Uptown Eden: Coming Alive!
I
n the midst of a global p a n d e m i c, E d e n ’s h i s t o r i c downtown, now called Uptown Eden, has flour ished. Starting in 2019 with entrepreneur s opening new stores and solidified with Carpino Investments purchasing and renovating historic buildings, Uptown Eden is coming alive. Julie Stanton opened Souther n Julep, an apparel, jewelr y accessories and gift boutique that combines brick and mortar retail with on-line sales. She brought new energy to the downtown and a desire to see it thrive. Florida developer Michael Carpino came to Eden and immediately saw the possibilities for downtown living. He transfor med a dilapidated former law office into a popular coffee shop and added four apartments. That was just the beginning. In late 2019, he purchased a building that will house eight apartments and a pizzeria. In 2020,
Carpino purchased the historic Central Hotel, a building dormant for more than fifty year s, and is building twenty three luxury apartments there. Jim and Janice Wade opened Sophisticated Rubbish, a cool shop comprised of antiques, shabby chic, far mhouse, fur niture, glassware and other vintage items. Black Sheep Quilt Boutique, offers beautiful high-end fabric to the many area quilters to help them hone their craft. AK Emporium sells antiques, collectibles, furniture and crafts. The Hive meader y and tapis bar provides a place for evening entertainment. More shops and r e s t a u r a n t s a r e c o m i n g. Th e excitement is contagious as we see the transformation of Eden’s original shopping district. Come join us on Washington Street and visit www.exploreedennc.com for more information.
