WELCOME TO MOTORSPORTDAYS LIVE xactly 12 months ago we hosted the first MotorsportDays LIVE show here at Silverstone. That initial event exceeded all of our expectations, with more than 1000 people experiencing time on track over the two days. Drivers, race teams, manufactures and championship organisers came together to deliver a previously unseen opportunity for the entire motorsport community. We have now returned to the home of British motorsport with an enhanced show – ready to offer more of everything that you loved, plus several new features. The first of these new additions is an exciting Engineering & Technology Show. Focused around the Haas F1 team’s Perfect Garage in Hall 3, showcasing the very latest in motorsport engineering and technology by those exhibiting here over the next couple of days. Meanwhile, PMR is creating a technical set up clinic in Garage 39, enabling its skilled suspension team to host six clinics throughout the show. Add in an enhanced Education & Recruitment section in Hall Two – a huge boost for those looking for their first motorsport role and those looking at the next level, dream job. One person at the show who already has his dream job is this year’s British Touring Car champion Colin Turkington. Not only will he be taking his BMW 330i M Sport around the International Circuit on Friday, he will also be in conversation with his team boss at West Surrey Racing, Dick Bennetts and ITV’s Louise Goodman during the afternoon in the Technical Seminar and

Educational Conference area here in Hall Two. With all 40 pit lane garages jammed full with plenty of horsepower – ranging from Caterhams to LMP2 cars; GT racers to Minis; Porsches to MX-5s, there is a car to suit everyone’s taste at Motorsport Days LIVE 2019. Some of these thoroughbreds are not so familiar, such as Radical Sportscar’s Rapture, which is making its first public on-track appearance here in the UK since its Goodwood reveal in July. Equally packed are the exhibition halls, with everything needed for you to prepare for your 2020 race campaign. Add in the opportunity to network at your leisure with track day promoters, manufacturers, sponsors and teams in our Championship Lounge and all that is left to do is to make sure you are first to the chequered flag on race day! I would like to thank all of our returning exhibitors. Your continued support is hugely appreciated and has enabled us to create an improved live event. Thank you too for those who are making their MotorsportDays LIVE debuts with us today. Your support is also invaluable and will inspire us to create an even better show in 2020. s CEO of Motorsport UK I am delighted to support the 2019 MotorsportDays LIVE show. The opportunity to experience motorsport first-hand on track is invaluable. More than 1,000 drivers went out on track last year which is a staggering number and I am sure that even more will take up this opportunity over the next two days. My role at Motorsport UK has to date overseen a lot of change, largely geared towards better-promoting the grassroots of the sport, to inspire the public to participate – ultimately creating a sustainable future for British motorsport. The visibility of grassroots motorsport is arguably diminishing, despite the high-profile success in Formula 1 and other race series, and so we’re working to address that. We potentially have plenty of content to work

with at grassroots level as the Motorsport UK community includes 720 motor clubs and 30,000 competition licence holders, all of whom are united by their shared passion for motorsport. This passion has been shaped by an unrivalled motorsport history, including here in Silverstone of course, home of the British Grand Prix. Equally important to our sport’s heritage and future success is that the UK is home to many world-leading motorsport technology businesses. On-track, and in research and development, the industry is in good health and shows such as MotorsportDays LIVE are the perfect platforms to highlight all the incredible work that is being done in the name of motorsport. opportunity to a vast cross-section of the racing community. There are food & drink options in Hall One and International Street food and refreshments to purchase on-site at the end of Hall Three. The Championship Lounge on the Mezzanine Floor is open for all drivers who have completed their time on the track and wish to discuss their championship prospects further with sponsors, car manufacturers, race teams and track day providers. All exhibitors have unlimited access to the Lounge throughout the show.

All Lost Property will be taken to the Event Reception in Hall One for collection.

Helmets must be worn and arms and legs should be covered. If a driver arrives without a helmet and needs to borrow one, we will have open face helmets for hire from driver signon (Stand H344). A £50 deposit will be required.

FREE WIFI

Free Wi-Fi is available for all visitors to Silverstone’s Wing Conference and Exhibition Centre. There is also excellent 3G signal out on the International Circuit.

COLIN TURKINGTON RETURNS TO SILVERSTONE – AS BTCC CHAMPION he 2019 British Touring Car Champion Colin Turkington will be out on track on the first day of MotorsportDays LIVE. Just five weeks after winning the title for a record-equalling fourth time, Colin and his West Surrey Racing BMW 330iM will be reunited on the Friday at Silverstone.

