Governor Proclaims April NC Beer Month

I

n recognition of North Carolina’s 100 craft breweries and their positive impact on the state’s economy, Governor Pat McCrory has proclaimed April 2014 as “North Carolina Beer Month.”

NC Beer Month, co-sponsored by the North Carolina Division of Tourism and the North Carolina Craft Brewers Guild, encourages residents and travelers alike to explore a wide range of special events, from beer festivals to creative brewery collaborations that showcase the industry’s top-notch products and hospitality.

Among the highlights:

Blowing Rock Beer Retreat: An overnight stay at Blowing Rock Ale House & Inn with dining at the Ale House Restaurant and a class with the Blowing Rock Ale brewery.

Mountain Getaways: Savings of 25 percent on lodging, food and recreation (mountain biking, zip lining, kayaking and more) from a host of businesses in Brevard. And near Sylva, specials on a stay at Sunset Farm Cabins plus a tour of Heinzelmännchen Brewery, two engraved sports mugs and a copy of “Your Gnometown Cookbook.”

Fonta Flora Is Back On The Map

F

or over a century and a half, the rural hamlet of Fonta Flora (first known as Linville) lay snugly at the mouth of the rugged Linville Gorge in Burke County, North Carolina. After the construction of Lake James in the early twentieth century, the hamlet and the name disappeared from the area. Following renewed local interest in the 1960s, perhaps spurred on by the unusual name, much lore was resurrected concerning its great beauty, fertility, racial harmony and mysterious origins. This lost community is where one of the most unique and quaint water’n holes in Western North Carolina draws its name.

Piping, Drumming, and Dancing

he 21st A n nual Rural Hill Scottish Festival and Loch Norman Highland Games is accepting registrations for its individual piping and dr umming, pipe band, and highland dance competitions to be held April 12 & 13, 2014. Historic Latta Plantation will be transformed to represent the French countr y side as the allied forces moved through the country. WWII reenactments are always an unforgettable experience to be a part of as Historic Latta Plantation annually hosts similar events. With soldiers storming the grounds by military vehicle and by foot, spectators step back in time and experience history in the making right before there very eyes.

The World War II reenactment is set for Historic Latta Plantation on Saturday May 3rd and Sunday May 4th 2014 from 10:00am until 4:00pm.
