Rainey? by Stephen W. Clark
LUKE
Rainey isn't a factory racer with a pit crew and racing out of a polished factory race semi. He is a hometown Wyoming snowmobiler who works hard in the oil fields and spends his spare time riding and racing snowmobiles. But Luke is making waves in the RMSHA paddock with his recent results and is poised to be the next big name in snowmobile hill climb racing. This little known racer from the small town of Thayne, Wyoming showed up at the Jackson Hillclimb's last year with two well used Ski-Doo's and a lifted Dodge Cummins. The RMSHA tech guys gave him a hard time because his sleds were so well used that they were down on compression. The motors should have been producing about 120 psi of compression but Luke had put so many miles on the sleds practicing that they were down to about 108 psi. All weekend Luke sat at the bottom of the hill with a set of binoculars and watched every single run. "Rick Budge, my mentor, kept telling me just go fast and smooth, fast and smooth. So that's what I did." A lack of horsepower didn't seem to affect Luke, as he went on to dominate the stock classes taking overall wins in the 600, 700 and 800 classes. While new to the podium of the Jackson Hill Climbs Luke has been around snowmobiles his whole life. He grew up in Etna, Wyoming and started riding a Polaris 680 Ultra with his dad Lloyd when he was about eleven. Living in a small mountain town there wasn't a whole lot to do in the winter except for riding snowmobiles so Luke rode Black Mountain behind his house pretty much everyday. After years of backcountry riding Luke had a buddy who got into hill climb racing and convinced Luke to give it a try in 2006. "My first race was at Preston and I covered more terrain going back and forth on that hill than you can imagine. Racing was a lot different than riding in the backcountry." Over the years Luke's racing gradually improved and he began getting some support from Ski-Doo. But in 2010 at the Jackson Hill Climbs Luke really shocked everyone with his results. In an era of facebook, twitter and websites Luke is a rare breed. He sticks to what he does best and that is riding snowmobiles. He works ten days straight on a drilling rig in the Wyoming oil fields and spends his ten days off riding. "No matter what, I always ride for two hours a day but usually more. Sleds in the winter and motocross to stay in shape in the summer". This guy doesn't even have an email address, "I ain't got time for the damn computer all I do is ride." So while you probably won't find Luke on Facebook you can almost guarantee that you will see him on the RMSHA podium this year. In 2011 Luke will be running Ski-Doo's and is excited to ride the new E-Tec 800 Freeride. He will be racing all the RMSHA stock classes along with a mod class. When asked about his competition Luke told us that Polaris racer Keith Curtis is his target, "that kid is way fast and is winning everything just now. I don't like to see Polaris win that much so hopefully I can change that". With these two young racers on brand new machines battling head to head 2011 should be an exciting year for RMSHA racing. We are sure this isn't the last you will hear of Luke Rainey.

We decided to build an emergency product that would help keep you warm in the most frigid conditions. The Surviva Vest has inflatable chambers that can be filled with Argon gas providing an extremely efficient insulator from the cold. The vest can be either worn on the body underneath a jacket or laid out flat on the snow to insulate your body from the cold snow underneath. How to Measure (all measurements in inches) CHEST - Measure around the chest at its fullest part, typically right under the armpits. Tape tension should allow for comfortable breathing but not sag across the back. SLEEVE - With arm extended, measure from the center of the neck base to the wrist. WAIST - Measure around your waist at the level where you would normally wear your pant’s belt. Don't be alarmed if this measurement seems larger than expected; pant sizes are normally labeled as being smaller than what they really are. INSEAM - Without shoes on, measure from the lowest part of the crotch area to the floor. GLOVES - Measure around the palm of the dominant hand at the widest part.

ÂťAperture Aftermath The goal of every sport photographer is to capture the action at the precise moment in time when the action is at its peak and the scene looks perfect. However even though the shutter captures the image at the perfect time it doesn't always end so well. As was the case with Wyatt Young on his M8 turbo in our cover shot. Fourteen year old Wyatt is the son of the "Turbo Godfather" and founder of Boondocker Rocky Young, Wyatt has only been riding for a couple of years but riding with his Dad along with the Boondocker crew of Jared Sessions and Brett Rasmussen he has been forced to learn quickly. We scoped out this shot on a ride at

Sheep Creek and Wyatt wasted no time in being the first one to make a line up through the rock, however he didn't really have much of a plan for a line past the rock, with a big cliff in front of him and his turbo at full boost the sled pretty much rolled over backwards and rolled down the hill over a small cliff. Somehow Wyatt and the sled survived the incident with nothing more than a couple of scratches; Wyatt was quickly back on the sled and away picking out more ridiculous lines. Young and reckless with a big horsepower sled Wyatt is definitely entertaining to watch.