Incredibly, the BTCC Championship went down to the wire this year, with defending champion Colin only claiming the title in the final race of the season at Brands Hatch. Despite having an eight-point deficit to his chief rival Dan Cammish and starting 25th on the grid following an earlier spin, Colin still had faith. As he wrote on his

Instagram account just hours after winning: “As bleak as my chances appeared after race two we kept believing!” That belief from Colin and his West Surrey Racing team was rewarded with Colin driving into the top 10 at the half-distance. When Dan Cammish crashed out with just 1 ½ laps to go, sixth place was enough to award Colin the Championship by just two points. The one person most shocked about this incredible result was the Champion himself. “I can’t believe it. After what happened in Race Two with being spun to the back and having to start the last race 25th, I knew I had nothing to lose, but when I crossed the line I was just in a state of shock. I’ve

never won a championship in this way. I never would have dreamed that one day I’d equal the record of four championships, but here I am. That was the race of my life and I’m absolutely thrilled with this result.” Colin’s victory came exactly a decade since he won his first BTCC Championship, also in a BMW prepped and managed by West Surrey Racing (WSR). In fact the Sunbury-based outfit has been responsible for all of Colin’s BTCC success, headed up by motorsport impresario Dick Bennetts. Dick is no stranger to motorsport success of course, having overseen the careers of such motorsport legends as Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen, Rubens Barrichello

and Eddie Irvine to name just a few when he ran a WSR team in Formula Three. Despite these years of experience, Dick Bennetts was equally shocked by his driver’s touring car success. “I thought the Championship was gone, but one thing you can always be sure of with Colin is he never gives up. He’s now equalled the all-time record of four championships and he’s won them all in WSR BMWs, so I’m incredibly proud of him and of the job done by the whole team. The new BMW 3 Series first turned a wheel the day before the season launch, and we’ve managed to win 11 races and not retired from a single race due to a technical problem. I think this achievement is going to take a little while to sink in.”

WALERO CREATES AN INDEPENDENT TEST FOR ITS TECHNOLOGY ADVANCED, REGULATING BASE LAYERS AND FIRST RESULTS SHOW THAT THE CAMBRIDGE-BASED COMPANY IS ON THE RIGHT TRACK alero prides itself on creating technology advanced regulating base layers, which, as it says on its website, are “designed by drivers for drivers”. This racewear utilises a NASA-developed technology, Outlast®, which helps to regulate the body’s core temperature and reduces perspiration rates. In addition, Walero claims that its layers can reduce the heart’s beats per minute (bpm). This would minimise the strain put on the body, resulting in lower levels of fatigue and enhanced driver performance.

Smart fabrics are not new but Walero’s claims are impressive – they could make the difference between

winning and losing. So Walero put themselves to the test and commissioned an independent, comparison study to verify these claims. Would wearing Walero base layers makes a physiological difference to the driver in a controlled racing environment when compared to control base layers? Walero approached Dean Fouache ASCC PgD, who has experience working in multiple forms of motorsport including World Endurance Championship (WEC), Blancpain GT, World Intercontinental Challenge Cup and British GT, to create this independent study. The test subject was professional racing driver Jack Mitchell, winner of both the British GT4 and China

GT4 Championships in 2018, who this year finished vice champion in the British GT Silver Cup. THE TEST The test featured two 60-minute stints of Donington Park circuit, performed on the Cranfield Simulation G-Cueing GT Simulator. Jack’s first stint was completed wearing the control base layers and the second stint was completed wearing Walero base layers. The simulator was set at a controlled ambient temperature of 32 degrees Celsius. This temperature was chosen because it represents the upper limit of cockpit temperature which is permitted in the WEC. In addition, the stints were

performed on two separate days in order to discount the possibility of there being any acclimation to the heat. Bodyweight (kg) was measured before and after stints on the simulator and water intake was controlled in order to carry out accurate sweat-testing procedures. Average heart rate and tympanic body temperature were then recorded every five minutes with a ceiling temperature of 40 degrees Celsius being set. THE RESULTS Driver tympanic temperature was measured at 36.9 degrees Celsius at the start of stints 1 and 2. The tympanic temperature elevated to 37.9 degrees Celsius after 20 minutes of stint 1 (control base layers) whilst only increasing to 37.1 degrees Celsius in stint 2 (Walero base layers). The final temperature measured in Stint 1 (the

control group) was 38.4 degrees Celsius, compared to 37.5 degrees Celsius whilst wearing Walero base layers. Therefore, the stint with Jack wearing Walero base layers produced a body mass reduction of 0.37% over the 60 minutes. This equated to 0.3 litres/hour sweat rate. This would typically be considered as a low sweat-rate. The stint wearing the control base layers produced a body mass reduction of 0.62% (0.5kg loss from a start weight of 81.2kg) over the 60-minute period which equated to 0.5 litres/hour sweat rate. This would typically be considered as a normal sweat-rate for the conditions. The driverâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s average heart rate was also 9% lower when wearing the Walero base layers, with the average being 100bpm using Walero,

