Film Junkies Guide to North Carolina Surry County Locations Tucked away in Danbury, a tiny hamlet near Hanging Rock State Park, is the century-old Priddy’s General Store, where scenes were shot for the surprisingly successful horror flick Cabin Fever. First-time director Eli Roth handpicked locations for the film. He found Priddy’s to be the perfect country store, thanks in part to its light yellow exterior and aged pine floors. Film junkies will recognize it in scenes that feature Credits old man Cadwell, the eccentric, Cabin Fever (2003) gray-bearded storekeeper. The Q: What movie, filmed partly in Surry 70-something actor, Robert Harris, County, originally boasted a David Lynch executive producer credit but dropped it does not work at the store but is a before the film was distributed? Triad resident who impressed Roth A: Director Eli Roth’s 2003 horror flick with his first speaking role. Cabin Fever created lots of buzz on the Cabin Fever revolves around five college friends who spend their vacation in a cabin deep in the woods. When one of them contracts a flesh-eating virus, their vacation takes a definite turn for the worse. The film stars James DeBello, Joey Kern, Jordan Ladd (daughter of Cheryl Ladd), and Cerina Vincent, who attended the East Coast premiere in Greensboro’s Carolina Theatre.

film-festival circuit and drew comparisons to cult classics like The Evil Dead. Offbeat director David Lynch of Blue Velvet fame originally put his name on the film as executive producer. However, he later had it removed because his name was drawing attention from up-and-coming protege Roth. When the film was released, it simply recognized Lynch with a special thanks at the end of the credits. Lion’s Gate Films bought the United States distribution rights (with a promise for a sequel) during the 2002 Toronto Film Festival. Cabin Fever filmed primarily in the Triad at locations in Mocksville, Ramseur, Trinity, High Point, Mew’s Creek, Mount Airy, and Danbury. The campsite was at Raven Knob Boy Scout Camp, located at 266 Raven Knob Road, off Ledonia Church Road just west of Mount Airy. The hospital scenes were shot at the Davie County Hospital, located at 223 Hospital Street in Mocksville. The farmhouse, Terrell Farm, is in Trinity on Hoover Hill Road. Several water scenes were filmed at Mew’s Creek.

Historic Downtown Madison Artists On The Sidewalk
“A
rtists On The Sidewalk” originated in the fall of 1996. Starting with only four artists, a little music and an apple cider press, the first “Artists On The Sidewalk” began on a cool, crisp day the end of October. Over the years, this event grew to 35 artists and was held the last Saturday of May and October. Brought back by popular demand, Downtown Madison Merchant’s Association will host this event on Saturday, May 19th from 10:00am til 5:00pm in Historic Downtown Madison. A few of this year’s artists will showcase pottery, water colors, jewelry, woodworking, wind chimes, handmade soaps and fabric art. For the “little artists” a free “Hands On” area will let them show their creative skills. Different music artists will be showcasing their talent throughout the downtown.
