Mounds View Public Schools Adult Education offers programs for adults to improve their skills so they can advance in their jobs, prepare for further education or improve their daily lives. Learn English, earn your high school diploma or GED, prepare for college or earn certifications for your next job. Our licensed instructional staff will help you achieve your goals! Courses are free, but registration is required. All courses are offered at Silver View Education Center in Mounds View.

ACADEMIC COURSES ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are for adults seeking to improve their English language communication skills. Classes focus on listening, speaking, reading and writing. Beginning, intermediate and advanced classes are offered September through May, and summer classes are offered in July at Silver View Education Center in Mounds View. Registration required. CITIZENSHIP CLASS Be prepared for the USCIS interview to become a citizen! Study early U.S. history, the Constitution and government in this eight-week course at NO COST to you. NORTH STAR DIGITAL LITERACY ASSESSMENT (ESSENTIAL COMPUTER SKILLS TRAINING)

COMPTIA A+

The North Star Digital Literacy Assessment program will give participants the basic skills needed to use a computer and the internet in daily life, employment and higher education. Our dedicated and licensed staff will work with participants on the North Star modules and assess their ability to perform these tasks. Participants receive digital badges whenever they pass assessments and can additionally receive certificates upon completion of assessments. Location: Silver View Education Center

Make a change in your career! Learn something new, connect with others in the community, stimulate your creativity and get certified with training in a variety of career fields. All classes are FREE. This program will enable you to provide technical support and troubleshooting services to employers who need assistance with their computer hardware or software service desks. This hands-on training course is designed to teach basic cyber security, computer fundamentals and other I.T. industry practices.

CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT (CNA)

Gain the skills and certification to work as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). Classes include 60 hours of mandatory classroom training and 16 hours of mandatory skills training. Upon completion of the class, you may take the test to become certified. Job placement assistance is available for students who successfully complete the program.

COMPTIA NETWORKING PLUS This in-demand certification program will provide and validate the essential knowledge and skills needed to confidently design, configure, manage and troubleshoot any wired and wireless devices. Certified individuals are in-demand worldwide. CompTIA Network+ is also compliant with ISO 17025 US Department of Defense Directive 8570.01-M and US Department of Defense Directive 8140 requirement, which means your resumé will get a needed boost from our program.

Are you interested in paraprofessional employment? This class will prepare you for the ParaPro Praxis Examination. You will take the ParaPro Certification test and receive training on the special education process as well. Paraprofessionals work in a variety of positions within a school district. MICROSOFT OFFICE SPECIALIST (MOS) This Microsoft Office program will provide certification to employers that you have the computer skills to work in office environments. The program focuses on helping you obtain the MOS certificate by passing three Certiport Assessments. Our licensed staff will help you build technical skills and advance your career. INSTANT POT GYROS AND CARNITAS

Ages 16+ | Registration fee: $35 Demystify the electric pressure cooker/multi-cooker called the Instant Pot®during a LIVE, VIRTUAL class! Learn the foundations of cooking, care and how to make satisfying dishes in the Instant Pot. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert menu items will be demonstrated. Participants can choose to join in a COOK-ALONG for the pasta dish! In addition to an Instant Pot®yogurt tutorial, menu items will include creamy steel-cut oatmeal or egg bites, creamycheesy Tuscan chicken with penne and luscious lava cakes or dreamy banana bread. We’ll have giant telescopes aimed at Jupiter, Saturn, star clusters, galaxies and more. Live video telescopes will also be available. Get to know constellations like The Big Bear, Cygnus the Swan, Pegasus the Winged Horse and others. Great constellation mythological stories will also be featured. Mike Lynch is a retired WCCO meteorologist and has been hosting star watch parties and teaching astronomy classes since 1972. He writes a weekly stargazing column for the Pioneer Press and is the author of the book Stars, a Month by Month Tour of the Constellations.

During this 12-week program, student teams will explore a challenge topic, build and program a motorized LEGO model and create a presentation while also learning critical thinking and teamwork skills. Teams are parent/guardian-led, so parents/guardians should expect to help teach at every meeting by following the structured curriculum. Two parents will be designated as “co-coaches,” who will coordinate group emails and help keep the team on track. Teams will have an hour meeting time at their desired school location between 5-8 p.m. LEGO League Explore is a great way to reinforce skills already used in the classroom while also strengthening parent/ guardian-child bonds. The season will culminate in an exhibit for all teams in May! Participants do not need to register at their home school.