compared to 108bpm while wearing the control underwear. POST-TEST REVIEW Dean Fouacheâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s tests have provided a set of benchmark data. However, to truly quantify the data a broader sample of drivers needs to be assessed in the controlled simulator environment. Although, the greater level of thermoregulation, lower sweat-rate, minimal body mass reduction and lower average heart rate values all suggest that the Walero base layers were more efficient at maintaining homeostatic balance than the alternative control base layers. He took up this role with the UK’s governing body for motorsport on 1 November 2018 after a career spent in senior commercial and leadership roles across a variety of world-class businesses including BAR Honda, Team Sky, World Sailing and the British Olympic Association. Hugh is responsible for the overall strategy of MSUK, including the leadership and management of the organisation; which represents around 30,000 competitors, 10,000 volunteer marshals, 3200 officials, and 720 clubs.

EVENT DIRECTOR Introducing MotorsportDays LIVE and interviewing Colin Clark about his role within Motorsport UK will be BWR Media’s Ben Whibley. GRAFTON LSR, BLOODHOUND LSR Tony Parraman is a key member of the Grafton LSR team, the company which just last week took the Bloodhound to the Hakskeenpan in the Kalahari Desert, South Africa, to complete some impressive high-speed testing. This comes only months after the Bloodhound was saved by Ian Warhurst from being scrapped and these tests are just the latest chapter in the Bloodhound’s journey to breaking the land speed record. The current world land speed record of 763.035mph (1,227.985kmh) was set more than 20 years ago by a British team including current Bloodhound LSR driver Andy Green.

WSR TEAM MANAGER West Surrey Racing is a UK-based motorsport team run by New Zealander Dick Bennetts. He is responsible for masterminding the careers of such names as Ayrton Senna, Mika Häkkinen, Jonathan Palmer, Rubens Barrichello, Maurício Gugelmin and Eddie Irvine with his involvement in F3 and a racing academy in the 80s and 90s. Founded in 1981, WSR has won more than 70 races in Formula 3 and more than 100 class and outright wins in the BTCC.

2019 BRITISH TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP This record-equalling four-times winner of the BTCC, Northern Ireland’s Colin Turkington is, not surprisingly, regarded as one of the best Touring Car Drivers in the World. His racing career began in Cadet Karting in 1993 and since then has become one of the most prolific visitors to the podium. He came into this year’s British Touring Cars as defending champion but left it until the last race of the season to secure his back-to-back victories, exactly a decade since he won his first BTCC title. He has achieved all of his BTCC victories with Dick Bennetts and his West Surrey Racing outfit. Turkington has established himself as the perfectionist in developing new cars, winning both Championships and the support of fans across the globe.

GT SPORT DRIVER | WILLIAMS ESPORTS Adam Suswillo is a member of the competitive Williams Esports team, a new addition to the MotorsportDays LIVE show format. This 27-year-old is one of Williams Esports stable of GT Sport drivers. When he was younger Adam took part in the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy, an international virtual-to-reality contest that allowed Gran Turismo (GT) gamers the opportunity to become a real-world car racing driver. Today though he is a regular GT gamer for the Williams Esports team, travelling the world to play for this Formula One team’s own esports squad. Adam’s successes so far include runner-up in the FIA GT Sport Nations Cup European Final, which was held in Madrid in 2018 and runner-up in the FIA GT Sport Manufacturers Cup World Tour, which took place in New York recently. Adam was also a finalist in this year’s FIA GT Sport World Championship.

In fact, as is generally recognised nowadays, you are what/who you tell yourself you are.

RACING DRIVER Tony Long broke both ankles while kart racing almost a decade ago. A steering rose joint failure while heading into a fast left resulted in Tony’s kart hitting a concrete wall head on. The second things to hit the wall were Tony’s feet, resulting in two mangled ankles. So when Tony first met with Gavin Gough in January 2010 he was in a wheelchair but also able to walk with crutches. They started to work together later that same year in a bid to get Tony back into the kart and return to speed and racing. 15:30

Each confirmed private garage allows 4 cars on track per its respective sessions - up to 8 cars will be active and on display in each garage over the two days. *LMP, and Single seater/open wheel sessions are strictly Motorsport UK licence holders only with previous experience (or at the discretion of the championship organiser or race team owner). **Downtime will be allocated accordingly throughout the day(s) and will be used if necessary for any delays on track. Due to the nature of a LIVE track this is just a provisional schedule ahead of the event as all sessions and timings are subject to change based on the days on going activities. All sessions will be subject to light and visibility throughout both days. Both days will be run under track day conditions, overtaking will only be with consent, racing each other is strictly forbidden, any such activity will see drivers and teams removed from the event without hesitation.