JUNIOR STEM CLUB

TEENS, INC. DRIVING SCHOOL This 35-hour program for students 14 years old and above will be conducted by a certified instructor from Teens Driving School, Inc., and will fulfill the state driver’s education requirement. The classroom portion of the course is 30 hours and will consist of lecture and discussion. Students will be taught defensive driving techniques and the “how to” and “whys” of safe driving. Participants will learn the correct technique for serving and will practice basic table tennis strokes including forehand drive, backhand drive, forehand push and backhand push. Quidditch is a coed contact sport with a unique mix of elements from rugby, dodgeball and tag. A quidditch team is made up of seven athletes who play while riding brooms at all times. The game may appear chaotic to the casual observer, but once familiar with the basic rules, quidditch is an exciting sport to watch and even more exciting to play. Open to all genders.

LEARN ABOUT HORSES DAY CAMP

Grades: 2-12 | Registration fee: $95 Join the fast-growing Olympic sport of fencing. Youth Enrichment League (YEL) fencing classes follow four basic components: teach it, practice it, move it and play it! Spend 10-15 minutes of each class fencing with multiple fencers at their skill level. Safety is our first priority. Current families will receive information from their teacher. • New participant registration opens Jan. 11, 2022, at 9 a.m. • Winter/Spring semesters: Jan. 31 - May 20, 2022.

Payments are due in full at the time of registration. We accept Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover or ACH Electronic Transfer for online registrations. To pay with cash, please visit the Pike Lake Early Childhood office.

EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION (ECFE) SLIDING SCALE FEES Participant fees for most classes are based on a sliding fee scale based on income. No Minnesota family is excluded for inability to pay. A discount is available for siblings enrolled in the same one day/week class. The fee for the second child is half the class cost. Call 651-621-7350 to enroll. SIBLING CARE AVAILABLE Sibling care allows parents to attend ECFE classes with one child, and we will watch the other(s), ages three months to five years old during the ECFE class time. A minimum enrollment must be met in order to run for a semester. Sibling care is only available for day time classes and not for evening classes. Fee is based on a sliding scale. Location: Early Childhood Ed. Center Days/Times: Tues., Wed., Fri.

REFUNDS Class or sibling care refunds will be issued 30 days before the class start date at 100%. From 30 days to the start of class, a refund of 75% will be credited. After the first class, 50% will be refunded. No refunds will be given for the semester after the second class. A $10 processing fee will be charged per refund. Canceled classes will not be refunded due to weather or staff professional development days. There are no refunds for family vacations or days missed due to family illness or extended leave of absence.

2022-23 PRESCHOOL & PREKINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION, TUITION AND PAYMENTS MOUNDS VIEW RESIDENT REGISTRATION: FEBRUARY 8, 2022 AT 9 A.M. Preschool classes are available first to Mounds View Public Schools residents. Non-District residents can enroll starting June 15, 2022. Priority registration is given to current 20212022 Preschool 3-year-old students who were enrolled by December 1, 2021. • Preschool schedules, tuition and fees will be available online in mid-January at moundsviewschools.org/ ecpreschool. • Transportation and extended day options will be available online in mid-January at moundsviewschools.org/ ecpreschool. • Tuition assistance will be available through the online registration process. • Refunds: Registration fees for preschool and prekindergarten are non-refundable.

ADULT EDUCATION REGISTRATION Programs on pages 3 - 4 Mounds View Adult Education offers programs for adults to improve their skills so they can move ahead in their jobs, prepare for further education or improve their daily lives. Learn English, earn your High School Diploma or GED and prepare for college or earn certifications for your next job.

REFUNDS, CHANGES, DEADLINES & CANCELLATIONS • Cancellations must be made at least seven days prior to the start of the activity to receive a refund. A $5 processing fee will be assessed to all cancellations. • There will be no cost adjustments for late registration or classes missed by a participant. • Community Education reserves the right to cancel a class. When cancellations occur, participants will be notified and a full refund will be issued. • All Community Education activities are subject to changes and cancellations. • Registration deadlines for most classes and activities are one week prior to the start date. • Classes are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. • Many classes fill quickly and instructors may need to order supplies. • Some classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment. Please register early.

Youth who are residing within Mounds View Public Schools boundaries may be eligible for partial scholarships to qualifying programs. For more information, call 651-621-6020 and select youth programs.

ACCOMMODATION NEEDS Individuals with accommodation needs are welcome in any activity and may bring a PCA or support person at no extra charge. Please indicate needs when registering.
